welcome to King George’s
T
hank you for joining us today at CorinthianCasuals for this FA Trophy tie against old friends Hendon. We hope you enjoy your afternoon with us. We’ve enjoyed this competition in recent years, especially the fine run we went on in James’ first season here. We’re definitely hoping to replicate that this season and whilst Hendon is a tough hurdle to overcome, we’re definitely capable of achieving great things. Whilst last week’s 0-0 draw with Leatherhead wasn’t the greatest spectacle, it was amazing to see a sell-out crowd. We actually had to turn people away at the turnstiles, such was the demand. We never want to have to do that and in a normal world, we wouldn’t be limited to 600 fans. Please purchase your tickets online via our website to guarantee your entry. The interesting fact was we were joint top of all attendances for football in the UK on Saturday. When have we ever been able to say that? It was wonderful to have the debut of the live stream to Brazil too, via MyCuJoo. We had over 1,500 viewers tune in live and many many thousands more watching it on repeat. That’s incredible and testament to our following in Brazil. Many thanks to Alfie and Michael MacDonald for providing the filming up in the gantry. Top work chaps. Speaking of Brazil, we had a lot of interest last week when TV star Datena wore one of our scarves live on national TV. Datena is a journalist who has over a million followers on Twittter, so our chocolate and pink was well publicised. On the subject of Chocolate and Pink, you might have noticed we’re playing in shiny new kits these past few games. The chocolate has been restored to its true colour and John Forrest, working with SK Kits have done a wonderful job in decking out our players in fine fabric. We’ll have replicas for sale in the shop soon enough. Enjoy the match and Vai Corinthians!

THE MANAGER James Bracken I'd like to welcome you to King George's for this important fa trophy 3rd qualifying round fixture against hendon. I hope you enjoy the match. We’ve had some good memories in the FA Trophy so we’ll be looking to replicate those today. We try to well in every game. It doesn’t matter what the competition is. If we don’t win, I’ll be feeling like I am now. We’d love a run in the Trophy. That’s the case for all the cups we play in. I was disappointed for everyone who came along to the Leatherhead match intending to watch a game of football. I like people to come along have a great day and watch a good tie. We’re in the entertainment business especially in a world where there isn’t a lot to cheer about at the moment. For some, it the highlight of their week. They look forward to Saturdays down at Casuals where they can meet up with their pals, and it’s a great place to be. But last week, between Leatherhead’s lack of ambition and our inability to follow the most basic of instructions led to one of the worst games of football I’ve been involved in. Had we even scored near the end, I wouldn’t have even celebrated, just because as a spectacle, it was terrible. It wasn’t all our own doing. I’m not openly criticising Leatherhead. They came here for a point and they got that, so good
luck to them. It’s odd to show no ambition like that though. We didn’t get off the bottom of the league for months last season. But they’ve come here, celebrating a point against us. I don’t know if I take that as a compliment. Looking at recent results for us, maybe teams are giving us a bit of respect. Maybe that’s been earned over the last month or so. As a spectacle, the game

stretching them wide but again, we’ve not done that either. We wonder why we can’t create more chances? That’s because individuals haven’t listened. For the last twenty minutes, I’m just watching a bunch of Roy of the Rovers who want to take five hundred touches and dribble until they get tackled. It’s not how we do things here. It’s not how we play. I

lacked quality and nous. The most frustrating element was if they’d just done what I’d asked them to do, we’d have won the game. Usually, they follow my instructions to the letter, but they haven’t. And we passed up an opportunity for three points. Some of the decision making I couldn’t get my head around. For example, we’re playing short corners when we know they’ve let in two from corners and yet we’re not putting balls in. They’re not in our repertoire, they’re not what we’ve worked on. I don’t know what they’re playing at. We talked about

don’t care for the individual, I care for the group. They need to realise sharpish that there’s one way you’ll go if you cannot understand that. We have an opportunity today to put it right and if we don’t, I’m going home angry again. The players need to be like that too. Enjoy the game.

THE captain danny Bracken on behalf of the players, i’d like to say welcome to you all for this fa trophy cup tie against Hendon. We’ve met a couple of times before since i’ve been here. we’ll be looking to progress to the next round. Last week, we were disappointed with a draw because there was only one team looking to win a game of football. Leatherhead seemed to be content with a draw. They retreated to the halfway line and let us have all of the possession. But we have to be better. We have to be sharper, create more chances and get the ball in their box more. We did have a few efforts that on another day, they come off and we win. Therefore, it’s disappointing that we didn’t get the three points we deserved. Disappointing also because the previous Tuesday we’ve lost 4-1 at Wingate. Another result that didn’t tell the full story. We’ve hit the post twice before they’ve gone one-up via a penalty. We also missed a clear one-on-one at one-all. Again, another day, we come away with a 4-1 win ourselves. It’s fine margins. But last week shows how times have changed. Leatherhead used to
come here and our defence would be scenes out of the Alamo. Now, they’re happy to get away with a nil-nil draw. That’s a compliment to us but we must be better and capitalise on those matches. Their keeper’s made a couple of good saves and as I said, another day,
have a competitive and competent squad. Onto today - we’ve played Hendon in the London Senior Cup on a couple of occasions in my time here and they’ll once again come here and be a decent side. They’ll surely come to win as any team should in a cup game and that’ll be better

