Congratulations to our Queensland Day Award recipients

WHERE would we be without our volunteer workforce? Last week a deserving bunch of volunteers were honoured at the Noosa Electorate Queensland Day Awards, including six deserving recipients from Cooroy and four from Pomona. Cooroy’s recipients were Paul Kluck, Chris Bell, Heather Ford, Danielle Taylor, Clytie Glass and Winifred Wynn and from Pomona Barry Stewart, Cherry Bright, Alice Shipp and Maura Harvey. They were presented with a medallion and certificate of appreciation by our local State Member, Sandy Bolton at an Awards Ceremony at the Noosa J. The awards are in recognition and appreciation for the amazing work and contribution these people have done for our community. A total of 31 people in the Noosa electorate, from a broad range of community and business

sectors including community associations, professional services, sporting clubs, regional events and local initiatives, received the award. Older people are indeed over-represented in the volunteering community, which was reflected in the audience on the night. The ceremony also showcased a younger, emerging group of volunteers. Young and old, community members celebrated the spirit of our community and our collective dedication to protecting our unique culture. Virtually every person who lives in the Noosa Shire has made a conscious decision to come here and having made that decision have joined a not for profit group of their choice to give back. Since its inception three years ago, one of the awards major sponsors has been Bendigo Bank. Tewantin branch manager, John Hague said partnering the Noosa electorate and Sandy Bolton continues to be an easy decision.

Free family fun at Festival of Water NOOSA Festival of Water - 10am-3pm 24 June 2018 - Noosa Botanic Gardens - Lake Macdonald Drive Cooroy Back in 2005, the initial impetus for the Noosa Festival of Water was water quality and environmental care around Lake Macdonald, which supplies Noosa’s town water. Today the Noosa Festival of Water has evolved to become an annual showcase of our region’s ecological attributes with a primary aim of improving community awareness of how each of us can play a part protecting and preserving our environment in our day to day lives. By providing local landholders and visitors to our region with opportunities to connect with experts involved with land, water and wildlife management, the Festival helps to generate the interest and commitment to environmental initiatives needed to make a genuine difference. The Mary River Catchment Coordinating Committee (MRCCC) hosts the Annual Noosa Festival of Water as a part of its role

promoting a sustainable and productive catchment. The Mary River is 310 km long and has one of the most diverse catchments in Queensland covering 9595 km. From the headwaters near Maleny, the river and around 3000 km of tributaries flows to the internationally significant wetlands of the Great Sandy Strait and Hervey Bay. On the day of the Festival local Aboriginal traditional owners, the Gubbi Gubbi people, who have walked these lands since the dawn of time, perform a welcome to country and share their rich cultural heritage through dance and storytelling. The Festival Fishing Competition, kayaking, paddleboarding and boat trips showcase the recreational attributes of Lake Macdonald and the Noosa Botanic Gardens, reinforcing the need to care for the environment so these magnificent, natural assets will continue to be available for future generations to enjoy and appreciate. The involvement of Seqwater and

Unitywater creates an additional focus on protecting and conserving our precious water resources. In line with our environmental aims, Unitywater’s “Back to Tap” Hydration Station and discounted stainless steel water bottles supplied by Noosa Community Biosphere encourage festival goers to stop using single use plastic water bottles. Each year the Festival showcases the work of local performers and artists with entertainment in the Amphitheatre this year featuring The Strangest Dreamers, the Andrea Kirwin Trio, multi-instrumentalists Phenix Band and the InSingC Choir. Arts activities for children are focused on caring for the land and water in the Noosa Biosphere. Reptile and wildlife displays and presentations always draw a lot of attention as do the many community groups who provide information and displays on a wide range of environmental issues and initiatives in the region. The Gerry Cook Hatchery in Mary Cod Park on the shores

tanical Gardens and Lake Macdonald are one of our region’s best kept secrets and first time festival goers are often surprised by the stunning backdrop these local natural wonders provide for The Noosa Festival of Water. For further information visit our Facebook Page or website www. noosafestivalofwater.org.

