AVID walkers are gearing up for the 2016 Great Noosa Trail Walk being held on 1,2, and 3 October. Every year when the booking window opens, registrations immediately started flowing in. The event is limited to 150 walkers to maintain a friendly, community atmosphere so if you want to be part of one of the Sunshine Coast’s most amazing hiking events, you will need to be quick or you will miss out. There have been a few changes made since the previous walk which will make the experience that much better for the walkers. Such care is taken when organising this event to ensure that everyone enjoys the full majesty of the Noosa Hinterland. This year will be no exception when it comes to the quality of activities, walkers will be hard pressed to find an event of the same worth. The Great Noosa Trail Walk is a three day journey that will showcase the natural and cultural landscape of the Noosa hinterland. The trail traverses the country towns of Cooroy, Kin Kin, Cooran and Pomona via a series of

dedicated walking trails through farmlands, natural forests and spectacular lookouts of the hinterland through to the ocean. Trail guides will be on the route providing assistance and information about the history and scenery. While the hiking is fantastic, the event offers even more with a great entertainment program and social activities. Camping is included in the camping grounds at Kin Kin and Cooran as part of the booking fee or alternatively accommodation is available at numerous guest houses (payable direct to accommodation provider). A shuttle bus transfers all camping gear, as well as being available to collect tired walkers if they feel they can’t make the full day’s trek. Don’t miss your chance to be part of this year’s Great Noosa Trail Walk. The fee to undertake the walk is $180 under early bird bookings. At 30th June 2016, the price goes up to $210 but that is if there are any spots left by then as bookings have been strong already. For detailed itinerary, bookings and more information visit www.great noosatrailwalk.com.au

Interact Club sleep rough for the homeless THE Noosa District State High School Interact Club, with the support of the Cooroy Rotary Club, hosted a school sleepover with a difference to raise money and awareness for Australia’s homeless. 47 NDSHS students and 4 teachers slept on pieces of cardboard with spartan coverings to experience a night like a homeless person on the mild May evening. The event was organised by NDSHS Interact President Matthew Craigie, who hoped that the NDSHS students sleeping rough on pieces of cardboard on the cold, concrete floor of the H Block precinct would be able to experience and appreciate firsthand what the 105, 237 homeless Australians undergo each night. The funds raised through students obtaining sponsorship for participating in the event will be used to purchase Street Swags (waterproof bedding and shelter) for the homeless.

Cooroy Fusion Festival had it all Everywhere you turned last Saturday at Cooroy Fusion Festival there was fun to be had! They had it all - live music, street performers, fantastic food, kids activities, talented artists, literary events, market stalls, woodworking, motorbikes, animals, displays by community groups and businesses, orchids and plants, body painting, smiles everywhere and perfect sunny weather! The Cooroy Rag is proud to be a sponsor of the Festival. Cooroy Fusion celebrates what is great about the Noosa Hinterland and that was definitely on display on Saturday. “It was a wonderful day with a record turnout estimated to be over 15,000 people. We lived up to our promise of being bigger and better this year and the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive from everyone. We couldn’t have done it without our amazing crew of volunteers and our generous partners and sponsors,” said Chris Bell, chairperson of the Cooroy Fusion Committee. Cooroy Fusion is one of those special events that just bubbles with community spirit. It showcases what a wonderful part of the world we live in. Spread across Cooroy it included a huge range of activities at the Cooroy Mill Site, Cooroy Camphor Laurel Group, Cooroora Woodworkers, Cooroy Library, Butter Factory Arts Centre and CWA Hall. The Bendigo Bank Entertainment Tent was packed full of top shelf entertainment and the Cooroy RSL Pickled Possum bar was a great spot to catch the likes of Hi Boys, Ayla, Cherry Ripes, the Greenwood Grove Geckoes Wildlife Experience and so much more! The Supa IGA Cooroy Tastes of the Hinterland was a big hit with attendees delighting in samples from local producers.

