HOT OFF THE BRIDAL PRESS
ON TREND ... ON TREND ... ON TREND ... ON TREND ... It’s been a frenetic year in the bridal world with masses of stunning new collections launched and many brands have big plans for 2015. The adaptability of a gown is becoming an increasingly important factor for brides as they look to make a dress ‘their own’. For 2015 many bridal brands have dresses with detachable straps, trains and sleeves to create pieces that can be altered to taste. Meanwhile, Kelsey Rose has translated this idea across its bridesmaid range with a new multiway dress available in a delectable array of ice cream shades. On occasionwear, powdery pastels are the front runners for colour of the season with subtle shades of candyfloss pink, pale lemon and milky sage green all top choices along with a strong array of blush shades and neutral taupe colours. In bridal, silver is making a comeback with brands using metallic embroidery and beadwork to create striking new looks. Sophia Tolli is among those to be using silver threads on blush and white fabrics. Boho chic has also emerged as a strong trend this season. Alfred Angelo recently launched a stunning collection featuring tiered dresses with relaxed silhouettes in a
combination of styles from full-length to waterfall hemlines. Accessories companies have also taken heed of this trend with floral pieces across the board. An increased focus has also been paid to the back of dresses and many labels have given gowns a modern twist with keyhole detailing and plunging bare backs with jewels and beadwork gently cascading down. Although attention to detail, beadwork and embellishment has been rife, many brands have also made sure they have a few plainer pieces for brides whose tastes are towards simpler styles. Ivory remains the key colour for bridal gowns in 2015, but brides are now preferring fitted bodices, full skirts and sleeves. For bridesmaids, minty shades of green and powdery sages are proving most popular and green could become the on-trend colour for 2015, knocking purple off its two year perch. Brides are also showing a preference for varying lengths and styles of bridesmaids’ dresses, whilst retaining the same colour pallette for all their maids. Head-dresses are also big for 2015 and chic boho styles for free-flowing hair are looking most popular.
If you’re actively looking for the dress of your dreams, then you need to come along to a Cornish Brides Show at Kingsley Village. Our wedding shows have been designed with you in mind and we always have the very best bridal

DESIGNER PROFILE
Claire Pettibone
The Claire Pettibone collection embodies the designer’s vision of vintage romance with an enchanted bohemian spirit. Since launching the company with her husband, Guy Toley, in 1994, the self-described true romantic has brought her feminine sensibility to fashion. After a successful decade creating luxurious lingerie, Claire introduced couture bridal gowns in 2005 and so began a real shift in wedding style. The garden, vineyard, rustic and vintage inspired weddings that have become so ubiquitous, showcase many of the designer’s creations. Claire’s gentle use of colour, couture details, European laces and graceful embroideries flutter and flow to make a woman look and feel like a goddess. As the daughter of artistic parents, it was perhaps inevitable that Claire would enter a creative field. She spent her early childhood in upstate New York in a nineteenth century home filled with antiques and art. As a young girl, she studied ballet and then focused on a career in fashion while attending Otis Parsons School of Design in Los Angeles. This exposure to design and art remains a source of inspiration for the poetry in motion that Claire designs today. Claire and Guy met in a nightclub in Hollywood and after going on a first date, it dawned on Claire that Guy matched the description of a ‘blind date’ a girlfriend had been trying to arrange. She called her friend the next day, asked what his name was, and yes, she had met the same ‘Guy’! The rest, as they say is history and the pair married the same year they opened the business. As CEO of the company, Guy ensures Claire’s visions come to fruition and together, they collaborate on all marketing and direction for the brand. Brides across the globe are enamored with Claire’s ethereal style and when Priscilla Chan chose an intricate embroidered gown for her nuptials to Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, Claire Pettibone became a household name. Each season tells a unique story and the beautiful embellished fabrics that Claire dreams, sketches and drapes are the first chapter. As the brand continues to grow, the designer maintains her signature style and upholds her standards of quality and couture craftsmanship. www.clairepettibone.com

internet wedding Wedding bells rang recently for one happy couple in Aberdeen, which were heard by well wishers in Australia and the USA when Gemma and John Millar tied the knot in front of invited guests - and the entire population of the internet at Scotland’s first ever social media wedding. Gemma and John, beat off dozens of competition hopefuls to win a £4,000 social media wedding package courtesy of Thistle Hotels in Aberdeen by tweeting their secret to a long and happy relationship. Gemma was delighted with her unique wedding experience: “Everything has been absolutely magical. I thought it might be strange to be on social media throughout the day, but it has been such a brilliant way to share our special day with everyone. One friend who should have been a bridesmaid was on holiday, but she was still able to take part in the wedding, along with other friends and family who couldn’t be here, so I’m delighted they could all be involved.”

