Stories Stories to be

created

As summer comes to a close, we head back to work, to school and back to a regular routine. The onset of fall brings the changing of the leaves and a chance to reflect on our lives and our stories. Coquitlam is full of stories—stories told and stories to be created.

Councillor Craig Hodge

Councillor Teri Towner

Councillor Dennis Marsden

Councillor Chris Wilson

Councillor Terry O’Neill

Councillor Bonita Zarrillo

In 2016, Coquitlam will celebrate its 125th anniversary in a year-long celebration that honours the community’s rich history and sets the stage for a dynamic future. We will have tons of events throughout 2016 to mark this special occasion. From a kick-off event in January to a historical picnic and a grand finale—and with 125 block parties, an arts festival, sports events and much more throughout the year—there will be opportunities for people of all ages and interests to come together and celebrate what makes our city and our people great. We’re looking for community members who will bring their energy, expertise, and enthusiasm to help make Coquitlam 125 a great success. Do you have a passion for event planning? A flare for decorating? A can-do approach that gets things done? Or, do you simply have a love of Coquitlam? If so, consider joining us—we need volunteers to join our working groups now. There will also be many other opportunities in 2016 to volunteer at Coquitlam 125 events and activities. Visit coquitlam125.ca to find out more about Coquitlam 125, what events are coming up and how to get involved. Volunteer and be part of the celebration! Mayor Richard Stewart

PARKS Looking for some “Vitamin O” (Oxygen)? Look no further than your local park! Whether you’re looking to go hiking on a forested trail or for a spray park to cool the kids down – a Coquitlam Park has what you’re looking for. Use the Park Finder page at coquitlam.ca/parkfinder and search for the amenities you need. Get your dose of vitamin O and find a ball diamond, basketball court or a place to let the dog off-leash. Find the park that's right for you! Want to find the perfect park with the amenities of your choice? Use the City’s Park Finder tool at coquitlam.ca/parkfinder or pick up a copy of the Coquitlam Trail Maps and Guide at one of our facilities.

Be part of a world record setting event! We need the community’s help to remove all of the Bad Seeds from Mundy Park. Bad Seeds are invasive plants. They spread aggressively, kill native plants and destroy Coquitlam’s beautiful natural habitat. On October 4th and 5th we’re hosting a world record setting event to have the greatest number of people removing invasive plants at one time in Mundy Park. Get a group together or bring your friends and family and be part of this one-in-a-lifetime event! To find out more about the event and to sign up as a volunteer, visit coquitlam.ca/badseed or call 604-927-6300.

Park Spark Coquitlam Remembers at Blue Mountain Park. Join the Park Spark team at Blue Mountain Park during the first week of November to help honour those who have served our country. Paint a poppy along Veteran’s Way. There will also be other activities for people of all ages and abilities to participate in. Please check the Park Spark website at Coquitlam.ca/parkspark for dates and times. Drop-in and pay your respects with this unique and engaging opportunity.