Even the rides were above and beyond the norm with an inflatable obstacle challenge and mini-jeeps being two new additions to the festival and big hits with kids. Cooroy Fusion Festival is run by the Cooroy Future Group Inc and funded by festival partners Noosa Council and Cooroy Community Bank Branch of Bendigo Bank and sponsors Greenwood Grove, Cooroy Chamber of Commerce, Cooroy Supa IGA, Club Cooroy RSL, Firefly Solutions, Noosa Today, Cooroy Family Practice, Wimmers Soft Drinks, Cooroy Rag, Cartwright Lawyers, Raine & Horne, Suttons Cleaning Services, Fiona Winter Realty, Palmlake Works Pty Ltd, John Madill Toyota, Hinterland Dental Group, Cooroy RACQ Service Centre, Mower & ATV Solutions, Gelignite Jacks, McDermott Aviation, Heel Sit Stay, Max Watterson Associates, Wythes Real Estate, Hinternoosa, QMP, Cooroy Hotel, myMemories on DVD and Sunsign Coast. Pop to the library to have your say COUNCIL is trialling information ‘pop-ups’ at local libraries and the mobile library to give residents another way to comment on major Council projects in addition to its Your Say Noosa website and via email and mail. “Pop-ups provide information about Council projects and, when the pop-ups are manned, residents can have questions answered by Council officers and Councillors,” says Council’s Community Engagement Manager Debra Bambrook. Pop-ups for Council’s

Draft Koala Conservation Plan, which is already open, and the Draft Noosa Transport Plan, which opened yesterday, are likely to be busy. “One of the University of the Sunshine Coast’s koala tracking dogs will make special guest appearances at all the Noosaville and Cooroy library pop-ups,” said Council’s Principal Environment Officer, Peter Milne. Pop-ups are a useful way to reach residents who aren’t online or just prefer to have a chat. Residents can view draft plans, talk to Council of-

ficers and Councillors and provide input in a variety of ways, including: • Filling out a feedback form; • Using a library computer to comment via Council’s Your Say Noosa website; • Typing directly into Your Say Noosa using their own tablet or mobile phone; • Talking to a Council officer when the pop-up is manned. The Draft Koala Conservation Plan Pop-ups are open at all libraries from now until June 10 with Council officers, koala

tracking dog and Councillors (when available) on hand at Cooroy Library on Thursday June 2 , 2pm - 4pm. The Draft Noosa Transport Plan Pop-Ups are open at all libraries from May 25. Council officers and Councillors (when available) will be at the pop-ups on Tuesday May 31 at Cooroy Library, on Wednesday June 1 at Noosaville Library between 10am and 12 noon and at the Noosa Leisure Centre on Saturday June 4 between 8am and 12 noon. Remember that all Coun-

cil projects that are open for comment and input can be found at Council’s Your Say Noosa website – yoursay.noosa.qld.gov.au For more information contact the community engagement team at Council on (07) 5329 6500 or visit yoursay.noosa.qld.gov.au. USC’s koala tracking dog will be at Council’s Draft Koala Conservation Plan Library Pop-ups and Baxter/Maya will be keen to be invited to residents’ properties to sniff out koalas.

Winning artists share in $11,000 cash prize LOCAL artist Rosie Lloyd-Giblett of Cooroy has also been named a winner in the Noosa Regional Gallery’s 2016 Noosa Art Award, taking home $1000 in prize money for ‘Sediment’ – her winning entry in the inaugural Lyn McCrea Memorial Drawing Prize. Judges – arts writer Louise Martin-Chew and Australian contemporary artist Ian Smith – pored over 64 Noosa Art Award finalists and more than 20 Drawing Prize finalists to reach their verdict. Both judges said they were impressed by the standard of work, its diversity and the reach of the competition, which drew entries from as far away as Tasmania and Western Australia. Louise Martin-Chew says: “The Noosa Art Award has been well promoted and the prize pool has the ability to command artists who work in the national realm. That is a significant coup for Noosa! Lyn McCrea Memorial Drawing Prize judge, Ian Smith, commented on the style and diversity of the finalists’ artworks. He said that in making his decision

he assessed each work on its merits in their chosen manner and looked at the intention within the work rather than just the stylistic appearance. Rosie Lloyd-Giblett said: “I feel privileged to have known Lyn as an artist and a valued community member.” John McCrea, founder of the Lyn McCrea Memorial

Where’s the rolled up Rag?