Just as the bride seems to take precedence over the groom on their wedding day, so the mother-of-the-bride always seems to have more a important role to play than the mother-of-the-groom. But why is that? Of course, you could argue that the bride’s mum is perhaps more involved in the wedding preparations, helping her daughter choose her dress and accessories and being involved in the selection of the flowers, cakes, catering and even thebridesmaids’ dresses. Some might say that traditionally it is the bride’s parents who pay the lion’s share of the wedding costs, so either way, it stands to reason that the bride’s mum will have more prominence. In today’s modern times, however, that seems grossly unfair on all those mums out there who are about to hand over their beloved sons. And let’s not forget that the relationship between a mother and her son is extremely special. From early childhood, a strong bond is forged in which a mother becomes the object of tremendous feelings of love and affection to a little boy. A mother is there to guide and steer her son into adulthood and in many cases, she becomes the model on which a young man chooses his girlfriends and eventually his wife. It is, perhaps, one of the oldest clichés in the book that a mother will often favour a son over a daughter and a recent poll suggests that whilst most mothers may be loath to admit it, they are far more critical of their daughters than they are of their sons. How many times have you heard it said that a son can do no wrong in his mother’s eyes? Almost 88% of mothers admitted to treating their sons differently to their daughters, even though the majority considered it wrong to do so. A son is often given more leeway than a daughter and certainly gets away with a lot more than a daughter ever does. More than 50% of mothers said they found it easier to bond with a son, often finding their daughters to be more stroppy and argumentative! It is not really surprising, therefore, that when it comes to weddings, the mother-of-the groom is often far more emotional than her future daughter-inlaw’s mum. In the vast majority of cases, this emotion is tempered by an enormous sense of pride in her son, but are there many mothers-of-thegroom out there who haven’t harboured even the merest hint of disquiet over her son’s forthcoming nuptials or his choice of bride?

Mothers-of-the-groom seem to be something of a forgetten breed and if you Google ‘mother of the groom’, you will be faced with pages of websites aimed at mothers of the bride covering everything from wedding outfits and accessories to speeches and wedding day etiquette. But surely exactly the same should apply for the groom’s mum. Doesn’t she want to look her best on the day, shouldn’t her outfit be every bit as special as the bride’s mum and why shouldn’t she be given the chance to say a few words at the reception? It’s becoming fashionable for both the bride and her mother to make speeches, so why not the groom’s parents? Just as a bride relies on her mum for support and guidance throughout the wedding preparations, so too does a groom look to his mum for the same levels of support. It’s not easy to feel second best or to feel as though your feelings and opinion don’t count as much as someone elses but that is how many mothers-of-the-groom do end up feeling. But it doesn’t have to be that way and brides should involve their soon-to-be husband’s mum as much as possible. Ask for her advice or her opinion and why not take her with you to a wedding show or when you are viewing venues or choosing flowers? Equally, a bride’s mum should make contact and the two women should work together to ensure their offspring’s big day is as perfect as possible. They should also liaise as to their respective outfits to avoid any clashes. Colour co-ordinate what you are going to wear and discuss styles and dress lengths, whilst retaining your own individuality. As the groom’s mum, you have a very important role to play on the day and despite what you might think (or have been told) you are co-hosting this wedding and as such you will be there at all the key moments. Photographs, receiving line, the top table and, if not the first dance, then definitely the second! Be proud of your son and embrace his new wife into your family. Just because he’s getting married, he will still be your ‘little boy’ and remember the old saying: ‘you’re not losing a son, you’re gaining a daughter’.