of Lake Macdonald opens to the public on the day of the Festival providing a rare opportunity for locals and visitors alike to learn how wild populations of the Mary River cod, one of Australia’s most endangered freshwater fish, are being restored. This free, family friendly, annual event has something for everyone. The Noosa Bo-

Great to be Under 8 COOROY State School’s annual Under-8s Day celebration was held recently. The event was all about revelling being under the age of eight and creating awareness of services, activities and organisations from our Noosa community that are aimed at children and support their families. The morning allowed these services and organisations to showcase what they have to offer these children and the wider community in an educational and fun-filled morning. This year marks the 62nd year of Under 8’s Week in Queensland. Locally, the Cooroy Tewantin Community Bank branch of Bendigo Bank got involved as an extension of the great and long-standing relationship they have with the school. A colouring-in competition was held and some great prizes were generously donated by the Cooroy Community Bank branch. Customer relationship officer, Jo Winter was there talking with parents, and sharing with the kids whilst handling out magnets, stickers, balloons and bookmarks as mementos of the day. Parents, grandparents and other family members of Cooroy State School students joined in with the activities. What a day!

Parents concerned about ‘threat’ procedures

Email: david@starihaauctions.com.au www.starihaauctions.com.au

PARENTS of students at Noosa District SHS received an email last week from the Principal, Chris Roff, advising them of a ‘threat issue’. The email stated that graffiti of a threatening nature was discovered at the school but that the Police had been advised and it appeared that there was no credibility to the threat and it is believed to be a student prank. Parents are outraged that it took so long for them to be officially informed of the situation after students had come home a week earlier saying there were security guards at the school. One parent, who wishes to remain anonymous, expressed her dissatisfaction in the length of time it took for the school to contact her. “My daughter came home from school days prior to me receiving the letter from the school, saying that there was some sort of graffiti found in the boys toilets threatening a shooting and and it said “this is not a joke”. “We talked about what she should do if this were true, but in the back of my mind I thought it was just a schoolyard Chinese whisper, and that if it were true the school would have notified me. “To get an email from the school a week later confirming the threat, is not just disappointing, it’s scary. It really is unacceptable.” Mr Roff said the children had been informed of safety procedures and he had followed advice from the Education Department and Police.

The Probus Club of Cooroy meets on the first Monday of each month in the Anglican Church Hall, Miva Street, Cooroy.

news End of Financial Year checklist - Part 2 COOROY RAG

Geoff Edwards, Cooroy & Pomona Community Bank Branches of Bendigo Bank IN my last column, I wrote about THAT time of year again – getting prepared to complete your annual tax return. I spoke of group certificates, interest earned from shares and not forgetting claiming your bank fees. Now is a good time to see you accountant and financial planner to see what affect the latest federal budget changes will have on your tax situation. Income protection insurance is one deduction you need to include. You may be direct debiting this, so your insurance company should send you a statement outlining your payment. Bank fees can be claimed. Source them from your bank account statements or your bank directly. Uniforms costs associated with your work may be relevant. These include purchasing of new uniforms and the laundering or dry cleaning of them. What about any study or training associated with your work throughout the year? Costs associated with this may be relevant. Do you use your car for work? Running costs may need to be included. Investments loans over assets such as property or shares can have interest and costs included as possible deductions. Additionally, running costs associated with the property may also be included. Receipts or bank statements should outline this information. This list has certainly not exhausted all possible income and claims, they are just a few of the main ones you may need to think about. Your accountant is always a good source of information. Your bank will also be able to assist you with statements and information relating to your accounts and loans.