Election Blues Why do we have to tolerate eight weeks of non-stop politics, Subjected to hours and excruciating hours of the usual party tricks. Expensive advertising, plus other costs, the mind begins to boggle, And what you’ll see, unfortunately, is the usual political twaddle. Nobody seems to be worrying about the state of the nation, And trying to end the confusion, and get some stabilisation. This campaign is going to be full of “I said and he said”, Differences don’t matter, they all seem easily led. Where are all the thinkers, the wise, who know what government means, Who know what the people want, who don’t worship the polling machines. Who are sick and tired of the present childish antics, And are not impressed by the useless and fruitless theatrics. So switch off the TV, and get lots of sleep, Don’t’ attempt to follow it, cancel the paper, and try not to weep. How you can tell it’s going to be a lousy day – you walk to work and find your dress is tucked into the back of your panty-hose

Community connection is what matters most Geoff Edwards, Branch Manager, Bendigo Community Bank, Cooroy Connecting. We all know what that feels like when we get it right - in life and in business. It’s a wonderful feeling and one we generally remember for a long time. It’s long been a key in successful advertising. As customers we make all sorts of choices as a result of our connection to a brand - about which car, home, food or big screen TV to buy. But what about the proof behind the statement or the claim? What about when a bank says it has a connection with its community? Does it make you suspicious or feel there must be a catch? Well, the Cooroy Community Bank branch of Bendigo Bank is locally owned by our shareholders. It has now returned more than $570,000 to local schools, clubs and organisations in the past few years. How local? To use one example, we have supported Cooroy Fusion for a few years now. Then there’s Cooroy State School. Our commitment to the school includes ongoing sponsorship of the school’s Robotics program, a partnership with Rotary Club of Cooroy and Cooroy State School in the annual East Timor Shoe Box collection and more. Why? Because we wouldn’t be here without their support…your support. Through our customers’ banking we generate profits that go into supporting recipients just like Cooroy State

School. It’s why our team loves coming to work each day and why we’re growing with our community. Our Cooroy Community Bank branch is giving our community a real say in its own future. We believe successful customers and successful communities create a successful bank - in that order. As we work to provide banking products and services for our customers, we consider the bigger picture. So, if you’re interested in banking where the customer is connected to the bank, give us a try. We have a full range of products just like any full service bank and you’ll become more aware of work we do where it matters most. Our team will be more than happy to share more of our story with you and deliver the right advice and the products you need. Please feel free to drop into the branch or call me on 5447 7131. You can also email me at geoff.edwards@bendigoadelaide.com.au.

news Am I too young for a self-managed super fund (SMSF)?

COOROY RAG

Chad Monroe Certified Financial Planner® of Provision Wealth Management* SOME of my friends in their 30s have set up an SMSF. I don’t have a large super balance but want control. Is it worth it? If you’re under 55 and thinking about setting up a self-managed super fund (SMSF) you’re not alone. SMSFs are being established by younger Australians in a shift in the age of those wanting control over their super. In March 2014, younger people represented 75% of new SMSF members. Before deciding if an SMSF is right for you, consider some of the common questions our clients are raising with us. How much do I need? There are varying opinions about how much money you need to start an SMSF. Consider how much you’ll have if your super is combined with other potential fund members. And keep in mind that if your combined balance is less than $200,000 the ATO suggests an SMSF may not be the most costeffective option - when compared to fees in retail,

industry and corporate funds, SMSFs may cost more. What age do I need to be? By law you must be 18 to be a trustee of an SMSF although people under 18 can be SMSF members but conditions apply - for example a parent of a younger member may need to act as their trustee. Generally, all members must be trustees of the fund. They have legal obligations and are responsible for the management and decisions of the fund If you’re under 55 you or your spouse may be actively contributing to super - and ideally you’ll have built up considerable super assets already. If you’ve also gathered investment knowledge and experience along the way, they’ll come in handy if you decide to manage your own fund. What are the risks? Generally the risks come with the increased responsibilities you’d have as an SMSF trustee. Running an SMSF means you - along with other trustees - will be re-

