High five to Noosa Country Show GREY skies may have threatened, but the 107th annual Noosa Country Show attracted thousands of locals last weekend and they went home happy. Organisers of this year’s show said there was something for everyone and the ticket sales proved it. Few country shows have stood the test of time as well as Noosa and the Pomona showground is still the hub of the community, in the town where Noosa Shire was originally formed so many years ago. For two full days, the main arena was full of horses and activity with people of all ages showing off what they have. Riders from all over regional Queensland came to enter with some as young as five years old. As with all good shows there was sideshow alley, rides of all kinds face painting, great family entertainment and food as far as the eye could see. A massive selection of different goodies meant that show goers were spoiled for choice. The rain never really took hold and show goers were happy and right into the spirit of the two day celebration. Our show remains one of Queensland’s premier traditional country shows and this year, the theme of Living in the Noosa Biosphere took centre stage. Around the showground there was plenty of artwork, baked goods, vegetables and fruit, flowers, jams, photographs, plants and more. Some 18 sections submitting for judging including horses, flowers and fruit and vegetables in categories for kids and adults and a massive variety throughout the pavilion. Show president, Perene Barker said she’s delighted how thing all came together over the two days. “It’s been a labour of love again this year, but we’re very happy with the way it all came together,” she said. “We’re a passionate show committee and thrilled with the program we assembled for 2016. I really want to thank them for their incredible efforts, allowing us to showcase the very best of Noosa Country to so many. We have to thank our many sponsors too. Noosa Council has been a great support along Geoff Edwards and the team at the Pomona and Cooroy Community Bank branches of Bendigo Bank”, Perene added. This year, The Radiators headlined an awesome line up of entertainment including, X Factor’s Jimmy Davis, the Laser Light Spectacular and lots of KC Fireworks. Monster Dinosaur Rolly Polly Trucks entertained the crowd on Saturday along with the Honky Tonk Rodeo and amateur and pro barrel racing and of course, the bull ride. Two stages hosted a jammed packed line up with great bands like Kevin Barker and the Beagle Babes, Smokin’ Mirrors, Burlesque L’ Amour, Gypsy Hawk, Big Bob’s Blues Band, Robyn and the Hoods, Barry Charles and more. Perhaps it was the affordable ticket price is what attracted so many for the two days? A family pass for one day was $35 and $45 for both days. If you missed the 107th instalment of this great community get-together, then plan to get along in 2017. Pictured: Lylah Michelutti enjoying all the fun of the fair (See more show photos on Page 3)

THE sun shone brightly on Sunday for the Dads and also for the 2 nd annual Noosa Botanic Gardens Plant Fair. “We were forecasting numbers might be up on the great attendance of last year” said Plant Fair Organiser Jill Brownlee “We were delighted when we saw so many people walking into the Gardens – families with young children and couples and keen solo gardeners”. And the Friends of Noosa Botanic Gardens were well prepared for them having propagated from Noosa Botanic Gardens cuttings and elsewhere almost double the amount they had last year. There were also new plant nurseries and organisations participating too including the Noosa Mens Shed whose gardening team had been propagating and their woodwork members making bird feeders and boxes. Bill Lodge from the Noosa Mens Shed said “we sold 95% of what we brought along. And items such as our honey was completely sold out before noon”. The food and beverages were very popular too with Cherry Pip coffee although doubling their products and staffing from last year also sold out. There were also lots of takers for the damper and billy tea provided by the Cooroy Rotary accompanied by three exceptional bush poets. Paul Plant, President of the Friends of Noosa Botanic Gardens, was delighted with the huge response from the Noosa and regional community. “Net proceeds from the Plant Fair are redirected back to supporting the Noosa Botanic Gardens. So not only do plant buyers get some unique and often hard to find plants for their own gardens but are also helping to grow our own Botanic Gardens.” If you’d like to become involved, contact Louise Phillimore on 5474 3502 or email fnbgsecretary @gmail.com

