SYSTEMRAIL - Helpful Tips The SystemRail is an industrial barrier suitable for a whole range of level applications in the factory, warehouse or distribution facility. Designed with many options â&#x20AC;&#x2DC;built inâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; this system is simple and fast to assemble and when erected will give many years of service. The SystemRail is centred around the post design, which provides the option of 1, 2 or 3 rails, mesh panels & gate assemblies, with the further option of 1mtr or 2mtr post lengths, the extra components required are minimal.

When assembling your structure it is advisable to position all rails in the post before fixing in position. With all rails in place, fix at one point either on a wall or end post and ensure plumb. Locating the top of the post in the correct

position tighten up the top locking screw, now move the base of the post into position and tighten the lower locking screw. Now drill the floor and locate fixing studs. Follow the same procedure moving from post to post until all posts are in a vertical position and located correctly. Now tighten the base fixings. When fitting into a corner, use part no. 125-3, (2 way elbow fitting). Do not fit the post on the corner point. All posts are through fixings, and the corners and any variants must be made up using fittings. Positioning the post in the correct vertical position can be adjusted by

Flat roof access and fall prevention railing. Unique free standing barrier for flat roofs and inspection access. Kestrel RoofRail is designed for quick assembly and uses a combination of a rubber soled plate and a rubber weight which avoids damage or penetration to the roof membrane.

The design of the RoofRail incorporates a top bar height of 1100mm, mid rail at 550mm centres and the option of a bottom rail which can be fitted with a toe plate. The ‘Kestrel RoofRail’ has been tested to the following criteria.

Health & Safety Guidelines ‘Health & safety specialist report No 15; 1987 states that a system must be tested as a six metre run. A test load of 700 Newtons should be applied anywhere along the rail and the deflection should be no greater than 100mm from its original position without fracture or slippage at the base of the uprights.’

ContiRail - A DDA compliant modular hand rail without the appearance of a modular construction Using our unique pre-fabricated post and bracket assemblies the hand rail is secured from the underside using self tapping fixing screws enabling a smooth surface for the hand rail. The hand rail can either be formed on site using a hydraulic bender or tubes can be formed prior to despatch using Kestrelâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s tube forming service. Straight connectors and 90 degree bends are also available which insert inside the tube to ensure a smooth joint. All uprights are supplied with 2 lower rail positions to enable the same upright to be used on steps or steep ramps.

The ContiRail system has been designed to help builders and specifiers ensure that all commercial and public buildings satisfy the requirements of Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) and build regulations Pt.M : 2004

The building recommendations recommend a smooth rail with an outside diameter of between 40mm-45mm. In some installations a â&#x20AC;&#x2DC;not cold to touchâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; surface is also required.

ContiRail - Helpful Tips

The ContiRail option is designed to ensure that contractors, builders and specifiers can satisfy the non-discriminatory access requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) and building regulations Pt.M:2004. In short, this requires a smooth hand rail of between 40mm-45mm diameter, adequate spacing between the back of the hand rail and the supporting bracket and in some cases a high visibility hand rail. As the above illustration sets out, the ContiRail system includes all these features with very few components. The result is a â&#x20AC;&#x2DC;non modular lookâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; installation. The forming of the hand rail is best completed on site using a manual hydraulic bender (available for hire from Kestrel). If the joins on a formed section can be minimised

this will ensure smooth finish. The hand rail is then fixed to the brackets through the underside using self drill screws provided with the post & bracket assembly. Self drill screws are fitted using an electric tec gun (available for hire from Kestrel). When fitting a twin hand rail assembly, the brackets should be fitted to the rail when in the top hole location, and then relocated in the lower hole and fixed. This is because the clearance below the bottom rail when fixed is very low and makes it difficult to operate a fixing tool in this position. If required the assembly can be further enhanced with a powder coat finish available in a wide range of colours.

System 70 The DeluxRail Cable System is suited for balconies, walkways or step installations when an â&#x20AC;&#x2DC;anti-climbâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; system is not required. Manufactured in marine grade stainless steel, this system is suited for coastal applications and areas. When tightened to 4.1 kg (29ft/lb) a slip load of 900 kg can be obtained on each screw. Additional clamps can be installed directly under the initial load bearing clamp to increase loading capacity. The ratchet spanner should be used to tighten the screws to the required torque. We do not recommend that KesClamp fittings are welded. We strongly recommend that components 132 or 232 are always used when base plates are required, fitted so that the fixing holes are in line with the applied load.

The comprehensive range of fittings and sizes mean KesClamp can be used in a wide variety of applications, temporary or permanent.

To provide sufficient stability, whole structures must not be made from swivel fittings alone.

KESCLAMP - Helpful Tips Working with KesClamp is no real science but an excellent ex-stock solution for many applications in a wide range of industries. Ensure that you have a secure base fixing and build from there, with so many fixing options you can use the following pages to plan and create your structure with amazing speed. First select your tube size, there are 5 sizes listed (check out the size chart on page 4). Size 1 is the smallest going up to size 5, the most popular sizes are 2, 3 and 4, for standard hand railing use 2 or 3 or for heavy duty industrial applications go to size 4. For support structures use size 4 or 5, for racking frames, size 2 or 3 would be sufficient. If you are constructing a standard hand rail, look

through our pre-selected range. Kestrel have done the thinking, cut the tube, selected the tube bits and assembled the uprights. This will save you time and will also ensure that you have all the components to hand on site when you need them. You may wish to incorporate the pre-fabricated standards (401) in your structure. These use the same tube size and can be integrated into your design, when fitting the clamps ensure wherever possible that the fittings are mounted in such a way that the clamp bolt is not facing upwards. Before tightening to the required torque, just gently take up the slack, make your adjustments and then tighten all keys.

Only use the recommended fixings and tools detailed in this program Store all unfitted components in suppliers packaging until ready for fitting. When using adhesive, always thoroughly clean the parts to be bonded with degreasing spray. Apply adhesive to the internal surface to be bonded only. Check adhesive is mixed in the nozzle before application.

A fibreglass plate, impregnated with aluminium oxide grit, SureTread offers superb non-slip qualities. This exceptionally tough material is guaranteed, assists compliance with regulations and will provide you with a solution that will last for years and years. SureTread is quick and easy to install, requires little surface preparation, and can be used immediately after installation, dramatically reducing downtime. It is suitable for pedestrian, forklift and vehicle traffic areas: • A choice of coarse, medium, fine and ultra-fine grades of grit provide an ideal Suretread solution for all applications from heavy industrial areas, where mud or oil can affect the grip, to, for example, a children’s playground, where the scrapes and sores of predictable falls must be balanced against the level of grip required. • SureTread is available in stock sizes of flat sheets, strips, stair tread covers and nosings, for immediate dispatch. • Made in the UK, SureTread can be manufactured to your exact size (although transport restrictions obviously apply) and shape. It can be made to any thickness in excess of 3mm - thicker sheets providing a degree of semi-structural strength, for use over gratings for example; it can also be made with a luminescent coating and in any BS or RAL colour, enabling it to blend in or stand out from any surroundings as required. • By incorporating Phenolic resins in the fibreglass, SureTread can be manufactured to four different levels of fire resistance, including Category A - suitable for use in high risk areas: for example, the Underground.

SureTread products should be screwed to their substrate and we also advise gluing using our SureTread adhesive. To cut SureTread you will need to use a quality diamond tipped blade and to drill through it we advise using our special SureTread drill bits. Always use anti-rust screws for exterior applications. SureTread can also be installed using rivets when fixing to steel.