sponsible for all of the decisions regarding the investments and activities of the fund. If you’re pretty savvy when it comes to investing you may like the idea of selecting and managing investments from asset classes across the world. But the risk is your fund’s investment performance will ultimately rest with you and your fellow-trustees. One of the most important duties of an SMSF trustee is to keep abreast of strict superannuation laws and understand how they’d be applied to you and your fund. Penalties for breaches were introduced on 1 July 2014 and can be applied to trustees (corporate or individual) but can’t be paid with SMSF monies. That means you could be personally liable for a penalty if your fund is found to be in breach. What are the opportunities? While there can be a lot of work involved in running an SMSF you have more opportunity in several areas.

You can pool your superannuation with that of up to four family members (including yourself). Not only does that provide the opportunity for costs savings - the bigger the fund balance the greater the potential for savings - but you also have full transparency of all the costs and returns for your super. That can help you manage your tax effectively too; another benefit of an SMSF. An SMSF gives you ultimate investment flexibility too. So not only can the fund invest in direct property - residential and commercial—but it can borrow to invest. If you are a business owner your SMSF has the potential to buy premises that your business can lease back. Special rules apply so if this is an opportunity you’d like to explore, make sure you seek advice first. SMSFs also provide flexibility in retirement. When it comes to accessing your money down the track and how you’ll hand down your assets when you die you have several options. It’s another area you’ll

need expert advice in so speak with a financial adviser. What next? Before setting up an SMSF look into all your options. There are ways to manage the administration without using up all your spare time. You’ll need to consider your strengths and weaknesses and those of each trustee too - we can help you do this so contact us today on 5447 7740 to learn more about what might be suitable for you. *Chad Monroe of Provision Wealth Management Pty Ltd ABN 52 149 014 004 Authorised representatives and credit representatives of AMP Financial Planning Pty Limited AFS Licence No. 232706 What you need to know: Any advice in this editorial is of a general nature only and does not take into account the objectives, financial situation or needs of any particular person. Locals make an Impact on World stage WHAT a busy start to the year for the Impact Boxing Academy. We have had Sam Cameron-Hands & Bailey Seabourne compete in Russia in March as part of an Australian team lead by head coach Mark Evans. We have had Brock Shelley, Taylah Robertson & Luke Martin represent in a Queensland team that competed in an International event against Ireland & NZ in Cairns, again under the watchful eye of Qld head coach Mark Evans. We have also competed at the Qld State selection trials where we had 8 members from Impact Boxing win their Qld State title & earn their spot on the Qld team to compete at the Australian titles held on the Gold Coast last week. Impact boxing had the strongest contingent of boxers from any one single club in the whole State on the Queensland team. What a fantastic effort for the club & for Cooroy. At the Australian Titles our boxers won 5 Gold medals & 3 Silver medals !! Our 3 girls all won gold, Taylah Robertson, Chloe Halley & Misty Halley. Bailey Seabourne & Coen Allman also won gold for the boys.. Sam & Ben CameronHands were extremely un-

Team Impact lucky in losing their finals bout via split points decision to win silver & Cameron Little won silver as well. “I am extremely proud of these kids & what they are achieving. To have all 8 of them win their Qld State ti-

tle & earn their spot on the Qld team was a massive achievement in its self, but to then go on to the Australian titles & have all 8 win a medal is true testament to how hard these kids train. Both Sam & Ben Cameron-Hands were

very unlucky not to get the winning decision in their bouts,” said Evans. “We, along with most others where shocked to hear the decision when it was announced as we thought we had done enough to win in both bouts. As they say

