Bendigo Bank renovates and recommits As Cooroy prepares for the closure of the Commonwealth Bank on November 29, locals continue to look at other banking options available to them. What’s clear is the Bendigo Community Bank network is planning on growing and strengthening its relationship with communities across the region. Sunshine Coast Community Financial Services Limited (SCCFSL) operate the Cooroy, Marcoola, Tewantin Noosa and Pomona Community Bank branches of Bendigo Bank, and Chairman of the SCCFSL Board, Rick Cooper remains committed to making Bendigo Bank the local bank of choice. “We have a lot to celebrate. As other banks in the region close their doors, more of ours continue to open and we’re expanding our investment in Noosa,” Mr. Cooper said. Since its establishment 21 years ago, the Community Bank model has returned more than $229 million to Australian communities just like Cooroy. “In 2002, our Cooroy Community Bank branch opened after our community said it wanted its own bank. Locals funded it and as thousands of our local customers and shareholders know, that same branch is now part of a success story

that is part of a bigger, national success story that is changing the banking landscape,” he added. “It’s a wonderful story and we’re only just getting started. As the fifth largest retail banking network in the country, we exist to give back to the customers and community that support us. Our board and staff are committed to continuing the work that has seen our Noosa branches combine to give back more than $1.1 million to community groups, clubs and schools. Our Cooroy branch is about to add a new chapter to this story,” Mr. Cooper shared. Bendigo Bank has ten branches on the coast, three in Noosa alone. Unlike other banks, the Community Bank model is based on a ‘profit-withpurpose’ philosophy, which means profits are returned directly to the local community that helps generate them. Now, 324 Community Bank branches around Australia deliver a full range of banking services locally, but also generate profits that enable significant community investment and strengthening. Plans have been in place for months to renovate the Cooroy Community Bank branch from December 2, to transform the branch

into new and vibrant space. The branch will re-open for business on Tuesday, December 10 at 9.00am. Cooroy and Pomona Branch Manager, Simone Flavelle said: “Apart from the obvious visible improvements to the Cooroy branch, our customers will enjoy new hi-tech conveniences.” “Like our Tewantin Noosa Community Bank branch, the first thing everyone will notice will be the size of our new branch. It’s basically a going the be a community hub with a bank in the middle of it,” she added. “We’re all really excited for our customers. Apart from being a full-service bank with industry leading customer service, our new Cooroy branch will be a custom built, customerfocussed branch. Our customers can talk one-onone with specialist members of the branch team in a comfortable sit-down environment,” Simone added. During the renovation period, the Pomona Community Bank branch will be open from 9.00am 5.00pm, Monday, December 2 to Monday, December 9 inclusive at 3 Station Street, Pomona. The ATM at the Cooroy branch will remain operational with the Cooroy team in a pop-up

If you’ve been into Cooroy recently you would have noticed that town is looking delightfully festive. That’s thanks to the awesome volunteer decorators co-ordinated by Cooroy Chamber of Commerce. Before you get grinchy and say it is too early for Christmas decorations, remember these are volunteers and these same group of people also volunteer for Christmas in Cooroy on 6 & 7 December. So we decorate town in mid-November to give them a few weekends between efforts and to make sure they have some time up their sleeves to reschedule in case the weather turns nasty. The street decorations are sponsored by Cooroy IGA, Cooroy RSL, Cooroy Community Bank Branch of Bendigo Bank, Hinternoosa Real Estate, Live Life Pharmacy, Blue Brown Bag and Sunshine Mitre 10. The clock tower at the roundabout is decorated and sponsored by

0447 477 302

Cooroy Pest Control. The amazing centre point of the decorations is our magnificent Studio Steel Christmas Tree that is official lit up on the night of Friday 6 December. The tree decorations are installed and sponsored by Studio Steel with sponsorship support from The Shed Company Cooroy, Palm Lake Resort Cooroy-Noosa, Sunny Pool & Spa and Aaction Traffic. What a fantastic thing to do for our community! It also wouldn’t all happen without the magical marketing and event management skills of the team at Firefly Solutions who are like Cooroy’s very own Christmas elves. Christmas in Cooroy is on Friday 6th & Saturday 7th December and is a totally free event organised by Cooroy Chamber of Commerce with the support of the Rotary Club of Cooroy and funding from fantastic local business sponsors.

