Bendigo commits to King of the Mountain for three years
Smiles all round in Stan Topper Park, Pomona as the new sponsorship deal for King of the Mountain is celebrated! - June 2013 THE major sponsor of the Pomona King of the Mountain festival, Bendigo Bank has announced a new three year pledge to Australia’s most gruelling and historic
mountain race. Through its Cooroy Community Bank branch, the branch’s parent company, Sunshine Coast Community Financial Services Ltd has
committed $6,000 to the staging of the event in 2013 and the same amount in 2014 and 2015 - an $18,000 commitment to an iconic event about to celebrate its 35th running.
A delighted Cooroy Community Bank branch manager, Geoff Edwards said as locals the branch recognises how important an event this is for Pomona.
“It’s precisely what our Community Bank is about. This is about banking profits going back into our community and it’s because of the support locals’ show us that we can announce sponsorships as important as this one,” Geoff said. “Pomona King of the Mountain remains one of the best opportunities for our community to get together in the Noosa hinterland. Who would have thought a simple bet in a pub in 1958 would see us all here in 2013 preparing to cheer on amazing athletes and celebrate hard working volunteers - particularly the Pomona Lions Club, on July 28? We’ve been proud to support the event for the past three years and we’re delighted to announce our new commitment here today,” Geoff added. Pomona King of the Mountain chairperson, Jim Austin said the committee is overthe-moon to have a three year commitment from the Community Bank. “All members of the King of the Mountain committee are very excited about having Bendigo Bank on board for another three years. As a committee, we’re proud to say the race itself is self funding but the festival surrounding the race is getting bigger each year and to have a Com-
munity Bank supporting something so important to this community is just terrific,” The 35h Pomona King of the Mountain Festival on July 28 is a free fun day out for the whole family with the Bendigo Bank International Mountain Challenge, Zinc 96.1 Mountain Dash, Nestlé Family Fun Run, Cooroy Rag Tug of War, school relays, market stalls, food, entertainment, live music, rides and much, much more. Australian Business Week means business NOOSA District State High School (NDSHS) has now successfully hosted Australian Business Week for the tenth straight year and their appetite for the program hasn’t waned. Australian Business Week (ABW) offers students the opportunity to acquire the skills necessary to run a company. In an exciting one
week intensive program, students experienced what it is like to run a multi-million dollar company and make decisions which have real outcomes. They worked as part of a team managing their own business. This year students ran a hotel simulation business and with the help of a business and teacher mentor discovered the variety of
skills needed to be part of a successful business in the 21st century. Over the week students performed tasks in teams ranging from forming a company, assigning roles and responsibilities in the company and reviewing key business areas. They had to make decisions about price, product, their target market,
staffing and training. This year’s 17 teams also developed a marketing strategy and mounted a trade display complete with promotional material and produce a 30 second commercial featuring their business. Finally, each team prepared a written company report explaining decisions made and the outcomes and the impact
on their company’s performance and delivered an oral presentation to an audience of business people, teachers, students and parents. It made for a full week but left each participant with some valuable skills for their careers and the courage to make a difference in their chosen field. This year, the team named