‘Thats boxing’.” These Australian titles were also a selection event for the World Youth Boxing championships to be held in St Petersburg Russia in October. Both Sam & Bailey represented Australia on the junior team last year so we will now wait to hear from the selectors as to wether they have been chosen to represent on the Australian youth team. We are quietly confident of selection,” coach Mark Evans said.. In other news for the club, we have Brock Shelley & Taylah Robertson that have been selected to represent Queensland in Poland. Brock & Taylah will compete in three tournaments across Poland in the 12 days that they are there. Both boxers are feeling great & are ready to go. “Who would of thought that a small gym from Cooroy would one day be taking on the World,” coach Mark Evans said. Impact Boxing are currently seeking sponsors to help these kids chase their dreams. As you can imagine these International trips have hit the club financially & as a result we really need some sponsors. Please contact Mark for details on sponsorship packages..

Sharon said: “We all agree nothing can beat a portion of steaming fresh white fish fried in hot, crispy batter, served with a pile of lip-smacking chips – the only debate is whether you top it with

salt, vinegar, sauce, or mushy peas!” “So celebrate British fish and chips and join in with National Fish & Chip Day on Friday, June 3rd by coming down to Cooroy Fish’n’Chips and enjoying a good old-fashioned Friday night fish supper.. we’ll even include a pickle.. haha.” “I look forward to serving you!” Phone orders welcome 5472 0084.

The place to buy your pie

Joh - COOROY GOURMET PIES

Lester BONNELL BROTHERS

In 2014 Joh took over Cooroy Gourmet Pies and since then has been busily supplying pies and rolls to school tuckshops, cafes and other outlets around the area. If you venture down Jarrah Street you’ll find that you can buy hot or frozen pies straight from the kitchen! Front of shop is open to the public from 7am – 1pm Monday to Thursday with a pie warmer full of the original-style square pies, the flavours varying from day to day. The full range is available in frozen pies and rolls including the very popular family size. Joh has a background of many years in fresh produce and has an eye for quality. Having spent some time working in the local area he understands the importance of keeping it local, so you might catch him in town picking up fresh produce or meat for the pies and rolls he bakes! A highlight for Joh is playing with new pie flavours and he often creates one-off batches which are inspired by cooking creations at home. Thai red curry duck with pineapple and cherry tomatoes was the most recent offering, with plans now set for a warming beef goulash to welcome in the colder weather! Look out for a new outlet in the heart of Cooroy in the very near future …

Steve, Allan and Shanna QUEENSLAND MEDIA PRINT QUEENSLAND Media Print has just celebrated 24 years of service to Cooroy and surrounding districts and still print for most of their original customers. Now in it’s 25th year, QMP offers more products and services than ever. Everything from business cards to docket books, and brochures to bumper stickers along with signs, banners and labels are all available from the Jarrah Street factory. First

time authors are also getting their books into print to share with the world. In a world obsessed with full colour printing, it is good to remember that good quality, attention getting artwork is more important than colour. Brochures and flyers in just one or two colours are extremely cost effective if applied to good artwork. QMP not only prints in any number of colours from 1 to full colour, but QMP also can supply that eye catching art work that sells! QMP are specialists in Digital printing. Digital printing is ideal for a fast turnaround on any job (often same day) as well as providing cost effective options for smaller runs in full colour. In reflecting on the past 24 years, owner Allan Mulcahy says “The people of Cooroy and surrounding townships have been good to us in showing their continued support”. QMP sees the importance of supporting and promoting the local community as a way of ‘giving back’ and helping the community to grow and develop. They are huge supporters of the recent Fusion Festival and Christmas in Cooroy amongst others. In an ever changing industry, QMP has learnt to diversify. The customer is the ultimate winner because with diversity, there comes a greater range of products all available locally.

