Music lovers gather for Jammin for Hospice Marc Benoit, Special to TC Media For the fifth year running, Jamming for Hospice brought the Christmas cheer to the Cornwall community. The annual fundraiser for the Cornwall Hospice took place the evening of Saturday, Nov. 26. A wide range of musical talent was on hand to keep the crowds entertained, while a delicious meal was provided, along with a raffle, and a silent auction. The event also included a number of local vendors selling their artisan crafts. “I founded this event in 2012,” said Patti Edwards. Edwards was inspired to start the Jamming for Hospice fundraiser five years ago, when her friend, Paul Herrington, was diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver. Herrington was able to play at the November fundraiser, just weeks before he passed away on Christmas day. “He’s the reason we do it every year.” “Tonight has been going well, it’s been a
long day, but people are having fun. We are getting a decent turnout, and the night isn’t over,” said volunteer Liz Gagnon. The Carefor Cornwall Hospice is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to providing a high standard of end-of-life care to patients. The Hospice provides patients with support services for them and their family, visitations, as well as medical treatments. The organization relies on generous donations from the community to be able to provide their services to those who need, and deserve it. “I think Patti Edwards is a force of nature. She has a really great heart for Hospice, and this event is a lot of fun. The music is great and the food is great, and it’s a big, bold fundraiser,” said event goer and City Councillor Bernadette Clement. “I’d like to thank my committee, all the volunteers, and of course the Hospice. Even though this event is for them, they are very helpful also,” said Edwards.
Jammin’ for Hospice volunteer Marlene Baker entertains the crowd at intermission with a game of trivia. The Jammin’ for Hospice fundraiser has helped raise funds for the Hospice for the fifth year in row (Marc Benoit/ Seaway News).

CORNWALL, Ontario - When Kizito Musabimana was 11-years-old he witnessed one of the worst atrocities of the 20th Century. He and his family survived the Rwandan Genocide of 1994. However, Kizito says that for years after that he did not feel like himself and could not talk about the demons he was struggling with because of the stigma surrounding what is commonly known now as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

Winchester Hospital to offer Medical Assistance in Dying
WINCHESTER, Ontario - The Winchester District Memorial Hospital (WDMH) Board of Directors approved a motion to allow hospital doctors to offer Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID). “This decision is the result of a lengthy process that began with the change in Canadian law last June, followed by planning involving physicians, staff, patients, families, our Ethics Committee and legal counsel,” notes Marieke vanNoppen, Board Chair. “This is a new service that WDMH is offering to the communities we serve, but it’s important to note that a component of MAID is the right for health care providers to choose not to be involved,” she added. “Anyone at WDMH can choose not to be involved in MAID and that choice will be respected.”

Alex Tourangeau wins his battle with childhood cancer Marc Benoit, Special to TC Media
CORNWALL, Ontario - It was like a scene right from Hollywood boulevard. Supportive fans huddled by the front entrance of the venue, while the limousine pulled up in the parking lot. Soon, the man of the hour stepped out, accompanied by family, friends, and a bouquet of balloons. For everyone at the Royal Canadian Legion on Sunday, Nov. 27, Alex Tourangeau is their hero. It’s been three and a half long years for the Tourangeu family, but today, they finally made it. After battling Leukemia since July of 2013, Alex Tourangeau got to finally ring the bell, signalling he is done treatment. “Today we are celebrating Alex’s end of treatment,” said mother, and local organizer, Cheryl Tourangeau. “On Thursday the 24th he rang the end of treatment bell, so now he is done. There is no evidence of disease, and he is looking fantastic, he is finished with 1152 doses of chemo, 27 lumbar punctures, 10 sessions of radiation, and blood transfusions and...it’s been a long road, but we made it!” Alex’s friends and family had the opportunity to celebrate with him Sunday afternoon. By 1 o’clock, over 50 people had assembled at the Legion, with many more expected to drop in before 3 p.m. A cake decorated with Captain

From left, Chantale Langabeer, Cheryl Tourangeau, Madison Monk, Jeffrey Hu, Matthew Dubeau, Alex Tourangeau, Matthew Flaro, and Claude Tourangeau (Marc Benoit/ Special to TC Media). America, fitting for Alex, was provided, along with other refreshments, and a slideshow displaying the Tourangeau’s long journey since 2013. But, for the Tourangeau’s, the battle against childhood cancer is not over. “We’re still going to do fundraisers for Ronald McDonald House. In May we’re going to have
fundraising and make childhood cancer only something in history textbooks.” For Alex, today was less about the uphill battle he has fought for three and a half years, and more about celebrating the life he has ahead of him. And, that life includes dropping the puck at the National’s game against Port Huron on Dec. 4 at 1 p.m.
bowling going on at Nativity Bowling Lanes,” said Cheryl Tourangeau. “Because childhood cancer is so underfunded and under-researched. Everything goes into adult cancers, and we need to focus on cures and prevention and medicine for the kids. The kids all get adult chemo, and that’s just too hard on their bodies. We need to keep raising awareness and keep