Interchange roundabout now open MINISTER for Infrastructure and Transport Darren Chester said the new roundabout was a major milestone in the delivery of the $490 million Bruce Highway, Cooroy to Curra - Section A project. “This roundabout is a vital component of the Cooroy southern interchange upgrade, which will meet capacity and efficiency demands for long-term road freight and transport needs in the region,” Mr Chester said. “In its entirety, the Section A project will deliver a new 13.5 kilometre, four-lane divided highway between the Cooroy southern interchange and the recently completed section of the Bruce Highway at Federal.” Queensland Minister for Main Roads and Road Safety Mark Bailey said it was great to see both the Australian and Queensland Governments working in partnership to deliver much needed improvements to the Bruce Highway. “An average of 433 jobs will be supported throughout

the life of the project,” Mr Bailey said. Mr Bailey added there would be several traffic changes in place on the local roads. “A separate 200-metre section of Nandroya Road will remain a single lane with a reduced speed limit of 40k/h until early October, with temporary traffic lights in place,” Mr Bailey said. “Motorists are reminded to follow road rules and provide a one-metre clearance to cyclists along this section.” Federal Member for Wide Bay Llew O’Brien said a new 200-metre realigned section of Nandroya Road would open in both directions from the roundabout. “Motorists will use the new roundabout to access Nandroya Road and the southbound on-ramp to the Bruce Highway,” Mr O’Brien said. “The Section A project is expected to be completed by early 2017, weather permitting.”

Cooroy Probus Club Bendigo Bank's Jo Winter joins Riley (year 3), Benjamin (year 2), Priyanka (year 1) and Oliver (Prep) with their prizes OH to be that young again! The Prep-Year 3 students at Cooroy State School were a picture of unbridled joy as put teachers and grown-ups through their paces at the Under 8’s day last week. Craft making, skipping, face painting, playing musical instruments, play dough were only interrupted by time on the obstacle course, a climb on the fire truck, parachute activities and weaving. That was all capped off by a massive sausage sizzle and assurance that after all the fun had been washed off, lots of young party-goers slept very well indeed. Asked to help join in on the fun, Jo Winter from Cooroy Community Bank branch took time out to visit the school and loved what she saw. “It was organised chaos down there. Most of all, it was great to hear the kids’ laughter and the smiles on the faces of the teachers and parents too. It’s a great initiative and the kids were clearly having the time of their lives,” Jo said. On the day, students entered a colouring-in competition and Jo returned this week to present each year group winners with some prize packs. “We love our close relationship with Cooroy State School and it was great to see each winners’ eyes light up as they came up to collect their prize. We’ll look forward to doing it all again next year,” Jo added. For more information about Cooroy State School and its great programs, call 5472 2100.

