unGreatful RELEASE SHOWCASE

great. Invitations are crucial, this is something Vincent Van Great ( formally known as Great the Producer) should know all too well. His request that CopyWrite attend his UnGREATful Release Show/Halloween Party was met with poking and prodding. Though CopyWrite supports Great and his music, we simply “don’t work on Halloween” (It’s personal. Wink, wink lol). But he would not take no for an answer. With his formal request still unanswered, Great seized opportunity, catching us at a showcase a few days prior to his own. “Please come, I want you guys there. It’s going to be a dope show”, he said in so many words and added some appreciative remarks that could only sooth our egos. We changed our festive plans to be submerged in an UnGREATful night. The free show headlining Great featuring his lively counterparts of SAFS Crew, was held at Bremen Cafe on Milwaukee’s east side. The venue was field, the bar was crowded and there were no “Socialites” in site. Just pure music lovers, Hipsters and some fresh support systems, (pretty much the way it should be...and yes that was shade.)

CHAKARA BLU & QUEEN TUT

Greats opening acts, including Queen Tut with a feature from Chakara Blu, an unexpected stage act from SAFS Sunny D (unexpected because we have never seen him on the mic but know he exist), Debonair, and Channel 3. We are certain there were more, but you get the jist. The line up set the tone for Great to take the stage. The stylistically different appeal of each artist juxtaposing Vincent Van Great’s ability to make music of all tones just right. Ready. The warmth in the room was the kind you only get when people anticipate something fulfilling to take over the moment. HE was ready. His live band behind him, his DJ, Mammyth, to his left. He welcomed us to enjoy his passion, hard work and dedication with UnGREATful.

Beats dropped and he spit the lyrical montage, word play, emotion, life and the bounce factor. Every song different but every song crafted with his mark. Some rhythmic quirk with some soul. This is not opinion, it’s fact. Great’s early come up in the church, with his Hip Hop influences make that sound. This moment in time has been eventful. He was mentioned, same day, on thesource.com for his visuals for “Killer Steez”, a track off of his LP being released through Unifi Records. Blessing the room with there own fan appeal complimenting Great’s production were Unifi’s Dana Coppafeel and SAFS Blizz McFly. As he commanded his crowd he even gave a personal shout out to his support system and some special family members

vibing out in the back. It was a “stezzy” heartfelt moment. No mush at all. We could break down every song, his production and all, but we kind of feel it unnecessary. Some music just has to be listened to, some artist just deserve respect and some events you just have to be at. We at CopyWrite are GREATful (excuse the pun) to have shared in such an important moment in the life of Vincent Van Great. Thanks for the invite, Yo! To get your taste of UnGREATful check out “Killer Steez” and tell us what you think. Love & All Things Urban, CopyWrite
