High five to Noosa Country Show GREY skies may have threatened, but the 107th annual Noosa Country Show attracted thousands of locals last weekend and they went home happy. Organisers of this year’s show said there was something for everyone and the ticket sales proved it. Few country shows have stood the test of time as well as Noosa and the Pomona showground is still the hub of the community, in the town where Noosa Shire was originally formed so many years ago. For two full days, the main arena was full of horses and activity with people of all ages showing off what they have. Riders from all over regional Queensland came to enter with some as young as five years old. As with all good shows there was sideshow alley, rides of all kinds face painting, great family entertainment and food as far as the eye could see. A massive selection of different goodies meant that show goers were spoiled for choice. The rain never really took hold and show goers were happy and right into the spirit of the two day celebration. Our show remains one of Queensland’s premier traditional country shows and this year, the theme of Living in the Noosa Biosphere took centre stage. Around the showground there was plenty of artwork, baked goods, vegetables and fruit, flowers, jams, photographs, plants and more. Some 18 sections submitting for judging including horses, flowers and fruit and vegetables in categories for kids and adults and a massive variety throughout the pavilion. Show president, Perene Barker said she’s delighted how thing all came together over the two days. “It’s been a labour of love again this year, but we’re very happy with the way it all came together,” she said. “We’re a passionate show committee and thrilled with the program we assembled for 2016. I really want to thank them for their incredible efforts, allowing us to showcase the very best of Noosa Country to so many. We have to thank our many sponsors too. Noosa Council has been a great support along Geoff Edwards and the team at the Pomona and Cooroy Community Bank branches of Bendigo Bank”, Perene added. This year, The Radiators headlined an awesome line up of entertainment including, X Factor’s Jimmy Davis, the Laser Light Spectacular and lots of KC Fireworks. Monster Dinosaur Rolly Polly Trucks entertained the crowd on Saturday along with the Honky Tonk Rodeo and amateur and pro barrel racing and of course, the bull ride. Two stages hosted a jammed packed line up with great bands like Kevin Barker and the Beagle Babes, Smokin’ Mirrors, Burlesque L’ Amour, Gypsy Hawk, Big Bob’s Blues Band, Robyn and the Hoods, Barry Charles and more. Perhaps it was the affordable ticket price is what attracted so many for the two days? A family pass for one day was $35 and $45 for both days. If you missed the 107th instalment of this great community get-together, then plan to get along in 2017. Pictured: Lylah Michelutti enjoying all the fun of the fair (See more show photos on Page 3)