Simone Flavelle, Senior Branch Manager, Cooroy & Pomona Community Bank Feeling valued is more important than anything. It’s great when it happens at work, at home and in our community. It’s a great time of change in our Cooroy community at the moment. As one bank decides to pack up and move on, ours has made the decision to renovate and continue to invest in the hinterland. It sounds like a nice gesture, but what does this really mean for our customers and what does it mean when we say we have a connection with our community? Does it make you suspicious and do you feel there’s a catch? The Cooroy and Pomona Community Bank branches of Bendigo Bank is locally owned by our shareholders. It has now returned more than $700,000 to local schools, clubs and organisations in the past few years. How local? To use one example, we have supported Christmas in Cooroy for the past 11 years. Then there’s Cooroy State School. Our commitment there has included laptops and the robotics programs over the same time period. On top of that has been our supporting role in Cooroy Fusion and perhaps most importantly, helping save Cooroy Memorial Hall. At Pomona State School, similar projects like Mini-lit programs, the breakfast club program, new books for the library and Pomona in the Park… and we’re only just getting started. Why? Because we wouldn’t be here without their support - your support. Through our customers’ banking we generate profits that go directly to supporting recipients just like Cooroy and Pomona State Schools, and you can add Noosa District State High School and Cooran State School to that list. It’s why our team loves coming to work each day and why we’re growing with our community. Our Cooroy and Pomona Community Bank branches give our communities a real say in their

future. We believe successful customers and successful communities create a successful bank - in that order. As we work to provide banking products and services for our customers, we consider the bigger picture. So, as we prepare to renovate our Cooroy branch to serve our community better, have a look at banking where you (the customer) is connected to your bank and give us a try. As a full-service bank, we have a full range of product and you’ll become more aware of work we do where it matters most. Our team will be more than happy to share more of our story with you and deliver the right advice and the products you need. Please feel free to drop into the branches or call me on 5447 7131 (Cooroy) or 5485 1786 (Pomona). You can also email me at simone.flavelle@bendigoadelaide.com.au.

Police have arrested and dealt with two 14 year old juveniles in regards the recent crime spree on cars and homes in the Cooroy area. Police wish to remind people to lock and secure homes and cars and do not leave valuables in easily accessible areas as this behaviour may be ongoing. Police are also appealing for assistance from members of the public who may have witnessed or come across a traffic crash which occurred at about 8am last Saturday the 2nd of November, 2019. The start of this bizarre incident occurred when a stolen car from Gympie was crashed in Pomona and the offender fled the scene and made his way to Cooroy where he has allegedly stolen a Red Ford Ranger Dual Cab Utility from the Cooroy RV stopover in Mary River Road and driven a short distance out along Black Mountain Road dropping expensive tools and solar panels as it was driven off at speed. The vehicle then crashed, and an unsuspecting community member has given the driver a lift back into Cooroy not knowing that the vehicle had just been stolen. When dropped back into Cooroy the same male then proceeded to attempt to steal another car from a local business on Mary River Rd however his suspicious behaviour was reported to police who attended within minutes and

arrested the male for numerous serious criminal offences including 2 x Unlawful Use of Motor vehicle offences, 2 x Enter with intent, 1 x Armed Robbery offence and resisting a police officer. A 35 year old Tewantin man has been arrested and charged and remanded in custody. Police wish to speak with the person who acted as the good Samaritan and gave the male from the crash on Black Mountain Rd a lift back into Cooroy. This person is not in any trouble however police are still in the process of gathering evidence to support the charges against this offender so anyone who has further information please contact the Cooroy Police on 54425030.

Mayor responds to controlled burns criticism The Noosa Mayor has responded to criticism that a lack of controlled burns, contributed to the latest fires. Residents who have been forced to evacuate their homes have been vocal on social media, calling on Noosa Council to amp up backburning. Mayor Tony Wellington said Council can only control their own bushland areas, not land under the control of Queensland Parks and Wildlife. “Noosa Council carries out controlled burns on land under its control, we also work with Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service on burns in their

area, but the other really important point, when you have really severe fire conditions no amount of controlled burning is going to prevent them from occurring” he said. He added that Council does do controlled burns in areas under its control. The Mayor also said backburning won’t stop a blaze in extreme fire conditions, “A controlled burn is known as a ‘cool burn’ and it mostly burns the undergrowth and sometimes middle storey, but under a serious fire condition, obviously the fire reaches the tops of the trees as well, and that’s what we had”.