Thank you Brazil The Olympic Games are over, the last races have been run, Brazil did a splendid job, even though many had them under the gun. The Games were played in the right spirit, the competitors did their best, The medals won were noteworthy, and no reflection on the rest. All was colour and happiness especially the opening and the finale, Those Brazilians know how to enjoy themselves and certainly know how to party. Sadly, some of the critics and the media overdid the Australian expectations, And when some of the Australians didn’t perform they cried for explanations. All the experts wanted was a medal and a win, And not to get more medals was almost a mortal sin. We had coaches arguing with coaches, the executive in a boil, Olympic big wigs in self-inflicted unnecessary turmoil. Just to be an Olympian is to fill a lifelong dream, And then to win a medal must be the sensation supreme. Why don’t the Australians give credit, and not be so quick to seek fault, We get beaten in the Rugby, and claim a referee assault. We suffered a Test and whitewash, and lost the unlosable cricket, It wasn’t the Australians’ fault, just blame it on the wicket. No doubt the Brazilians achieved a bright successful Games, They’re not looking for guilt, or filling the world with blame. Our Olympic officials had earned a medal for speed, in searching for a reason, I’ll bet they want more money, for the 2020 season. The beauty of this race is that you don’t even have to place to BEGINNERS TO ADVANCED be a winner as there are also five random draws of $100! Of course, just the fact you are raising funds for such a THEORY & PRACTICAL good cause is enough reason to race! The Great Santa Race will start at Apex Park in Cooroy 10 Fantail Cresent at 4.30pm on Saturday 3 December. Entry to the Great Santa Race is only $10 and all entrants receive a free Cooroy Santa suit to race in. Supporting our patch Geoff Edwards, Branch Manager, Bendigo Community Bank, Cooroy ALL of us live and belong to a community somewhere. In our case, it’s Cooroy, Pomona, Cooran, Kin Kin or somewhere in the beautiful Noosa hinterland. Some of us choose to be more social and interact with others within our community, while others are happy and content to do their own thing. A successful community will benefit all who live in it. By successful community I mean residents feel safe living here, we have access to quality facilities, are able to earn a living within the community and that our towns look good and have a vibrant feel to them. There are some simple things we all do to enhance our community experience. Choosing to do these things locally can make a real difference for everyone. Choosing to shop locally is a great start. This one is obvious. By shopping in our own back yard we get to know the people we deal with on a regular basis. This can be comforting as most people like to deal with people they know and trust. Local business will often try to support other local businesses so fruit, vegetables and other items are often sourced from around our region. Shopping locally supports the local business owner. Utilising facilities, attractions or even attending local events is another way of getting involved in your local community. We proudly sponsor the Noosa Country Show and have done so for many years along with Noosa Council. It’s good, old fashioned community celebration at its best and brings generations and the many facets of our community together. Attending events like this ensures exposure for our region, attracting spending customers into the town. The great thing about the show and its

president, Perene Barker and her amazing team of volunteers is that the event is produced to support local businesses by local business owners and community volunteers. It’s a great example of our community supporting and celebrating itself. This event has been getting bigger and bigger over the years and the bottom line is a celebration with a thriving community is always a great place to be. So why not get out there and enjoy the great community we have here? If you would like to learn more about the many ways your Cooroy Community Bank branch and Pomona agency of Bendigo Bank is involved in our community, contact me on 5447 7131 (Cooroy) or 5485 1786 (Pomona) or on email at geoff.edwards@bendigoadelaide.com.au to see how doing your banking with makes a difference for all who live here. Geoff Edwards is the manager of the Cooroy Community Bank branch of Bendigo Bank located at 36 Maple Street and Pomona agency of Bendigo Bank at 3 Station Street, Pomona.

news How to safeguard your goals and greatest assets

COOROY RAG

Chad Monroe Certified Financial Planner® of Provision Wealth Management* COVERING home base could make all the difference, whether you’re saving for something today, tomorrow or in retirement. You may be saving for an overseas trip, planning to buy your first home, putting aside money for your kids’ education, or preparing to set sail in the years after you’ve stopped working. Whatever your goal or aspiration, you don’t want it derailed at the last minute by something unexpected, which is why a financial safety net or contingency plan could be your knight in shining armour. Take a moment to think about the what-ifs You may have one goal or several, but consider if you were blindsided by an accident or illness and your income took a hit. Your ability to physically and financially accomplish what you had set out to achieve could be seriously delayed or disrupted. Things like: • The completion of your tertiary studies • Saving for your engagement party,

wedding or honeymoon • Your domestic or overseas holiday plans • Your children’s education and their extracurricular activities • Your ability to save for or pay off your home • Your desire to start or expand your small business • Your property renovation dreams • The date you want to retire • Your recreational goals in the years after work. It’s easy to see why you might want to safeguard what matters most in this equation—you. Your wellbeing is a crucial factor in reaching your goals and this is something worth noting, particularly with one in five people being unable to work at one point or another in their lifetime. How can you secure your goals? If something were to happen - say you injured yourself or got sick and were unable to work and earn an income - the last thing you’d probably want to do is abandon your travel plans, sell