we’re coming off the pitch with a win under our belt. Then everyone’s talking about us as a decent side. We’re not far off where we need to be. We’re not being played off the park or thinking ‘we’re miles off the pace’. We just have to be more clinical and ensure our chances are converted. It’s always horrible to see one of your players stretchered off and I know Kev will be back soon. Naturally, we wish ‘K’ the best. Robbie came on and did a solid job and we

the scouting report If nothing else, it’s already a successful trophy winning season for Hendon. They lifted the London Senior Cup last month after a lengthy delay due to Covid. Ex Corinthian-Casual Shaun Lucien scored the only goal of the game in a 1-0 win over Brentford B at Hanwell Town back in September. Hendon have a proud history in the competition and proved they are the cream of the crop in the capital once again. We last met in the league cup back in our promotion winning season, defeating the Don’s 3-1 in the Quarter Final. It’s a shame that we never got to meet in the league as Hendon were shifted sideways in the pyramid re-shuffle that same season. They now play in the Southern League Premier South - the same level as Casuals. They’ve so far picked up two wins, two draws and two defeats in their six league games. Their last road trip ended in a 1-0 loss to Poole Town but have picked up half their points on the road. Look out for former Kingstonian man Tommy Kavanagh. He’ll be a threat should he play.

Dowie had made 87 appearances for Hendon and they subsequently recieved £30,000 for him - still a club record transfer fee. Dowie went on to play for West Ham, Southampton, Palace and QPR as well as capped 59 times for Northern Ireland.
the history The club was established as Christchurch Hampstead in 1908. They joined the Third Division of the Finchley & District League, which they won at the first attempt, earning promotion to Division Two. After the second world war, the club was renamed again, adopting its current name, that of a club that existed in the 19th century. Hendon were regular winners in the Athenian League and won their first Amateur Cup in 1959–60, defeating Kingstonian 2–1 in the final. They switched to the Isthmian in 1963 becoming successful there. A brief stint in the Conference South after the turn of the millenium was followed up by a return to the Isthmian and a move to the Southern League due to restructuring.

the stadium The club moved to Claremont Road in Cricklewood in 1926. The ground was also briefly used by rugby league club London Broncos. In the mid-2000s the ground was sold to property developers and it was initially planned that the club would move to Barnet Copthall. However, the proposed move fell through and although Hendon had initially expected to leave in 2006, they were still at the ground in 2008. After leaving Claremont Road Hendon were nomadic until 2016 when they moved to Silver Jubilee Park in Kingsbury, groundsharing with Edgware Town. Corinthian-Casuals were the first opponents of Hendon in their new ground.

If any representatives of Watford FC was present at Champion Hill on Saturday he could have entertained very few qualms as to the outcome of their forthcoming F.A. Cup game with Corinthian-Casuals. To say that the Casuals disappointed would be putting it mildly and Hendon, infinitely the better side, gained ample revenge for the defeat recently inflicted on them by the Old Boys at Claremont Road. The Casuals’ performance was doleful in the extreme if one excepts a reasonably bright opening spell during which they snatched a goal to give them a brief moment of triumph. John Durham, injured at Oxford, was unable to turn out and ex-Northern Nomad Peter Jackson came into the Casuals side at left-back. But the heartening influence of Durham was badly messed and the side as a whole never inspired confidence. It was a case of survival of the fittest, and with several of the Casuals having taken part in four games in just over a week, leg weariness was much in evidence as the game progressed and was undoubtedly the cause of the almost complete breakdown of the Casuals following the interval, when Hendon, fielding five internationals. were in undoubted control, and should have scored many more goals. Yet the Casuals were on good terms with themselves when five minutes after the start a through pass from Richardson found Phillips unmarked, and with Swannell well out of goal, the 19-yearold inside-left lobbed the hall into an annty net from fully 15 yards out. This unexpected setback set Hendon alight and in the eighth minute Quail pushed the ball down the centre where Hyde spooned it well over the head of the advancing Roope for almost a replica of Casuals’ goal. Hendon is in the London Borough of Barnet and was an ancient parish in the county of Middlesex. It used to be the home for the London Aerodrome which later became RAF Hendon. The world’s first chartered business flight took off from Hendon en route to Dublin in June 1919? The passenger was Gordon Selfridge (of Selfridges Stores fame). Hendon is the home of rugby union club Saracens, at Copthall Stadium.

