Hi Ho, Hi Ho, it’s off to school we go! TUESDAY 27 January marks day one of the school year and it’s not just the littlies who are feeling a sense of nervous excitement. Parents can also feel anxious about sending their littlies off to school for the first time. If your child is just starting kindy or pre-school and isn’t one of the ones who leaves you at the school gates and runs off smiling ready to start their new adventure, here are a few things you can do to help make the transition from home to school a bit easier. • Visit the school with your child in advance of the first day. Teachers and staff are usually at school a few days before the children start. Peek into your child’s classroom, and if possible, meet the teacher and principal. • Try to have your child meet a classmate before the first day so they can get acquainted and play together, and so your child will have a friendly face to look for when school begins. • Talk with your child about their feelings, both their excitement and concerns, about starting school. Do not build up unrealistic expectations about how wonderful the new school will be, but convey a general sense of optimism about how things will go for your child at school. • Buy them something (perhaps a pen or pencil) that will remind them you are thinking of them while they are at school, or put a note in their lunch-box. • If your child sees another student or a group engaged in an activity she is interested in, encourage them to ask if they can participate. • Any anxiety the parent is feeling can rub off onto your child so try and stay calm and positive. Teachers know that students are anxious and will be making an extra effort to make sure everyone feels as comfortable as possible.

For twins, Toby and Jasper Dingle, the excitement is building as they prepare for their first day of Prep at Cooroy State School.

Noosa clears de-amalgamation debt six months before deadline NOOSA Council has cleared $2.27M worth of de-amalgamation costs six months ahead of the deadline. De-amalgamated councils were given until mid2015 to repay Queensland Treasury Corporation line of credit loans which covered de-amalgamation costs approved by the Transfer Committee as part of the de-amalgamation process. The deadline was ex-

tended from December 2014 after two other councils lodged hardship claims. Noosa Council CEO Brett de Chastel said astute financial management meant Noosa had no need for a repayment extension. “Meeting the original end-of-2014 deadline means we can start 2015 with an eye on the future free of lingering de-amalgamation cost debt,” Mr de Chastel said. “Paying

it out this year also means we’ve reduced the amount of ratepayers’ money spent on interest charges.” Mr de Chastel said Noosa Council would begin 2015 in a strong financial position. “We undertook a service review ahead of the 2014/2015 budget to identify cost saving op-

portunities across all areas of Council,” he said. “Departments were challenged to strip their budgets back and re-do them rather than rely on what they had spent in previous years under the larger regional council. “That, coupled with a general focus on minimising waste and making every dollar count has

ensured we’ve met our financial commitments without increasing rates,” Mr de Chastel said. The $2.27M balance of the de-amalgamation costs included the cost of the transfer manager and transfer team plus direct costs incurred by Sunshine Coast Council as approved by the Transfer Committee.

Call for submissions to help inform Noosa’s first Community Jury For all Your Lawn & Garden Needs Free Quotes Call

13 1 546 www.jimsmowing.net

THE new Democracy Foundation is calling for public submissions on the topic “What is the best option for minimising organic waste sent to landfill?” Submissions will help inform Noosa’s new community jury which meets to consider the topic for the first time on February 7. Submissions will form the starting point of information considered by the jury. What should they consider as they weighup their decision? What should an informed resident on the jury take the time to read and understand? Local community groups and residents with a particular interest in the topic are also invited to attend upcoming stakeholder briefings. Noosa’s community jury is made up of a cross section of people from the local com-

munity. Submissions can be in the form of documents or research that Noosa residents think jury members should read; or examples of approaches from other local governments, or even questions that the jury could ask of other experts. The newDemocracy Foundation will not edit or place limits on the information provided to the jury. Submitters can make their case as they see fit. Ideally, submissions should be in by Friday 30 January, 2015 to ensure that documents are available to jurors to read prior to their first meeting. However, submissions will continue to be accepted into late February. Submissions made by individuals will have contact phone numbers and identifying address details obscured. The documents will otherwise be made public in their

entirety, along with Council’s background paper, on Council’s Your Say Noosa website www.yoursay.noosa.qld. gov.au<http://www.yoursay.noosa.qld. gov.au>. Submissions can be lodged via email directly to NoosaCommunityJury@newdemocracy.com. au<mailto:NoosaCommunityJury@newdemocracy. com.au?subject=Community%20Jury%20Submission> The stakeholder briefing sessions will be held on Monday, 2 February at 11am, 4pm and 6pm. Recreation improvements at Lake Macdonald SEQWATER has improved wash down facilities at Lake Macdonald to enable visitors to clean their electric powered boats and paddle craft. A new facility has been installed at Lake Macdonald Park, while the existing wash down facility at Mary River Cod Park has been upgraded. Seqwater Chief Executive Officer Peter Dennis said weed management was crucial to the health of South East Queensland’s waterways. “Weeds are able to reproduce from even the smallest of fragments or seeds,” Mr Dennis said.

“It is vital that visitors remove all visible mud and plants from their boats, trailers and equipment before entering and leaving our lakes. “Our wash down facilities ensure visitors can complete this task with minimal fuss.” Mr Dennis said visitors were also required to eliminate water from all equipment before transporting it anywhere, as the water may contain plant fragments or seeds. “It is also advised to clean and dry anything else which comes into contact with the water,” he said.

“Lake Macdonald is infested with Cabomba weed, so weed management at the lake is essential. “Cabomba weed is a fully submerged aquatic plant which competes with native freshwater plants and can impede aquatic recreational activities.” Mr Dennis said the new and upgraded facilities were a result of Seqwater’s Recreation Review, the most significant review ever undertaken of recreation at and around South East Queensland lakes. THE resilience of Queenslanders in times of adversity is at the heart of Floodlines, a display at Cooroy Library for January to February. Floodlines is a State Library of Queensland travelling display using technology to share memories of the 2010-11 floods and Cyclone Yasi. State Librarian Janette Wright, said Floodlines was a special project that helps make sense of the past and acknowledges the spirit of recovery. “Floods and other disasters are a part of life in this state, and State Library has a responsibility to collect material about these disasters, to create a legacy for future generations. “This is also a chance for communities to collect material, record local memories, create digital stories, and promote those sto-

ries online – helping to add to Queensland’s collective memory,” Ms Wright said. A number of people affected by the natural disasters share their own experiences in 13 personal video stories, which form part of the display. “Augmented reality technology will also allow visitors to use the iPads provided to simulate the effects of the floods and Cyclone Yasi on several Queensland areas,” Noosa Library Service Heritage Librarian Jane Harding said. “Although not impacted directly by cyclone Yasi, Noosa has certainly experienced severe floods in the past. “Through photos in the Flood and Cyclone Mosaic, Queenslanders help tell the rich and complex story of a summer we will never forget. Floodlines is on display from 24 January

until 7 February 2015. The virtual exhibition can be found on SLQ’s website, www.slq.qld.gov.au/whats-on/events/ travel<http://www.slq.qld.gov.au/whatson/events/travel>.