saying ‘i do’ Following a major re-organisation of the Cornwall Registration Service, Nicola Le Couteur Bisson and Denise Whitehair who, between them, have more than 25 years’ experience delivering all types of ceremonies with the CRS, have set up a partnership to offer celebratory ceremonies to couples in a venue or location of their choice and at a time that suits them. The Guild of Cornish Celebrants offer ceremonies where and when the couples would like them, inside or outside, beach or garden, moorland or hotel, morning or evening, sunset or sunrise. Although the ceremonies will have no legal status, they will be personal and bespoke and fully reflect the wishes and beliefs of the couples, adding in spiritual or religious music and prose and rituals such as hand fasting as requested. With their background and experience within the CRS, they are in a great position to advise couples of the legalities required to have a legal statutory ceremony, followed by a bespoke ceremony.

THE
ICE BRIDE Winter weddings are becoming increasingly popular with couples, but are they really the best time of year to get married. And just because you’ve decided to get married in the middle of winter, doesn’t mean you have to assume the personna of an ice queen! As Cornish Brides’ best friend, Carley Wetting, explains: No-one likes a frosty bride!
Now, I might have got this all wrong, but I always thought a bride was meant to be happy on her wedding day. Surely your wedding day is the one day in your life when you are absolutely meant to radiate joy and unbridled jubilation. You’re getting married, for goodness sake, what’s not to be happy about? You’ve endured months, if not years, of endless and meticulous preparation; you’ve tried on more dresses than during the rest of all your adult years combined, you’ve tasted more cake than you could shake a stick at and you’ve sat through more meetings, telephone conversations and discussions with family and friends than you ever want to do again. And now the big day has arrived. Everything has been organised with military precision, you look a million dollars, your nearest and dearest are all gathered under one roof (despite their differences) and your beloved fiancé is patiently awaiting your arrival. Within a very short space of time, you are going to go from a ‘Miss’ to a “Mrs’ - something you’ve always wanted. So why would you not be happy ... deliriously so! OK, I concede at this point that the vast majority of brides are happy on their wedding day and I’ve yet to come across a bride who hasn’t looked absolutely beautiful and rightly so (well, maybe just the one occasion, but that’s another story entirely). Every single bride regardless of her size, budget or background is entitled to look and feel totally gorgeous on her wedding day. In fact, it should be made a legal requirement of the marriage ceremony along with the ‘I do solemnly swear ...’ bit, there should be an addendum that says ‘I look absolutely stunning’. And that, in itself, should be enough for any bride to be happy. But no, alas, it does not always work like that.

About a year ago, I was enjoying a very pleasant Sunday lunch with a couple of friends. It was a lovely Autumnal day and there was no agenda to the lunch; we had just realised it had been a few weeks since we’d all met up, so we thought a Sunday afternoon get-together would be a good idea and it was. Lunch was delicious, the wine was flowing and the conversation was light-hearted and entertaining. However, at some point during that very nice afternoon, I agreed to be one of my friend’s ‘plus one’ at a wedding she had been invited to a couple of weeks later. I confess, the actual details were a little sketchy at the time, but I recall that she had said she would email me the details, so I didn’t pay an awful lot of attention. True to her word, she did email me a few days later and her email contained an attachment, a copy of the actual wedding invitation that she had received from the bride-to-be’s parents. It was a very formal invitation, beautifully produced and it was only as I was scanning the invite that I noticed the date of the wedding ... December 21. A wedding in the middle of winter, just 4 days before Christmas surely I would never have agreed to go to such a thing. I re-read my friend’s email and it was clear that I had and worse, she was so grateful to me for agreeing to go as she had been dreading going alone, especially as the wedding was taking place in Yorkshire! Now, I should point out at this stage, that I live in West London and my parents live in Cornwall. I have always spent Christmas with my family and I usually like to drive down a few days before Christmas to spend time with the family, helping out with last minute preparations and generally getting into the festive spirit. I couldn’t possibly go to a wedding in the depths of Yorkshire just 4 days before Christmas.
