news Australian Body Art Festival to be bigger & better

COOROY RAG

ONCE again Cooroy shows that it plays in the premier league, with Cooroy Chamber of Commerce being awarded $34,500 by the Federal Government for the 2019 Australian Body Art Festival under the Building Better Regions Fund Community Investment Stream. Another stellar achievement by our fantastic Cooroy volunteers! This will be the third year for the Australian Body Art Festival in Cooroy and it is shaping up to be an event not to miss on 6 & 7 April next year. The theme is “Other Worlds” which is sure to offer up all sorts of amazing creations from the artists. The art on show includes body and face painting, Wearable Art (fashion from recycled materials). Federal Member for Wide Bay, Llew O’Brien, said the community-based projects were a positive investment in the region’s future. “The Cooroy Chamber of Commerce will receive $34,500 to organise a body art festival, consisting of competitions in body painting, wearable art, photography, and community art, demonstrations, and

street and stage entertainment. “These projects will provide new opportunities and help promote the region, ensuring that Wide Bay remains resilient and prosperous into the future, “ said Mr O’Brien. “This grant is fantastic and will help take the event to the next level. We still need support from sponsors and supporters as it is matching funding, so we also have to raise an additional $34,500. If you’ve ever thought of sponsoring this awesome community arts festival, this is the year to get on board because your sponsorship will go twice as far,” said event manager, Danielle Taylor of Firefly Solutions. The Australian Body Art Festival attracted 8000 people this year from around Australia and generated over $1 million dollars of economic benefit for the region. With the increase in funds, the aim is to double the attendance this year and provide a bigger and better show. If you’d like to get on board as a sponsor or would like more information email danielle@australianbodyart.com.au

Projects for the hinterland in Council budget

Tinbeerwah Hall is set to gain new flooring. It’s one of many hinterland projects, big and small, that Council has included in its 2018/19 budget. $5.4 million dollars will target hinterland projects in the Noosa Council’s 2018/ 19 capital works budget. “There are big and small

projects aimed at our glorious hinterland,” Mayor Tony Wellington said. “Of the larger works, $1.25 million has been set aside

for Cooroy’s iconic new playground.” “The other big-ticket items are a couple of bridges that need renewing. $2.5 million will go towards the demolition and replacement of both the Old Noosa Rd bridge at Cooran and the Mary River Rd bridge in Cooroy. These are essential works for vehicle safety. “We’ll also be spending $410,000 to rebuild sections of Black Mountain Road, following from both crash history and road condition assessments. And a similar sum will be spent across the hinterland on gravel road re-sheeting,

to replace the basketball court at Pomona’s Stan Topper Park, plus a new pathway and barbecue at Joe Bazzo Park,” the Mayor said. “New stairs will be constructed for the Pomona Cutters Club, Pomona Museum and the Kin Kin Sports Complex building. “There are also some improvements to be made to our hinterland halls and facilities. “Pomona Community House will get new airconditioning, Tinbeerwah Hall will enjoy new flooring, and Pomona Kindergarten will have its roof replaced.”

with a particular focus on school bus routes. Ridgewood will see the second stage of works designed to upgrade the dangerous intersection of Donnellys Road with Cooroy Belli Creek Rd. “Meanwhile, Maple Street at Cooroy will get a new raised pedestrian crossing, which the Cooroy Chamber of Commerce have been requesting to improve safety. “The budget also includes $155,000 to complete Cooran’s Pioneer Park upgrade, designed in consultation with the local community. “Pomona will see works

Council calls for Environment Strategy input

and the Noosa River. Plus we are considering how we can reduce emissions, increase energy efficiency and ensure sustainable living outcomes. “The new Environment Strategy will set a clear path and help prioritise all of the existing and future environment projects, and initiatives and assist Council and the community to ensure the most important environmental issues receive the focus and resources they need,” Ms Rawlings said. “Before we draft the new Environment Strategy, we’re asking residents to tell us what they think Noosa’s most important local environmental issues are. This feedback will help determine Council’s future direction for looking after the local environment,” Ms Rawlings said. Council is also meeting with community groups and organisations at workshops, forums and