A sailor’s farewell to the old year

BOUQUET to Pomona State School Swimming Pool new Licensee, Carmen Helsrath. There was a delayed season opening of the pool due to no Licensee. The Pool is now open to the community. The School and Noosa Council have been very supportive and actively contributing to the success in getting the pool open for the summer. The facility is looking ready for the community and the water is sparkling! BOUQUET to the gentleman who came to my assistance at the checkout at IGA the week before Christmas. I was getting my green bags out and after pulling the last one out saw a snake coiled up in the outer bag. Both the checkout lady and I were unsure of what to do! I looked around, saw you at the next checkout and asked for your help! Thank you for re-locating what was a brown tree snake (night tiger), 60cm plus in length, in bushland behind IGA. Thankfully the snake was happy to nestle in the bag beside me during a 15 minute car ride to town, a half hour wait in a hot car while I did other shopping, then a 20 to 30 minute shop hanging off the trolley. I hate to think of it escaping at any of these times. Thanks again. BOUQUET: My son from Sydney brought two friends up with him to celebrate New Years Eve in Hastings Street, somehow they got seperated before midnight so the two visitors caught the free bus back hoping to get to Tinbeerwah. The bus terminated at Tewantin with the two unsure how to get home. They walked in to Tewantin RSL asking did they have a courtesy bus, which they replied yes but it’s finished for the night! Unsure of our address in Tinbeerwah they obviously looked concerned so in the goodness of the RSL they got the courtesy bus out and drove them home. We were blown away by their kindness. Thank you Tewantin RSL. BOUQUET to the lass at Kabara Hotel / Aged Care who put together small gifts for the ladies and gents to make their Christmas that little bit more pleasant. They were well appreciated. To think we were being thought of tucked away in this corner of Cooroy. Thank you my dear.

WHAT a year it has been, has anything gone right?? Politics went hysterical, with Parliament the usual bun fight, The Government doesn’t seem to know what it’s doing, With the Treasurer doing endless futile fro-ing and to-ing. The citizens have no idea where the economy is at, We can’t possibly understand the taxes and other things like that. A minister will make what he calls a policy announcement, Then the PM emerges to make a different pronouncement. The media is full of what is considered news today Bombs, murder, scandal, sport, seem to hold sway. Surely something nice must have somewhere taken place, But they seem to begrudge giving that any space. A study of Parliament as usual reveals, That the parties are still plotting political wheels within wheels. Their interest lies in only the one direction, Enjoy the perks, retain their seats, and win the next election. So it looks like the New Year sadly is going to be just the same, With ninety eight per cent of the politicians, giving the rest a bad name.

IT seems many of us have been taking advantage of an Aussie dollar that has been performing well for a few years now. So, whether you are about to fulfil a New Year’s resolution and travel overseas and unsure when to buy your foreign currency, or a small business importing goods that are invoiced in US Dollars, the volatile world of exchange rates is something you can’t avoid. So what drives currency markets, and how can you add some certainty to costs that will be determined by foreign exchange markets? The Aussie Dollar floated on 12 December, 1983 at .9000 (one Aussie dollar was worth 90 US cents), and since then it has been a weird and wonderful ride: • Down to .5720 in 1987 thanks to ‘Banana Republic’ comments

from then Treasurer, Paul Keating • Back up to .8965 in 1989 as commodity prices and domestic interest rates soared • Down again to .6410 in 1993 in the wake of ‘the recession we had to have’ • Up to .8215 in late 1996 prior to the Asia crisis • Collapsing to .4775 in 2001 as the US Dollar surged and gold fell sharply • Back to .8005 in early 2004 as commodity prices and interest rates rose again before falling back to 70 cents. • In recent years we have seen our dollar sitting at parity with the US, and in recent weeks we have seen it fall slightly and then settle into the mid-high .80’s range. So if you think currency markets are predictable, you had better have a pretty reliable crystal ball! In general the factors influencing currencies

are geo-political conditions, interest and inflation rates, commodity and bond markets, and of course the natural flow of funds based on trade and cross boarder investments - in other words factors that can be analysed ‘now’ (why the currency where it is today) but not so easily for the future (where will we be in a month/year/ decade). Assessing the risks It’s due to these uncertainties that in many cases the question for those exposed to currency markets should not be ‘what do I think will happen to exchange rates?’, but rather ‘how will I be affected if the currency rises/ falls?’as almost anything could happen. Whereas a business with an exposure of US $100,000 due to the purchase of some imported goods needs to analyse the impact

(100 times the previous example), and consider • Can I afford not to ‘hedge’? • What will be the impact on my budget if the currency falls 10%? • Can I pass on any For Ex costs/ gains via my product price and still be competitive? • Do I have any foreign currency receivables that could offset this exposure? Whatever you decide to do, actually quantifying your risk and doing some what/if analysis is a good

starting point - and might offer more reliability than gazing into the crystal ball. To talk more about this or any other banking matter, please call into the branch or call me on 5447 7131. news Design manual rewrite to preserve ‘look and feel’

COOROY RAG

Joanna Ferris and Ross Sanderson from Noosa Council’s design team with the current Design Manual, complete with original artwork, which has been in use since 1986. The Design Manual has guided developers, architects and Council staff in all types of developments, such as the Tewantin streetscape pictured in the background. NOOSA Council is rewriting the guidebook that has shaped the look and feel of the

shire over the past 30 years. And residents are invited to help draft it. “While our town plan

determines the sorts of developments that can be built in particular locations, the Noosa

Council Design Manual plays an important role in shaping the overall look and feel of our region, including our streets and open spaces,” said Noosa Council design manager Ross Sanderson. “Since 1986 its contents have guided developers and Council planners on landscaping, carparks, signage design and a host of other visual elements to achieve the leafy, lowimpact environment Noosa residents cherish and visitors envy.” Council has launched an online survey and discussion forum at http://yoursay. noosa.qld.gov.au for residents to offer feedback on the sorts of things they’d like to see included or removed from the manual. Mr Sanderson said that with changes to design standards and legislation the time had come to update the design manual to take the shire into the future.