Mr Tristan Greaves It’s always a pleasure to welcome Tristan to KIng George’s Arena and today is no different as he takes charge of this FA Trophy fixture. His last time here at King George’s in charge of a Casuals game was in the FA Cup for our 4-0 win over Sevenoaks Town last season. Tristan comes from Godalming, Surrey and is a Senior Customer Solutions Manager at Amazon Web Services. He studied at the University of Southampton and is a real ‘techie’ at heart who enjoys retro gaming. He’s also a black belt at judo, guitarist (though we take his word on that!) and enjoys running. Today, Tristan is ablely assisted by Mr Colin Wordsworth and Mr Christopher Fernandes.
Please Respect Our match officials We couldn’t play this game without today’s officials. Respect is the collective responsibility of everyone involved in football, at all levels, to create a fair, safe and enjoyable environment in which the game can take place. Remember, we’re all human - so please give our referee and his assistants the respect they deserve.

opposition
viewpoint Press officer David Ballheimer uses his extensive knowledge of all things hendon to give us the lowdown We caught up with Hendon’s Press Officer and published author David Ballheimer to give us the perspective from North London and reveal the FIFA World Cup semi-finalist who donned the green of the Dons.
Have you noticed an increase in fans from other clubs attending this season? How do you feel about the current situation? Our crowds have definitely gone up from last season. There is a very positive attitude surrounding the club, so I think it is both this and other clubs’ fans desperate to watch live football which have caused our crowds to rise. As for the situation, the FA completely messed up the end of last season by cancelling everything and not letting the results stand – points per game deciding the title and relegation. I understood that playoffs weren’t possible, but the teams that did best were punished and those that did worst were rewarded. We had reached the threequarters stage of the season, so there was a more than fair sample to work from. As for the start of this season, I hate the lack of cup replays (but fully understand why). Unfortunately, as is always the case, the FA don’t give a hang about the competitions below the top end. Cramming in the early rounds of the FA Cup, Vase and Trophy could have been mitigated by reducing the gap between the rounds of the competition proper. The club has done some amazing
charitable work regarding mental health. Tell us a bit about this from your perspective. It was born out of the tragic death of former Hendon hero Dermot Drummy almost three years ago. Our Chairman Simon Lawrence has made the local community a very important part of the club and as a result we offered free admission not only to those with mental health issues, but also to those who are suffering from loneliness. It has been great for improving the impression the club has made on the local community, and if only one person benefited (and it is many more), then the initiative has been worthwhile. Last season had many exciting moments before its premature end. What was your favourite moment? The arrival of Lee Allinson as manager gave the whole club a huge boost. He attracted significantly better players and we played with smiles on our faces. The 2–1 victory over Yate Town at Silver Jubilee Park in early February was our fifth in a row and it moved us into mid-table. And what was your worst moment? There were a number of awful performances at the start of the 16 - CORINTHIAN-CASUALS MATCHDAY PROGRAMME
season, We were dour and unpleasant to watch and when things started to go wrong, it accelerated dramatically, such as conceding three goals just before half-time in the FA Cup at Hayes & Yeading United. We were better in the second half and should have won it in the 88th minute, when we hit the inside of the H&YU post, only for them to go to the other end, win a second penalty and go through 5–4. How well do you think you’ll do this season? I think we will be in the mix for a playoff place, but I’m not sure we will be in the challenge for the title. Have you visited King George’s Arena before today? A number of times, for work and pleasure. My first visit was in 2001–02, a defeat against Croydon Athletic, when Glyn Mandeville – a former Hendon Youth team-mate of Darren Currie, Scott McGleish and Micah Hyde, who have around 1,500 Football League appearances between them (Scott played for Hendon last season and still turns out for our groundsharers Edgware Town) – played for you. I was writing the round-up piece on Isthmian League Division 3 for the Non-League Paper. I have also seen Corinthian–Casuals play at Molesey, Wimbledon Park, Tooting and, I think, Dulwich. Your history suggests otherwise, but I thought I saw a game at The Oval, too. What’s you score prediction for this match? A good friend of mine puts every prediction down as 6–0 to their club, irrespective of opposition. I am not that rash and I really cannot make a prediction, not having watched Corinthian-Casuals play since you were our first opponents at Silver Jubilee Park. Who are the main threats for Hendon today? Depending on who is fit, anyone in green (or sky blue if we are in our CORINTHIAN-CASUALS MATCHDAY PROGRAMME - 17
away kit) is a danger! We have a number of goalscoring threats – nine players have already been on target in our 12 games (before Tuesday’s match with Farnborough). Who is your favourite player of all time (for your club) and why? Only two players have every played in a FIFA World Cup semi-final and the Isthmian League Premier Division: Paul Parker for Heybridge Swifts and Bontcho Guentchev for Hendon and Carshalton (pictured below). He joined Hendon nine months after scoring for CSKA Sofia in a UEFA Cup round of 16 tie against Atletico Madrid and scored his first goal for us with a volleyed overhead bicycle kick. A great influence in the dressing room, he is a lovely person, who would do anything for a game, including lying about being a goalkeeper to come on as a substitute at Carshalton – we trailed 1–0 at HT and won 2–1.