Protecting Your Small Business Owning and operating a small business is hard work. The last thing you need is to lose it all because of poor insurance choices. First you need to work out what needs to be covered. There are the obvious things such as plant and equipment, the less obvious things such as public liability, professional indemnity, and finally protecting the financial performance and position of the business on the sudden loss of a key person. Policies should cover a wide range of eventualities and each business should have a policy package specifically geared to its needs. People are the most important assets, and the success of the business may hinge on key personnel. Business expense insurance can cover certain fixed business expenses, and key-person insurance can protect the financial performance in the event of a key person or business owner dies, is permanently disabled or suffers a traumatic event. Insufficient coverage Owners risk losing control of their companies, serious financial losses, and complex partnership problems by being uninsured, or underinsuring against something going wrong. Having the wrong kind of insurance is equally

risky and ultimately a waste of money, which is why it’s necessary to seek advice on the right insurance for your business. It’s also important to regularly review and update your insurance, especially when your business grows or changes. Your accountant should assess all taxation matters including the tax deductibility of premiums together with any potential CGT or GST issues. Working together with your financial adviser to determine what insurances can be put in place is an important consideration when running a business. The Insurance Council of Australia, http:// www.understandinsurance.com.au, and the Australian Taxation Office, http:// www.ato.gov.au, have more information. If you would like more information on a business insurance plan, or other personal financial planning needs, give Tracey a call on 5442 6600 for a free, no obligation, initial meeting. At 11 am on November 11 Cooroy, along with the rest of the nation, paused for Remembrance Day, marking the 101st anniversary of the Armistice that ended the First World War on 11 November 1918. Between 1914 and 1918 a newly federated Australia sent 414,000 of their citizens to face the horrors of modern industrialized war. By 1918, almost 62,000 Australians lay dead among the mud and destruction of the trenches in Europe, the sands of Sinai, Palestine and Syria. A ceremony was held at the Cenotaph in Diamond Street in memory of those who have died or suffered in war and on peacekeeping and humanitarian operations.

Lest We Forget Remembrance Day November 11th - the day when we remember all our servicemen who fought in WW1. The Cooroy-Noosa Genealogy Group has remembered and researched all our local diggers and others who went to war between 1914 and 1918. If you have a family member who took part in WW1 or WW2, or any other conflict and you want to know more of their details, then the Group’s historians can help you. Local antiques dealer Debra Palmen has a routine. Every year she goes on antique buying trips to France and England. Regular as clockwork. And every year Debra and her furry shop manager Calypso the Cat open a three month pop-up shop, from January to March, to sell all the treasures found on the buying trip. But this year it’s different. “I never open a pop-up shop for more than three months”, says Debra. “I used to have a full-time shop, and it was fun but took up too much of my life. So I changed the business plan and now I only operate temporary shops.” But sometimes, when opportunity knocks you have to change your routine. And so it was for Debra. When offered the lovely gallery space at the rear of Old Barn Café in Cooroy, she knew she had to move in. “But that was in July!”, laughs Debra. “And I’ve been here ever since. This was not the plan, but the space is lovely, the café staff are so nice, and it’s turned out to be a whole lot of fun.” Only a few weeks after opening, Debra knew she needed to source new stock or she would quickly

run out. So it was off to France and England for an ‘emergency’ buying trip. “When I told people it was an emergency so I had to go to Paris, I received surprisingly little sympathy”, notes Debra with a smile. “And boy it was worth going. I found beautiful, beautiful things at great prices – there’s about two tonnes on its way to Australia right now”. “I found so many bargains, and I always pass on excellent prices. My bargain is your bargain. So my prices are unbeatable. The new pieces are arriving in the first week of December, and unpacking two tonnes of fabulous new stock is going to be like Christmas!” But in the meantime, Debra is still bringing lovely new items into the shop every day. “Right now I have a range of charming Christmas Tree brooches and other gorgeous French vintage jewellery I’ve just brought back from Paris”, she says. “But I also have a bit of everything, from beautiful and functional antique French copper kitchenware, furniture you won’t find anywhere else, French glass, English ceramics and even a gorgeous wooden Chinese Quan Yin and an enormous

Chinese grain jar, both from the Qing Dynasty.” French & Vintage is located in the rear gallery

space at Old Barn Café, 15 Diamond Street. It’s open every day. Why not come by for a good coffee and

combine it with some exclusive shopping, for things you won’t find anywhere else?

