NEW HAIR FOR A NEW SEASON Hair Tips from Daniel Galvin at Corinthia It’s spring, so you know what that means... the days get longer, the weather grows warmer and your hair becomes frizzy with an abundance of flyaways you have to tame. Spring is all about putting things in order and that doesn’t involve just your home. Daniel Galvin at Corinthia have put together spring hair care tips to help your hair evolve from winter into spring. BRIGHTEN YOUR HAIR Spring takes us out of the dark and gloom of winter, into the liveliness of spring and your hair has to reflect the season. There is no better way of doing that than asking your hair colourist to highlight your hair using a technique called balayage. This technique chooses individual strands of hair in a random manner, instead of the more systematic method that foil highlights involve. The outcome is just sexy, subtle and sun kissed hair, which grows out naturally for less maintenance.

REMOVE THOSE SPLIT ENDS Face up to the scissors, your hair deserves it. We are just talking about a few snips here and there, nothing major. You’ll still keep your locks long, but without those dry, dead ends. Your hair has taken a beating with winter’s cold and dry weather, so reward it with a trim. RAINY DAY HAIR STYLES Spring calls for showers, so put on your boots, open up your umbrella and get your rainy day do. You can do a plain old ponytail, but why not get more adventurous. Try braids, fun twists, buns or tuck and rolls. Don’t worry if you have strands of hair shorter than the others, that’s what bobby pins are for. They polish up your look and keep your hair away from your face when the rain is pouring down. BE ONE STEP AHEAD OF HUMIDITY Put the fizzle on your frizz and the shine back on your hair with an anti-humidity spray. Muggy and humid months call for drastic measures, so arm yourself with an antihumidity spray. Use on dry hair post-styling and aim for the roots.

SPRING INTO SHAPE It’s that time of year again, the parks are becoming greener, and those thick sweaters in the closet are about to go into storage. It’s the perfect time to come out of hibernation and reignite your fitness regime. Here is our guide to kick off spring with a healthy start:

WHEN IT’S NICE, SLOW... GET OUTSIDE BUT STEADY

CROSS TRAIN

Spring and summer are seasons dominated by unique fitness events, many of which happen in the great outdoors. For example, now’s the perfect time if you’ve been wanting to participate in a colour run. If you’d like to substitute a day at the gym with a workout outside, try our running club!

Varying your workouts can help improve your performance and get you back into the habit of working out. By participating in a variety of different activities, such as running, weight training, hiking, bootcamp classes or biking, you limit the stress on one specific muscle group because different activities use muscles in slightly different ways.

Charging back into a full fitness schedule before you’re ready can be bad for your body, which can be easily injured after a long winter with limited exercise. Enthusiasm is good, but it has to be tempered with wisdom. For example, if you’d like to run to get in shape, ease back into your routine with shorter, slower jogs, or even some run/walk intervals. And don’t forget resistance training. Strength training thickens your tendons and ligaments, which protect your joints.

CLEAN OUT YOUR PANTRY Still have that tin of popcorn from the holidays or a box of chocolates from Valentine’s Day? Get rid of them. And while you’re at it, throw away other foods low in nutritional value, like chips, pretzels, sugary cereals and white bread.

CHANGE YOUR SOUNDTRACK Still listening to the same tracks from December? Do some iPod “spring cleaning” by downloading a fresh workout playlist to get you going.

STRETCH OUT After a winter of hibernation, the best way to prevent injury and spring back into shape is to stretch before and after your workouts. Here’s how it’s done: Warm up with 10 minutes of light outdoor cardio exercises, then do dynamic stretching—as in, stretching while moving. This includes lunges, touching your toes and walking your hands forward, swinging your legs while standing and twisting from side to side. Yoga, Pilates, and dance classes are also great ways to stay flexible. For more training tips and guidance, why not take advantage of our Personal Training Promotion. Purchase 4 personal training sessions and receive 6 sessions, a saving of £160. To book a Personal Training Session please call +44 (0) 20 7321 3050 or email espalifefitness.london@corinthia.com