strange T
here’s nothing Strange about seeing Jack’s name on the Casuals teamsheet. At the game against Enfield Town last week, Jack Strange made his 200th competitive appearance for the club - only second in appearances behind Danny Bracken. We caught up with Jack to reminisce about his time at King George’s. You reached your 200th appearance for the Casuals last week against Enfield Town in a relatively short amount of time. Does that shock you? I regularly look at the stats in the back of the programme so I’m always aware of where I am in terms of appearances but it’s mad to think that I’ve reached that landmark of 200 appearances and I’m still only 22 years old. That’s a bit crazy. That’s a testament to James’ belief in you. Once you found your way into the side, you’ve made the shirt your own. I think this is my seventh season playing for James now, after being with him at Sutton too. So I’ve known him for a while and know how he works. Once he gains trust in a player, then he has no problem in starting you every week. It must be over 250 games under James in total so I must’ve gained that trust. I still have to turn in a good performance every week. If I have a couple of stinkers, I’m sure I’ll find myself on the bench.

season in men’s football. When I’d been playing youth, I’d bully centre forwards but coming up against experienced veteran strikers, that’s a different story. They give you a little jab now and again. They know what they’re doing. How do you deal with experienced players like that? What’s your best attribute to coping with big, ugly centre forwards? I’m 6’3” so I’m tall enough but I’m not built massively. I’m pretty lean for a defender. I tend not to get into physical battles. If it’s a direct game, I try to anticipate the play and get in front. It takes the risk out of defending. I can just come out of a challenge and make a pass. If you get in a physical battle, it becomes 50/50 and anything can happen from there. So I just try and read the game as best as possible and make the game as easy for myself as I can. Let’s rewind back to the start – you scored on your full debut against Guernsey (pic above). How do you remember it? It was great. I was 18 and my first season in senior football. I’d sat on the bench for six or seven games and the week before I started, we’d been beaten by three goals. James said to me after that game, that I’ll be starting on the Tuesday night against Guernsey. I was absolutely buzzing to start. I had a decent enough game and nicking a goal certainly put my name out there. It was a little left foot toe poke into the bottom corner. It couldn’t have gone much better really. You became an integral part of the squad from then on. I remember the game against Lewes when we won 3-2 and it was a war of attrition. You looked as though you’d been through a war zone by the end. Was that your coming of age? I remember it well. It was a baking hot day. The pitch was rock hard. For ninety minutes, they’d flood balls into our box. I seemed to be a magnet to it, clearing everything that came at me. It was my first
Do you model yourself on any particular player or does anyone stand out as the sort of player you are? I support QPR and when I was younger I used to go every Saturday. Now, people are going to question my answer here but Clint Hill played for QPR. Most wouldn’t really rate him but I used to love watching him every week. He’d never let centre forwards get a sniff of the ball and was bang on the money. When I say that, people laugh at me but I just loved the way he played. He was always bang up for it. Speaking of QPR players, was it surreal when you first came up against Jamie Cureton playing against Bishop’s Stortford? Yeah, it was. I don’t know how old I would’ve been when he was at QPR – probably about eight or nine years old. He’s like 42 now so in the back of my mind, I’m thinking that whilst he’s had a stellar career, I shouldn’t be letting a forty-plus year old striker score. That instinct never leaves you though and whenever he gets a chance, he’s clinical. It certainly was weird

though. You find that a lot in non-league. You do come across a lot of ex-pros and clubs who’d paid a lot of money for them. In the 200 appearances, is there any one game that stands out? The two playoff finals stick out in the memory. It’s hard to look past them. We dominated both of those games and lost on penalties. The second one hurt more because we’d already been through that the season before. I just don’t think we’re very good at penalties! Of course, we lost our most recent shoot out just a few weeks ago. Do you ever think ‘I’ll have a go at taking one myself?’ The first playoff final at Dorking, I didn’t consider it as there were plenty of others that were confident to take one and get it done. The second one against Walton Casuals, I don’t think I could’ve physically taken one. I was spent. When we were standing on the halfway line watching the penalties, I had absolutely nothing left in the tank. I could’ve easily fainted. But the next shootout we get involved in, I’m going to have to take one because I’ve seen enough to warrant me having a go. You must be due the captain’s armband in the future? I’ve had it a few times when Bracks broke his leg. It went around the team a little bit then. It’s a difficult one to gauge as our changing room is a little different to most other non-league changing rooms. We’re all really good pals. There’s no big-time characters. Everyone manages themselves well. You do need those players to tell others when they’re doing something wrong and I try and do my best. It’s never been the strongest point of my game but I do try to let others know if there’s something amiss and after 200 games, I feel there should be a little respect from my voice being heard. What do you get up to outside of Casuals? I work for a life insurance company in Reigate. I’ve been there for a couple of years now. I like to play golf
CORINTHIAN-CASUALS MATCHDAY PROGRAMME - 21
“the next shootout we get involved in, I’m going to have to take one because I’ve seen enough to warrant me having a go.” too. I’m a member at Surbiton Golf Club. This past summer, we were playing every day. I used to play cricket too but with football, it’s hard as you only get a couple of months off to play. So I don’t really commit the time to it anymore. I still enjoy watching it. We look like we have the makings of a good side here? James always has well organised sides. We’re always solid. We’ll rarely ship loads of goals but last season, we struggled to score. We had a top six side defensively but lacked creativity. The players he’s brought in are making the difference. We’ve added a bit of something going forward. We should do well this year. We’re picking up results where last season, we’ve been a little unlucky in turning in results.

