RESOLUTIONS TO STICK TO... A message from the Fitness Team at ESPA Life at Corinthia For many of us the new year brings the sense of a new chapter in our lives. We make resolutions and goals and look towards the year with a fresh, fitness-focused head on our shoulders. However, as the months slip by, so do our resolutions. It’s time to set yourself a challenge for 2015 and stick to those resolutions! Whether you’re keen to lose weight, get fit, take on a physical challenge or simply discover a new you… it’s time to make your health and wellbeing a priority throughout January and beyond. Here are our top fool-proof strategies to stick to your fitness resolutions: WRITE IT AND MEASURE IT Resolutions should be both specific and measurable. Writing down goals is one of the best ways to accomplish them, and so is figuring out the exact steps needed to get there. “I want to get stronger” is a pretty common New Year’s resolution, but how exactly do you go from point A to point B? Choosing a more specific result like, “I want to add 15 pounds to my bicep curl” breaks down the goal’s components. Keeping a regular checklist will also help solidify the task and keep you on track and makes your resolution easier to stick to. ASK FOR HELP Not knowing how to do a certain exercise is no excuse to write it off completely. If you’re curious about new techniques, or find some exercises that are too intimidating, book a session with one of our personal trainers to clear up confusion


and help prevent injury, and learn to love your new moves. We are there to help, so don’t be self-conscious about asking for advice. Our tip to you is why not boost your work outs and save your pennies using your left over spa credit to book a Personal Training Session. TREAT YOURSELF When you hit those hard-earned benchmarks—50 laps of the pool, holding a handstand, the perfect pirouette, the first week you managed to walk 30 minutes a day—treat yourself! Choose a reward that won’t undo your hard work, like a manipedi or a massage, some new fitness gear or a sumptuous smoothie at The Spa Lounge. Regular treats can help you reach those milestones faster than you previously thought possible. KEEP THINGS INTERESTING If your resolution is to exercise consistently three or four times per week, it’s time to think beyond the treadmill and the weight rack. Experiment with yoga, swimming, martial arts, barre technique, kettlebells, and everything in between. The more variety in your exercise programme the more fun it will be to follow, and the more likely you’ll find something you absolutely love. Mark Anthony believes in working all three aspects into his personal training programmes whilst making the workouts fun and dynamic. Mark Anthony brings to ESPA Life at Corinthia an extensive background in Strength and Conditioning along with 5 years of work experience in the fitness industry. He specialises in accelerated fat loss, sports conditioning, and body sculpting.

The benefits of these different methods of bodyweight training include an increase in lean muscle, strength, and flexibility, as well as, a range of more fluid movement that reduce injury. WINTER HAIR ADVICE From Daniel Galvin at Corinthia From hat hair to limp locks, when winter weather hits a bad hair day can last an entire season. Here are our top tips to avoid the dry frizz and care for your hair this winter: 1. Invest in a hydrating shampoo and conditioner to add more moisture to the hair during the winter months. Including a hair mask into your weekly hair care routine is also a good idea. Try Daniel Galvin at Corinthia’s Hydrating Conditioning Treatment for glossy locks in the gloomy weather. 2. During the winter months we tend to use heated appliances more, and too much heat on the hair can cause further moisture loss. For that extra boost of moisture try your best to limit the usage, use a good heat protecting spray when a blow-dry is a must. 3. When it is cold, we often find that our scalps become more brittle, itchy, and flaky. To combat this use a good quality Argan oil to add nutrients. In addition try not to wash hair every day as the scalp produces essential oils that are naturally great for your hair. 4. Our hair colour fades faster in the winter as we wash our hair more often due to weather conditions. To keep your colour, avoid washing your hair in hot water as it dries out the hair. Instead wash your hair in lukewarm water and blast with cold water at the ends to help close and seal the hair cuticles.