“The design manual aims to articulate all the little things that contribute to our unique environment. The end result will be a useful and vibrant document to guide the look and feel of our shire for years to come,” Mr Sanderson said. “We’re inviting residents to upload photographs of design elements that they feel are examples of either good or bad design. “This might include feedback on the types and amount of landscaping, materials used in street beautification, anything that influences the appearance of our local area.” Residents can also download a copy of the 1986 Noosa Shire Council Design Manual, complete with hand drawn illustrations, from Council’s YourSay Noosa site at: http:// yoursay.noosa.qld.gov.au Residents can access the online discussion forum and survey for the next four weeks.

AFTER 16 years the people of Nicklin deserve a voice in government, and I intend to be that voice. With a strong voice at the table I can ensure that we get our fair share. My name is Matt Trace and I am the LNP candidate for the seat of Nicklin. Married to Michelle and with a brood of five boys we have run our dairy farm at Moy Pocket (Kenilworth) for over ten years. I have spent my whole life in and around this community through schooling, sport, farming and now raising a family with Michelle, I am a life long local. While our community is one of the greatest places to live in QLD with the beautiful natural scenery, quiet lifestyle and good proximity to the coast we lack economic opportunities. Many are compelled to move away for decent jobs or have to fly in fly out to mining communities. While I applaud these families for their effort to succeed, I believe we should be aiming for the same opportunities in our local community. Stagnation of our local economy is unacceptable to me. WE all want a comfortable retirement and here we look at how the equity in your home may be able to help improve your retirement lifestyle. For many Australians the investment in the family home is the biggest asset, even bigger than super. You may have worked hard and built-up significant equity or value in your home throughout your working life. If this sounds like you, it may be worthwhile setting up a financial plan that lets you use the equity in your home to improve your retirement lifestyle. Of course you’ll need to consider the risks involved and a financial adviser can help you do that. “Right sizing” your home The most obvious way to use the equity or value in your home is to sell your home. Downsizing—you could even call it rightsizing—to a less expensive property may provide you with a place that suits you better and leave extra money for you to invest for income. Any extra money may impact your Centrelink benefits so make sure you explore all of the implications first. You also need to be aware that when considering downsizing, a different house may not actually cost less. A smaller house closer to transport or amenities may cost as much as a larger home further away so you’ll need to do some research before selling. You may not want to leave your family home. But depending on what you want to do, keeping your home and changing the way you use it can work too. Renting out part of your home

Renting out part of your home can allow you to stay at home, provide extra income and you might even enjoy the company of a tenant. This could work well if your tenant is a friend or family member. If you’d like more privacy you might consider investing in your property and converting it to a dual occupancy dwelling. This may increase the value and equity in your property as well as providing you with extra income. You’ll need to do your sums to make sure you can get a return on any money you invest. And be aware that any extra income from renting out your property can impact your Centrelink benefits so look into that first. Reverse mortgage You may want to continue living in the family home and don’t want a tenant. You can still access the equity in your home using a reverse mortgage. It’s generally a last resort option due to the costs involved but it can allow you to access money from your home and continuing living in it. A reverse mortgage provides a way for you to borrow against the value of your home and then use the money to supplement your retirement. You can choose a lump sum, regular income stream, line of credit or combination of options. Unlike a normal loan you don’t have to repay a reverse mortgage with regular repayments. The interest on the loan compounds over time and typically—once you sell your home or die—the loan must be repaid in full, including interest and fees. But a reverse mortgage does have risks— it can impact not only your financial plans but your relationships too so it’s impor-

tant to do your homework. Let’s look at some of the risks in a little more detail: · the interest rates are high; generally higher than average home loans · the pace the debt rises can be surprisingly fast—possibly leaving you with less for future needs such as aged care · the payments you receive may impact your Centrelink benefits and at the end of the day you may not have many assets remaining to leave those you love. Of course a reverse mortgage may be the right option for you but it’s important you know all the risks before considering it. When it comes to planning for the years ahead it’s essential to have a plan that’s designed around your goals and your circumstances. Get to know your new puppy DID you get a puppy for Christmas or give a dog a second chance from the RSPCA or animal shelter? Do you need some help in getting to know your pup / dog and want to come to training? Well, I can help! Dog training is a lot of fun and will teach you how to understand and communicate with you furry friend. I keep my classes small to ensure everyone gets the assistance they need. I also offer private in home lessons for those that prefer not to come to group class or may have an unsocialised or complex dog they need help with. I have classes and lessons to suit all dogs, have a look at the class descriptions and contact Belinda to book into

a class or private lesson! Puppy Socialisation: for puppies between the ages of 8 – 16 weeks of age that have had their first 2 vaccinations. The puppies get to socialise off lead in a puppy pen and learn how to be a nice social dog. Basic behaviours and nice doggy manners will be discussed. ** Duration of course depends on number of pups and their ages. Juvenile Class: for pups 16weeks – 22 weeks of age. This is where training begins! Stationing (mat training), Sit, Drop/ Down and Come are taught along with a few tricks and fun games to play with your dog. Interactive class that is lots of fun! Basic Class: This class is suitable for dogs 22 weeks and older – It is never too late to start training! It is NOT a suitable class for dogs that are people or dog aggressive (contact Belinda for a private lesson if this is the case). In Basic Class we learn walking your dog nicely on a lead (Heel), Sit, Stand, Stay, Down / Drop, Come (recall) and Stationing (mat training). This is a great course to teach you the Basic Skills and to build communication and understanding with your dog. You and your dog will see results in no time! Intermediate Class: Prerequisite is the Basic Class – Building on what you and your

dog have learnt in the Basic Class, in this class we start using long leads and building distance and confidence in each command. This 4 week class is a prerequisite to move into the Agility and Ongoing Intermediate Class. Intermediate Ongoing + Agility: Prerequisite is Intermediate Class – this is so much fun! We continue to work on lessons from Intermediate class and start having fun with the Agility course! The dogs learn the weave poles, under and over the Agility jump, through the tunnel, crawl and up and over the walkway. This is a great way to challenge your dog and keep them thinking! It can also be a workout for anyone that wants to run the course with their dogs and I am happy to set up a squat and sit up station if that’s what you would like – gives a chance for the dogs to rest and watch you work!! To book into a class or for more information you can call Belinda on 0429 461 606, send email to woof@heelsitandstay.com.au, contact me through my webpage www.heelsitandstay.com.au or find me on Facebook at Heel Sit and Stay – Dog Obedience. I look forward to helping you train you and your puppy / dog.

news CASD musical theatre classes’ coming to Cooroy!