Some banks, like ours will offer health cover and may have even had incentives if you joined up before the end of the financial year. What about superannuation and the co-contribution the federal government is offering? Is this applicable to you and have you made the appropriate contributions for the year? Lastly, what about the great rebates the federal government is offering small businesses? Have you looked into these to see if your business can benefit? Your accountant can offer further information on this rebate and your local bank manager can provide options for financing business items. If you would like to know more about how your Cooroy and Pomona Community Bank branches can help with you, your family and your business with a full range of banking services including superannuation, insurance or business and equipment finance, please contact us on 5447 7131 (Cooroy) or 5485 1786 (Pomona) or me directly via geoff.edwards@bendigoadelaide.com.au.

news Are the Birdsville races on your bucket list? If it isn’t - it should be!

COOROY RAG

JUST imagine travelling to the biggest shire in Queensland with the smallest population for the Birdsville Races – an event which attracts around 7,000 people from across Australia and around the world and has the world’s most entertaining fashion show. Karrabee Bus + Coach take their personalised 12-day tour across Queensland’s glorious outback to Birdsville races every year and describe this tour as ‘12 days, 21 pubs, 1 horse race and 1 hell of an experience’ – and their guests attest to that. Travelling in air-conditioned comfort, guests are taken on an action-packed tour of the best of Outback Queensland’s iconic sights, locations and activities where they are guaranteed to fall in love with Outback Queensland and its people. The Birdsville Outback Pubs Tour visits 21 pubs along the way where guests either sleep

in outback pubs, have a counter lunch or just stop in for an afternoon beer to meet the locals. One exciting change to the tour this year is the usual visit to the Betoota, previously a ghost town with one building – an abandoned pub. Now the town has a population of 2 and the pub will reopen for the first time in 20 years. This will be just one of the highlights this year. The tour experiences include sunset drinks on top of Big Red, soaking in the iconic Eulo Mud Baths, taking a punt on the International Yabby Races and witnessing sunset reflecting in the massive solar power cells at Windorah. The not-so-musical have even been seen having fun playing the Musical Fence in Winton and everyone loves visiting the amazing Age of Dinosaurs. There is plenty to do at Longreach including the Stockman’s Hall of fame and a wonderful sunset cruise on the long-reach of the Thomson River is followed by a traditional stockmen’s dinner with bush poetry at Starlight’s Spectacular Sound and Light Show. Standing under the Tree of Knowledge at Barcaldine and listening to the wind move the ‘branches’ of his amazing artistic creation is an experience not to be missed. The journey is captured with images of people, places and wonderful moments along the way and presented as a book for guests to remember their personal journey. If you don’t have a full 12 days to spare, there is an option to fly into Birdsville so you don’t miss the races. This fully escorted tour leaves the Sunshine Coast on Monday 27 August for 12 days. IF you’re in or approaching retirement, you may be prioritising things such as living costs, utility bills, health care and even helping the kids out with their future financial goals. With many Australians looking at a retirement of 30 years or more, another thing to give some thought to is keeping some money aside for your own pastimes and recreation. It’s important to think about, particularly as Australians are remaining active for a lot longer.1 What activities are on my to-do list? The things you may want to do for fun in retirement could include a range of things, such as: Sport - golf, cycling, yoga, pilates, dancing, water aerobics; Hobbies - fishing, sailing, photography, drawing, woodwork; Volunteering - hospitals, soup kitchens, animal shelters; Club associations - Rotary, Leagues, Surf Life Saving; Entertainment - cinemas, stage shows, concerts and events; Travel - road trips, caravanning, interstate breaks, overseas holidays; Dining out - restaurants, food fairs, beach barbecues, picnics; Friendly tournaments - bridge, chess, trivia. How can I budget for the things I enjoy? If you need a guide, each quarter the Association of Superannuation Funds of Australia (ASFA) benchmarks the annual budget needed to fund a comfortable and modest standard of living in retirement. According to June 2017 figures, individuals and couples, around age 65, need an annual budget of $43,695 and $60,063 respectively to fund a comfortable lifestyle in the years post work -assuming they own their home outright and are in relatively good health. Broken down into a weekly budget, singles need on average $837.99 and couples around $1,151.90.