Chiropractors – helping you ‘back your inner athlete’ SPINAL Health Week 2016 runs from 23 to 29 May and this year the chiropractors at Life Enhancing Chiropractic are encouraging you to ‘Back Your Inner Athlete’. With the Olympics around the corner, thousands of elite athletes are using health treatments like chiropractic care to perform at their peak. Chiropractors at Life Enhancing Chiropractic would like to remind people that everyone can back their own inner athlete and perform to their peak by reducing pain, improving posture and living a healthy lifestyle. “Every day more and more Australians experience disabling low back pain, neck pain and headaches, limiting their ability to work and engage in an active healthy life,” said chiropractor Dr Adam Roache. “Think about all the hours you spend each

day sitting at work or school, commuting, on your computer or other mobile device and watching television,” Dr Adam said. “Poor posture used during these activities increases pressure on your spine which can cause lower back pain, neck pain, headaches and fatigue.” If you suffer from back pain, neck pain or headaches or if poor postural fitness is impacting on your ability to live life to the fullest, visit a chiropractor at Life Enhancing Chiropractic to help you Back Your Inner Athlete. Chiropractic care is an increasingly common and effective treatment for back pain, neck pain and headaches, eliminating the need for drugs or surgery. “Helping patients make positive changes, with respect to nutrition, exercise and wellness is also fundamental to maintaining normal spinal func-

tion,” added Dr Adam. “Adopting healthy habits today, such as improving postural fitness, can significantly reduce the risk of injury or pain in later years. What’s more, good spinal health can benefit our self-esteem, social relationships and mental health.” CAA Back App: Your Pocket Chiropractor To help Back Your Inner Athlete, the Chiropractors’ Association of Australia (CAA) has developed a CAA Back App - the closest thing to having a chiropractor with you 24/7. The CAA Back App will be released on 23 May, 2016. It can be downloaded free from www.backyourinnerathlete.com.au, Apple App Store or Google Play and is like your pocket chiropractor. As you go about your day, it sends subtle reminders about checking your posture, activity levels, water consumption and movement. Its state of the art ‘augmented reality’ feature animates when hovered over Spinal Health Week postcards, which are free from your local CAA Chiropractor. This shows users the correct pos-

ture they should maintain in everyday situations. “We hope people enjoy using this interactive technology to improve their posture, which in turn can help improve their health,” added Dr Adam. During Spinal Health Week 2016, make an appointment at Life Enhancing Chiropractic for a spinal health check-up and discover what steps you can take to improve your health and wellbeing and Back Your Inner Athlete. You can also visit www.backyour innerathlete.com.au to learn more about chiropractic care and Spinal Health Week 2016 and to download the Back Your Inner Athlete app – CAA Back App. Spinal Health Week 2016 is a national initiative of the Chiropractors’ Association Australia (CAA). For further information on Spinal Health Week and chiropractic care, contact: Life Enhancing Chiropractic, 48 Elm St, Cooroy, 54720808. Dr Adam Roache is a member of the Chiropractors’ Association of Australia.

Preventing those winter sports injuries THE winter sports season is now in full swing, and as physiotherapists, we start to see the injuries coming in the doors on Monday morning. Whilst some injuries are unpreventable, a lot could have been prevented with appropriate preparation and training. Most injuries occur due to a problem with equipment or with preparation. Having the correct equipment is essential for injury prevention: • Ensuring that footwear is correct size and adequate support • Laces are done up correctly to ensure foot support • Specialised equipment is correct size and in good condition • Safety gear is worn as appropriate • Fields are kept in good condition to avoid holes etc. • Wearing supportive braces if there has been a previous injury Apart from equipment, the preparation of the body for sport is necessary to prevent injury – especially as we age. As we age, we need to be “fit to play” not “play to be fit”. Some strategies for preparing and maintaining

the body throughout the season include: • Ensuring cardiovascular fitness is adequate for the task at hand • Preparing the body prior to activity with an appropriate warm up • Staying hydrated throughout the game • Attending to any injuries as soon as possible • Seeking professional help from a physiotherapist following injury- this will improve your recovery time and help to ensure that you prevent re-injury • Perform the rehab exercises prescribed by your therapist to get your body ready for play • Keeping muscles and joints warm during time off or breaks • Stretching after the game to keep muscles flexible and reduce strain on tendons and ligaments. • Seeing your physiotherapist for pre-season screening and program development do improve strength, flexibility, core strength, dynamic stability and balance. A side note on warm up: Many people think of a warm up as just static stretching eg. Holding a particular stretch for a period of time.