COOROY RAG

THE Coast’s newest Performing Arts School, ‘Coast Academy of Song & Dance’ will begin classes in Cooroy next week. The Principal Anna Quayle has been busy since the launch of her new school in December, running Musical Theatre Holiday Workshops all of which were a huge hit with both students and parents. In the first workshop students performed a mini version of the musical ‘Annie’ to a capacity crowd at Good Shepherd College; audience members were amazed at the high standard of the performance after only 4 days of preparation. The second workshop was a shortened version of the popular hit musical ‘Hairspray’ performed to huge applause. “All the kids did a great job learning all the songs and the dance steps and some of the choreography was quite involved, eve-

ryone clearly had a fantastic time and the audience loved it” Another parent commented “ my daughter flourished in confidence on stage during the week at the workshop and had so much fun!” The final workshop for the summer holidays was ‘Oliver’ and again the response was enthusiastic “a wonderful experience, totally recommend it, the kids all had a blast” Regular Musical Theatre classes will begin in Cooroy Memorial Hall on Tuesdays beginning 27th January for ages 4-17; Anna is also hoping to have enough interest from the Cooroy community to begin a fun Adult Class also on Tuesdays from 7-8pm, so go on Cooroy give ‘Coast Academy of Song & Dance’ a call to find out more. Let Lakeridge look after your skin

Balance & Strength classes

While more than 7 calming botanicals work together to comfort and care for the skin. No matter what your skin type we at Lakeridge Health and Beauty know you will absolutely love Purastat 5. We love using Purastat 5 on our clients and our own skin! Review of Purastat 5 from The Science of Beauty blog. The Aspect Purastat 5 Cleanser (240ml) slotted easily and simply into my ‘beauty’ routine by quite honestly being the most incredibly gentle yet anti-acne cleanser I have EVER used and I’ve used a couple of very good ones. This lime-scented and lime-coloured cleanser is so beautifully gentle that I can use it all over my face and there is not the least hint of dryness. It doesn’t strip my skin whatsoever. The pump top quality bottle is shaped like an upside-down cone. I’ve been using it for just over a month now and I estimate I’ve used only 40mls of this precious potion which makes it very very economical because it looks like it’s going to last me around 6 months! That works out around $10 a month or around $2.50 a week for the BEST cleanser I’ve ever used for my crazy skin type. It’s effect on my skin is highly cleansing and refreshing as well as calming – somehow it makes my skin feel more resilient against pimples and much, much less pimple prone. I’m honestly completely amazed something like this exists! Call into Lakeridge at 3 Ruby Street - or phone 5442 6239.

“Because precious skin and dirty dishes have nothing in common!”

Average face cleansers contain ingredients which are also the ingredients in dishwashing liquid. Purastat 5 contains natural ingrediants which cleanse and detoxify while maintaining the skins natural bio-lipidic barrier.

BALANCE and Strength class is an exciting new class being lead by physiotherapist Courtney Vella at Hinteractive Physio. The 45 minute class is set out in a circuit with nine different stations designed to improve strength, balance, coordination and fitness. Balance and Strength classes are aimed towards those that have noticed a decline in their balance and people who have had a fall, or are at risk of falling. Call Hinteractive Physio on 5442 5556 to book into classes held at 10am on Mondays and Fridays.

Noosa District Orchid & Foliage Society I OFTEN hear the comment I love orchids but they are too hard to grow. This comment could not be further from the truth as Orchids are probably one of the easiest flowering plants to grow. There are over 30,000 species of orchids growing in the world. There are plenty of orchids that grow with ease in the Sunshine Coast area. One of these varieties is Vandas, which are indigenous to south East Asia. Vandas grow very well in our area. With the right varieties they can be grown outdoors or under shade house conditions. I have certain ones growing in full sun. The thing to remember is their natural habitat is warm and has high humidity so when it is dry I keep the water up to them. To learn more about Vandas and other types of orchids you can visit the club meetings, which are held the first Saturday of each month at the Tinbeerwah Hall. The meetings start at 1.30pm. For more information contact John Green Ph. 54832764 or visit the club website.

THE first and most crucial step in any effective skin care routine is the cleansing. It is also often the most neglected. Neglected via the products used rather than the process used. Take a quick glance at the ingredients listed in your average cleanser and compare the list to those which appear on a bottle of dishwashing liquid. You may be shocked to see chemicals such as sodium lauryl sulphate, propyl paraben, formaldehyde and synthetic perfumes. All of which are documented skin irritants. The Purastat 5 Difference - Free of harsh damaging surfactants that strip, damage and devitalise your skin. By way of an exceedingly gentle blend of sugar and coconut extracts which cleanse and detoxify with the utmost efficiency whilst remaining totally respectful of the skins natural bio-lipidic barrier. In addition to sugar and coconut extracts, other ingredients such as bilberry, sugar maple, orange and lemon effectively renew the skin. Botanicals of Wasabi root ferment and Canadian Willowherb protect and strengthen the skins natural defences.

Wellington’s Way by MP Peter Wellington

ELECTION bribery a feature of Newman’s campaign. I believe this Newman LNP Government will be remembered as the most vindictive arrogant and extreme in Queensland’s history. They have eroded everything we value most and abused the powers we gifted them. The Premier’s recent announcement of a $500,000,000 railway line upgrade is nothing more than an election bribe because, it depends on the LNP’s re-election and on the sale/lease of our income earning assets. In other words, “Vote for me and I will give you this.” If the Premier was

genuine, he would have entered into a joint-funding agreement with the Federal Government as it is a national building project instead of making promises during an election. As for his promises, look at his track record. Thousands of Queenslanders sacked, community services axed, essential services skyrocketing, and the unemployment rate the highest in mainland Australia and confidence down. The Newman LNP’s pure vindictiveness was evident in the first few weeks of office when they axed a muchneeded disabled and already approved access

Page 16 - Cooroy Rag, January 21, 2015

at Nambour Railway Station citing “budget restraints”. Instead they went ahead with one in the Premier’s electorate of Ashgrove. Treasurer Nicholls even targeted our pensioners and retirees in his slash and burn Budget an axed their concessions. He quickly backed down when threatened with a Grey Army marching on Parliament House. The antagonistic Newman LNP government picked fights with and abused everyone who didn’t agree with them including thousands of public hospital doctors. They threatened to replace them overseas doctors. Assistant Health Minister Chris Davis a decent and honourable man resigned in disgust triggering the Stafford byelection which saw a massive 20 swing against the LNP. Privatisation by stealth is the norm with this government with prisons, hospitals, schools and even the Police in the firing line should they be elected. .