your home, dip into your kids’ education fund or desert your golf or bridge membership in retirement. If you don’t have a financial buffer in place, things that may be worth thinking about could include an emergency fund where you set aside some savings, taking out personal insurance, or if you’re already insured, checking the level of insurance you have is adequate. While these things won’t prevent an accident or illness, they can give you peace of mind that you can cover the day-to-day and any additional costs that may come your way, so you don’t have to postpone the goals on your horizon. The types of protection available If you’re not familiar with personal insurance, you can buy different forms through your super fund, which is where more than 70% of policies are held currently, or via an insurance company, broker or financial

adviser. The four main types that are available, although not always through super, include: • Income protection • Trauma insurance • Total and permanent disability • Life insurance In the meantime, good luck achieving your goals, whatever they may be, and if you’re after tools, technology and experiences to help give you the best chance of realising what you want to accomplish, please contact us on 07 5447 7740 if you would like to discuss. *Chad Monroe of

ONE of the most important parts of running a business is maintaining a large network of useful contacts. Finding and maintaining contacts while you’re busy running your own business may seem insurmountable, but the Cooroy Chamber of Commerce has the solution. The Cooroy Chamber of Commerce is offering a Networking Night which is open to anyone wishing to attend. The Networking Night focuses on making sure attendees meet as many people as possible, and never the same person twice. Each person presents a short pitch to their group, after which they’ll hear other business people’s short pitches before being rotated to a new group. “We use a system called Network Engine which was developed by one of our members, Our Town Apps for our networking nights. It’s now used by all sorts of organisations for networking meetings. It’s a fantastic tool that ensures no one is hidden in the shadows or left hugging their drink because they are too embarrassed to introduce themselves to a group. We always receive great feedback about these nights from attendees – new

contacts, new business and even new friends result!” said Cooroy Chamber of Commerce President, Danielle Taylor. Both members of the Chamber and non-members are invited and encouraged to attend this event so that a vast array of businesses from all across the region are present. The Cooroy Chamber of Commerce will even send you a cheat sheet on how to prepare the best possible pitch so that you get the most out of your night. But the event isn’t just about pitching your business, it’s a great opportunity to talk to other business owners in a relaxed, social environment. Finger food is provided and a cash bar is available. The Speed Networking Night will be held on 6 October from 5:45pm at the Cooroy State School Hall, on Elm Street. NOW STOCKING PREMIUM RANGE OF M-BRACE & MOON BOOTS

Laces are one of the many unique features exclusive to M-Brace. We lovingly call them ‘spaghetti’ but there’s a good reason for having them. These tension straps made from multiple corded strands work very differently from the common ‘single’ velcro strap. They allow blood to flow more freely under the strap so we don’t get the typical tourniquet effect that most braces deliver. In addition the experience of locking down a brace using these straps feels very different to other supports. The brace hugs the body with a more embracing connection and delivers improved fit and a better overall experience for the patient. Hence the name M-Brace.

Sauers has your garden needs covered WELL where was winter this year? We are now back into Spring again, and the gardens are looking magnificent a they come alive for the new season. The world of flowering plants is wide and varied, but as always Sauers is ready for Spring with dazzling Spring performers in the nursery such as Azaleas, Calibrochoa, blooming natives including kangaroo Paws, Grevilleas and Leptospermums. You will find the nursery behind the retail shop and the Sauers team is always ready to help you bring your garden to life. Once again the comprehensive range of products also consist of fertilisers for different applications for making your lawns and gardens lush and healthy this Spring. Terra Firma Fertilisers is family owned, 100 per cent Australian and has been producing quality fertilisers for 27 years. They understand what your plants and lawns need to feed and strengthen. The Terra Firma range of fertilisers contains a diverse and active population of beneficial soil microbes supported by a wide variety of minerals and organic foods. The heart of the range is composted poultry manure. Terra Firma have recently overhauled their product range examining the needs of our plants in today’s growing climate and conditions. When dealing with extreme fluctuations in weather it means that fertilisers have to be smarter than before. To achieve this Terra Firma have reviewed their processes, looked at the latest research and sourced the best inputs in formulating their new range. For plants that need support to flower and fruit Terra-Firma Organic Life, Organically certified includes 4 forms of natural Nitrogens, 4 forms of Calcium, 3 forms of sulphur and 2 forms of silicon. For proud lawn lovers amongst us Grassmaster will be a certain pleaser and is an easy to spread granular product. Plant growth is all about the availability of nutrients to the plants. By designing a fertiliser that offers more than one form with different but com-