SPINAL HEALTH WEEK! MAY 23rd-29th 2016

Recent studies are suggesting that this may not be the best way to prepare the body for activity. It is now thought that dynamic stretching (moving stretches) is more effective at preparing the body for activity and preventing injury. These types of stretches may include activities like leg swings, stepping lunges etc but will be sport specific. For more information on injury prevention or treatment, contact your local Sports Physiotherapist. Craig Steele owns Hinteractive Physio and holds a Masters Degree in Sports Physiotherapy. This spectacular sunset over Cooroy last week was photographed by Lyn Doughty A glorious sunset is the epitome of fleeting beauty. For a few minutes, the sky is a spectacle of color - and then it’s over. Yet the psychological effects of admiring the sunset may persist long after the color has faded. Studies show that appreciating natural

beauty may boost well-being, increase generosity and enhance life satisfaction. The key is to actively engage with the experience. To reap the rewards of that sunset, you need to stop whatever else you’re doing and really notice and appreciate the show in the sky.

gas cook top, breakfast bar, built-in wine rack and huge walk-in pantry. The open plan living area opens through two separate sliding doors to the gardens, with direct access to the undercover tiled entertainment area. The master bedroom is a delight, with a walk-in robe, ensuite bathroom and glass sliding doors to a private terrace. The other bedrooms all feature built-in robes and ceiling fans, while the lovely main bathroom has a separate bath, shower and WC. Step outside and discover the current owners’ favourite feature - the peace and privacy of having a beautiful nature reserve backdrop, instead of a rear neighbour. Gaze out over the green leafy trees and enjoy the sights and sounds of all the visiting birdlife. The property is fully fenced and dogproof, and there’s the bonus of direct access onto the Bush Reserve. An easy walk from the village shops and schools, this property is surrounded by quality homes, and is just 20 minutes from Noosa, 45 from Maroochydore Airport and 1.5 hours from Brisbane. 5 bed 2 bath 1 car More than 5 acres of prime grazing land in town? With mains power and town water? Yep, it’s true - but that’s only the beginning! There are so many reasons why you should buy this gorgeous home in soughtafter Cooran - starting with those amazing views of Mt Cooran and the Tableland Ranges. Available from practically every room, and the spacious deck, imagine waking up to that every morning. It is very rare indeed to find grazing land of this quality and size in town. Even rarer when it includes a 5-bedroom, 2-bathroom Oakvale home, that’s less than a year old! Walking distance from the village shops, sports oval and school, the back boundary of this property is 100m from the main street. But it sits peacefully hidden away at the end of a private cul-de-sac on 2.2ha/ 5.4 acres of gently undulating land, with 2 fenced horse paddocks. The layout of the home is just perfect for a family, with two separate living areas. There’s a designated children’s wing with a separate media room / children’s lounge, opening to that lovely verandah. The main living area is open plan and spacious, opening to the front verandah, and featuring wood-look vinyl flooring,

which comes with a 10-year commercial warranty. The kitchen here is stunning in shades of black, white and grey, with a handy breakfast bar and views out over the property. The master bedroom naturally has a walk-in robe and ensuite, plus direct access to the verandah. The other 4 bedrooms have built-in robes, and they all have ceiling fans. Two overlook the paddocks, and two open to the verandah. Both bathrooms are so on-trend with their black and white theme, the main including a double vanity, bath and separate toilet. There’s plenty of parking under the houses, but there’s an added bonus, too. Plans have already been submitted to Council for a 3-bay shed. All of that included - and there’s still more! This property also gives easy access to the spectacular Noosa Tracks and Trails network, for riding, walking or whatever else you enjoy doing. Seriously, this is such a winner. All the hard work has been done so just move in, add your touch and start enjoying the good life! Offers Over $555,000. This 12 acre level block would be ideal for horses and livestock, and the home is privately situated approx. 600m from the road. Access the lake and enjoy views right from your kitchen. The same, but different! ANDREW established his workshop in Factory Street, Pomona in mid 2002 aiming to provide a complete service to local residents, as well as those from further afield. Offering everything from standard interval servicing of both older vehicles and vehicles still under new car warranty - through to full engine rebuilds and everything in between, Andrew’s A Grade Mechanical is truly a one stop shop for all your vehicle requirements. The workshop has also been a long term provider of tyres to their customer base, sourcing various brands while remaining as competitive as possible. Having dealt with Bridgestone Tyres predominantly for almost a decade, the decision was recently made to ‘get on board’ and become an authorised Bridgestone Service Centre. This move allows them to offer all the Bridgestone specials as they become available such as the current deal of buy any 3 Firestone tyres (SUV, Passenger, Light Van) and receive the fourth tyre FREE! (Valid until the end