COOROY RAG police beat with Sergeant Mal Scott

ANOTHER quick arrest has been made by police with the apprehension of a 16 year old youth for a break and enter offence on a dwelling in Cooroy and several further offences in Pomona. The early arrest was made possible by the fact that the owner of the stolen property had taken the time to accurately record Serial and Model numbers of the stolen computer and other electronic equipment so the task of tracing the victim’s property was made all the more easier when the offender was located in possession of the stolen property. With the development of highly sophisticated computer property tracing software police are able to match stolen property in an instant however these capabilities are only as good as the property owners ability to accurately record proper property descriptions to give to police so as the property tracing process can be commenced. By far the most valuable piece of evidence needed to

identify stolen property is a Model and Serial number. If you look at it this way and imagine that there are probably 2000 Nokia Mobile Phones stolen each year in Queensland. When police locate a Nokia phone (for example) that they suspect may be stolen we will commence a computer based search which will bring back 2000 possible matches. Of course it is a near impossible task to try and match a common piece of property such as a mobile phone to a particular offence without a serial number so that particular suspected stolen property would more than likely go undetected. If on the other hand the person who owns the mobile phone took the time to record the serial number or Imie number the phone would immediately come up on our property tracing system and be directly linked to the full details of the offence and property owners details. I would very much encourage all owners of property to

take the time to properly and accurately record all brand names including serial and model numbers of all electronic equipment and other more valuable items. A good way to record other property items such as jewellery is to take digital photographs and store those images in case the item is stolen. Please also take the time to use the full security measures of the device by using password protections to limit the devices use to the offender. Smart phones are increasingly being stolen so once again use a locator App that most phones are now capable of supporting so in the event of the phone being lost or stolen the locator App can be used to track the phone down to the offender and the property recovered. Police are also solving more and more crimes around town when businesses and private residences take the time to install CCTV cameras to monitor customer movements in the event of unlaw-

ful activity both during and after business hours. In another quick clear up which has been solved by Cooroy Police by using CCTV footage a wallet was lost in town recently and by the time the owner of the wallet realised that it was lost a less than honest person had found the wallet and used the various cards to fraudulently obtain numerous items from various shops around Cooroy. By using CCTV and other means police were quickly able to identify the offender and make an early arrest and stop similar offences from occurring. Remember with the introduction of the pay wave system which does not require a PIN or signature people need to be very aware of where their credit and debit cards are and cancel them immediately when they go missing. Several High range drink drivers have been detected around town and on the highway lately which is of huge concern to police as

high range drink drivers represent a huge danger to all of us on the road. Several of the drink driver have been detected by police when concerned members of the public have phones through erratic driving behaviour which has literally saved lives by police attending and taking the drunk driver off the road. To drive drunk on the road is the equivalent of holding a loaded gun to the head of each and every road user so it is pleasing to know that the general public are taking an active role in keeping our roads safe. To highlight the problems that police face when dealing with some traffic offenders and ridiculous attitudes to driving I recently attended a traffic incident where an 18 year old had run off the road and down an embankment whilst driving too fast around a bend in the road. Subsequent investigations into the incident led to the driver being charged with a drink driving offence less

than 7 hours after being charged with a high range drink driving offence and driving whilst suspended. When questioned in regards to his stupidly and the fact that he was endangering people’s lives by driving drunk and going too fast he answered that he was an extremely good driver and that he had had numerous traffic accidents and never

injured anyone. Of course the contradictions there are obvious so when I pointed them out he again stated, “When I have an accident, I know where to put the car so no one gets injured.” Needless to say with that logic I simply turned around and walked away. He is now facing a lengthy driver’s license disqualification and large fine. Stay safe.

Only Greek inspired open air amphitheatre in Australia RESIDENTS and Families of the Sunshine Coast have enjoyed great entertainment, concerts, musicals and plays over the last 17 years in the Amphitheatre of the Noosa Botanic Gardens. Few people would have the audacity to envision a classic Greek open air amphitheatre probably the only one in Australia - and at Cooroy of all places. When Ida Duncan started developing the idea, she won support for it because a lot of people approved of what she was doing for the local charities, and they could understand how ‘Ida’s Dream’ might become a unique community asset. Construction material was donated by PGH brick works and the design by Bill McKay. Construction work on the Amphitheatre was finally finished in 1997. Today the Amphitheatre is a tourist attraction where visitors can rest in it’s tranquillity and embrace the natural beauty of Lake Macdonald and surrounding Gardens. This year the Noosa Botanic Gardens will commemorate its 25th Anniversary. Friends of Noosa Botanic Gardens will be planning several events to celebrate the occasion. Please consider supporting the FRIENDS through participating and help shape the future directions of FRIENDS of Noosa Botanic Gardens.

Big plans for Noosa Museum

THE Noosa Museum has much to offer our community and for this reason I feel proud to have joined the Committee. Museums. Interesting? Yes, yes, yes. I still recall the sights, sounds, smells and sense of history and culture on my first visit as a very young person to the Auckland Museum in NZ. On a recent visit to Chicago I managed to visit Museums of Science, History, Modern Arts, Planetarium, Hull House and others. Now it is true that these are all much bigger than our Noosa Museum but their big ideas suit us just as well. Recently, at the Butter Factory, people were invited to interpret the Eliza Fraser paintings and to read their stories. A fascinating idea. But the stories all trended to Eliza as a captured person, mistreated by the Indigenous people. This led me to think, not necessarily a strange experience, of how the Gubbi Gubbi people might have seen this story. After all the shipwreck was on Fraser Island where the Batjala people discovered them. This party moved south, crossed off the island to the mainland and then the Gubbi Gubbi people took them further south. It seems to me this journey and transfer might well reflect a purpose of taking Eliza to the European settlement further south. As you may be aware we are seeking a Queensland Heritage Grant to do a sub-surface survey of the Mill Point Cemetery to map out the graves. We have already completed a test run, with the help of QPWS, and identified 4 graves. Publicity has given us new contacts such as Keith Allison who recall walking the land and discovering the cemetery there and securing the laying of the stone. In the New Year he will join with myself and Dr Steve Nichols (who conducted an archaeological survey of the site in the early 2000’s) for a walk of discovery. As you may be also aware Jeanette and I have developed a proposal to use the Butter Factory as an Interpretation Centre. In Noosa we were recognised as a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO. Our new Noosa Council is looking for “ground up” initiatives to underscore our Noosa Biosphere Reserve.