COUNCIL’S draft 2018/19 budget includes $1.25M to finalise a design and break ground on a new nature-based hinterland playground at Cooroy. “These funds will allow us to present the community with a range of exciting concepts for the playground, finalise the design and start construction in early 2019,” Mayor Tony Wellington said. “The playground will be built beside Mary River Road, in front of the Cooroy library. Some of the features we’ll consider for the playground include climbing zones, a flying fox, green space, and a water play area. Project Officer Dallas Bickley says the project is one of the most exciting he has had the pleasure to work on. “The vision is for a nature-based facility,” Dallas said. “For example, the water play area will likely imitate a creek or stream, where children can build small dams and play with rocks and sand.” “The playground will also include new public amenities and barbecue shelters. These will likely be incorporated into the natural features with earth covered roofs and that sort of thing.” The Mayor said Council was aiming to create a unique playground that will draw people to the hinterland. “We want this to be a playground that brings families back again and again. It has to have that “wow!” factor - the sort of playground that young people may remember for the rest of their lives. The nature-based theme is totally in-keeping with what Noosa is all about.” The Mayor said the $1.25M commitment would fund design and the start of construction next year. Council aims to consult on the designs later this calendar year. “This project will roll over two financial years. I’m hoping it will be up and running by the end of the 2019 calendar year.”

COUNCIL is calling for residents’ input as it prepares to draft a new Environment Strategy for Noosa Shire. Environment and Sustainability Director Kim Rawlings says the new overarching strategy will guide priorities, future direction and what’s most important for Council in managing and protecting the environment. To start the process, Council wants to hear what residents regard as the biggest environmental issues facing Noosa. The community can comment online during July and August at Council’s YourSay Noosa website. “Council currently undertakes a wide range of environmental initiatives such as biodiversity conservation of particular species, pest management and habitat restoration,” says Ms Rawlings. “We also have projects to improve our waterways and catchments. These benefit our fisheries resources, water quality

IT’S been an incredible week for 150 students at Noosa District State High School. Working as teams through Australian Business Week (ABW), Year 11 students experienced what it’s like to run a multi-million-dollar company and make decisions which have real outcomes. Led by mentors from working local businesses, they worked their way through the intensive program discovering the variety of skills and effort needed to be part of a successful business part of a team managing their own business. This year students ran a simulated café. Through the week, students had to form a company, assign roles and responsibilities in the company and review key business areas. Then came the decisions about price, product, their target market, staffing and training. This year’s 10 teams of 15 members also developed a marketing strategy and mounted a trade display complete with promotional material and produce a 30 second commercial featuring their business. Finally, each team prepared a written company report explaining decisions made and the outcomes and the impact on their company’s performance and delivered an oral presentation to an audience of business people, teachers, students and parents. It made for a full week but left each participant with some valuable skills for their careers and the courage to make a difference in their chosen field. The grand champion team for 2018 was Sea Foam. The teams’ CEO Jarrah Marchio, said the ABW experience had not only benefited her team but all who took part. “The week has been an incredible one for all of us. We learned how to work together and consider everyone’s opinions. “It’s been an amazing opportunity to develop our skills in business management even though most of us haven’t had business studies as a course. We’re especially thankful to our mentor Ian McKinnon and teacher Mr. Robin Peek, who gave their time to guide and advise us,” Jarrah said. Without the support of parents, students and teachers ABW simply wouldn’t be the success it’s become, but it’s the support from local businesses that has seen the program develop in recent years. One such business is the Cooroy Community Bank branch of Bendigo Community Bank. Manager, Geoff Edwards said that after 11 years of sponsorship, the Community Bank branch will look forward to being a proud supporter again in 2019. “After being part of ABW for more than a decade, our relationship with the students gets stronger as we become more involved in each facet of it,” Geoff said. “The mentoring process during ABW is all about giving the students help where they need it, but it’s mostly about watching the groups apply their great ideas with their endless energies and talents. ABW’s success each year is a credit to NDSHS and its coordinator Alison Rexa and Principal Chris Roff. I encourage any local business owner who hasn’t been involved in ABW to find out more about the program and get involved in 2019. Some of these kids are going to make great employees for some of our local businesses in years to come,” Geoff added. If you would like to know more about ABW or how you can support the future of the program, contact the program co-ordinator Alison Rexa at NDSHS on 5472 2234.