How much am I likely to spend on recreation? According to ASFA, singles and couples living a comfortable lifestyle in retirement would spend between $225.79 and $309.42 of their weekly budget respectively on leisure and recreation. This takes into account a broad range of recreational activities, including : Club memberships; Lunches and dinners out; Movies, plays, sports and day trips; Domestic and international holidays; Things like digital cameras, television and DVDs. How can I make my money go further for the fun stuff? Make use of your seniors card for transport concessions and other discounts; If going overseas isn’t in your budget, consider a stayat-home vacation; Find two-for-one food and beverage deals via sites like TheHappiestHour; Pack a rug, food basket and esky, and head to the park for a picnic; Swap a visit to the day spa with a DIY manicure and candle-lit bubble bath; Have the troops over for a poker night and take turns hosting dinner parties; Find cheap accommodation on Airbnb or list your place to earn money while you’re away; Swap an interstate flight with a road trip. There are lots of routes across Australia. How’s your water quality?

SUNSHINE & Cooloola Water Testing is a new, small business, supporting the local Sunshine Coast community with experienced, professional, affordable and timely services in water quality analysis/ testing on the Sunshine and Cooloola Coasts, from Nambour to Noosa, Doonan, Tinbeerwah, Cooroy, Pomona, Cooran to Kin Kin. If you have staining from your bore water and wonder why and/or need to know some chemistry of your water in order to select the right filter, Peter Forgarty can help. You

may simply wish to know if your rainwater tank passes the Qld Health Guidelines for microbiological quality. :After working for 20 years in Local Council Laboratories to the changing landscape of forced council mergers and retail water utility take overs, I personally witnessed a need for a more efficient, local water testing service on the Sunshine Coast, so I took off my lab coat for a more hands-on approach to real world water problems,” said Peter. Hence this business was born, especially for those on tank and/or bore water. If you wish to use your own private supply for drinking and/or irrigation and domestic (washing/laundry/toilet) purposes, Peter will analyse a selected and targeted range of parameters. “I perform microbial analysis for detecting and enumerating E. Coli, as an indicator for potential pathogens, in tank and bore water complying with the Australian Standard (AS 4276.212005). You have the results within 24 hours after sample is received, together with pH, Total Dissolved Solids, Iron, Manganese and Hardness for those of you on Bore, and compare the results with the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines. “I will report any water quality issues so you can make a more informed decision as part of your own risk management. Big-laboratories won’t give you any recommendations or advice, they just punch out results with no or little interpretation. Try getting the appropriate bottles, paying upfront, and delivering them back full to any other Lab, you’ll be confronted with cut-off times and confusion. “Some labs won’t even accept samples on a Friday. Most times I’ll come to you and take the sample/s as part of my service for locals.” For more information or to book online, just visit the website www.scwatertesting.com.au or phone Peter on 5447 4226 or 0432 382 392.

Want your business to work smarter and faster? IF you want your business to work smarter and faster, cloud accounting software is a wise investment says Sarah Kelly from Sunny Coast Accountants. “Working in the cloud will give you a better overview of your finances and improve collaboration with your team. Small business accounting software that’s not available via the cloud can be tedious. Traditionally, it can suck up far too much of your business’ time and effort. This doesn’t add value, and takes the fun out of being in business. Cloud software can save your company time and money,” says Sarah. Problems with traditional accounting software: • The data in the system isn’t up to date and neither is the software. • It only works on one computer and data bounces from place to place. For example, on a USB drive. This is not secure or reliable. • Only one person has user access. Key people can’t access financial and customer details. • It’s costly and complicated to keep backups (if done at all). • It’s expensive, difficult and time consuming to upgrade the software. • Customer support is expensive and slow. Why the cloud and accounting software are the perfect match You can use cloud-based software from any device with an internet connection. Online accounting means small business owners stay connected to their data and their accountants. The software can integrate with a whole ecosystem of add-ons. It’s scalable, cost effective and easy to use. In the cloud, there’s no need to install and run applications over a desktop computer. Instead, you pay for the software by monthly subscription. Mervyn (Merv) Raymond Watson October 5, 1934 - May 25, 2018 MERV was remembered by his family and friends at a Memorial Service held last week at Gregson and Weight as a true blue Aussie character who touched many lives. Prior to his retirement Merv drove the school buses for years but his career was as colourful as he himself was. He was a long haul truck driver, owned a pub in Biloela and a Foodland franchise in Morven before moving to Cooroy. He lived in Ashmond Villas for 25 years and formed many close friendships. He was often seen around town on his Harley