plementary release times that allow the plants to uptake the nutrients when needed, it results in a beneficial cycle of sustained nourishment for all stages of plant growth and production life. The product range is available in loose bulk 1 tonne, 25kg and soon to be released 15kg, great value. Also new to Sauers Produce and Garden Centre, Terra Firma has released a range of fertiliser spreaders, including a sturdy 160kg capacity steel unit. Great for pasture and acreages it features a functional ball type hitch that suits 4 wheelers, utilities or ride-ons. Also in the range is an 80kg tow behind spreader. Terra Firma Fertiliser will be giving all Sauers customers a chance to win a fertiliser spreader valued at $385 just by purchasing any Terra Firma product throughout the months of September and October. Entries close 30th November. The winner will be published in Cooroy Rag. For more info phone 5442 5933 or call into Sauers Produce & Garden Centre on the east side of Cooroy at 13 Diamond Street.

Class of 2015 THE school formal is probably one of the most major and much anticipated events of your final year of high school. Parents have lamented that the preparations are much akin to planning a wedding, especially for the girls so now is the time to start planning as those weeks slip away very quickly. The NDSHS graduation ceremony will be held on Thursday, November 17 at the school hall from 4-6pm with celebrations after at the RACV Noosa. Ensure that you’re organised way ahead of time and have budgeted for all of the expenses. This is your night, let yourself shine. If you feel confident, you’ll have a great time. If you feel uncomfortable and self-conscious in what you’re wearing you won’t. Your dress, hair and make-up may look fabulous but your whole night can be ruined by being unable to walk in those 8 inch heels. Comfort means confidence and confidence equals a good time. Make sure you get lots of photos with your mates because once school’s finished you’ll miss those faces you’re used to seeing every day. And most of all … enjoy the night, make memories. Your days of the old school yard are finally over.

A mum participating in the new Active Mum’s program while her child watches on. Membership to the new program is now open. FOLLOWING the overwhelming success of the Active Mums Program that ran March - August this year, Council has committed to supporting a new Active Mum’s Program due to start this month. The new program provides affordable access to exercise classes at the Noosa Leisure and Noosa Aquatic Centres that are specifically tailored to the needs of postnatal women. Membership to the new Active Mum’s Program is just $9.95 per week - paid via fortnightly direct debit - and includes: access to six different exercise classes per week and unlimited lap-swimming at Noosa Aquatic Centre. All Mums with at least one child under the age of five, qualify for the program for a 12-month period. An on-site crèche is available at both facilities where specified on the Active Mums timetable. For those who don’t quite feel ready for a membership, Council is offering ten free passes to spe-

cial introductory postnatal exercise classes. Noosa Council’s Community Development Officer, Amanda Tie, said “Over 380 mums participated in the original, government grant funded, Active Mums program. “95% of these mums reported an increase in their health, fitness, emotional well-being and social connection as a result of the program. “97% reported that they intend to continue with their regular exercise once the funded period of the program finished. “There are also now seven new weekly exercise programs for mums run by local businesses that have been created as a direct result of the Active Mums Program. “This is an outstanding result and the reason why Council wants to ensure that the program continues. For more information visit www.noosa.qld.gov.au/active-mums or call the Noosa Leisure Centre on 5329 6550.