ARE you interested in borrowing additional funds to renovate or invest? Do you want a home loan with more of the features you need? Do you want to move to a lower overall interest rate and fee structure? Your bank can help you assess whether your home loan measures up, examine your current interest rate, monthly fees and any hidden costs. This can then help determine whether your home loan delivers the kind of rewards it should. Chances are your existing home loan could do with an overhaul. It’s a good idea to check to see if your bank is looking after you. With a choice of variable and fixed interest home loans at highly competitive rates, a line of credit loan or even a greener option, there’s bound to be a home loan that suits your needs. So before looking into a new home loan or even refinancing the one you presently have, there are a few questions to ask: • Does your home loan offer fee free accounts? • Do they offer a discounted interest rate for having all your banking with them? • What about offset accounts, can you have the option of a full or partial offset? What about fees on this offset account? • Can you have flexibility in extra payments on your loan? • What about a redraw option, can you access these funds already paid in advance on your loan? • Does your bank have a local manager there to approve your loan on the spot? • Will they be there to assist you after the loan has been completed? It’s all about getting the right loan for you. Remember it only takes a short time to get a loan approved, but takes a long time to pay it off, so you need to have a good relationship with your bank and make sure you actually have one with your bank manager - and that’s where your Cooroy and Pomona Community Bank

branches come in. If you would like to see if your loan measures up, please contact us on 5447 7131 (Cooroy) or 5485 1786 (Pomona) or me directly via geoff.edwards @bendigoadelaide.com.au.

Do I need an accountant to do my tax return? Chad Monroe Certified Financial Planner® of Provision Wealth Management* Depending on whether your finances are straightforward or more complex, you may choose to do your tax return yourself or engage a professional. If you have multiple sources of income, various investments, possibly your own business or have lots of deductible work-related expenses, using an accountant (who’ll need to be a registered tax agent) to prepare and lodge your tax return may be useful. However, if the only income you earn is from your employer and you don’t have many deductions to claim, or investments you’re making money on, you might choose to lodge your tax return online yourself via myTax, which is accessible through the Australian Government’s myGov website. If you’re not sure which way to go, here are a few pointers that might help you with your decision. If your finances are relatively simple, you might consider lodging your own tax return (which you’ll need to do by 31 October, for the previous financial year), while saving money on what a registered tax agent might charge you. According to the Australian Taxation Office (ATO), the benefits of lodging your tax return online via the myTax system is it’s safe, secure and most of the information from your employer, bank and government agencies will be pre-filled for you by around late August. Meanwhile, even if your situation is a little more complex, you can still use myTax if you have investments, rental properties, capital gains or are a sole trader. On top of that, the service is available all day, every day so you can lodge your return at anytime and you’ll generally get your refund within two weeks, which may be faster than doing it another way. If you do want to use a registered tax agent to

