Enjoy the Festival of Water at Lake Macdonald

THE Noosa Festival of Water takes place on the last Sunday in June each year at the Noosa Botanic Gardens on Lake Macdonald. The Mary River Catchment Coordinating Committee (MRCCC) hosts this free family event to improve community awareness of some of the special features of the Noosa region which make it such a great place to live. Everyone is invited to come along to listen to music in the Grecian style amphitheatre overlooking the Lake, wander the gardens taking in community displays, enjoy the food and join in activities for all interests and age groups while learning more about our beautiful region. The Festival offers a range of activities for kids including the fishing clinic where junior anglers can learn from the experts from the

Lake Borumba Fish Stocking Group. Budding artists can create their own artwork featuring some of the special fauna which inhabit the Noosa Biosphere. Kids will also love the native animal and snake and reptile displays. There is also free face painting and a jumping castle for the littlies while older kids and adults can try out stand-up paddle boarding and kayaking on Lake Macdonald - just bring your boardies and towel! The amphitheatre will showcase some incredible local talent including Lyndon Davis and the Gubbi Gubbi Dancers, music from up and coming young multi instrumentalists Phenix and some jazz inspired soul from Sommer Rd. Festival favourite, Martin Fingland and his native animals will round off the program. A free boat trip will take people across the

Lake to the Gerry Cook Hatchery where the breeding program for the endangered Mary River Cod will be on display. A tour of the Noosa Water Treatment Plant will originate from Mary River Cod Park which can also be accessed by vehicle from Collwood Road. The Lake Macdonald Catch and Release Bass fishing competition is also on the 26th of June. Entry forms are available from Hooked on Angling and Outdoors in Tewantin or download a form from the Noosa Festival of Water website www.noosafestivalofwater.org Bring your own picnic to enjoy on the lawns or in the amphitheatre or enjoy the coffee, food, ice creams and drinks on sale around the gardens. Noosa residents with a copy of their rates

notice can collect two free trees from Noosa Landcare, have their creek, dam or bore water sample tested by MRCCC and learn about local plants, animals and the environment from the wide range of community organisations who all have displays and information available at Lake Macdonald on the day of the Festival. To help with parking a free courtesy bus will travel along Lake Macdonald Drive. Sunday June 26th, 10am to 3pm. For more information and a full copy of the program visit the Noosa Festival of Water website at http://www.noosafestivalwater.org or call the MRCCC on 07 5482 4766. The Noosa Festival of Water is supported by Noosa Council, Seqwater, the MRCCC, Noosa Landcare and the staff at the Noosa Botanic Gardens.

ABW to put young lives on new paths

Geoff Edwards from Bendigo Bank and Alison Rexa with some of the NDSHS Year 11 students, excited about all that ABW will have to offer NOOSA District State High School Year 11 students are about to get down to business. During a rousing oneweek intensive program, students experience what it is like to run a multi-million dollar company and make decisions which have real outcomes. It’s all part of Australian Business Week (ABW) and it’s in its thirteenth year of existence at the school. ABW co-ordinator, Alison Rexa says each team has all the usual challenges companies face in

the week the cohort is together. “This year students will be running their very own resort simulation. With the help of business and teaching mentors they will discover the variety of skills needed to be part of a successful business in the 21st century,” she said. “Through the week, teams of students will perform tasks having formed and named a company, with each student nominating for a role such as a general manager or marketing, operations or finance manager.

“They will work from an ABW manual covering the key business areas, making decisions about price, product, their target market, staffing and training. The 15 teams must also develop a marketing strategy and host a trade display complete with promotional material and produce a 30 second commercial featuring their business. “Finally, each team will prepare a written company report explaining decisions made and the outcomes and the impact on their company’s performance

Diversity Exhibition at Pomona Gallery Check out the Old Railway Station Gallery in Pomona on Saturday, July 2. This painting by Beatrice Prost will be displayed in their yearly King of the Mountain Exhibition opening at 11am. The Exhibition is called “Diversity”.

and deliver an oral presentation to an audience of business people, teachers, students and parents. It makes for a full week, but will leave each participant with some valuable skills and the courage to make a difference in their chosen field,” she added. Without the support of parents, students and teachers, ABW simply wouldn’t be the success it has become. Importantly, it’s the support from local businesses that has seen the program develop in recent years.

