Reddit Creator Talks Web,Career Co-founder Ohanian speaks on university book tour

Alexis Ohanian, co-founder of online forum Reddit, advised Cornell students to take advantage of what the Internet offers during a speech Wednesday. Ohanian said his first step toward the creation of Reddit happened when he skipped his LSAT practice course during his senior year of college to get waffles with his friends. Ohanian said it was in that moment he knew he needed to do something different.

“I realized in between those syrupy bites that if I wanted waffles more than practicing for the LSAT, then I probably shouldn’t be a lawyer,” Ohanian said. Ohanian and his best friend, Steve Huffman, ended up applying to Y Combinator, a program for start-ups where the idea for Reddit was formed. According to Ohanian, the two initially

Snowstorm Causes Rare Univ.Delay By ANNIE BUI Sun Senior Writer

Cornell’s Ithaca campus was closed early Wednesday morning from 3 to 9:30 a.m. due to inclement weather conditions caused by a snowstorm, according to the University. The closure affected classes scheduled before 10 a.m., with classes after that

time remaining in session. The decision to close the campus was made around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to University Spokesperson John Carberry. Carberry said the closure was implemented to protect the welfare of both students on campus and employees of the University, who live throughout Central New York and Northern Pennsylvania.

“These members of our community leave home for work very early in the morning and some have long drives to campus,” Carberry said. “If there’s a chance the roads will be bad and we won’t be able to keep the parking lots reasonably clear, we err on the side of caution.” See SNOW page 4