prepare and lodge your tax return, it’s important to note you will pay a fee for their service, but it’ll typically be deductible in next financial year. Note, tax agents must be registered with the Tax Practitioners Board (TPB) and you can find a registered tax agent or check whether a person is registered by visiting the TPB website. If your finances are more complex, going down this path may provide you with peace of mind, as it could save you time, highlight deductible workrelated expenses you didn’t know about, while ensuring all your claims are legitimate. On top of that, most registered tax agents have a special lodgement program, which means they can usually lodge returns for their clients after the usual 31 October deadline, but you’ll need to contact them beforehand to ensure that’s something you can take advantage of it you want to. Whether you plan to lodge your tax return yourself, or use a professional, you can use the myDeductions tool in the ATO app to save a record of your deductions throughout the financial year, which you can upload at lodgement time. To ensure you’ve got all the relevant information you need ahead of filing your tax return, check out the ATO’s tax time checklist . Lake Macdonald Dam upgrade LAKE Macdonald Dam (Six Mile Creek Dam) is one of a number of dams identified for upgrade as part of Seqwater’s Dam Improvement Program. This will be the first major upgrade for the dam since it was built in 1965 and raised in 1980. In 2012-13 Seqwater commissioned an independent review which found improvements were needed at a number of dams, including Lake Macdonald, to meet the dam safety guidelines and bring them in line

with the latest engineering standards. More than 100 options were assessed and upgrading the existing dam is the most cost-effective solution to improving dam safety, while also maintaining water supply and flood mitigation benefits, and keeping the lake open to recreation in the future. Work will involve: constructing concrete foundations for the new spillway; building a new ‘labyrinth’ spillway; reconstructing

the existing earth embankments (dam walls). Labyrinth spillways are made out of concrete and look a bit like a saw tooth blade. Due to area constraints at the existing dam site, the unique spillway design was selected to efficiently control water flowing out of the dam. The new spillway will work in a similar way to the existing spillway. When water reaches the dam’s full supply level, it will spill over the concrete ‘saw teeth’ and into Six Mile Creek downstream. The final design of the upgrade is expected to be completed late this year, with construction scheduled to begin in mid-2019, subject to approvals. The

water level in the lake will be temporarily lowered a few months before work begins for the safety of those working on the dam and living downstream. Before the upgrade begins, a temporary coffer dam will be built to hold the remaining water back during construction and preparations made for a concrete batching plant on site. Once construction is complete, the dam’s drinking water storage level (or full supply level) will be reinstated. Lake Macdonald Dam is located in an urban area, so it’s important neighbours and people downstream know what to do in the unlikely event of an emergency. The dam has

an Emergency Action Plan in place to enable Seqwater to respond quickly to potential incidents in partnership with emergency services and local council and, through targeted intervention, prevent an incident from developing into an emergency. The plan also means appropriate and effective warnings can be given, if needed. Emergency services have a range of ways to warn the community about severe weather and other emergencies that require preparation and action at the household level. Kerbside bulkrubbish collection has started NOOSA Council kerbside bulk rubbish collection is almost here. In addition to knowing your collection date, residents will need to segregate their rubbish at the kerb. Council’s Waste Manager Wayne Schafer says the collection will take place over eight weeks, with Cooroy, Cooroy Mtn, Lake Macdonald, Belli Creek and Black Mountain starting on Monday July 30. “Metal items for recycling need to be in one pile, with a second pile for repairable household items and a third pile for all other rubbish,” Mr Schafer said. “A different truck will collect each of the three types of items. So, to avoid their rubbish being missed, residents must make sure they segregate it.” Residents should place their sorted items at the kerb on the Sunday afternoon before their suburb’s collection week begins, no earlier. Collection contractors will not accept garden waste or items such as batteries, tyres, gas bottles, nor objects that can’t be lifted by two people. Council will again provide a paid mattress collection service in conjunction with the kerbside bulkrubbish collection. The cost is $30. Payment must be made prior to collection day. To book the mattress collection service, residents need to phone Cleanaway on 07 3708 9812 before 4.30pm on the Wednesday prior to their collection week. Contractors will collect a maximum of three cubic metres of rubbish per house, and six cubic metres per unit complex. For further information, consult the brochure, which will be delivered to homes prior to collection day, or visit Council’s website at www.noosa.qld.gov.au/ kerbside-collection for more information.

news Is your Superannuation Yours?