Cyling to fight kids’ cancer

No Nikes for Hannah

AMES Farley will be taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge this October to help fight kids’ cancer. Great Cycle Challenge encourages people of all ages and fitness levels to get on their bikes this October and ride to fight kids’ cancer! “Right now, cancer is the largest single killer of children from disease in Australia – over 600 children are diagnosed with cancer every year and sadly, 3 die every week,” says Ames. “Kids should be living life, not fighting for it so I am riding and raising funds to support the Children’s Medical Research Institute to continue their work into the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and finding a cure for childhood cancer.” You can support Ames’ challenge by making a donation through her fundraising page https:// greatcyclechallenge.com.au

NOOSA District State High School Year 9 student Hannah Flannery was so upset to hear about the ill treatment of workers in Nike factories in Indonesia and Vietnam, that she took action and wrote a letter to Nike’s CEO Mark Parker. Hannah was saddened to find that the popular sportswear brand did not pay their workers a fair wage and many of the factories did not offer safe working conditions. Hannah wrote a letter to Nike’s CEO Mark Parker after viewing the documentary, Behind the Swoosh, which saw the American documentary maker and his friend try to live off the wages Nike pays it workers in Indonesia. The film makers became quite sick, lost a lot of weight and struggled to find the money to meet basic human needs. Hannah has vowed to no longer purchase Nike products until fair and safe practices for their workers are implemented.

Am I too old to exercise? IF you’ve ever thought you aren’t standing as straight and tall as you once did, find walking up a flight of stairs to be a strain at times or you groan when reaching for the arms of a chair as you slowly get up from sitting, you aren’t alone. “We don’t stop exercising because we get old, we get old because we stop exercising,” says Lee Smith from Make a Difference Health and Fitness, “This is one of the key ideas behind our ‘At Your Pace’ and our small group fitness classes”. Older adults hurt themselves more through inactivity than through activity. Our strength, flexibility, balance and endurance wither when we don’t exercise. Exercise will enable you to fully engage in life - adding years to your life and life to your years! With the At Your Pace fitness classes, each set of exercises are specifically designed to be able to be completed at differing levels of difficulty. With this unique method, anyone from any fitness level will benefit from the class. Maintaining at least moderate activity is a key component in a positive health regimen. This will combat or prevent many conditions such as weight-related diseases, heart disease, anatomical and structural impairments, hypertension, osteoporosis, cholesterol, Alzheimer’s, loss of muscle mass and decreased sociability. To prevent normal biological changes caused by aging, seek kinder, gentler workouts; slower and longer warm-ups and cool-downs; and exercise routines that emphasise diminished risk of injury while promoting posture, strength, endurance,

flexibility, agility and balance. At Your Pace classes offer all of these aspects in a fun 1hr class. There are several types of exercise that are important – cardio, strength training, flexibility training, balance training and core training. Cardio is moderately intense aerobic activity such as walking, swimming, using a treadmill or elliptical trainer and biking. Strength training is exercises that are designed to increase muscular strength and endurance including resistance training with machines or free weights. Flexibility training involves stretching and range of motion exercises. Balance training helps with stability and involves exercises such as backward and sideways walking, heel and toe walking or using a workout ball or balance pad. And core training is exercises that strengthen your abs and other muscles that stabilize the spine and pelvis and run the entire length of the torso. We incorporate each of theses five key areas into the At Your Pace classes again with the flexibility to work at a level that is comfortable and safe for your level of fitness and flexibility. So the answer to am I too old to exercise is No! It might seem overwhelming but there are lots of options available and help is on hand. So get on your way to a younger and healthier you by giving Lee Smith a call at Make a Difference Health and Fitness on 5442 6179 or 0407 597 748 or visit their website on www.madhf.com.au. At Your Pace classes are held at the CWA Hall, Maple St, Cooroy on Wednesdays at 1.30pm and our small individualised group sessions on Mondays and Wednesdays at 9.00. Please call to book your spot as places are limited.