Probus Club of Cooroy Probus Cooroy had Hayley Whiteway as their guest speaker for November. Hayley spoke on her reasons for doing the Kokoda Trail, the equipment needed to complete the trek, the highs and lows which she experienced along the way and the reverence which trekkers gain from the tour. Hayley’s grandfather and uncle were in New Guinea in WW11 and endured many hardships with weather, terrain and torment of carrying out orders which came from Australian authorities. The beauty of New Guinea’s landscape belied the atrocities which Australian and Japanese soldiers encountered. Hayley was able to find the grave of her Uncle and made a wreath of bougainvillea on which to place it. A very enlightening presentation for all present. Hayley is seen receiving a Probus pen from President Judy Cutts in appreciation of her revealing travel to New Guinea.

At the beginning of 2018 emerging photographer Kita Lawrence had an idea to photograph and interview the people of Eumundi through a project she named #TheLocalVibe. The project set out to capture the diverse, vibrant and caring nature of as she puts it ‘this quirky little community’. Three locations were used, all on the main street called Memorial Drive, to capture ‘the vibe’. Kita set up a little DIY studio in her garage, she then moved her set up to a Eumundi cafe ‘The Store’ and lastly to ‘Joe’s Waterhole’ Hotel. In order to capture the authenticity of the town she kept the execution of the project as simple and laid back as possible. By doing so it allowed the project to just evolve on its own and by word of mouth as much as possible. As Kita says “There were a handful of people that I contacted and organised times for the interviews but most of the participants were just going about their normal routine and were just coming into town for work, to order a coffee or down at their local watering hole for a beer.” “What can I say, this project over the past two years has been mind blowing, never could I have anticipated the journey it’s taken me on so far,” said Kita. Her exhibition in Wan’din’in arts space in Eumundi will showcase what she refers to as ‘the collective vibe that flows through the community of Eumundi’ in an intimate display of portraits and people’s heartfelt notions on personal gratitude and connections to the town. This exhibition is designed by Kita to be an inspirational platform that brings together the community through one simple idea, connecting locals with their town, through her art. As part of her #TheLocalVibe Project Kita has also been working on a book called ‘It takes a village to raise a vibe’, due for release at the exhibition opening night. Kita says ‘This book has allowed me to display all of the 90 participants portraits, connections to town and gratitude in a collective manner and in a medium that will allow

Artist Jandamarra Cadd Eumundi’s unique and uplifting vibe to reach the hearts of more people. The book also gave me the opportunity to share the personal journey side of the project in a bit more depth. The book reveals more about why I set out to capture this town and why the essence of Eumundi has been so valuable to me personally and my family since moving here five years ago.’ Kita’s exhibition will be opened by Jandamarra Cadd on Friday 22 November at 5.30pm. All are welcome, there will be nibbles on arrival, cash bar available and live music by Andrea Kirwin. The exhibition runs until Saturday 11 January 2020. dining & entertainment Exciting exhibition for young artists to shake up art scene across the region Does the Sunshine Coast region offer contemporary art that compares with metropolitan areas like Brisbane? Artist, Art Student and Curator Amanda Bennetts believes so. An ambitious project, Miss Bennetts is project planning and co-curating the 40 Under 40 Exhibition, which will take place at The Butter Factory Arts Centre. The exhibition aims to showcase local young, the vibrant and talented art scene in the region who are 40 years old and under. Currently undertaking her Bachelor of Fine Arts at Griffith University’s Queensland College of Art, Amanda was excited by the opportunities available for young emerging and professional artists in Brisbane. However, she was disenchanted that these prospects did not often transcribe to her home town of Noosa and the greater region. Miss Bennetts says, “We have an abundance of talented young visual artists who are from the region or live in the area who may not otherwise get an opportunity to showcase their art with other local young emerging and professional artists”. Miss Bennetts believes the arts community in the region can be a daunting scene to navigate for younger artists. With the 40 Under 40 Exhibition, Amanda would like to create opportunities for local young artists