with his little dog and favourite companion ‘Ruski’ sitting in a little custom built dog box. He loved fishing, water skiing and golf. In fact, whilst living in Morven and realising the town had no golf course, he built them one. That was the sort of person he was, nothing was too much trouble. Merv genuinely loved to help people. He always had time for a beer and a chat. He always had a story to tell. Merv will be sadly missed by his many friends, his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Managing stress naturally WE all experience acute stress from time to time, that’s a normal human response to our environment. But when stress hangs around, it becomes chronic, and this adversely affects the immune, endocrine, nervous and cardiovascular systems; essentially every system in the body is disrupted by stress. This is not only mentally exhausting but physically debilitating. Stress is s precursor to many if not most disease states. Self care isn’t just a pleasure, it’s essential to our health and wellbeing. Stress is an emotional experience accompanied by predictable biochemi-

cal reactions in the body. Stress resides in the body, expressing itself as tension, pain, high blood pressure, weakened immunity and the list goes on. Body work therapies such as massage and osteopathy aim at bypassing the mind, using the body directly as a means of releasing tension, moving congestion, and relieving pain through manipulation & movement. This feeds back to the mind and helps to clear the mental clutter, working to cultivate a sense of peace and stillness. For some of us who live in a non-stop stress state (which isn’t too uncommon in this modern, fast-paced lifestyle), a session on the table can remind us of a more relaxed baseline to work towards. One amazing thing about the body is its ability to adapt to the incredible stressors it faces. Couple this with the mind’s tendency to forget, and we have a state of normalised dysfunction. It’s not the load that breaks you down, it’s the way you carry it. Massage and osteopathy have broad applications in their use in both the acute & chronic management of pain, tension, and injury. Osteopathy is incredibly useful in recognising habits (for example: posture, gait, work station dynamics) that are negatively impacting on one’s musculoskeletal health, helping the individual to implement positive change. Massage is a helpful way to create movement in the body where there is congestion and stiffness; this not only feels good (yay!) but is a great way to reduce inflammation. Maple St Acupuncture and Natural Medicine is a space to support the health of our wonderful local community. Feel free to pop in any time for a cup of tea and a chat about any of our services. Do you suffer with gout? KNOWN sometimes as the “rich man’s disease” or “disease of kings” because it is often associated with the intake of too much rich food and alcohol, gout is actually a type of arthritis; that is, it causes inflammation in the joints. It is characterised by recurrent attacks of extreme pain, swelling and redness. A distinct different between gout and other types of arthritis is that gout happens suddenly, often overnight. Other types of arthritis develop slowly, with gradual worsening of symptoms. The pain from gout can be quite excruciating and sometimes, even the weight of a bed sheet can cause intolerable pain. Gout is usually caused by the kidneys not flushing uric acid out of the body quickly enough. However, there are many lifestyle tips that may assist you in managing/ preventing outbreaks. Here are a few tips from our LiveLife pharmacists: Maintain a healthy body weight. However, remember that if you do need to lose weight, ensure it is done gradually, as “crash diets” can increase uric acid levels in the body; Cut down on alcohol consumption and avoid binge drinking; Drink plenty of water, as this can help to remove uric acid from the body. Aim for 8 to 16 glasses a day; Exercise regularly; Maintain control over any high blood pressure problems; Try to adjust your diet to limit the intake of “purines” that are thought to cause gout. Consult a dietician for further advice. To be more specific with diet, the Mayo Clinic have developed what they call a “gout diet” which involves the following important factors to help you manage this painful condition: Limit meat, poultry and

