Wondering where to put loved ones who want to visit? The Rose Awards showcase the variety of high quality accommodation where owners and employees go the extra mile to make their customers’ visits extra special. They cover all types of accommodation from hostels to hotels, self catering to full board, and from camping sites to guest houses.
Nominations are triggered following the annual VisitEngland quality assessment visit, with other evidence, including customer reviews taken into account. The final judging panel also looks for innovation that sets the business apart. This includes facilities or services offered to make the customer’s stay really special.
Our area boasts two winners out of just one hundred across the whole of England whose eco credentials, as well as their personal family run ethos helped them stand out to the judges. Both Pentillie Castle and Kernock Cottages pride themselves on being able to offer beautiful accommodation that is also accessible, meaning that everyone can enjoy a spot of luxury. And whilst both are fully booked over the Christmas week, there is availability for short breaks during December and plenty of cosy opportunities to share quality time in 2020.
Heather Barn is one of the cottages at Kernock, Pillaton, run by Hugh and Beth Bailey. It is a rare find – luxury cottage, the recipient of a National Accessible Scheme M3A grading, dog friendly and environmentally sustainable, with underfloor heating (powered by a biomass boiler), bamboo flooring and low energy lighting throughout. It even has its own private hot tub! The cottage is ideal for babies and small children, and the owners offer a full range of equipment to lend at no extra charge, a life saver for parents without access to a removals van each time they try and holiday! www.kernockcottages.com 01579 350435
Pentillie Castle, run by the Coryton family, offers boutique Bed and Breakfast ‘hotel quality’ accommodation in 9 individually styled ensuite bedrooms. They have just also won more awards - gold in ethical , responsible and sustainable tourism, and silver in B&B and Guesthouse of the Year from the Cornish Tourism Board. All first floor bedrooms have stunning views of the River Tamar across to Devon or of the Castle gardens. One bedroom is located on the ground floor, with a wet room facility, to enable disabled friendly access. As well as locally sourced breakfasts, the team at Pentillie are delighted to offer homemade DIY Suppers and regular Dinners in the Castle. They can also organise formal dinners or lunches for groups, or to celebrate a special occasion. www.pentillie.co.uk 01579 350 044