One such business is the Cooroy Community Bank branch of Bendigo Bank. Having committed to sponsoring ABW for another year, branch manager Geoff Edwards said the Community Bank is looking forward to providing mentoring support to go along with its financial assistance. “Assisting in the mentoring process during ABW is all about giving the students help where they need it, but it’s mostly about watching the groups apply their ideas with their endless energies and talents,” Geoff said. “I encourage any business owner who hasn’t been to ABW to come along as some of these kids are going to make great employees for some of the coast’s top businesses in years to come,” Geoff added. The ABW program will conclude with an Awards Ceremony at NDSHS to be held on Thursday, 23 June from 7.00 pm. Trade Displays will be open in the main hall from 6.30 pm for families to view the efforts of our students. If you would like to know more about ABW or how you can support the future of the program, contact the ABW program coordinator Alison Rexa at NDSHS on 5472 2234.

They have finished their induction, attended council meetings and have toured the Shire with council staff to get an overview of matters that the council is working on. Jess, Ingrid and Brian are keen to hear what we have to say about issues affecting Cooroy and its surrounding area, and they would also like to present their ideas for discussion. Come along, meet our new councillors, and help shape our future. At the Cooroy RSL on Tuesday June 28, 6pm.

There’s no doubt about we Australians, we are a funny lot, We live in a beautiful country, and don’t appreciate what we’ve got. Our media is filled with negative doom and gloom, Nothing bright and cheerful, there never seems to be room. Our politicians keep wailing the country’s on the slide, The behaviour of our rulers leaves the people unsatisfied. They seem to have little interest in the problems of our youth, Why don’t they tell them the really honest truth? Our country is quite prosperous, we’re not going broke, The pollies and the media, keep telling us we’re going up in smoke. Every generation has its problems, but they manage to survive, Most of our problems are solvable, we don’t have to fight to be alive. The media should not be talking so much about threats which may not be there, Let’s talk about a bright future, show that we really care.

24 MAPLE STREET COOROY I 0421 663 888

Letter to the editor I HAVE just sent emails to our local stores IGA Cooroy and Pomona and thought I would also continue with this to you. I have commended both stores on their service to our communities and also what they give back to our local areas. But I wanted to address the fact that for years the green bag has been pushed to their customers yet plastic bags are still given out freely. When is the transition to happen when plastic bags are banned. There are many large stores throughout Australia that have taken the stand and no longer supply these bags or charge extra to customers who chose to still use them. So I have put it to IGA to also make a stand and ban the plastic bag. Surely in this day and age with the growing awareness we have for our environment that this is a small way to help. Perhaps it can also be put to our community on their views on this topic. And yes you may well say, not the environment issue again, but really, it needs something to happen.

www.cooroyrag.com.au

We are lucky enough to live in the Noosa shire who are very conscious on this issue but the council can only do so much. It is up to us as citizens to demand a change. On a similar rave, are recycle bins. Have you noticed there are public recycle bins outside the library, but none at the park or for that matter anywhere else in town. Surely it would make sense to position recycle bins near takeaway stores where most of the rubbish should be recycled. I will be addressing this to the council, but thought it warranted a mention here as well where your paper reaches the majority of locals and perhaps might just spark an interest in your readers and like minded people. I must also comment, that the rag has been around for a long time and is enjoyed by many including myself. Keep up the great work and know that you are appreciated in your efforts to bring to your readers, local knowledge and news. Wendy Haebich

Happy 5th Birthday Lu! Hope you had a magical day. Love mummy, daddy and Bodhi xx

THE end of the financial year is upon us and that means it’s time to get your finances organised and collate all your details relating to your tax return. A well prepared return could result in some timely funds being returned to your pocket. Organising your tax return early also gives you an advantage being that most of your income sources and claims should be fresh in your mind. Possible claims can be easily missed when six or twelve months have gone by. Income items that you may need to collate include wages or salary from your employers over that last twelve months. This is generally a group certificate and should be provided to you automatically. Chase them up if you don’t receive it. Interest income is another source that needs to be included. This is income that has been earned on your bank accounts credit funds such as savings, investments or term deposit accounts. Your bank will be able to provide you with this information. Income earned off any shares that you hold is important. These dividends should be outlined in a statement you receive from the company issuing the shares. If you don’t have this statement your accountant may be able to access this information for you. If you own an investment property, you will need to include any rental income that you have received during the year. Your managing real-estate agent will be able to issue you with a statement detailing this income. You then should collate any possible deductions that you have. Income protection insurance is one that you need to include. You may be paying this as a monthly debit to you bank account. The insurance company should send you a statement outlining your payment. Bank fees can be claimed. Source them from your bank account statements or your bank directly. Uniforms costs associated with your work may be relevant. These include purchasing of new