Abdominal muscle separation – in pregnancy and beyond ABDOMINAL Muscle separation (rectus diastasis) is a common occurrence during pregnancy, although many women are unaware that they have this condition. Whilst this separation is a natural occurrence to accommodate a growing baby, it is important to prevent or minimize the degree of separation during pregnancy and monitor it carefully postnatally to ensure that it does not become problematic. Diastasis Recti is simply a term for separation of the rectus abdominis muscle which is the outer “6 pack” muscle running from the breastbone to the pubic bone. The muscle comprises a left and right half which is joined down the centre by thick connective tissue called the linea alba. During pregnancy, this connective tissue stretches due to the growing baby and can become thinner and in some circumstances develop tears. This causes the outer abdominal muscles to function ineffectively with the possibility of developing other issues such as lower back pain, core instability, incontinence, hernias, postural issues and the much complained about “mummy tummy”. If you are pregnancy, there are some ways to assist in preventing a large diastasis. Ensuring good

health Local man paddles to fight child trafficking EUMUNDI local Wade James will Paddle Home on his ski from Noosa to his birthplace Bundaberg determined to raise the funds required to help Forget Me Not rescue more kids from orphanages and reunite them with their families. Andrea Nave, Forget Me Not CEO said, “He also aims to raise awareness about orphanages in countries like Nepal where well-meaning volunteers and tourists have been proven to contribute to the demand for ‘orphans’ to fill orphanages” “Wade’s solo open ocean paddle is a huge challenge that will take determination and skill to complete” Wade James local businessman and entrepreneur said, “The rescued children who have come under the care of Forget Me Not have false records and identities, most are sick and all of them are traumatised “The children have had little or no schooling and are behind their peers in numeracy and literacy. “Once I learned that over 85% of these kids in orphanages aren’t orphans and had parents, I knew that I had to try to help get these kids home.” said James The charity has worked in Nepal with vulnerable children from the orphanage trade since 2005 and is a leader in the area of family tracing for children. “On Father’s Day we were able to take in three more children who had been trafficked into India from Nepal thanks to Wade’s fundraising efforts so

far” said Andrea Nave, CEO of Forget Me Not Australia. “Clean running hot water, hygienic bathrooms, new clothes, hot meals and fresh beds were met with disbelief and silent gratitude “Our reunification team is working around the clock to find their families and get them home as soon as possible because research shows that children do better in families not orphanages.” said Nave Forget Me Not’s inaugural Paddle Home aims to raise $80k to reunite trafficked children with their families in Nepal.

posture, appropriate core muscle exercises, and avoiding excessive weight gain during pregnancy call all be beneficial. Some people have a genetic predisposition to developing a large diastasis due to weaker connective tissue. Pregnant women may notice a bulge or dome of the centre of the abdominal wall when they go to rise from a reclined position. This is a tell-tale sign of an abdominal separation. After having a baby, women should have their abdominal muscles assessed within the first month to determine degree and severity of any diastasis present. Specific exercises can be prescribed by a physiotherapist along with supporting garments/ braces to assist the recovery of the abdominal muscles. In severe cases, surgery may be necessary but is generally not encouraged until you have finished having children unless hernias are present. Early intervention offers the best chance of recovery so don’t delay in seeking help if you think that have may have an abdominal muscle separation. Eumundi Dragons thank their passionate supporters ANOTHER successful season has come to an end for Eumundi Dragons Junior Rugby Club. President, Doug Toms took time to thank the club faithful and sponsors at their presentation day last weekend. “Like most clubs, our season began with our sign on day in February and our wonderful committee has really put in the hard yards for us in 2016. I’m really proud of what our club has achieved this season, but

watching the improvement of so many of our players has been the greatest reward of all,” Doug said. “The enthusiasm of our coaches, managers and volunteers has provided so much benefit to our players and we’re very grateful for all they have done,” he added. Doug also welcomed Cooroy Community Bank branch and Pomona agency’s Geoff Edwards and thanked him for his support. Applause soon broke