of June 2016). Tyre servicing, including rotation and balancing, wheel alignments and puncture repairs are all available on site. This association with Bridgestone also allows the workshop to cater to Fleet and a variety of lease vehicles including Emergency vehicles. With a crew of five fully qualified mechanics in the workshop they are also able to diagnose and repair the irritating problems that arise with things like windows that won’t wind, bonnet and

boot catches, gas struts etc., - all the little things that you may have put up with for too long! Andrew’s A Grade Mechanical is also a certified Inspection Station, able to carry out Safety Inspections on cars, trailers, caravans, horse floats, and trucks up to an RGVM of 16 tonne. If you need a Modification Plate or a trailer measured – no problem there either. Would you like to run your vehicle on gas? The workshop can help you out there too.

So to their loyal customers – Andrew’s A Grade is the SAME, but DIFFERENT. The façade now reflects their upgrade to an authorised Bridgestone Service Centre and all the benefits that entails, but they remain a workshop most interested in providing you with the personalised service that Andrew has always aspired to. For all your vehicle requirements contact Andrew’s A Grade Mechanical at 15 Factory Street Pomona on 5485 0444.

SUNSHINE coast artist Pam Miller, will open her latest solo exhibition ‘Recharged”at the Pomona RailwayStation Gallery on Saturday May 28th at 2pm. Pam retired last year after 40 years of teaching art at tertiary education in NSW and privately here in Queensland. She has now had a year to concentrate on her own art and has felt ‘ recharged’ in painting, drawing and life. The exhibition “Recharged”shows a new direction in her work, with bold colours and strong structure in the paintings. This year she has concentrated on the cold wax method using oil paints and wax on panel board. “ It is an exciting medium and allows you to be very abstract in your work with layers and layers of paint.” Pam said. And as abstraction is one of her favourite subjects, this method has allowed Pam to explore abstraction using a different medium. “I painted mainly in oils in NSW and loved them, but found up here in Noosa, they didn’t dry

quickly enough. So I changed to acrylics. Loved them too. This medium – the cold wax is probably the best of both worlds. It dries quite quickly and gives you that luscious oil painting effect. I revert back to acrylics when I want to paint a more specific subject matter.” Pam trained originally at the National Art School, Sydney. She also has gained a Masters in Visual Arts and Design and a Masters of Education. Her work is held in national and international collections. The exhibition will run for 4 weeks from the 28th May until the 29th June. 10 Station Street, Pomona more info: www.pomonartgallery.com

Cutters Corner Brothers join forces MANY moons ago, 27 years to be precise, a group of like-minded people got together and decided that the town of Pomona and Cooran needed a Rugby League Team…..and then “The Cutters” were born in 1989. Then along came some incredible little children whom became the Cutters little mascots. Daniel Brown, Dylan Crawford Window and Lateesha Ottesen. Today we have the privilege of seeing Dylan play for the Cutters but not alone. Joining us recently is his little brother Darcey. Together, these boys are proving to be players that are a major asset to the club, along with our other amazing players. In our previous game against Mary Valley, Dylan was awarded man of the match and on the following week against Kilcoy, Darcy was given the same award. We are so happy that the boys have joined our club and giving it their all. We look forward to seeing them play many more games for the club. Please make sure you like our page www.Facebook.com/CuttersCountryKitchen or our website www.pccutters.coma.u for updates on our games - subject to change.