The concept of an Interpretation Centre to focus on the Noosa Biosphere is one such initiative. It is planned to encourage visitors to the Butter Factory and to provide families with a hi-tech, hands on involvement both educational and entertaining to build our knowledge. But this is not just about the building, our Interpretation Centre will include technology support for visiting our land experiences - the Great Walking Trail, Mill Point, Pomona and Cooroy Historic walks, vertical and horizontal mountains and so much more. But we are not planning just a larger Museum, although Noosa Museum will be an important partner, we want to retain the past usage and expand its community usage. So we will be keeping the Butter Box for community visual and verbal arts usage - exhibitions, recitals, workshops, drama are all on our agenda. And we intend when we reach profitability within 3 years that we will be able to subsidise some events across the arts spectrum. With the support of Queensland Museums we can target school children for syllabus related education on our Noosa Biosphere. The concept and the planned results are very exciting. I encourage you to go to the Noosa Council website and have a look at what has been proposed. There is nothing that offers a four point sustainability solution - financial, social, heritage and environment. So I am looking forward to new opportunities for the Noosa Museum, to working on encouraging visitors to visit using all the technology means at our disposal, to reviewing operations and seeing how we can leverage the stored knowledge to Noosa Community interest. After all we are the Keeping Place for the Gubbi Gubbi people Traditional Owners of the land on which we walk and we owe it to them to to apply care through knowledge. How exciting is that? Should you have any queries, observations, advice on the Interpretation Centre please do not hesitate to ask. We have already included many community. If you are a Noosa Museum member please support our proposal, it is a once in a lifetime opportunity and we need to grasp it and go forward. Bruce Creswell

AUSTRALIA and Abroad will be at the Pomona Railway Station Gallery until 10 February 2015. Natalie Barlow will be exhibiting paintings in oil and watercolour of the Australia landscape, wildlife, as well as inspirations from her travels in Africa and India. Her interest in art started while studying graphic design. She commenced art classes in 1986 at the local community centre and soon developed an interest in painting wildlife, particularly birds and landscapes. Over the years Natalie has gained inspiration for her artwork by visiting wetland areas, around Australia including Kakadu and overseas trips to India and Africa. Natalie moved to the Sunshine Coast four years ago from the hectic life of as a graphic designer in Sydney. While the paintings she is exhibiting are from other parts of Australia, Natalie finds living here inspiring and peaceful which motivates her to continue to paint the bush and birds which surround her. Natalie has exhibited in group exhibitions and at Pomona Railway Station Gallery.

After retiring from a 30 year career in Human Resources in Darwin, Jeff Fraser moved to the Sunshine Coast in 2008, settling with his wife Lorraine in Cooran. Jeff was inspired to first turn wood by his friend Peter Farkas, a master wood turner. Since that first experience Jeff has not stopped... My interest is in the wood . . . . it is the wood that has the fascination, the character, the myriad of endless possibilities in terms of grain, colour, colour combination, tone and texture, smell. Infinite variations, all of it unique . . . and much of it hidden beneath an often crusty exterior of bark or weathered wood; just waiting to reveal it’s beauty, its individualism, to the world. While it is about the wood, it is also about the lines and form that enable the wood to ‘shine’. Sometimes it is grace, sometimes elegance, or drama; the intangible is finding the combination that brings out the qualities inherent in each piece. Jeff has shown his work at several galleries of the Sunshine Coast, including the Caloundra Regional Gallery.

CKNU SADLY the last Cooroy Originals for 2014 was rained out but the line-up for the first one in 2015 is nothing short of impressive! David Flower, Benjamin James Caldwell, Brothers and CKNU are all set to hit the stage in Apex Park on Sunday 25 January from 1pm! David Flower is a singer songwriter with progressive roots, blues and reggae influences. He is known for his high-energy, spontaneous and entertaining performances. David plays acoustic guitar, harmonica, and sitar and has a stirring dynamic voice. His songs highlight the delicate fabric & dynamic dance of human relationships and spends special time writing on current environmental social conscious issues facing us all. David delivers his lyrics with enlightened energy and a cheeky charm, remaining unapologetically feisty; this along with his self-teach attitude on his instruments and techniques make for music that grabs the attention. Benjamin James Caldwell blends Americana, delta blues, outlaw country and the psychedelic folk revival of the seventies, culminating in heart-breaking vocals, stomping

rhythms and a poetry of song writing to match the best. CKNU take on ‘fusion’ music which can be a tricky beast. Bands will often try to smash together a host of influences but it takes a special combination of talent and sheer fearlessness to actually pull it off. And thankfully they are two things CKNU have in abundance. This Brisbane five piece have become nothing short of thrilling to watch. Their music straddles everything from hip-hop to funk, soul, jazz and reggae…sometimes in just one song. But at the heart of this music is a sense of freedom and authenticity that comes from a band simply having a good time and doing what they love. Make no mistake, CKNU are a band doing something very special. Cooroy Originals is a fantastic family friendly original music event powered by donations and proudly supported by Cooroy Community Bank Branch of Bendigo Bank, Cooroy Hotel, Wimmers Softdrinks, East Coast Originals and Cooroy Chamber of Commerce Inc.

dining & entertainment Make sure Deb Webber is in your future BOOK your tickets! Psychic, Deb Webber is on tour and will be at the Cooroy RSL Club for one night only on March 1. Originally from Melbourne, single mother of two, Deb Webber has been communicating with spirits from a very young age. In childhood, Deb grew up on the grounds of a nursing home and subsequently went on to carve a career in geriatric nursing in over 25 hospitals. Working through agencies to gather experiences. This seemingly ‘normal’ life choice eventually proved too overwhelming for all concerned, as Deb shocked and frightened people by her communication with passing residents. Now as a high profile medium/psychic/ metaphysical researcher, Deb receives accolades for the very thing that once sent people running in the opposite direction! Deb sees, feels and hears messages from other energy sources, and provides stunning accurate insights into people’s personalities, families, relationships and careers. In 2003, Deb was approached by the producers of the Australian Network Ten Series, “Sensing Murder”. Deb’s success on the first episode led to her being invited back to feature in another four of the hour long shows. Also in 2003, Deb appeared on A Current Affair with a story that saw the Nine MSN website receive an unprecedented 75,000

hits. This appearance lead to a Melbourne Television Production company filming highlights of Deb on tour in her live shows. Also documented was a fascinating reading with Rhett Hutchence the brother of the late INXS rock star Michael Hutchence. After “Sensing Murder” finished in Australia, in 2005 Deb was then approached to follow on with the series in New Zealand. By 2008 Deb has appeared in 16 shows out of 21 and about to begin filming series 4. In 2006, “Sensing Murder” won Best Director and two times Best Reality Format at the New Zealand Qantas Awards, and again in 2008 they won “Best Reality Format”. Deb was offered a weekly column in the Woman’s Day magazine in Australia and New Zealand. The column is titled “Life After Deb” and she has produced very strong evidence and in sight of life after death. The column includes her research using her psychic ability on cold cases, and features personal insights into the people’s lives. Deb has helped the police with many case’s and has in fact helped find missing people. But, due to the respect of families she will not disclose the information and is by law unable to prove this. Deb currently lives in Queensland and tours regularly around Australia, New Zealand and Bali. Deb will also tour throughout the UK and Europe in the near future.

