Hudson awarded best writer in Year 6 for 2021 A COOROY State School student has been awarded the Laraine Mahoney Writers Award for 2021. Year 6 student, Hudson Barrett, received the “Best Writer” Award, donated by Cooroy-Noosa Genealogical and Historical Research Group in association with the Cooroy Book Club and the Cooroy State School. The award includes $100 in prize money and a trophy. The “Best Writer” Award was introduced in memory of Laraine Mahoney, a teacher at Cooroy School and advocate for literacy, who sadly passed away in 2018. The award is given annually to the “Best Writer in Year 6”. Hudson loves playing cricket, recently making his first 50 runs, and is a keen scholar who has won a number of awards including the Community Spirit Award. He is interested in conservation and has even written a small book about endangered animals.