Why would I even want to? But that wasn’t the worst part. As I read my friend’s email, it became apparent that I had not been her first choice of ‘plus one’. Far from it, in fact, as it appeared she had asked just about everyone else she knew before she finally (and clearly in some degree of desperation) asked me. Obviously, everyone else she’d asked had been massively quicker off the mark than I had and managed to come up with a plausible excuse as to why they couldn’t accompany her. No doubt simply that the wedding was in Yorkshire, 4 days before Christmas. It was right there - a perfectly ready-made excuse, virtually handed to you on a plate, but I had completely missed it, no doubt because I wasn’t paying attention at the time, concentrating instead on my roast beef and two veg! I felt the despair start to wash over me as I saw my wonderful traditional Christmas plans start to fade. I love Christmas and I adore spending it with my family. I start my Christmas countdown around the end of July and I really look forward to it. Now my plans were in disarray and I was mortified. I quickly called me friend to discuss the situation. The upshot of that conversation was that it was her cousin who was getting married to someone he had met on holiday the previous year. My friend had never met the bride-to-be, but she was close to her cousin and worse, I knew him too and liked him very much. I also knew his parents, my friend’s Auntie Joan and Uncle Ron and was very fond of them also. The bride - Lucinda (a warning bell should have sounded at that point) worked in PR in London (second big bell) but her parents lived in Yorkshire, so that was where the wedding would be. Apparently, Lucinda had always wanted a winter wedding and the happy couple were flying off to Aspen the day after the wedding for a snowy Christmas honeymoon. Well good for them. I would be battling my way down the M6, M5 and the A39. It wasn’t as if the wedding was taking place somewhere accessible like Harrogate, Leeds or Sheffield. Oh no, we were going to Thwaite in the North Yorkshire Dales. Accordingly to my map, there wasn’t even a main road to Thwaite! Let’s just say that I was not a happy bunny. But having agreed to go, I couldn’t let my friend down, even though many others before me had done exactly that. No, I resolved to make the best of a bad situation and I attended the nuptials and Lucinda and Robert in Thwaite. The journey was horrendous and the weather was not much better, although it was not the kind of wintry scene I think Lucinda had long been dreaming of. The skies overhead were murky and grey, it had been raining heavily all week with the threat of more to come throughout the day and it was blowing a hooley. Thwaite itself was picturesque (or would have been if the weather had not been so appallingly dreary) and my B&B was clean, comfortable and cosy. The church was freezing and having virtually tip-toed my way up the near sodden path, my feet were feeling decidedly damp. It had occurred to me on the drive up that whilst winter weddings are becoming increasingly popular with couples, I don’t think they are well suited to your guests. I mean what on earth do you wear to a winter wedding? You can’t pitch up in a flimsy or floaty little number with nude sandals and a pretty little fascinator perched jauntily atop your recently coiffed hair. You need to be practical and warm, neither of which really cut the mustard when looking for a wedding outfit. I had decided on a longish purple skirt with black boots (not new, hence the damp feet). I managed to find a pretty cream top with a little lace detailing (quite weddingy, I thought) and long sleeves and a loose fitting purple cardigan, again quite lacey. But I’m sorry, there was no way I was going to this wedding without my big coat; a chunky grey mohair. I softened it with the addition of a long lilac silk scarf, but I still did not look as though I was going to a wedding. Christmas shopping maybe, but not a wedding. Sitting in the cold church, I was thankful for my coat and my black leather gloves and looking around the other guests, it struck me that we’d all had the same idea. Clearly everyone had checked the weather forecast and decided that pretty wedding apparel needed to be concealed under heavy winter coats. There were a few hats on show and I did spot one fascinator, but it was held in place with so many pins and clips that the effect was somewhat lost. Some guests
