Christmas In Cooroy spreads Christmas cheer BY ALEX PURCELL
Merry Christmas!
I
'TIS the season to be jolly and Cooroy came alive with the spirit of Christmas for the annual Christmas In Cooroy celebration. More than 5,000 people attended the time-honoured Cooroy event on Friday 9 December. A free event hosted by the Cooroy Chamber of Commerce, president Sirah Robb said it was wonderful to see the community come together. “Volunteers started organising the event in May this year, so after hundreds of hours of preparation it was special to see it all come together on the night. “We estimate 5,000 to 6,000 visitors gathered for a night of joy, laughter and community celebration.” Cooroy sparkled with Christmas magic from the moment Santa arrived in a parade led by emergency services, stilt walkers and marching band to when the community gathered for the annual lighting of the town’s Christmas tree. “The Cooroy Chamber's new Santa photo scene looked spectacular and was a hit, with photos being taken from the moment Santa arrived in style in a hot rod, to the end of the event,” Ms Robb said. “We gave away to attendees 300 free show bags with generous inclusions from local businesses. “Late-night trading was popular, with many getting a start on their Christmas shopping. Showcasing our local businesses is a key initiative of the Cooroy Chamber of Commerce and has proven to be
popular since the updated format Christmas In Cooroy was adopted in 2020 in response to requirements during the pandemic.
More than 5,000 people attended the time-honoured Cooroy event on Friday 9 December. “There was an incredible lineup of free activities, competitions and entertainment. The Santa race had everyone holding their breath as the winner somersaulted over the finish line. Some serious talent was seen in the bike decorating competition and Jingle Joggers were seen jaunting around Cooroy in their reindeer antlers. “But the lighting of the tree was the most magical of all, with everyone gathering under the snow on lighting.” From 5:30 to 8:30 pm attendees enjoyed live music, entertainment, stalls, activities, markets, and food and drink in Cooroy's Maple and Emerald Streets and Cooroy Butter Factory Arts Centre. Ms Robb said the success of Christmas In Cooroy would not have been possible without everyone involved. “Thank you to the hard work and dedication of the Cooroy Chamber of Commerce, Christmas In Cooroy committee, local businesses, our very generous sponsors, and passionate volunteers who poured their hearts into creating a memorable event. “A very big thank you to all.”