uniforms and the laundering or dry cleaning of them. Receipts are good. Did you engage in any study or training associated with your work throughout the year? Costs associated with this may be relevant. Do you use your car for work? Running costs may need to be included. Investments loans over assets such as property or shares can have interest and costs included as possible deductions. Additionally running costs associated with the property may also be included. Receipts or bank statements should outline this information. This list has certainly not exhausted all possible income and claims, they are just a few of the main ones you may need to think about. Your accountant is always a good source of information. Your bank will also be able to assist you with statements and information relating to your accounts and loans. In the next edition of Cooroy Rag, I’ll continue with the end of financial year check list with a few more items to check off. If you would like to discuss your finances or current banking relationship, please contact me on 5447 7131 or on email at geoff.edwards@bendigoadelaide.com.au.

Money tasks to set on autopilot Chad Monroe Certified Financial Planner® of Provision Wealth Management* Set yourself up to be better off in the new financial year. As the new financial year draws closer, it’s a good idea to set yourself up to be better off. By automating some dayto-day money tasks, you can focus on the big picture and get yourself on the road to financial success. 1. Reach a goal with savings You may have a goal, or several, that you’d like to reach in the shorter term. Whether it’s buying a new car, saving enough for a deposit on a home or funding your next great escape, decide how much you need as a lump sum then work backwards to calculate

how much to save each pay day. Set up a savings account and then arrange a regular direct credit from your salary. Aim to earn some interest along the way as an added bonus, and make sure you avoid any high fees. 2. Build your super nest egg Super’s a tax-effective way to save - you’ll have the chance to make your future self super happy too. You can ask your employer to automatically allocate additional before-tax dollars to your super each pay day, which is known as salary sacrificing. Use a salary sacrifice calculator to see how

these before-tax contributions can not only help you keep more of your earnings - rather than letting them go to the tax man but can make a big difference to your retirement nest egg. 3. Automate your way to being debt free If credit card debt is weighing you down, aim to get rid of it by firstly putting a hold on adding any more to it, and then automating the repayments, so you know a certain amount is coming off at a certain time each fortnight or month. Set up a regular payment into your credit card and aim to repay at least the minimum monthly amount before the due date rolls

around. You’ll have peace of mind that you’re avoiding any late payment fees and will enjoy seeing the amount you owe consistently reduce. 4. Enjoy day-to-day luxuries too Consider setting up a bank account for flexible expenses like eating out or shopping for a new pair of shoes. That way you can enjoy some day-to-day indulgences while working towards your big picture goals. Book some time in your diary to map out your goals for the new financial year. Then use our tips to put some money tasks onto autopilot. If you need help with set-

ting and reaching your financial goals, please contact us on 07 5447 7740, we may also be able to help. *Chad Monroe of Provision Wealth Management Pty Ltd ABN 52 149 014 004 Authorised representatives and credit representatives of AMP Financial Planning Pty Limited AFS Licence No. 232706 What you need to know: Any advice in this editorial is of a general nature only and does not take into account the objectives, financial situation or needs of any particular person. School farewells Ms Garbacz Noosa District State High School has seen the end of a very significant era, with the school’s longest serving teacher, Elizabeth Garbacz, handing in her resignation on June 7. Ms Garbacz was a drama teacher and head of department at NDSHS for 40 years, as well as a student of the school and the parent of three children who also attended the school. Ms Garbacz made an astonishing contribution to the school and was the integral in the 50 year celebrations of the school, held two years ago, which helped many past students reconnect with former peers and teachers. The student services department at the Cooroy Campus was able to set up restorative practices and the management and fine-tuning of the uniform and

Robin Jestrimski, Joyce Cunningham and Darren Fletcher discussing the ageing jaw bone. Elizabeth Garbacz with Principal NDSHS Chris Roff behaviour policy with Ms Garbacz’s firm, but kind attitude to rules, routines and procedures at the school. Students thoroughly enjoyed Ms Garbacz’s classes which were always taught in an entertaining, memorable and passionate way. NDSHS staff and students will miss Ms Garbacz’s boundless energy, her compassion for others and the dedication Ms Garbacz had for her job. Ms Garbacz taught because she loved teaching and thoroughly enjoyed giving back to the community by helping young people learn. She will be greatly missed by the NDSHS community, and we wish her all the best with her exciting new chapter of life.