were wearing scarves and many sported gloves. My friend, who I had met up with on my arrival in Thwaite, was also dressed for winter in a pearl grey trouser suit, teamed with a peach coloured shirt, but worn under a dark grey coat. And that’s the other thing; most winter clothes are generally dark in colour. We invaribaly chose grey, black or blue coats - although I do recall a rather splendid multi-coloured pink and purple coat I had in my early teens; it was magnificent but I don’t think such a garment would really suit a professional woman in her early thirties. No, much better a nice grey mohair - smart, practical and warm! The groom and his best man were seated on the front pew and I could see, even from my position halfway down the church that both were freezing. The bride’s mother was resplendent in a cream woollen suit with brown shoes and bag and an oversized hat that surely obscured the view of everyone in the three rows behind her. The groom’s mum was in green; a lovely dress and matching coat with a woollen shawl for extra warmth - sensible lady. Whilst I was scanning the guests to ascertain how many had opted for style over warmth, the organ struck up and Lucinda swept gracefully down the aisle on her father’s arm. There was an audible gasp - the ice queen cometh. She looked amazing and I could see immediately just how much time and effort she must had put in over the years to first dreaming about her perfect winter wedding and then planning and executing it. Her gown was huge ... a massive white merignue laced with fur trimmings and twinkling crystals. It positively swished as she sashayed down the narrow aisle. The bodice was adorned with hundreds of sparkling jewels that caught the light at every turn, although to be fair, there wasn’t a great deal of light in the church, so the effect was lost somewhat. She wore a fur wrap with a high neck and a cossack-style fur hat completed the outfit. Lucinda herself was a real beauty, her gorgeous brunette curls had been coiffed to perfection, her complexion was flawless and her make-up was immaculate. But she didn’t smile. It was though her face had been set under the perfectly applied make-up; there was no movement, even as she recognised people in the congregation. Even as she came to stand beside her beloved and as she turned to hand her bouquet to her maid of honour, there was not so much as a flicker of a smile. And I’m sorry to say that Lucinda remained in her role of ice bride for the remainder of the day. I did not see one photograph where she looked anything other than icy and aloof. Throughout the wedding breakfast, at which she ate and drank nothing, she sat stony faced. Don’t get me wrong, she wasn’t rude exactly and I did see her talking to several of her guests. She cuddled up to Robert, they held hands, they kissed (well they touched lips). But she just did not look very happy, although perhaps she did not even realise it. Maybe she has been taking lessons from Victoria Beckham, maybe she felt that being all smiley and gushily happy is not cool and trust me, Lucinda was most definitely cool ... to the point of being positively frosty, in fact. Back at the hotel, the wedding guests did relax more and once their winter coats were safely stowed in the cloakroom, it was possible to admire their wedding outfits more closely. But for me, the wedding lacked warmth and I’m not talking temperatures here. It was a very formal ‘do’ that had none of that happy spontaneity that usually happens when family and friends come together. The bride looked beautiful, as was her right, but I think beauty comes from within and a bride, more than anyone, should radiate happiness. She should positively glow on her wedding day. Alas, Lucinda did not glow. Perhaps a little more inner glow would have helped thaw that icy exterior.

Your Wedding Wine Wish List Busily planning your perfect wedding? Somewhere on that long to-do list is the word ‘wine’ and if you’re lucky enough to be in the position to be able to buy in your own wedding wine, where do you start? Well, right here of course. Together with our friends at Rude Wines, we’ve put together a few points you might want to consider. Allow us to present your Wedding Wine Wish List.
Sparklers Every wedding needs a good sparkler for the toasts and maybe also to serve as your guests arrive at the reception and you’ve disappeared to do the photos, which always take much longer than anyone anticipated. Your guests will need something fizzy to pass the time and we’re not talking warm lemonade. Although Champagne is traditional in such circumstances, this might blow the budget for some, but not to worry, there are plenty of excellent substitutes available. A great Prosecco will do the trick nicely or if you’re after something French that won’t leave a massive dent in the bank balance, how about a Cremant de Bordeaux?