First Half Leatherhead started with a flurry of attacks with the wind behind their backs. Balls were pumped up to makeshift centreforward Jerry Nnamani, usually found at centre-back in an unusual approach to the game. Casuals game plan had to change early on too when Kevant Serbony took a hard tackle in the middle of the park and had to be stretchered off. Neither side created much and Casuals continued their first half goal drought this season. Youssef Bamba and Jerson Dos Santos were the two closest to ending that, but both only having halfchances to do anything with.
Second Half The second period livened up in places with both sides having mini-spells. Matt O’Donoghue found himself bearing down on goal and only Zaki Oualah’s legs prevented the full back from scoring. Likewise, at the other end, Danny Bracken was forced into a sharp save when a swirling shot from Joe Leslie had to be turned over. Oualah was forced into another good stop when Ben Cheklit almost reproduced his 20 yard curler against Dulwich. Coskun Ekim followed up with a sharp shot just wide of the mark. But the game won’t live long in the memory and a real shame considering it was played in front of a sell-out 600 crowd. As James Bracken says “we’re in the entertainment business” and for large periods of this affair, it wasn’t entertaining.

Hendon vs Corinthian-Casuals Isthmian League (Senior Section) September 25th 1965
C
ould Corinthian-Casuals Topple the Double Winning ‘Invincibles’ of Hendon? September 25th 1965 saw two of the league’s fast starters face off against each other – Hendon and Corinthian-Casuals. Casuals came into the match sitting third in the league. Certainly a bright start to the campaign picking up six wins in their first seven matches. But Hendon had gone two better, winning eight of their first nine and sat atop of the pile. This was a Casuals side who would go on to reach the FA Cup First Round Proper and Hendon were in full trophy winning flow having won the Isthmian League and Amateur Cup in the previous season. It really was a clash of the unstoppable force versus the immovable CORINTHIAN-CASUALS MATCHDAY PROGRAMME - 25
object – at least in Isthmian terms. Perhaps that underestimated the task facing Doug Flack’s Casuals. Hendon had been unbeaten at home in the league for nearly two years. They were the league’s ‘Invincibles’. They’d not just beaten Casuals last season, but ran up a Cricket score, defeating Corinth 9-1! It wasn’t exactly made easy with the fixture schedule either; Casuals had just come off the back of their first league defeat at Champion Hill against Wycombe Wanderers. They’d played four games in just eight days and weariness had set in. But six wins in seven and already disposing of professionals, Hillingdon Borough and Windsor in the FA Cup meant Corinth were no slouches. The 12 page programme told us of
Hendon’s hectic playing schedule. The Dons had just come away with another nine-goal haul, with Ilford being the victims this time (9-3 the final score). Hendon had also found time to play a Billy Butlin’s ‘Campers XI’ at Clacton Holiday Camp, winning 5-4 before supplying the entire England Amateur side the very next day (we’ve heard a similar fact before). They followed up with a 1-1 draw against Wycombe. Six matches in nine days… there’s no talk of fixture congestion here. However, they both dug deep once again, perhaps buoyed on by the 1,326 in attendance who, according to newspaper reports, were ‘thrilled for every minute.’ Hendon were without England Amateur internationals John Swannell and Dave Hyde but were otherwise as strong as they could be. Despite Casuals having the better of the opening play, Hendon took the lead after 25 minutes. Keith Mills caught the Casuals defence off guard with a 30 yard rasper.
Just six minutes later and Casuals’ Hunt headed level. Excitement levels increased in the second half and much praise went to Chris Joy, the young centre-half who was the son of the great Bernard Joy. Facing a barrage of eight Hendon corners in succession, he led the defence with aplomb and played it out to Dave Richardson who let loose a terrific shot which tore into the roof of the net, giving Whiteaker in goal, no chance at all. With ten minutes left on the clock, Hendon couldn’t find a way back. They had done it; Casuals had defeated the double-winning champions and became the first side to topple Hendon at

Claremont Road in nearly two years. After the match, Casuals team coach and former Fulham goalkeeper, Doug Flack, (pictured) described it as ‘a great win and a great game.’ He was evidently delighted boasting ‘how proud he was of them all.’ ‘This proves we’re not a one-man team’, continued Flack. “Everyone has been talking about Peter Phillips, telling us that Casuals would be nothing without him. But we proved them wrong.” Winning goalscorer, Dave Richardson excitedly stated “If I don’t score again all season, I’ll still be happy.” Hendon went onto great things again that season, reaching the final of the Amateur Cup once again. Though they were unable to successfully defend it,
falling at the last hurdle to local rivals Wealdstone. They’d be bridesmaids in the league too, finishing second by two points to Leytonstone. Casuals would end up mid-table sandwiched between Tooting and Woking. But those in attendance that September afternoon at Claremont Road won’t ever forget what they witnessed in a true classic. One for the annals of time.

