Cooroy Chamber of Commerce off to a solid start to 2022 THE year is off and running and our local business community are recharged and ready for whatever 2022 may present us with. It certainly has been an interesting and wet start to the year. We're hearing of more and more locals experiencing Covid-19 themselves and many businesses adapting to accommodate this impact on staff numbers. It would seem that this year will be more of the same regarding living with the virus and those businesses that are proactive, think outside the box and adapt the best will be the ones positioned to thrive the most. We can't start the year without reflecting on the magic that was Christmas In Cooroy in December last year, and thanking all who were involved in this free community event. The street party format was adopted for the second year in a row, after positive feedback was received the previous year, when Covid event restrictions required an adjustment to the usual format. Late night trading, closures of Maple and Emerald Street, food stalls and plenty of entertainment drew crowds that were the size we have seen in past years with the original format. The return of the Santa Race was a highlight for many, with crowds lining Maple Street to see all the action. Santa made an appearance himself and took many Christmas wishes while having photos taken. Every family who had their photo taken, received a show bag packed full of goodies from local businesses. Looks of amazement filled faces as they discovered all the treats inside. Along with the animal

farm, stilt walkers and jumping castle, Miss Donna was a favourite with the younger children and had the entire Cooroy Memorial Hall in stitches with her magical balloon show. The Butter Factory judges of the bike decorating competition had their work cut out for them picking winners from so many amazing entries. Wonderfully decorated bikes paraded along Maple Street as carolers filled the air with Christmas cheer. Before long, the time came for beloved local Helen Duncan, of Sconetime fame, to light the tree. And with the flick of a switch, the fabulous town decorations, including brand new street banners, were complete and the magic of Christmas was alive for all to see. Late night trading, entertainment and the ham wheel were popular with the adults, many of whom made a start on their Christmas shopping by supporting local businesses. The Butter Factory Christmas Party was a hive of activity with live music,

food, stalls and the great throwdown. The night was a huge success due to contributions and involvement of individual businesses, stall holders, food stalls, local police, SES volunteers, entertainers, Rotary, the Cooroy Chamber Executive, Noosa Council and the Butter Factory. We can't thank everyone enough for their support of the event. This free community initiative by the Cooroy Chamber of Commerce continues to be a favourite on our community's social calendar. With the positive feedback received from local businesses who took part and all who attended, the event is set to be a bigger, better and an even more magical feature in the festive season for this year.