Red Wines You really need to think about the food you will be serving your guests. There are bound to be a selection of courses that vary in richness, but unfortunately your budget probably won’t stretch to offering a selection of wines to match each course. In this case, a medium-bodied red will be your best option - something with some tannin to complement red meat, but also light enough to go with white meats and vegetables. In our opinion, a Spanish red would be perfect - it’s enjoyed the right amount of sunshine to hit the popular fruity note, but is also light enough in body and alcohol to be easy-drinking for all that wedding reception quaffing.
White Wines We’ve all been there. You sit down for the wedding breakfast and the wine on the table looks a bit ‘cheap and nasty’. There’s nothing wrong with choosing a good value wine and, in fact, we would wholeheartedly recommend you go with a crowd-pleaser for such an occasion. But don’t automatically go with the cheapest. Just as there are loads of fantastic cheaper wines, there are also plenty of dreadful ones too and this is where advice comes in handy so find a retailer or supplier that offers a wedding service. More often than not, they will be happy to provide you with a selection of tasting samples to try before you buy, ensuring you don’t end up with something that will induce the worst hangover imaginable. But what types of white wine go down well at a wedding? Sauvignon Blanc is always a popular choice, but you might want to try something a little bit different. White wines from the south west of France offer a pleasing palate cleansing experience or Verdejo from Spain is often lighter on the acidity - great if you want a softer wine that will appeal to the masses.
Glasses A quick note about the vessels from which you will be drinking said wine - make sure you have some. Of course most venues will provide you with glasses, but this might not necessarily be the case. If not, check to see whether your wine supplier can hook you up with a glass hire firm, like the Rude Wines wedding service very helpfully does.
Wedding Worries Finally, you’ll have enough of these on your plate, so let’s not add wine to the list eh? If you’re buying wine for a wedding, we think you’re entitled to certain wine buying privileges such as the afore-mentioned try before you buy. But why stop there? Rude Wines can offer your own personal wine-tasting before the big day as well as giving you 20% off your chosen wines and free delivery. You even get a free bottle of Champagne although we highly recommend you do not share this with your guests - they’ll have more than enough delicious wine to drink to enjoy on the day, so keep this one for later when the two of you are alone! www.rudewines.co.uk

CHRISTMAS Getting married in winter is growing in popularity and the number of couples choosing to marry towards the end of the year is growing at a faster rate than at any other time of the year. Not surprising really, when you think of the dramatic lighting, log fires and twinkling decorations. The new winter ranges from The Hanging Lantern Company give couples more opportunity than ever before to create a festive fairyland with more than eighty new products, in four different colour themes. So, if you’re organising a winter wedding, first you need to identify what are the things that you love most about winter. Is it crisp frosty mornings with a sprinkling of snow? Do you yearn for glowing embers and rich colours? Or do you embrace the fabulousness of Christmas where everything sparkles? Once you’ve decided what you love best about winter, The Hanging Lantern Company has all manner of hanging pendants, bunting and table decorations that will transform your venue and allow you and your guests to throroughly embrace your winter or festive wedding celebrations.

Christian Michael Photography Christian Michael Photography are finalists in the Wedding Photographer of the Year category within this year’s Cornish Brides Awards. We caught up with Christian and Samantha to chat about all things photographic.