COOROY RAG

AN often overlooked aspect in Family Law Property Matters is the Court’s treatment of superannuation. Prior to 2002 superannuation wasn’t treated as Property in Family Law proceedings unless it was a self-managed super fund, the superannuation was vested, or it could be treated as a financial resource. This often meant that for parties to Family Law proceedings to receive a just and equitable outcome one party may have ended up with superannuation but no realisable assets and/or vice-aversa. Recognising the deficiency in the existing treatment of superannuation, the Government passed legislation in 2001 which changed the characterisation of superannuation under the Family Law Act. Superannuation is now defined as “property” within section 4(1) of the Family Law Act. This means that superannuation will form part of the matrimonial asset pool and the court is able to make adjustments to the superannuation interests of the parties. This includes the power to prevent one party from transferring their superannuation elsewhere without a court order. The court also has the power to make superannuation splitting orders. A superannuation splitting order generally allows the court to take the superannuation interests of one party and add it to the superannuation fund of the other party. This can include superannuation earned before, during or after the relationship. It is important to note that access to superannuation of the other party is limited until the conditions of retirement in relation to the superannuation fund have been met. Accordingly, despite the powers of the Court to make superannuation splitting orders, the Court is not compelled to exercise this power and will not do so, unless appropriate. However, superannuation splitting orders can often be valuable in

• underwear • sleepwear • lingerie

circumstances where one person has worked more than the other during the relationship (and has therefore accumulated superannuation and the other hasn’t). Having regard to the future needs of the parties, a superannuation splitting order may be appropriate to accommodate for the non-working party to be cared for in their retirement. Superannuation splits can be effected by way of consent order, financial agreement or by court order in contested proceedings. However, there are very specific processes which must be followed in order to give effect to a superannuation split. Accordingly, it is always recommended that you get legal advice to help you understand your rights and responsibilities and how the law applies in your case. So, if you are contemplating separation and the division of your assets, keep in mind that your superannuation may not ultimately be yours. COOROY RAG Majestic Theatre screens ‘Blue’

Exhibition @ The Art Hub

Congratulations Mr Roff

By Anne Yang

Tim Silverwood Is Your Life Too Plastic. Photo lisalowenborg As part of Plastic-Free July, Council and Unitywater will host a free screening of the movie Blue on July 19 at The Majestic Theatre, Pomona (doors open at 6pm) to highlight the immense toll disposable plastic has taken on our oceans. Blue tells how half of all marine life has been lost in the last 40 years and how, without drastic changes, there will be more plastic than fish in the sea by 2050. “The film, which features Tim Silverwood from TV’s War on Waste, explores the state of our oceans and looks at what we need to do to fix them,” says Council’s Waste Education Officer Emma Menzies. “Featuring passionate advocates for ocean preservation, the film tackles themes of habitat destruction, species loss and pollution. It’s a must-see for anyone interested in the current state of the world’s oceans.” Research shows that approximately half of the plastic used annually around the

world is used for single-use products such as water bottles, packaging, takeaway containers and over half-a-million straws that are used every day. “Blue reveals why the tide needs to turn,” Ms Menzies said. Unitywater Community Relations Specialist Kate Cash said Plastic-Free July aligned with Unitywater’s Back To Tap campaign. “We understand the devastating impacts plastic can have on our waterways and marine life and even the smallest change in our behaviours today can help to make a difference for tomorrow,” she said. “Our Back To Tap campaign promotes sustainable consumption of water, specifically by swapping single use water bottles for tap water, and we’re proud to be part of this great event to help educate the community about plastic waste prevention.” Bookings are essential. To book, visit www.eventbrite.com.au

The Art Hub Cooroy, at Shop 3/ 2 Emerald Street (next to Jamaica Blue) is hosting an exhibition by Anne Yang, Master Pastellist and Carol Watkins, Ceramic Artist from Friday 20 July until 10 August. The opening night is Friday 20th July 2018 from 5.00pm until 6.30pm and we’d love to see you there. This is an opportunity to preview some works by two of the Hinterland Artists participating in Noosa Open Studios in August. Anne’s paintings highlight her love of the immediacy and vibrancy of the soft pastel medium to portray the contrasting variety of colour, texture and form in the landscape along with the illuminating power of sunlight. Carol’s passion for alternative firing methods such as raku, naked raku, smoke and saggar, involves experimentation, unpredictability and serendipity resulting in at times, breathtaking results and always one-off pieces.

