Jeremy DEUTSCH jdeutsch@thenownews.com It will likely be a bull’s-eye for shoppers in B.C., as a major U.S. retailer opens up across the province this week. Yesterday (Tuesday) marked the soft opening for 10 new Target stores, including the lone TriCities location in the Coquitlam Centre mall. And when the first customers filed through the doors at 8 a.m., Target Canada president Tony Fisher was expected to be the first to greet them. “It’s just an incredibly exciting time to be at
Target and have our first stores out west here,” he told the media on Monday. The president was on hand to take the media through a guided tour of the Coquitlam store. In all, 24 new Target stores will open in Western Canada by May 14, with a grand opening planned for May 24 that will be accompanied by the retailer’s first flyer. Replacing the former Zellers store, Fisher said Target would be a “one-stop shopping destination” offering everything from personal apparel and accessories to grocery products, adding most CONTINUED ON PAGE 5