The Kindness Project - new campaign launch announcement AS the Kindness Project’s Director, I am happy to announce that my grassroots charity is once again campaigning for donations of items to aid women and children living in domestic violence refuges. The new campaign is called ‘Reach Out’, and will commence on February 1st 2015 and run until May 1st, with items being distributed in time for Mother’s Day in May 2015. The fourth campaign by The Kindness Project, I am aiming to make this one the biggest yet - shining the light on the plight of women and children living in refuge. I started The Kindness Project approx 16 months ago and in that time have helped over 1000 people in the local community. This is something I do in my spare time, when I’m not at my fulltime job as a project manager. The ‘Reach Out’ campaign will collect toiletry items, and back to school items. The packs are usually in Woolworths, recyclable type bags, and are filled with all the usual toiletries, and feminine products which the women may not have time to grab when they are leaving their situation. The back to school packs will be for the children who have had to move and re-start school (sometimes multiple

times), and weren’t able to grab all the usual school type items they need day to day. I have approx 6 refuges across Brisbane, Sunshine Coast, and Ipswich who are on board to receive the donated item packs. This equates to helping approx 300 or more women and children. I am hoping to garner some media attention towards this upcoming project, and shine a light on the importance of not only helping those in need, but to say no to violence against women. An article, a share on social media; anything that helps to promote the upcoming campaign. It will also aid these women and children in breaking the cycle, starting again, and in finding peace after such traumatic experiences. I am slowly working towards a goal of becoming a registered charity, but as it’s just me financing these projects it’s a slow road. It is my intention to be a registered charity by the end of 2015 (then the magic can really happen, and I hope to open my own refuge)! I have a Facebook page if you wish to see what we have been up to recently at The Kindness Project: facebook.com/ thekindnessprojectbychrismichel Chris Michel

Are you getting a complete health & fitness service? ARE you one of the many Australian’s who are trying to lose a few kilos or even just trying to get fit and tone up? Have you been slogging away but not really seeing results? There are many reasons why this might be the case. Good nutrition and exercise are incredibly important to a healthy life. For many, however, nutrition and exercise don’t work for creating successful, long-term weight loss. Many imbalances within your body can cause weight gain and retention and exercise isn’t the only answer for every imbalance. A certain process, hormone or element important to your body’s function may not be working properly, thus causing weight gain or preventing weight loss. The reason diet and exercise often don’t always work for weight loss is because, while they do promote total body health, they are typically not targeted enough to address the specific imbalances keeping you fat. To lose weight, you must eat fewer calories than your body burns. However, eating too few calories can cause your body harm; this is known as very-low-calorie diets, which almost always result in gaining lost weight back. Severely restricting your caloric intake can cause side effects such as hair loss due to a lack of essential nutrients; amenorrhea, or the absence of menstrual periods; muscle cramps; and fatigue. Crash diets can also cause headaches, irritation

and dizziness. Eating too few calories can also cause your body to go into starvation mode, in which your body is not getting enough calories and begins to store any foods you are currently eating into your fat reserves for later use. Your body believes this is the last food it’s going to get for a while and stores it for a time when it’s needed. Exercising too much may make you fatigued and unable to make it through the day. And not exercising enough or doing the wrong type of exercise won’t help you get results and may give you injuries. No matter how much you diet and exercise, it may be nearly impossible to lose weight if you have certain imbalances including insomnia, hormonal issues, poor digestion, Candida, stress, bacteria, viral infections, hypothyroidism, adrenal fatigue, heavy metal toxicity and so many more. So of course, because we are all different and have our own individual needs it can seem overwhelming but the easiest answer is to get help! Unique to Cooroy ‘Make a Difference Health & Fitness’ combine the professional services of Naturopath, Maria Sturre and Fitness Trainer, Lee Smith to tailor a plan to suit you so you will start seeing results! Why should you get regular massages? TIRED, sore and stressed? Most people would agree a massage helps them to feel good. But many probably don’t realise exactly how good a regular massage is for their overall health. Did you know that massage can improve your performance, aid in recovery, prevent and help eliminate injuries, reduce stress levels and even enhance metabolism and circulation? Massage Therapy for Health and Fitness Massage to some may simply look like a lot of pressing and rubbing on skin, but it is actually quite a technical process. The reason you feel different after a massage is because it is healing and energizing tired, aching or injured muscles. Massage also helps to increase your circulation which is extremely important to your health.Massage also has many other benefits: Increase the blood’s oxygen capacity by 10-15%; Help loosen contracted, shortened muscles and stimulate weak, flaccid muscles. This muscle “balancing” can even help posture and promote more efficient movement; Speed recovery from exercise-induced fatigue; Increase production of gastric juices, saliva and urine; Increase excretion of nitrogen, inorganic phosphorus, and sodium chloride (salt). This suggests that the metabolic rate increases;· Balance the nervous system by soothing or stimulating it, depending on which effect is needed; Improves function of the oil and sweat glands that lubricate, clean and cool the skin. Though, inflexible skin can become softer and more supple; Indirectly or directly stimulating nerves the supply internal organs can dilate the organs’ blood vessels, improving blood supply.Massage and Injuries Massage also helps recovery from soft tissue injuries such as sprains and strains. Tissue growth and repair is accelerated by efficient circulation and appropriate stimulation. Everybody experiences some form of