Maypole dancers wanted Children with good rhythm aged 8/9 - 12 and ladies aged up to 105 are invited to come along and learn to dance this lovely community dance to weave ribbons around a pole. Seniors jam the hall for Scone time Cooroy RSL Club farewells Phil

Phil Hutchinson is presented with a farewell gift after his resignation as RSL Club Board President COOROY RSL Club staff members presented Phil Hutchinson with a bottle of Glenfiddich as a thank you for his work as President of the Board after he stepped down from the position last week. Mr Hutchinson, who has served 12 years on the board, including three years as Vice President and 6 months as President, said he would like to thank all the staff at the club who do an exemplary job. “I have nothing but absolute admiration

Page 12 - Cooroy Rag, July 18, 2018

for the wonderful work they do, their loyalty and their service,” said Mr Hutchinson. Manager, Tina Mayfield has also left the Club and new Board President, Mike Gearing, said that at this stage, until a new manager is appointed, it will be business as usual. “Patrons can rest assured that until a new manager is appointed the Club’s long-standing and capable staff will ensure a smooth transition,” said Mr Gearing.

SCONE Time at the delightfully refurbished Cooroy Memorial Hall was another resounding success last week. The many senior members of our community who turned up for the event again enjoyed a lovely social occasion catching up with friends they don’t get to see regularly and enjoying a beautifully presented Devonshire tea. Creator of the event, Sunshine Coast Foodie Martin Duncan, whipped up his mouth watering scones served with locally made Rosella Jam and cream. For those who preferred coffee, Traecy Hinner supplied her local Kin Kin grown Noosa Black Coffee. Guests included President of the Cooroy Memorial Hall Committee Paul Kluck, Jim Ennis who let attendees know what was happening at the Cooroy Butter Factory, and Mark Wischnat from Pets for Life, an organisation that assists Seniors in caring for their pets.

Event sponsors also enjoyed the morning. Wythes Real Estate have been involved in Scone Time as a major sponsor since the very first event last month. They have collaborated with Martin to promote and manage Scone Time. Their contribution to each month’s event includes financial sponsorship, a promotional video and social media campaign, planning, volunteering our staff members time to set up, serve attendees, be table captains, and packing up and cleaning up after the event. The Cooroy Rag was also pleased to be able to donate $500 to Scone Time. “This is what the Cooroy Rag is all about,” said editor, Brenda Gladwood. “To be able to help ensure that such a well-received community event can continue is a very satisfying part of what we do.” Dont miss next Scone Time on August 14, starting at 10am.

In a wonderful display of community connection, the annual Tall Trees Art Exhibition saw 22 venues on King Street Cooran celebrated art - inside and out. President of Tall Trees Art Inc., Mia Hacker said the generosity of venue hosts, open studios, sponsors, volunteers and artists across various arts platforms was something the hinterland village can be proud of. “When people come together and thrive on being inspired, the social outcomes are great. The street was alive with smiles and creative conversation, a soap box or two and a vibe

that’s unique to Cooran,” Mia shared. The Tall Trees Art Exhibition is a pure grassroots art exhibition that showcased paintings and drawings, handmade paper and hanging installations, digital lighting and sound exploration, light morphing and photography. The 3D sculptures impressed many people, the use of metal and clay that transformed as the eyes followed lines, glass artworks with lead lights and delegate natural fibre creations, were a feast for finding inspiration. “I feel we have triumphed in following our strengths and delivered an innovative and exciting way to be immersed

health Are you at risk for Osteoporosis?

