Who are we? Copper Area News Publishers was started by John D. Seater in the 1950’s as a newspaper for the newly built community of Kearny. The newspaper was called the Copper Basin News. He retained ownership for several years before selling the publication and relocating his family to Texas. In the 1970’s Mr. Seater and his family returned to Arizona and repurchased the Copper Basin News. He further expanded by purchasing the Superior Sun (covering Superior Arizona ) and the San Manuel Miner (covering the Arizona communities of San Manuel, Mammoth and Oracle). During the 1980’s Mr. Seater’s daughter Gayle and her husband James Carnes took over day to day management of the publishing group. They shepherded the newspapers through to the Great Recession. Gayle and James’ son Michael and his wife Jennifer Carnes joined the publishing group in 2007. During 2008, the publishing group began to expand by adding the Nugget (covering arts and entertainment in Eastern Pinal and Gila counties). During 2014, the publishing group added its first digital only publication Copper Town News (covering the Arizona communities of Globe, Miami and San Carlos). The San Tan Valley Daily PRSS was added in 2016. STVDailyPrss.com is the second digital only property for Copper Area New Publishers. Our growth can serve your growth! Working with Copper Area News Publishers is easy. We are here to help you. Give us a call or send us an email and we’ll get started.

A Message from the Managing Editor I have worked at Copper Area News Publishers for more than 20 years. I trained across the desk from Gayle Carnes and stepped into the roll of Managing Editor when she retired. As managing editor, I maintain the standards begun by Mr. Seater and continued by Gayle Carnes. I celebrate our readers and offer them a voice. I don’t chase the headline. I require my staff to tell the story, drilling down below the headline. I ensure the newspapers are a positive and productive part of the community conversation. Advertisers are family. The publishing group’s owners and staff patronize its advertisers. The readers do the same! Thank you, Jennifer Carnes Managing Editor 520-425-6006 jenniferc@minersunbasin.com