CORINTHIAN-CASUALS MATCHDAY PROGRAMME - 27
Meet the Casuals Player & Management Profiles Danny Bracken Laces: Oscar Judge Club Captain, goalkeeper and Casuals legend who has passed 400 competitive appearances since joining in 2010. Now a schoolteacher, Danny began his career at West Ham United before joining us from Tooting and Mitcham - originally on loan, but fell in love with the club and has stayed ever since. Was named Isthmian League South keeper of the year for three consecutive seasons amongst multiple club honours. Once attracted serious interest from Hoffenheim! Warren Morgan In many supporter’s eyes, Warren is the most impressive right-back to play for the club in years. Lightning pace, quick feet and a calm persona makes Warren a dangerous threat going forward yet a reliable defender when needed. Ridiculously laid back when not on the pitch. Previous clubs include Sutton and Carshalton Jack Tucker Now in his third season with the Casuals, popular full-back Jack joined the Casuals from Eastbourne Town where he received Manger’s and Player’s player of the season plaudits before joining Corinth. Was a firm fan favourite at the Saffrons and is already the same here at King George’s, playing an integral part of last season’s Premier campaign. JACK STRANGE Young defender with a promising future and scooped all of the player awards at the last complete season. Despite his age, has still notched up over 150 appearances for the Casuals. Joined from Sutton United where he captained the Youth side under James Bracken to unprecedented success. Mark Jamison Forged a great partnership
with Jack Strange last season, keeping our defence as one of the best in the league. Can play across the back line or as a defensive midfielder. A former Poole Town youth player, Mark has also played for Staines Town and Hanwell.
Trabzonspor. Since returning to the UK, the midfielder has played for the likes of Hayes & Yeading and more recently, Bishop Stortford. An intelligent player who knows how to use both feet, Coskun has notched up a century of caps for Casuals.
Andrew Mills Imposing centre-back Andy returns to the Casuals after originally playing at King George’s under previous Manager Matt Howard back in 2015. A product of the Woking academy, Andy was named under-18 player of the season before going on to make several first team appearances for the Cards.
Mu Maan Another player in the 100 club for appearances at Casuals, Mu is an integral cog in the midfield machine. Hard working and never afraid to put it all on the line. Can score some beautiful goals too. Mu has played for a number of clubs in his time including Leatherhead, Met Police and Dulwich Hamlet. You’ll hear ‘Skip It’ shouted from the terraces when Mu plays, in honour of his business and his mighty van he turns up in.
Matt O’Donoghue Full back who signed for Casuals in the Summer, making his debut against Haringey Borough in September. Formerly of Whyteleafe. Lewis Taylor Though Lewis’ natural position is in defence, once kept goal for Godalming in front of 1,700 Hereford fans at Edgar Street – and saved a penalty! Former captain of the G’s, Lewis made his debut for the Casuals against Horsham last season. Hakeem Adelakun Laces: Oscar Judge A former Crystal Palace youngster, Hakeem is a powerhouse midfielder who signed from Horsham in 2018. Hakeem has had spells at Margate, Whitehawk, Carshalton Athletic, Lewes and Havant & Waterlooville amongst others. Scored from the halfway line at Brightlingsea Regent and is alarmingly quick. Coskun Ekim Ian & Janice Tree Laces: Oscar Judge ‘Tolworth’s Iniesta’, Coskun (‘Josh’) began his career at Tottenham Hotspur where he had a two-year contract before moving onto Turkish side
robert paratore Robert joined the Casuals midway through last season. An Ex-Leicester City player who represented the Foxes in the Hong Kong International Soccer Sevens, Robbie is a lawyer with interests in human rights, sports and commercial law. The 24 year old Australian also counts Stourbridge and Telford as former clubs. Kevant Serbony A mercurial talent – strong yet skilful, Kevant originally joined Corinth back in 2015 along with Manager James and immediately impressed with his combination of strength and dazzling footwork. Has notched up over 120 appearances for the club. Scored a belter of a hat-trick against Redbridge in the FA Trophy. Had brief spells at Hastings United and Walton Casuals. Harry Carter Midfielder Harry joins the Casuals over the summer from Westfield FC, where he made over 40 appearances. Has also played for Chertsey Town.