COOROY RAG

IT wasn’t that long ago that age-related bone degeneration and subsequent loss of height, due to osteoporosis was accepted as a normal part of ageing. In Australia today it is estimated that 15% of women and 3% of men over the age of 50 suffer from osteoporosis. Fortunately there is a great deal you can do to protect your bones and reduce the risk of osteoporosis affecting you. Nutritionist and Naturopath, Jodie Persovic, explains more. Osteoporosis occurs when there is a loss of calcium and other minerals from your bones, which undermines the normal bone structure and therefore strength. A reduction in mineral content is referred to as a loss of bone mineral density and results in porous, brittle bones that can be easily broken in a fall or merely carrying out everyday activities, such as lifting heavy shopping bags. Osteoporosis is often called a ‘silent disease’ as there may be no indication that a loss of bone density is happening until a fracture occurs. However, it’s not only broken bones that are of concern as reduced bone mineral density can also lead to significant pain, immobility and ultimately a loss of independence. So what can you do to maximise your bone density and reduce bone mineral losses? During your growth years, calcium and other minerals from your diet form the foundation of strong healthy bones, with peak bone mass being achieved during your 20s. A lifelong diet with plenty of dark green leafy vegetables, sardines, nuts and seeds, as well as quality dairy products when tolerated, all offer excellent sources

of calcium. Getting sufficient vitamin D through moderate sun exposure along with regular weight bearing exercise, which helps promote bone density, all help create a solid foundation for skeletal health. By your mid-30s bone mineral density begins to wane naturally, however poor lifestyle choices such as smoking and excessive alcohol intake, as well as the onset of menopause in women can all accelerate this process. At this time diet becomes even more essential to ensure you are obtaining sufficient nutrients to keep your bones strong. However, obtaining your daily nutrient needs through diet alone is not always achievable. In these situations supplementation can prevent further decline of bone health. If a supplement is required it is essential to choose one with the right amount of calcium and phosphorus. The ideal ratio is two parts calcium to one part phosphorous. Other key nutrients include zinc, boron, magnesium and manganese which all support healthy bone formation. In addition to these bone-building minerals, vitamins K and D also play important roles by regulating calcium movement into bone. So again, regular safe sun exposure is key, although supplementation of vitamin D may still be needed in some cases. Jodie Persovic is the Principal Dietitian and founder of Nutrition Means. She is also a Naturopath and specialises in a wide range of health conditions. For more information call 0419 668 803, or visit www.nutritionmeans.com.au

AFTER a week of rain a dryer than expected field at Maroochydore greated the Cutters as they faced the Swannies at home. After seeing the Swans kick to early leads in the first two games of the year the lads were eager not to see that become three. Early penalties & repeat sets saw the Cutters hit the lead after 9 minutes after a slick backline movement finished with Riley Lourigan scoring outside. Maroochydore’s frustrations boiled over not long after which saw them reduced to 11 men for a brief period. During this time Jake Scanlan scored right next to the posts after a magic ball from Luke Martin. Jonah Hogetts-Hope converted to make it 10 nil. The second half was end to end stuff with neither team wanting to to give an inch but it was Luke

Martin who finally scored outwide to give a commanding 14 nil score line to the Cutters. Maroochydore crossed for a well deserved try at the death to see the full time score Cutters 14 Maroochydore 6. Kyle Jones picked up the 3 votes, Riley Lourigan 2 & Jake Scanlan 1. Dont forget the Cutters travel to Beachmere to play Kilcoy in a must win match Saturday July 21. There is a bus running, if you are interested please see the Cutters Facebook page at www.facebook.com/ officialpomona-coorancuttersrugbyleague for departure details. Don’t forget the volunteer run Cutters Country Kitchen is open Friday nights. Helpers are always welcome. Weekly specials can be found at www.facebook.com/cutterscountrykitchen
