LESS than one week remains to register your dog for free with Noosa Council. May is “Dog Amnesty Month” and until the end of the month, dog registration is free.

Noosa Shire dog owners can register their pets for free online at noosa.qld. gov.au or at the Council’s Customer Service Centre in Tewantin.

The registration is renewed annually. It is a State Government requirement that all dogs over the age of three months must be registered with their local council.

There are 10,522 dogs registered in Noosa.

Council said that registering pets helped them to identify lost dogs and reunite them quickly with their owners.

It also gives Council important information to ensure services such as waste bags, litter bins and off-leash areas are provided where needed.

Council assesses heritage significance of old well

EVER since the Cooroy Rag, with the help of three local stalwarts, uncovered the old Cooroy Butter Factory's well in the heart of Cooroy, Noosa Council has been assessing its heritage significance.

Council Communications Manager Ken Furdek said that the work by the Heritage Unit to assess a site could be timeconsuming.

“Assessing the heritage significance of sites that are nominated by the community as being of potential interest, is a core element of work by Council's Heritage Unit.

“It can be time-consuming to undertake the required research and assessment, as it often involves gaining input or advice from expert external consultants as well as research at other sites such as State Archives or the Lands Department.”

Since lifting the lid on the tank in Apex Park to confirm that it contains not waste, but clean water that once supplied the old Butter Factory, the well has been the talk of the town, with many discussions about what should be done with it.

Many would like to see the well water put to good use, such as creating a tourist attraction or establishing a water station where people can fill their water bottles with the “liquid gold”.

Low-cost cab link trial for Boreen Point

DID you know Noosa Council operates a Flexilink trial service between Boreen Point and Tewantin?

This service is designed to provide transport to people with limited transport options.

The service is scheduled to connect with existing public transport services for onward journeys. It operates on a designated route on a pre-booked basis.

A vehicle will not be sent if there are no bookings.

Provided a booking is made, the service runs three return trips per day, Monday to Saturday at a cost of $2 per single trip for adults and $1 per single trip for children or concession cardholders. Bookings are essential.