Holiday spirit aplenty at United Way Wine & Cheese Marc Benoit, Special to TC Media
CORNWALL, Ontario - The Christmas spirit was alive and well for the United Way on Saturday, Nov. 26, while they hosted their annual Wine & Cheese fundraiser at NAV Centre. “It’s a great evening for a great cause. This sort of event brings out the community,” said event goer and City Councillor Justin Towndale. “Everyone likes to get together and enjoy the holiday spirit.” The Wine & Cheese tasting was the main event, followed by a dance party with a live DJ and cash bar. Event goers had the chance to bid on items in a silent auction, and were automatically entered into a draw for the chance to win $1000 or a designer Christmas tree, in addition to other prizes. “It’s a spectacular evening, everyone is having a wonderful time,” said United Way Executive Director Lori Greer.“This evening would not be possible without all the people who are attending, all
of our sponsors, everyone who contributes, who give to the silent auction, and our volunteers. All of those people are super heroes for the United Way. Last year the event raised just under $40,000 and it is expected to do just as well this year. Saturday night’s event was just one component in the annual United Way campaign, with the goal set once again at $700, 000. Currently, the campaign is at 25 per cent of the intended goal. The campaign ends on Dec. 16. “We’re doing well but we still need people’s support, so if you can make a donation we would really appreciate it,” said Greer. People interested in donating to the United Way can do so by contacting the organization itself. Donations to the United Way go directly into funding programs at agencies across Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry. Many agencies rely on the funding from the United Way to be able to deliver programs to those most in need in our community. The United Way Wine & Cheese roughly over $51, 000 this year.
Lori Greer, executive director for the SDG United Way, and the volunteer committee, Ray Brunet, Angie Baker, and Karen Brunet worked hard to organise another successful event for the United Way’s annual campaign (Marc Benoit/ Seaway News).

Of those surveyed by the Save Char-Lan group, 82 percent of parents said that they would pull their child out of the UCDSB rather than send them to a school in Cornwall. Additionally, there is roughly $34, 000 worth of bursaries given out to graduating Char-Lan students every year and it is unclear if that money and the opportunities that come with it will stay in the school board if the school closes.

WILLIAMSTOWN, Ontario - Recently, South Glengarry resident and Save Char-Lan representative Todd Rozon presented a plan to the Accommodation Review Committee (ARC) that would save Char-Lan District High School and Williamstown Public School. Under the Upper Canada School Board (UCDSB)’s Peer Accommodation Review, CharLan would close with its hundreds of students being bused to Cornwall to attend St. Lawrence Secondary School or CCVS. The ARC meetings were organized by the school board to hear the response from the community to their proposed school closure plans. Essentially the plan Rozon presented at the ARC meeting would involve a merger of CharLan, Williamstown Public and S.J. McLeod Public schools into one K-12 school. Under this plan, Char-Lan and Williamstown Public would merge into one Grade K-12 school. S.J. McLeod Public School would close with its students being sent to the grade school site of the new merged school. Rozon noted in his presentation that CharLan and Williamstown Public are merely 250 feet apart as is. He went on to point out that if the UCDSB’s goal was to save costs and reduce empty spaces in its schools, that this plan did that. Williamstown Public School and S.J. McLeod has a combined space utilization of 171 percent with 364 students, with Char-Lan at 78 percent utilization with 323 students. Combined the schools would be using 110 percent of available space thereby eliminating all empty seats in that feeder group. “Realistically, it is a pretty simple thought process,” Rozon said. “We polled the parents of students and 90 percent found this solution favourable.” Rozon’s presentation showed that this plan was favourable for several other reasons. One was the high academic standards produced at schools in the Char-Lan feeder group. Char-Lan is consistently above the UCDSB average and the provincial average in EQAO Literacy Testing and Char-Lan’s graduation rate