to not only showcase their work and create creative networks but to also shake things up by challenging the community’s perceptions on “what is considered contemporary art in our regional setting”. Alicia Sharples, the Coordinator of The Butter Factory Arts Centre, says “art practices are not limited to the older generation, but the demographics on the Sunshine Coast has traditionally seen the older generation of artists exhibit. This is about to change, with local artist, Fine Arts student and curator Amanda Bennetts recent successful Regional Arts funding through Flying Arts Alliance, she has created an exhibition to be held at BFAC. The work expected will include many disciplines including but not limited to ceramics, jewellery, printmaking, installation and new media. This exciting exhibition will be held from 17.01.2020 – 18.02.2020 with the opening night Friday 17th of January, 2020 at 6pm. Expressions of interests will close on November 22, 2019, and both Amanda and Alicia encourage all local visual artists who are 40 years old and under to apply. Julie Rae and Jayne Southgate are working mums who met through their children’s school in late 2018. A chance conversation one day revealed a shared passion for helping those living with a disability or mental health. In February 2019 they used their combined 20 years industry experience to establish Shine Social and Communities (SC) with a vision to ethically provide clients, families and carers with a holistic approach in supporting individual’s health and wellbeing. Locally owned and operated, Shine SC aims to bring a different approach to how services are delivered. The purpose of their journey is to provide support that individuals actually need, to achieve goals and outcomes in a supportive and caring environment. Services include 1:1 individual support, and support coordination 7 days a week for all areas of the Sunshine Coast and hinterland from Caloundra to Gympie, for NDIS participants. Shine SC also offers a variety of programs, ranging from a Wednesday Mental Health and Wellbeing Day to a 12 week Everyday Living Skills Program which is held on Thursdays, and a Saturday Group Recreation Program. Those doing the Wednesday program may start the morning with a group exercise program, then move on to do a healthy cooking class and gardening. Participants also do creative workshops to make products such as bread boards and candles which are sold at a pop-up enterprise market once a month, with proceeds going back to the

community. Julie and Jayne, together with the staff at Shine SC are passionate about providing meaningful employment opportunities for adults with a disability. The ultimate goal is to create a more inclusive society where all individuals who may normally have barriers to employment are able to enjoy the full benefits of employment. To this end, Shine SC recently established an affordable and professional gardening service, giving people with disabilities the satisfaction, independence and sense of purpose that comes with being employed. The services offered are lawn mowing, general gardening, weed control, rubbish removal and hard surface pressure cleaning. Shine SC also offers respite at their beautiful Belli Park farm stay, Carlo Cottage. Accommodation at Carlo Cottage is available to mental health and disability NDIS participants. Packages and programs are tailored to suit individual choice, with 24 hour support, transportation and meals included. Activities may include (but are not limited to) yoga, meditation classes, movies, cooking, camp fire nights, courtesy bus to town for dinner, farm tours and day outings to explore the area. Shine SC has a strong focus in advocating for clients’ basic human rights, and believe that by working alongside each other, anything is possible. For any enquiries about our services, including gardening services, phone the Shine SC office on 5472 0713.

Grateful for you!

Wow! The Kindness Club is blown away by the response to our Community Gratitude Journals. There are over 300 entries! To our amazing community and visitors to our area, thank you for sharing some of the things in your life that you are grateful for. The children had a wonderful time reading all your entries! There was lots of “aaw”ing, lots of giggles and, most of all, lots of nodding. There is so much to be thankful for!

We are grateful to Nick at Jamaica Blue Cooroy and the Cooroy Library for sharing our journals, and we are VERY grateful to everyone who took the time to share some of their gratitude with us! Thank you! There was one person, however, who wrote that they were struggling to find something to be positive about. If you would like to email Wendy at thekindnessclub@outlook.com, we would love to share some positivity with you. We are thinking of you!