out after Geoff announced the bank would again support the club again in 2017, ensuring junior rugby will continue to be played in our Noosa Hinterland community. “We’ve so appreciated the support of Bendigo Bank again this season and it’s great to know they’ll be on board with us again next year. Geoff and his team are so great to work with and their sponsorship allows us to offer support for all lovers of the game they play in heaven,” Scott said. Those sentiments were echoed by Geoff. “We’re delighted to be on board again, giving kids an opportunity to stay fit, learn more about this great game and have lots of fun at the same time. Let’s hope even more locals

businesses sign on and get involved in supporting the Dragons next year,” Geoff said. So as thoughts al-

LAKE Cootharaba Sailing Club at Boreen Point invites adults and juniors to our ‘Try Sailing’ days on Friday 23rd and Saturday 24th September. It is a great opportunity to come along and see what the LCSC is all about and experience the exciting and rewarding sport of sailing. The cost of the two day Try Sailing clinic is $50 per person for non-club members. However, if you wish to join the club with a 12 month membership the price is only $10 per person. Club membership also entitles you to ongoing free sail training every Sunday morning and use of the club boats. Club membership is great value, for example, a family membership is only $135. Sailing is a sport that the whole family can participate in. New members, both sailing and social, are welcomed as part of the club. LCSC is a not-for-profit organisation and is reliant on its volunteer members to organise both on the water and shore based activities. Volunteers are always welcome to help out with any activity around the Club, but it is the race management side that is often the most interesting and rewarding. Members, who are interested in race management, are taught basic skills to be able to detect wind direction and set courses for the competitors. We also have volunteers who act as timekeepers and recorders to start and finish races. The sailing season basically runs from September to Easter with racing happening every Sunday with occasional two day regattas which attract sailors from all over Queensland and NSW. If you can’t make the Try Sailing this time, just drop into the club any Sunday morning to find out how you can join in and get into sailing. Enquiries: Sue Germain Ph 54850727 or Charlie Hacker ph 0427548527. Website: lcsc.org.au and Lake Cootharaba Sailing Club Facebook

IT’S that time of year again, the weather is warming up and a perfect time to get into swimming. Have you seen the new swimming blocks at the Cooroy Pool? If not why don’t you come and see. The Cooroy Dolphins Swimming Club have been the proud recipients of the Queensland Government grant for 6 new state of the art diving blocks. The total cost of the new blocks was $32000.00 and we are proud to say that the Cooroy community will benefit from these new blocks. The Cooroy Dolphins would like to thank, The Queensland State Government, Cowan Taylor Aquatics for closing the pool for a week to get the new blocks installed, all our Sponsors (Bendigo Bank, Cooroy Family Practice, Sunshine Mitre 10 Cooroy, Wythes Real Estate, Mower

& ATV Solutions, Noosa to Hinterland Plumbing Group, Chapmans Auto Repairs & Optometry@Cooroy) without our sponsors donations we would not have been able to put money towards the blocks and receive our grant. Cooroy Dolphins swimming club will have a Sign on day on Monday October 3rd from 11am to 1pm, come down to the Cooroy pool for a BBQ and swim and join the Cooroy Dolphins Swimming Club. The Club will also be hosting its annual swimming carnival meet which is a great carnival for new swimmers in the sport on Saturday 22nd October. If any businesses would like to make donations for our carnival which is our biggest fundraising day please contact our Club President Ben Wright on 0437 512 271.

The Wombats finish 2016 on a high ship is the next step in a great relationship with the Wombats. We’re able to commit to sponsorships like this as more locals choose to do their banking with us. “I think we can all see great things for the club this year and we’ll be there cheering them on,” Geoff said. Anyone looking to become involved with Cooroora United can do so by contacting the club through any of the numbers on its website: cufc.org.au.