IT is amazing what information you pick up when you are a member of a Probus Group. Darren Fletcher, a dental prosthetist, was our guest speaker at the Cooroy Probus Club this month. Darren works for Advanced Oral Dental Care, a local clinic and mobile service. We listened with interest to a very informative and insightful chat about oral hygiene, structural changes and dental needs as our bodies age and to the services available here on the Sunshine Coast. A robust debate developed as we discussed the cost of dental work done here in Australia verses the cheaper options offered overseas.

Darren did convince most of us that implants and dentures are becoming better and cheaper all the time and that Australia offers the best and safest materials to have inserted in our mouths. Anyone needing more information should ring Advanced Oral on 5444 6116. news Noosa Hinterland Denture Services Introducing Llew O’Brien - Candidate for Wide Bay

COOROY RAG

Advertorial LLEW O’Brien is the LNP candidate for Wide Bay and he is committed to building a stronger economy that creates jobs and growth. He is married to Sharon and they chose to raise their three children in Wide Bay because they love the region. In the past 12 months Llew has been awarded three times by Queensland Police for ethical and diligent conduct. Building a safer Bruce Highway is a priority for Llew. Early in his police career Llew became a qualified traffic accident investigator and in this role he carefully investigated some of the worst fatal and serious crashes along the notorious Cooroy to Curra stretch of the Highway. In 2013 he was part of the team that supported the former Member for Wide Bay, Warren Truss and the Coalition into government. This delivered $2 billion to upgrade the Bruce Highway through Wide Bay, including funding for sections of the Cooroy to Curra four lane project. This commitment is building faster, safer Highway that is less prone to flooding.

Llew is part of the Liberal Nationals Coalition team that is delivering on its plan to invest in better health and education services, environmental projects and improved mobile and broadband communications in Wide Bay. The Coalition Government is increasing health and education funding to record levels. Federal funding to schools is growing by 28.3 per cent and will keep rising and funding for Queensland hospitals is increasing by 27 per cent. Extending mobile phone coverage and prioritising the NBN rollout to Wide Bay is also important to Llew. The Coalition’s NBN rollout is on track and on budget. Under Labor, only 1,137 premises in Wide Bay were connected to the NBN. Under the Coalition, there are now 24,039 homes and businesses in Wide Bay that can connect to the NBN. By the end of 2018 there will be 46,640 homes and businesses in Wide Bay that are ready for service or under construction. Labor’s gold plated NBN would have taken 6 to 8 years longer to rollout than the Coalition’s, increased monthly internet bills by up to $43 per month, and cost $30 billion more. The Coalition has also committed $220 million to extend the mobile phone network to eliminate black spots. Ensuring people are safe in their local community is essential. Recently, Llew, together with former Prime Minister Tony Abbott and former Deputy Prime Minister Warren Truss met with the Cooroy Chamber of Commerce and local Cooroy traders to announce $200,000 to install CCTV cameras in Cooroy. The cameras will provide an extra level of protection to people and businesses in Cooroy to make local streets safer. Llew is committed to working with all levels of government and the private sector to attract new investment to Wide Bay, to ensure that every local family, household and business has the opportunity to share in our nation’s pros-

perity. To achieve this, Llew and the Coalition team will invest in science and innovation and cut red tape, to assist business and local sectors including agriculture, seafood, manufacturing and tourism. In stark contrast, Labor wants to shut down job creating industries, increase taxes by $100 billion over the next 10 years, and bring back the carbon tax that will act as a brake on the economy and make every household and business pay more for electricity, goods and services. The Coalition’s plan to provide tax cuts and incentives will lift investment, boost competitiveness, increase productivity, and create jobs and growth.

CONGRATULATIONS to Wendy, the Women’s Golf Director and her committee on a well-run Women’s Open Day on 7 June 2016. There were 112 women from a number of clubs as far away as Bribie Island and Tin Can Bay. The shotgun start in perfect weather resulted in an excellent day of golf followed by a relaxed lunch together. Thank you to all those who helped to organise the day, set up the clubhouse, provided morning tea and prizes for the raffle, sold tickets, checked cards and handicapped the event and provided assistance out on the course. Our club is noted for the support it receives from its members and this was evident on the day. Special thanks to our