As we reach the midpoint of Movember, those Mostaches should be in full swing, a subtle reminder that, amongst all that is going on in the local community, it’s time to start a discussion about men’s health. Andrew Simonsen works at Pomona IGA and his moustache has been the punchline of many jokes which has encouraged other staff to engage in conversation about their own mental wellbeing. Many charity organisations get their respective limelight throughout the year, be it Breast Cancer Awareness, R U Ok? & Drought Angels to name a

few, thus during Movember, Men’s health is at the forefront of the agenda highlighting the need for men to focus on, not just only bad facial hair, but our mental and physical health as well. “With the summer party/ holiday season just weeks away, now would be a good time for males of any age to have a medical and mental health check up to ensure we men are at our best in front of family and friends during a known time of the year with a heavy focus on hedonism. Be sure to check on mates during this time as well, as mental illness can take on

Andrew Simonsen many forms,” said Andrew. If you know of any individual or organisation participating in Movember, please join in the fun of spreading a message (and

bad punchlines) via conversation and be sure drop some change in the donation box at Pomona IGA as your dough could save a bro!

Aged care residents home safely after evacuation Residents of NoosaCare’s aged care home at Carramar in Tewantin are safely home again following a two-night evacuation due to fires burning in the nearby areas. According to NoosaCare’s CEO Megan D’Elton, the successful evacuation of 140 people was a tribute to the professionalism and compassion of staff and volunteers who worked tirelessly to support residents during the stressful time. “We received an evacuation direction from Noosa Council late on Friday afternoon because of the fast burning fires in nearby Cooroibah and Tewantin and immediately put in place our plan – a plan that we have thankfully never had to use before,” Mrs D’Elton said. “I am very proud of the way staff and volunteers went about their duties organising medications, calling families, mobilising transport, comforting residents and pre-

paring for what turned out to be two nights away from home. “But I am even more proud of our residents who approached the evacuation with stoicism, resilience and good humour. It was a difficult time and there were frustrations but, on the whole, it was calm and smooth,” Mrs D’Elton said. The majority of the Carramar residents, including those living with dementia, were re-located to NoosaCare’s second aged care home at Kabara in Cooroy which saw its normal resident population of 85 almost double overnight. Many of the residents were taken home by families for the weekend although a number of families themselves were affected by the fires. Some residents with higher care needs were taken to local hospitals by the Queensland Ambulance Service.

health Plantar fasciitis - how can physio help?

COOROY RAG

Plantar fasciitis is a common condition of the foot and heel affecting both athletes and members of the general public. The plantar fascia is a fibrous band of tissue that attaches to the base of the heel and supports the muscles and arch on the base of the foot. When the plantar fascia becomes chronically irritated, it is referred to as plantar fasciitis. Plantar fasciitis is characterised by pain at the base of the heel. The pain is usually noticed upon waking when people take their first steps of the day. The pain usually settles down after walking around, yet may reappear after sitting for a while and getting up again. The pain can usually be reproduced when the inside of the heel is pressed, and the calf muscles might be noticeably less flexible. Plantar fasciitis can usually be diagnosed with a physical assessment by a physiotherapist. Left untreated, plantar fasciitis can lead to chronic heel pain, which can have a significant impact on quality of life, interfering with day to day activities. The plantar fascia supports the arches in the foot during weight-bearing and acts as a shock absorber. Small tears can appear in the fascia when it is exposed to excess tension and stress over time. While the exact cause is unknown, there are several risk factors that can increase the risk of this condition developing. These include obesity, excessive foot pronation, inadequate shoe support, prolonged standing and excessive running. It has previously been thought that plantar fasciitis is linked to or caused by heel

spurs. However, this has been shown to be untrue, and many people have heel spurs without any symptoms. The goal of physiotherapy is to reduce symptoms and support the fascia to reduce and repair any tissue damage. This is done through short term pain reduction strategies such as ice application, rest, activity modification and gentle stretches. To help reduce the tension on the fascia, lower leg strengthening and balance exercises will be implemented along with orthotics, and in some cases, corticosteroid injections. Your physiotherapist will address any biomechanical or training issues which may be contributing to your pain. None of the information in this article is a replacement for proper medical advice. Always see a medical professional for advice on your individual injury. Contact Rebecca Steele at Hinteractive Physio for further information on 5442 5556.