For those who don’t know you, could you briefly introduce yourselves? We are established and professional wedding photographers specialising in high quality imagery. We shot our first wedding in 2004 and haven’t looked back. Since then, we’ve won a variety of awards including being listed within the top 10 of UK wedding photographers featured in a national magazine. We now have the pleasure of shooting 60-70 weddings a year. Can you describe your style and where do you draw your inspiration from? Our style is very natural, relaxed and documented in a quirky and vibrant way. Without sounding too clichéd, we get our inspiration from the day itself; each wedding is different from the last and even by shooting in the same location, it’s hard not to take inspiration from our clients. Add this to our constant desire to produce something new and exciting each time, which allows us to produce a unique set of images for each and every couple. Why should couples choose you as their wedding photographers? We truly care about every single couple and we spend the build up to the wedding getting to know them and their personality. By the time the wedding day arrives, it’s like meeting up with old friends which allows us to capture their unique wedding story; one they can look back on and fall in love with again and again. Our dedication to each couple goes way beyond the end of the first dance, as each picture is then skilfully edited and enhanced to ensure that every image is perfect. You’re privy to some really personal moments during a couple’s special day, how do you capture these without intruding? It’s hard to explain, but our clients really trust our expertise and experience and because of the rapport we’ve built with them in the lead up to their wedding, by the time the day comes they are relaxed around us. We work in a very unobtrusive way and are sympathetic in times where it is needed, and a bit of common sense goes along way on a wedding day. What do you like most about capturing a couple’s wedding? Everything! We adore all the special moments; a bride’s father seeing her in her dress for the first time, the groom’s face as he sees his bride walk down the aisle, the couple’s faces and body language during the ceremony, the reactions when the guests get to greet the newly-weds and of course the range of emotions during the speeches. We also love all the little moments and details in-between that really make up the story of the day. Have wedding photography trends changed over the years? I had the chance to assist a 'traditional wedding photographer' during my work experience from school back in the late 90's. He worked on medium format film and as far as I recall, he would shoot about 8 rolls of film which each had just 12 shots on. With the advent of digital photography it allows the modern photographer, particularly ones, who like ourselves who shoot in a photo-journalistic style, to shoot many more images (sometimes several thousand) which help capture those intimate moments and puts much less focus on posing a 'safe shot'. We have (thankfully) seen the selective colour technique come and go. Leaving just a single item in colour whilst the rest of the image is in black and white was something that never got us excited! More recently there seems to be a shift towards an 'Instagram style' filter being applied to wedding images. Again, this is something that we steer clear of. We firmly believe it’s something that will date, just like selective 116
Cornish Brides
colour did and I don't think you can beat a perfectly exposed and carefully edited colour image or classic black and white shot. The majority of brides and grooms spend hours agonising over their colour scheme and flowers and to have a coloured filter applied doesn't reproduce this accurately. One thing you’d like every bride and groom to know before their wedding? From a photographer’s perspective, trust them! If you've booked a professional, they know what they are doing and will capture your day without the need for huge 'shot lists' or massive spreadsheets. From a personal perspective, don't let anything stress you on the wedding day and enjoy every moment. Is there a place where you would love to shoot a wedding but haven’t yet? We've had the absolute pleasure to shoot at some amazing locations across the UK and abroad, but we are always keen to photograph at new venues. For us, the venue is just one part of a wedding day and it’s the combination of all the suppliers, our couple, their friends and family that make the wedding day unique. Any tips for couples who are looking for the perfect wedding photographer? Entrust in a professional! Since digital SLR cameras have become more affordable, we’ve noticed a lot of pop-up photographers offering batch editing alongside poor technique, skills and professional practices. This has meant that a lot of couples are unhappy with their final images or even fail to receive any at all! We would also suggest looking very carefully at what a photographer actually offers, both in coverage and attendance for the day, as well as the final product. In your opinion what makes Cornwall such a special place to get married? Cornwall is special for many different reasons. A lot of our couples are from out of the county and they choose to travel here to get married, mainly for the beautiful yet dramatic landscapes, those gorgeous beaches and, of course, our fabulous suppliers and unique venues. Cornwall has become something of a 'destination' wedding location. With some of the most amazing golden sand beaches and crystal clear waters, we've had couples tell us that it looks like their wedding was held abroad. We are fortunate enough to travel throughout the UK with our photography, so work with many suppliers across the south west predominantly, but the friendliness and professionalism of the Cornish suppliers is what we love best. We firmly believe that the wedding industry in Cornwall could give any county in the country a run for its money! And finally, have publications like Cornish Brides helped your business? Hugely! Since becoming finalists in the Cornish Brides awards this year, we’ve noticed an increase of visitors on our social media pages and the odd extra booking too! So, thank you Cornish Brides.