Max Oldham Max is back! The pacy & tricky winger returns to Casuals this season after notching up over a century of appearances in his first spell at the club. Max has represented Cascadia at the CONIFA World Cup and was named player of the tournament by one newspaper. Ben Cheklit In memory of Bryan Davies Laces: Oscar Judge ‘Cheks’ is once again a fine addition to the squad. Starting life with Anderlecht and playing for several recognisable Belgium clubs, the pacey midfielder was with James Bracken at Sutton United before moving back to Belgium. Not only talented on the pitch but also with a microphone in hand – a lyrical master. Jerson DOS Santos Striker who returns to the club this season having played for Hythe, Folkestone and Carshalton Athletic between stints at King George’s. Born in Angola, this Portuguese striker spent his early playing days with Charlton Athletic, Crystal Palace and AFC Wimbledon before joining Grays Athletic in the Isthmian League Premier Division. Has also played for two Icelandic sides; BÍ Bolungarvik and Vestri Ísafjördur. Kieron Cadogan Joined Casuals before lockdown in March and we’re delighted that the attacking midfielder has re-signed. Played 21 times for Crystal Palace making his debut in 2009, scoring on his debut against Coventry City. After four seasons at Palace, he’s since starred for Aldershot, Barnet and Sutton United amongst others. Bradley Wilson This exciting attacking midfielder joined Casuals in October 2019 after signing for Lewes. Bradley scored twelve times for Whyteleafe and was rated
as their player of the season in 2018/19.
most recently Assistant Manager to Tony Reid at Westfield F.C.
Nathaniel Pinney Now in his second season at the Casuals, striker Nat began his career at Crystal Palace where he made two senior appearances before eventually finding his feet in non-league. Wilfried Zaha once named Nat as the player he could not displace in the Palace youth set-up! Pinney has featured for several clubs, notably as player of the season at Eastbourne Borough.
Dan Pringle Dan is very much a part of the success of recent years and integral to James’ staff. Dan started his football career at Crystal Palace, regularly turning out for their youth sides and playing in the FA Youth Cup. Still in his mid-twenties, he’s the youngest of the coaching set-up but with a serious knee injury preventing him competing, Dan has taken to a coaching role.
Youssef Bamba Signed from Romford in October 2020 and made an immediate impact with his assist in the 2-2 draw with Dulwich. Youssef was part of the Walton Casuals side who won promotion and has also played for Kingstonian amongst others.
Alan Winnett Goalkeeping Coach; Alan is a long serving member of the club having had involvement managing the reserves and then progressing to the first XI. Puts our keepers through real punishment during training sessions, pushing all of Casuals’ stoppers to be the very best.
Management James Bracken James already has a fantastic managerial record which includes steering Sutton United reserves to three consecutive Suburban League Premier title wins. Bracken picked up no less than seven trophies in 2015 with the U’s as well as picking up Ryman Youth ‘Championof-Champions’ in 2016. Since coming to Casuals, James has broken club records abound and steered the club to two playoff finals, a promotion and the highest level in the club’s history – all with no playing budget! Martyn Lee The former midfielder has a wealth of Football League experience with both Wycombe Wanderers, including the famous 2001 FA Cup run and Cheltenham Town before turning to nonleague football with Maidenhead Utd. He scored the winning goal in the Surrey Senior Cup final for Kingstonian versus AFC Wimbledon in 2006. Martyn was
Carly Doyle Physio who works hard getting the players back to full fitness, Carly graduated in Sports Rehab at St Mary’s in 2006. In her spare time Carly enjoys long distance running and has completed the London Marathon in under 3 hours. Travels abroad more than Judith Chalmers. Always wears odd socks. Jon Williams Kit manager and coach. In a family of goalkeepers, Jon is the younger brother of Gareth Williams and a fine stopper in his own right. Previously playing for Sutton United reserves, Williams is also registered as a deputy for Corinth. Proudly wore the captain’s armband for ten minutes in the Egri Erbstein Tournament over in Budapest last Summer.