When is the best time to sell? There are many and varied reasons why you may want to sell your home and for most Australian homeowners, the decision to stay or sell is linked to family. It can be you’re your family is expanding – a first or second baby arriving making the current house feel small. Perhaps teenagers may need a space to call their own or a larger backyard may be required for growing children. A trigger may also be kids growing up and leaving home which prompts downsizing, leaving no need for the family home anymore and perhaps a low maintenance apartment may the next step. Or some parents are moving in with extended family so a larger property with granny flat or secondary dwelling is needed. Whatever the reasons they don’t always coincide with the perfect market conditions. Historically, we have seen people wanting to list their property in Spring when optimism is high and more people are out and about searching for that perfect property. The basic premise is that when the weather is moderate and the gardens are blooming, the properties are looking their best and it is the optimum time to sell. The reality on the Sunshine Coast is that tourism in the area has increased year on year and we have seen an increase in interstate buyers from Sydney and Melbourne. So right now, is a great time to get into the market as we are not only experiencing warmer weather but also historically

www.cooroyrag.com.au

low interest rates, which when combined is creating more demand from buyers returning to the market. This spike in homebuyers coming to town is also spurred on by the onset of Christmas with just eight weeks to go and people wanting to get in to their new homes during the holidays and for the start of the school year in late January. However, we do tell our sellers that even though people are active now in the marketplace and are buying they are being very selective. Which means it is imperative to present your property in the best light to capture their interest when they are researching the market and making plans about when and where to go house hunting. So, if you are deciding to list your house for sale it is important to research the housing market in your local area, so let me make it easy and hassle free and provide a free market assessment and determine the best strategy and timing of your sale. This will help you get the best sale price for your property. Call in for a chat or phone me Rita Malone at Ray White Eumundi on 0434 140 940. Cooroy Rag, November 20, 2019 - Page 25

Teeing up for breast cancer at Cooroy Golf Club Cooroy Golf Club women held their Tee Up For Breast Cancer Research on 31 October. It is a culmination of a fund raising effort to help in finding a cure for breast cancer. Earlier in the month Gary and Kym of Noosa River and Canal Cruises donated a sunset cruise to the cause. They also donated the first prize for the Ambrose competition today. All up, the women have raised over $1 600. A great effort from a small club. We were joined on the day by women from the Tewantin-Noosa Cricket Club of which one of our members, Patsy Fayne

is the team mentor. They took part in the competition, and one of their members, Paula, conducted an auction which proved to be a source of hilarity and donations. Many thanks to all those who helped make the day such a success. The winners of the 4-person Ambrose were T Mason, L Williams, J Collis and E Henman with R Martin, S Zulpo, P McAulay and P Fayne coming a close second. Winners of the 3-person Ambrose were C Foster, J Rabjohns and K Johnston with runners-up M Lucas, A Morton and F Buchanan.

Lake Macdonald Fresh Water Fishing Club September 27 was our second last fishing comp for 2019 with Russell Manning grabbing the lead from Paul Fleming in our club championship. Gary Kenzler is still holding onto 3rd place with one final comp to go to decide this year’s champion. The Toby Brown cow bell inter club comp is coming up later this month with Cooroy hoping to win back the bell from Yandina fishing club. At the end of day’s fishing we’ll hold our end of year break up party with new club champ crowned or drowned. Good news with Fisheries having increased Bass catch from 2 to 5 in the Lake Macdonald Impoundment. More great news with reports from visiting fisherman and club members reporting several sightings of mutable Platypus. Sightings are around the 6 Mile bridge end of the Lake, Cooroy Tewantin Road. Go to the park at the 6 Mile around sunset or early mornings. Sit nice a quiet and you may be rewarded with your own sighting, keeping in mind they are very shy. Last month a fish counting survey was carried out and to their great surprise the fish numbers far exceeded expectations. Another concern for SEQ water is the low water levels in the SE water impoundments. With no dam filling rain forecast this may very well put the new dam wall on hold until water levels are at a safer level. So grab a fishing permit and come give your local Lake a try, you may be very surprised by the results. Happy fishing, Gary Kenzler