fish. Animal proteins are high in purine. Avoid or severely limit high-purine foods, such as organ meats, herring, anchovies and mackerel. Red meat (beef, pork and lamb), fatty fish and seafood (tuna, shrimp, lobster and scallops) are associated with increased risk of gout. Because all meat, poultry and fish contain purines, limit your intake to 4 to 6 ounces (113 to 170 grams) daily; Cut back on fat. Saturated fat lowers the body’s ability to eliminate uric acid. Choosing plant-based protein, such as beans and legumes, and low-fat or fat-free dairy products will help you cut down the amount of saturated fat in your diet. Highfat meals also contribute to obesity, which is linked to gout; Limit or avoid alcohol. Alcohol interferes with the elimination of uric acid from your body. Drinking beer, in particular, has been linked to gout attacks. If you’re having an attack, avoid all alcohol. However, when you’re not having an attack, drinking one or two 5-ounce (148-millilitre) servings a day of wine is not likely to increase your risk; Limit or avoid foods sweetened with high-fructose corn syrup. Fructose is the only carbohydrate known to increase uric acid. It is best to avoid beverages sweetened with highfructose corn syrup, such as soft drinks or juice drinks. Juices that are 100 percent fruit juice do not seem to stimulate uric acid production as much; Choose complex carbohydrates. Eat more whole grains and fruits and vegetables and fewer refined carbohydrates, such as white bread, cakes and candy; Choose low-fat or fat-free dairy products. Some studies have shown that low-fat dairy products can help reduce the risk of gout. For more information visit your LiveLife Pharmacy in Cooroy or Pomona.

A gorgeous character filled homestead suits the spot and is nestled in privacy yet captures the panoramic views back to town and across to majestic Mt Cooroy and Mt Tinbeerwah. First time offered for sale, the current owners built the home about 28 years ago with renowned builder Harold Boreham. Pavilion style, the main building houses the large open plan living with soaring raked ceilings and plenty of windows and cedar framed French doors, with views in every direction. Beautiful brushbox timber on the floors, the modern kitchen was updated only a few years ago and boasts granite bench tops, induction cooking, soft close drawers and a walk in pantry. The super sized main bedroom and stunning ensuite complete with a large bath are also in this area. Wide timber verandahs to relax and enjoy the outlook and covered deck area to make entertaining a breeze. A timber walkway links to the other two studio style pavilions, each with its own bathroom and private balconies. A terrific style that embraces

the relaxed nature and feel of this home and its surrounds. Outside the land is predominantly cleared and has been used for cattle grazing. With the local area experiencing approximately 62 inches of rainfall per year there is a high head carrying capacity of approximately one beast per two acres. There are four dams, a creek with water in the back valley too. Power is connected to the two stables plus tack room with an adjoining set of cattle yards. A steel framed tractor shed with extra high doors and verandah front house the property’s machinery, which will be sold with the property. Such a delightful property with a couple of rows of macadamia trees and established palms and golden canes. There’s opportunity as to what the new owners might like to do with the property, horses, cows or small crops, its all a possibility here. Time is of the essence now that the decision has been made to sell the property. Please call or email for an information booklet and to arrange your private inspection of the property. This will be sold on auction day, if not before! Contact Murray Brown 0419 491 395, Jeanette Catalano, 0422 923 851, Hinternoosa.com.au 5447 7000.