The History Corinthian-Casuals H idden away in the suburbs of south-west London is King George’s Field, home to one of the most significant clubs in the history of world football: Corinthian-Casuals.
Today Corinthian-Casuals are the leading amateur club in English football, plying their trade in the otherwise semi-professional Isthmian League Premier Division – the seventh tier of English football. Yet they can lay claim to a heritage as impressive as almost any team in the land. The club in its modern guise was formed in 1939 as the result of a merger between two grand old amateur clubs, Corinthian FC and Casuals FC, and it was the first of those famous teams that are often credited with popularising football around the world. The Corinthians were founded in 1882, specifically with the England national team in mind. The FA suits were tired of seeing Scotland get the better of their team and, after noting that many of the Scottish internationals were taken from one particular side, Queens Park, they set about starting a team that could act as a launching pad for the England national side. In September 1882, an administrator called Nicholas Lane Jackson, known as ‘Pa’ to his players, gathered the best footballers in his contacts book in a small room on the third floor of Number 28 Paternoster Row, under gaslight in the shadow of St Pauls cathedral. The plan worked: it wasn’t long before England were handing out trouncings to Scotland on a regular basis. In fact, in those early days the Corinthians provided the entire England XI for two international matches, in 1894 and 1895. Yet they stood for much more than that. In 1884, the first-ever black international footballer – Scotland full-back Andrew Watson – chose to represent the Corinthians when he moved to England. There were characters everywhere you looked at the club in those days. The team’s captain during the late Victorian period was Charles WrefordBrown (pictured right), a charismatic centre-half who is often credited with having coined the term “soccer” when he used it as an abbreviation of “association football”.
The Corinthian team didn’t believe in professionalism or in entering league and cup competitions, but they often played the FA Cup winners in a forerunner of the Community Shield and they were the most popular opponents when the top professional teams were looking to bring the crowds through the gate. In a sense, they were the first global superstars of football. In 1904, for example, the Corinthians defeated Manchester United 11-3 in an exhibition match in Leyton, east London which remains the Red Devils’ record defeat. (pic below). Corinthians played with a stylish swagger, so much so that Real Madrid decided to adopt white jerseys in their honour. They also took football round the world, touring in South Africa, Canada, the United States, South America and across Europe, including Hungary, Czechoslovakia, Spain, Denmark and Germany. The Corinthians’ most obvious stamp on modern football is a legacy of their 1910 tour of Brazil, during which their performances so impressed the locals in Sao Paulo that they formed their own club of the same name. Corinthians Paulista went on to become one of the bestsupported and most successful clubs in Brazilian football, winning the World Club Championship as recently

as 2012, when they defeated Chelsea in the final. A further to trip to Brazil was aborted upon the team’s arrival in 1914, owing to the outbreak of the First World War. After hearing the news, the players made the decision to return home immediately. Devastatingly, more than 100 former players of the Corinthians and the Casuals lost their lives in the war. In 1939, the Corinthians merged with Casuals FC to form Corinthian-Casuals, wearing the pink-and-chocolate shirts of the Casuals, who had their own proud history. They were a strong force in the early amateur game, runners up in the first FA Amateur Cup Final in 1894, founder members of the Isthmian League in 1905, first holders of the A.F.A Senior Cup in 1907 and winners of the Amateur Cup in 1936. The newly merged Corinthian-Casuals reached the FA Amateur Cup final in 1956, with England cricket star Micky Stewart among their number, but after drawing at Wembley were defeated by Bishop Auckland in a replay at Middlesbrough. They reached the semi-final the following year, but after this high point, the club slipped into a long decline, a rare moment of success seeing them reach the FA Cup first round in 1965/66, where Watford won 5-1. 1988 was a truly historic year, as the club returned to Brazil, where they faced a Corinthians legends side featuring Brazilian greats Rivellino and Socrates. Indeed, Socrates played for both
sides, pulling on the pink-andbrown of the Casuals midway through the second half, in a moment that has gone down in Corinthian folklore. The new Millennium brought plenty more historic adventures for the Corinthian-Casuals. They visited Brazil again in 2001 and, in 2007, were invited to play at the newly reopened Wembley Stadium to celebrate 125 years of Corinthian football. Then, in 2015, they finally played the Corinthians Paulista first team for the only time in the two clubs’ history (pic below). 30,000 people turned up for the momentous occasion in the Corinthians Arena after the English amateur side had been greeted at Sao Paulo airport by crowds of singing supporters. The game ended 3-0 to the Brazilian side, but there was great excitement when Jamie Byatt swapped jerseys with Corinthians captain Danilo and played the last few minutes of the game in the white and black jersey of our Paulista brothers. It was a symbol of the rejuvenation of the CorinthianCasuals, who have gone from strength to strength in recent years under the leadership of inspiring manager James Bracken. In 2018, after two years of pushing, they achieved promotion to the Isthmian Premier – the highest level the club has reached – and retained their status despite being the only amateur team at that level of English football.
A SNAPSHOT Between 1883 and 1890, 52 of the 88 caps awarded against Scotland went to Corinthian players. In fact, in 1894 and 1895, Corinthians fielded the full England side twice… the only club to ever manage this feat. It’s acknowledged that England wear white in homage to the Corinthian strip. It’s also a fact that Real Madrid, inspired by Corinthians, adopted their white strip. However, Corinthian’s greatest contribution to the game was their missionary work; touring overseas across Europe, South Africa, USA, Canada and South America. It was on a tour to Brazil in 1910 which inspired locals to found their own team in Corinthian’s honour… that club has since gone on to be the largest in South America and the only team to win the FIFA World Club Championship twice (defeating Chelsea in 2011). Corinthians were the English club to field the first ever Black International player. The Corinthians were so good, they regularly defeated league and FA Cup winning opponents. In fact, in 1904, they defeated Manchester United 11-3 – their heaviest defeat to this day. The centenary of that match was played in 2004 with United claiming a 3-1 victory. In 1939, Corinthians merged with another famous club, Casuals to become the club that, to this day, resides in Tolworth, Surrey. Corinthian-Casuals are the only club to be honoured with a Royal Coat of Arms.