President Rob Powell who acted as starter. Our sponsor, Jacqui Kiel from Cooroy LiveLife Pharmacy presented Adina Watches to the Nett winners in the three divisions, and Irene Lally presented the veterans’ trophies. We thank them for their generosity. It was a clean sweep for Cooroy as Nett winners: Terri Cairns, Patsy Fayne and Mary Miller. Gross winners were Silvana Phillips (Noosa Springs), Colleen Mitchell (Caboolture) and Muriel Willett (Cooroy). Veterans’ trophies went to Patsy Fayne (Cooroy) and Marie Young (Tin Can Bay). YOGA as practiced in Australia is often oversimplified or just completed misunderstood. There are many different physical styles on offer (Iyengar, Ashtanga, Hatha, Kundalini, Vinyasa) and this often leads to even more confusion; not to mention the unique style and interpretation offered by individual Yoga Teachers! It’s hard to know exactly what to expect. When it comes to the meaning of yoga every practitioner will have their own understanding based on personal experience, however the word itself means ‘unity; to yoke’ or ‘ to connect’. There are many different ways to practice Yoga, but here in the west it usually means the physical postures called ‘asana’, so when you head to a yoga class you can expect to use your body. One of the many misperceptions about going to a yoga class is that you have to be flexible to do it. In fact, yoga is for anyone of any age, gender, weight, ethnicity or physical fitness. Yoga will help you to understand and connect with your body by building strength, mobility, flexibility and body control. You need not have any things to start, a regular yoga practice is the means by which you can obtain them. A good teacher will sequence a class to warm up your body and guard against injury allowing you to move at your own pace and providing guidance to help you achieve a position that works for you. Along with the physical aspect you can expect to be guided in your breathing technique during the class. Yoga encourages diaphragmatic breathing through the nose at a steady, deep and consistent pace throughout the practice. Depending on the type of Yoga and your teacher there may also be some additional specific breathing exercises/techniques offered and these are referred to as Pranayama (breath control). Depending on the class you head to you may practice to music, use props like blocks and straps

or be invited to chant in Sanskrit (Indian language) such as ‘Om’. The last thing you will most likely do is lay flat on your back to rest and this is called Shavasana, this usually goes anywhere from 5-10 minutes and is a form of meditation and relaxation. At the end of the class the teacher will most likely say ‘Namaste’, put simply it means ‘I bow to the divine in you’ and mostly students say it back although it isn’t compulsory. Make sure to tell your teacher if you do not wish to be physically adjusted or touched during the class for whatever reason. Yoga is mostly open to interpretation by the teacher so if you don’t like the style and approach of one then there are many others that may offer something that resonates with you. Questions to ask the teacher/studio before heading to your first class? • What style of Yoga is taught? • What level of experience is the yoga class suitable for? • How long does the class go for? • What will I need to bring with me? • Do you have an introductory offer for new students? If you’ve ever wanted to try out Yoga, Cooroy now has it’s very own dedicated yoga studio. Chillax Yoga Co offers new students unlimited classes for $20 across their first 7 days and runs Beginner Yoga Workshops to get you going comfortably. Ashley is the owner and head teacher at Chillax Yoga Co teaching Slow Flow, Kids Yoga and Restorative. She is passionate about healthy sustainable living and offers wellness, alternative and community based workshops throughout the year. Located at 2/50 Kari St, Cooroy. health Belly Fats: what you need to know and do

COOROY RAG

HOW much flab you have in your abdomen has a big impact on your health. Losing fats in your midsection does not only improve your overall appearance – it also improves your quality of health and lowers your risk of certain diseases. Health experts all agree – abdominal fat is the worst type of fat you can get. But what makes it so harmful? To understand its impact on your health, you should know first that abdominal fat comes in two different forms: the subcutaneous fat and the visceral fat. The first type of abdominal fat is like the fat elsewhere in your body. It may not pose danger to your health but it doesn’t do you good either. The second type of fat, called visceral fat, is one that surrounds your internal organs. Visceral obesity is linked to the risk of high blood pressure, high blood sugar levels, and heart disease. Unlike the subcutaneous fats, the visceral fats cells release their metabolic wastes directly to the portal circulation, which carries blood straight to the liver. As a result, visceral fat cells are enlarged and stuffed by excess triglycerides, which deliver free fatty acids to the liver. These fatty acids also accumulate in the pancreas, heart, and other organs. This results to organ dysfunction, affecting your insulin levels, blood pressure, and cho-