Five important things to look for in a property manager Is your property manager experienced enough to be able to deal with any - Crisis? Dispute? Issue? Anger? Do they have the experience and knowledge on how to deal with the situation, diffuse the situation & negotiate a successful outcome for all parties? They Should. Does your property manager stay in regular contact? Update you regularly on any aspects of the tenancy as they arise? Do they inform you about maintenance prior to receiving your statement? Do they allow you to participate in decisions relating to maintenance, tenancy issues, your investment property? Do they give you quarterly inspection reports with photos following a routine inspection? They should… Do you deal with just one person or do you always appear to be

www.cooroyrag.com.au

talking to someone different? Have you had the same property manager since you commenced renting your investment property or has there been a churn of staff? Is your property manager prepared to go the extra mile and provide an exception service? Do they respond to complaints or issues in a timely manner? Are repairs taken care of right away or put off? Are they prepared to work through until the job is done? Or does your property manager treat the job as just that. A job! Arriving at 9, leaving at 5. In this industry a property manager must be passionate about the job she does and enjoy it. Does your property manager have the expertise to maximise your return? Offer 12-month leases so there is no vacancy

in that 12-month period. Less wear and tear/ maintenance as long-term tenants treat the property as if they owned it and will usually attend to minor repairs themselves. Less fees with only one let fee. Rent review with every lease renewal Two disbursements every month - more frequent payments will save you $$ on interest per year Less vacancy time – Inspections by prospective tenants at time of request, Professional marketing of the property with multiple sites, Professional photos, Marketing at current rental value rather than inflating the price and then have it sit vacant for an extra two weeks (i.e. advertised at $500, market value $480. Property sits vacant for two weeks and then the price is reduced to meet demand. Loss of

$1,000. Takes a year to make it up), Knowing the market and matching the lease to suit. If the property has a pool it has little appeal in May – August. Ensure your lease ends when tenants will be wanting a pool thus prepared to pay extra rent to secure this. Can often be a difference of $30 per week, Allow pets. Permitting tenants to keep pets can be a fast way to secure higher rental returns. Property manager must include clauses in the rental agreement that places the responsibility on the tenant to rectify any damage that a larger pet, such as a dog, may cause. www.cooroyrag.com.au

ONE of Countryside Realty Cooroy’s elite agents, Kimberlea Thwaites, has been selected as one of the 10 REIQ young guns for 2018. The young guns competition run by the REIQ seeks young professionals who can

demonstrate outstanding achievements across the profession in the past year. In an industry traditionally dominated by an older individual, it focusses on the young professionals who are willing to put in the hours and demonstrate that they

have what it take to achieve success for their clients. It’s quite an achievement for Kimberlea who has been one of the top selling agents in the Noosa Hinterland for a few years, but her competitors for this elite position are agents that sell in much more densely populated areas with a higher turnover and higher prices placed on properties. Not only is it an outstanding achievement for Kimberlea, but it’s such an achievement for our little patch of home in the Noosa hinterland. The publication ‘REIQ Journal’ dedicates a whole edition to the Young Guns of the year, meaning huge exposure state wide for Kimberlea and for the area she sells in. Kimberlea is as local an agent as they come, having grown up living in Doonan attending both Eumundi and Cooroy schools, working in Cooroy for her entire professional life and buying her first property in the hinterland, she more than gives back to the community that gave so much to her - sponsoring the local schools newsletters, the Cooroy RSL and Pomona bowls club.