stress through work, family, the environment and society. Mental tensions, frustrations, and insecurity cause the most damage. Hormones released by stress actually shrink the vessels, inhibiting circulation. A stressed mind and body means the heart works harder. Breathing becomes rapid and shallow and digestion slows. Nearly everybody’s process is degraded. Studies show stress can cause migraines, hypertension (high blood pressure), depression, some peptic ulcers, etc. In fact, researchers have estimated 80% of disease is stress related. Soothing and relaxing massage therapy can counteract the effects of stress.Increase the Benefits with Regular VisitsGetting a massage can do you a world of good. And getting a massage frequently can do even more. This is the beauty of bodywork. Taking part in this form of regularly scheduled self-care can play a huge part in how healthy you’ll be and how youthful you’ll remain with each passing year. Budgeting time and money for bodywork at consistent intervals is truly an investment in your health. And remember: just because massage feels like a pampering treat doesn’t mean it is any less therapeutic. Consider massage appointments a necessary piece of your health and wellness plan, and work with your therapist to establish a treatment schedule that best meets your needs.Massage is also extremely beneficial for post labour support! We have 4 Massage therapist treating at Maple St Acupuncture and natural medicine, to try and ensure that every client has a practitioner that makes them feel comfortable and helps them to achieve the best outcome with their massage as possible. First residents move in to Erindale Park our new home, visiting the site regularly after work. It has been a very positive experience working with Ausmar Homes - they have kept in regular communication and always been quick to answer any questions we have had along the way. “One of the best things will be just personalising the home, putting our family photos on the walls and making it our own. We have rented for the last 10 years and there is always a lot of restrictions on that sort of thing.” Local builders Ausmar Homes began construction of the Tomasini house at Lot 1 Erindale Park in August 2014, giving the family plenty of Lot 2 owner Daniel Williamson busy working time of prepare for the on his new home at Erindale Park. move and even meet THE transformation of family, from Tewantin, some of the new neigha once dairy-farm on the will move in to their bours. “We have already oroutskirts of Cooroy is in brand new home by the full swing, with the end of the month, and dered new furniture for Erindale Park residential they could not be more some parts of the house - now we can give them estate on Lake excited. “We can’t wait to see a delivery date. Daniel Williamson, the owner of Lot 2, has been working closely with Ausmar on the construction of his new home. Ausmar has built the structure of the home to lock up stage, and Daniel , being a plasterer has taken time off during the Christmas holidays to do the plaster work on site. With the help of some mates Daniel has nearly finished his home, and managed to save on the cost of the home along the way. The Erindale Park development was the brainchild of local Cooroy residents Kev and Val Kelly, who saw the opportunity to transform the agricultural block into much-needed residential lots. “Blocks at Eumundi, Pomona and in existing Cooroy estates were all selling quickly - and when this land became available we saw a great opportunity to create a truly special place for families to enjoy,” Mr Kelly said. “It is wonderful to see the development come to life and see young families, first-home own-

ers and others living in and enjoying the estate.” Hinternoosa Estate Agent David Crerar said Erindale Park was the region’s premiere residential development and presented a great opportunity for all buyers from first home owners, to retirees or investors. “Economists are predicting that the Reserve Bank will keep interest rates on hold or maybe even reduce them further in the first half of the year, signalling a good time to consider entering the property market,” Mr Crerar said. “House and Land packages are currently available as part of Release Four Erindale Park, known as Masonary Street. These represent excellent buying in the current market, with good growth potential as the market continues to recover.” For more information about Erindale Park visitwww.erindalepark.com.auor phone David Crerar from hinternoosa on 0418 712 054 or (07) 5447 7000 or email: davidc@hinternoosa. com.au

Register your dog to avoid a fine Did you see the steam train pull into Cooroy last week as Queensland Rail celebrates 150 years of continuous operation in Queensland. It comes back to Cooroy on February 25 at 1.23pm for a few minutes if you missed it this time.

UNREGISTERED dogs are in Noosa Council’s sights with owners facing a $227 fine unless they act quickly to register their animals. Council will begin a house-to-house inspection program in February to check for unregistered dogs. “The Animal Management (Cats & Dogs) Act 2008 requires that all dogs over the age of three months be registered with a local government,” Mr Thomas said. “Dogs born after 1 July 2009 must also be microchipped.” Residents with unregistered dogs, or registration that has expired should act now to avoid a possible fine. Dog owners should also check with Council that their address and contact details are correct, as well as ensure their microchip provider has their current details. For more information on dog registration visit Noosa Council’s website at www.noosa.qld.gov.au<http:// www.noosa.qld.gov.au> or phone Council on (07) 5329 6500.

Cougars to compete in Grand Final COOROY-EUMUNDI Cougars B and C grade have qualified for the one day grand finals which take place on the 25th of January. This is the second year in a row both these grades have qualified. Last year both teams brought home the bacon, so lets hope that this year can be much the same. B grade will be playing Palmwoods in Palmwoods and C grade finished on top of the one day table meaning they will host the game. So come on down Sunday the 25th to Sel Bonnel oval. Come have a cold drink and cheer on the boys. CARN THE COUGARS!!!

Brad Collet Photo: Julie Hartwig Photography BRAD Collet, is the 2015 Australian ‘A’ Class Catamaran champion. Brad, a member of the Lake Cootharaba Sailing Club at Boreen Point and a past champion of this event, competes regularly in International events. This glamour event attracts sailors from many parts of the world and is a feeder into prestigious racing such as the America’s Cup. However, because of a clash of dates with the International World Titles in the Moth class in Sorrento on Port Phillip Bay, numbers at this year’s ‘A Class’ titles were slightly down due to the absence of some of the more elite sailors. However, there was no shortage of elite sailing from some of Australia’s finest. Two time World champion and European

champion , Steve Brewin could only get to 7th place when he was penalized for an early start in one race and had equipment damage in another race. Second place winner was Graeme Parker and third place was Steve Brayshaw both from Victoria. Adding even more glamour to this event was the significant number of boats that were equipped with foils making this one of the first major events in the world for this class where this has happened. Foils are mounted under the hull of a boat and as the boat increases in speed, the hydrofoil lifts the hull up and out of the water which results in increased speed, possibly achieving speeds twice as fast as the wind speed.

Are you thinking about joining a friendly golf club? COOROY Golf Club is inviting women of all levels to join their 9 hole competition on Tuesday mornings. The Tuesday Club is designed for beginners to come along and join in. We have golfers of all levels playing together who are willing to help, so if you have never played golf and would like to try but have been unsure where to begin this is a perfect opportunity to come along and see if this is for you. An Australian handicap is not essential and you can play for 3 weeks before needing to become a member of the club. Memberships are currently available. We have

golf clubs for hire, balls, gloves, everything to get you started. Enjoy a coffee with some new friends afterwards. We would also welcome experienced golfers who would like to play 9 holes in our Tuesday Club competition and/or 18 holes on Thursdays. The new year competition will begin on Tuesday 3th February 2015 at 7am (arrive 6.30am) but you are very welcome to come along any Tuesday and see if our group is what you have been looking for.