lesterol levels. Visceral fat has also been linked to dementia, and certain forms of cancer, such as breast cancer and colon cancer. What causes belly fats? Consuming too many calories can lead to an increase in your waistline. Any kind of calories – whether from fatty foods, alcohol, or oversized portions of food, can lead to belly fats. Abdominal fat is often called ‘beer belly fats’ because alcohol calories are so easy to overdo. A glass of beer for example has about 150 calories. And if you down several glasses in one sitting, you can get calorie overload. Not to mention the caloriedense foods you eat along with your beer. Abdominal fats tend to be more common among older people because as you advance in age, your calorie requirements also decline. Older people also tend to exercise less often so gaining weight is much easier. How to lose excess belly fats There’s no magic bullet to reducing belly fat. It is a result of a combination of proven methods – proper diet, exercise, sleep and stress management. Reducing your calorie intake or limiting it, will reduce your chances of gaining belly fat. avoid consuming processed foods, saturated fats and high-fat meals. Instead, choose whole foods that are high in fibre and nutrients, and low in calories. Exercising is also necessary to reduce belly fats. Doing aerobic activities like jogging, cycling, swimming and running is also beneficial. Here’s the good news, make a difference health and fitness can offer you help with their combined professional services of naturopathy, nutrition and fitness training. Enjoy the convenience of Greenwood Grove The Re-opened Garnet Street bridge gives access for Cooroy residents and the Industrial Estate Traffic congestion in Maple Street Cooroy is set to reduce considerably and quickly due to the completion of the new Garnet Street crossing over Cooroy Creek. This has caused considerable extra traffic to and from the Industrial Estate to detour via Garnet Street, just like it did a few short years ago. The bridgework was built and paid for by the developer of Greenwood Grove Estate and this has taken longer than expected. Works are estimated to have cost approximately $2 million. The residents of Greenwood Grove are now able to drive directly to the business centre, this along with the newly opened footbridge in the Parkland has made this development very popular with Noosa and Cooroy buyers. Greenwood Grove spokesman Rob Midgley said, “The new infrastructure was an important asset for the local community as Cooroy continues to grow in popularity. “Greenwood Grove is currently the largest residential development in the Noosa Shire and with strong sales recorded over the past year, it’s important that infrastructure is upgraded in order to meet future population growth. “Garnet Street is one of the busiest streets in town as it provides direct access to local shops, the school and sporting facilities. Greenwood Grove will continue to bring more residents to the area so it is important that we provide current and future residents with quality local infrastructure”, Mr Midgley said. Mr Midgley said. “With average size lots of 856sqm, buyers are embracing the opportunity to build a large home for a growing family with room for a pool, shed or an extended outdoor alfresco area. “Stage four of Greenwood Grove sold out in record time and this has partly been driven by the quality of the estate along with the lack of large, flat, fully serviced lots within close proximity to Cooroy’s main street which is only a leisurely five minutes stroll away. Stage five is now 50% sold. “Residents have easy access to local conveniences including the IGA supermarket and other retail shops, the post office, pub, gallery and other local attractions. Noosa Heads is just 25 minutes down the road and if you need to get to the city, Cooroy also has a direct train service to and from Brisbane. “With prices commencing from $228,500, we encourage interested buyers to call our office on 5447 7198 or visit www.greenwoodgrove.com.au for more information,” Mr Midgley added.

COOROY RAG

A day to remember

SOCIAL PLAY 7 DAYS after 2pm only $15

EXCITEMENT plus at the Cutters Home Game. With the Hinterland Heritage Shield against the Mary Valley Stags and the Arlo Memorial Shield, there was a lot of emotion within the community and players. Each year The Cutters and The Stags come together and play for the Hinterland Heritage Shield and wow, what a game. At half time, the Cutters were leading 6-4, but the mighty Stags got another try in leaving the score 10-6. The Cutters came in with only 6 minutes to go to even the score up to 10-10, ending in a draw. It was a hard and fast game and the adrenalin rush for the crowd was unbelievable. The Cutters had possession of the Hinterland Heritage Shield from the previous year and with it being a draw, the Shield remains with the Cutters. We look forward to the Challenge next year. Also, the game was dedicated to Arlo Crawford Window. Arlo, son of Dylan Crawford Window and Erin Troman, on a very sad day, was born an angel from birth. In memory of this beautiful baby boy, the Cutters will play a game every year for the “Arlo Memorial Shield”. This Inaugural shield will be hung in the clubhouse and every year around this time, it will be presented to the Man of the Match, to honour and celebrate Arlo’s memory. This year, the Man of the Match, went to Dylan Crawford Window. Dylan played, as I am sure everyone could imagine, hard and with all his effort for his precious little boy. It is with pride that his name will be the first players name on the Shield. Congratulations Dylan.