Cutters Corner AFTER a defeat by Yandina the PomonaCooran Cutters headed to Kandanga to face Maroochydore. As has the case when they faced the Swans this year a slow start ensured with Maroochydore going to a 16-0 lead inside 20 minutes. Over the next 50 minutes the Cutters played the football they have been known for & took the score to 3816 before a late Swans try made the final score 38-22. The 3 points went to Brock Shelley 2 Points to Riley Lourigan & 1 point Liam Cobb Kilcoy made the trek to Tewantin for what promised to be a huge game & neither team disappointed. Kilcoy went up 12-0 early before a try to Lachlan Proctor was converted

by Ben Webb made the half time score 12-6. A try not long after the break by Des McLeary made it a 2 point ball game before Handking errors gifted a try to Kilcoy which was converted to make it 18-10. In a frantic last 15 minutes both teams put on a show with crunching defence. A converted try to Brock Shelley made it a 2 point ball game & the tension showed. Kilcoy were made to finish the game with 12 men after an incident involving most of the players from each team. With only several seconds left on the clock a Hail Mary kick into the corner was grounded by Darcey Crawford-Ricards to steal an improbable 20-18 win.

Congratulations to Terri, the Women’s Captain and her committee on a well-run Women’s Open Day on 5 June 2018. There were 93 women from a number of clubs as far away as Caloundra and Tin Can Bay. The shotgun start in perfect weather resulted in an excellent day of golf followed by a relaxed lunch together. Our club is noted for the support it receives from its members and this was evident on the day which started with a scrumptious morn-

ing tea and finished with a beautifully presented lunch. Our sponsor, Jacquie Kiel from Cooroy LiveLife Pharmacy presented Adina Watches to the Nett winners: Diane Chard (Cooroy), Maria Taurer (Cooroy) and Gross Winners were Jean Brkic (Mt Coolum), Eve Hunt (Cooroy), and Lynne Dawson (Cooroy). Irene Lally’s trophies for Seniors were presented to Maria Taurer (Cooroy) and Karen Allen (Gympie). The support of our sponsors is greatly appreciated.

COOROY RAG Rugby Union: Eumundi Dragons U8: Eumundi Dragons were out in force at Maleny Bushrangers on Saturday with all teams playing in the hinterland except for our strapping under 9,s who had a bye. With winter colds keeping a few of our U8s in bed true to the great spirit of the club U9’s Alex Eaton was more than willing to play for us. Alex is young enough to play down an age so we were more than happy to have his skills on the field. The younger boys really liked having a big kid on the field and tried there best to keep up and support him on the breakdowns. While we may have been outplayed by the terrific Lighthouse team on the field we received high praise from the Caloundra coach and supporters after the match letting us know how much they enjoy our friendly games. Stating that our boys are gentlemen and a great bunch of kids to play against. This week the player of the game was Josh Vine who is developing into a great ruckman and controller of the game with his ability to make valuable field position and look for support to keep the ball and players all onside. Josh celebrated with an ice cream. Proud dad celebrated later joining the Dragons family to watch the Wallabies V Ireland at our sponsors Imperial Hotel. U7: U7s played Caloundra at the picturesque Maleny grounds on the weekend in a tight tussle that saw the lead constantly changing. The Dragons executed some brilliant passing in open play and determinedly defended their tryline through multiple phases. Both teams snaffled up a loose ball which resulted in runaway tries. Daisy Turner excelled in her second game with gritty defence, try saving tackles out of nowhere and speedy attack scoring in the corner, picking up the Player of the Match and an award from the Caloundra team for her efforts. The team’s sportsmanship and commitment is a reflection of the great coaching by Scott Griggs. Special thanks to U6s Jack Cooper and Tristian Youd for fronting up again to make up the team numbers and played again like U7s. U6: On a frosty winter’s morning we ventured to Maleny to showcase their rugby prowess against a well prepared Caloundra team. Caloundra came out fighting with lighting fast passing but the impenetrable Eumundi Dragons defence kept them at bay on more than one occasions. But defence was not the only mid-year improvements the dragons demonstrated, the Dragons’ offence was impeccable and a true indication of how these Young’s titans have been training and playing hard so far this year. With multiple tries by CJ, Nixon and Tristan, fantastic defence by Isla - who walked away with ‘man’ of the match, Henry and Jack the battle on the mountain was a spectacle for all. Thank you to all the parents and friends who made the effort for the away game and go the mighty Eumundi Dragons.