Sounds like a Christmas classic Nick Seebruch nicholas.seebruch@tc.tc
CORNWALL, Ontario - Many are familiar with Frank Capra’s Christmas Classic It’s a Wonderful Life (1946) starring Jimmy Stewart, but what some may not know is that the original cast did a radio play of the movie two years after the original’s release. Now, a group of thespians here in Cornwall are taking the radio play to the theatre stage for all to enjoy. “I’ve seen this show being done in other places,” said cast member Jamie Carr. “I decided that it would be something great to do here and I wanted to do it for the Cornwall Community Hospital Foundation.” There will be three microphone’s on-stage for the imagined radio studio and a foley artist. For those who do not know, foley artist is the professional term for a person who makes sound effects for television, radio or stage productions.
The foley artist for this production will be Cameron Forrester, a student at St. Joseph’s Catholic High School. “He’s a really creative guy,” said Carr. “When I asked him if he knew how to make a machine to make the sound of wind, he said he already made it. A lot of these effects are really just the actual sounds.” Some of the other sound effects that will be shown live on stage will be a trunk opening to simulate the opening of a door, a bag of broken glass to simulate glass shattering in the famous “By the light of the moon” scene and the dragging of paper to simulate wind. The play will be performed at St. Joseph’s High School on Saturday, Dec. 17 at 7 p.m. and on Sunday Dec. 18 at 8 p.m. Tickets are available at the Caisse Populaire or through Jamie Carr. All proceeds go towards the Cornwall Community Hospital.

EOTB - MAKING IT WORK
New level of patient care coming to CCH Nick Seebruch nicholas.seebruch@tc.tc
CORNWALL, Ontario – The Cornwall Community Hospital (CCH) is reaching to the forefront of patient safety and care with the introduction of their new electronic patient file system. “This is a computer, but it is also a tool, like a stethoscope,” explained Dr. Geoff Heseltine. “This will help us provide better and safer healthcare.” Developed by the Kansas based company CERNE, and is what Dr. Heseltine described as “Google for patients.” When the system goes online this Thursday, anyone who goes to the CCH will be entered in with their medical information accessible to their doctors and other caregivers. For example, if a patient is admitted to the hospital emergency room, that information would be on file.; as would information on prescribed medications, allergies, temperature and blood pressure. The system goes even further however, because rather than just actively storing data for doctors, it also can present warnings and alerts
that they should be aware of. If a patient has an allergy to a certain type of food, or if one of their medications might clash with a type of anesthetic, the doctor and staff will be told about it. “This system will provide us with a roadmap to treat patients and illnesses,” said Dr. Heseltine. “It will help us identify the best treatment and allow us to customize them for our patient’s needs. At the end of the day however, it’s just a tool and the patient is a priority and you can’t let a computer get between you and the patient.” Additionally, this system will allow the hospital to share information with local family doctors in the area. The record of a particular ER visit or hospital stay can be faxed to the patient’s family doctor at their request. All of the staff are well aware of the new system and have received training on it to try and make the transition as seamless as possible. Nurses have received 25 hours of training to date. CCH has also taken into account the risks and vulnerabilities that are inherent with technologies. In case the system is ever down for scheduled maintenance or unexpectedly, there is a back-up system that is offsite and hosted on a different server.
Nurse Lynne Larochelle enters patient Matt Perreault’s bracelet data into the new electronic system as Dr. Geoff Heseltine supervises (Nick Seebruch/ Seaway News).

On October 27, 2016 six individuals graduated from the Tri-County Literacy Council’s Daycare Worker training program. As part of the program, participants had the opportunity to visit the Richelieu Daycare, Early Years Centre, Cornwall Public Library (children’s department), and Job Zone. Various guest speakers were brought into the classroom to provide insight into the field of childcare. Nutritionist, Stephanie Cyr, supplied information on proper dietary needs for young
children. Play Therapist, Jordan Sombritzki, spoke of her role in helping children with various emotional traumas. Stéphanie McDonald explained how to become a licensed daycare with the City of Cornwall. Frances Odair, a local retired teacher, shared the importance of the formative years in a child’s development. In addition, learners completed a project whereas they developed a 5-day Meal Plan and an example of five age-appropriate activities. Students also wrote a one-page essay on a children’s topic of their choice. Congratulations to all graduating students!

Holiday spirit in full swing at Justice Building Shannon Ferguson, Special to TC Media CORNWALL, Ontario - The community Christmas tree at the Justice Building on Pitt Street lit up the night on Friday, Nov. 25 as the city held its inaugural tree lighting ceremony, part of its push to kick off the holiday season. Ella Hopkins, 9, was in attendance and won the honour of lighting the tree which will stay alight throughout the holiday season. “I was super excited, so excited that I was almost in tears,” she exclaimed!
She added “The night was really fun and getting to light up to tree made it extra-better!” A large crowd of over 50 people gathered in the courtyard of the Justice Building to the tune of live music and kept warm with hot chocolate on the brisk evening. Even Santa made an appearance, handing out candy canes and mingling with the crowd. Eric Richer, who was attending the tree lighting with his two children, ages 6 and 3, was impressed with the evening. “Cornwall is a great town and the people are
always out supporting events like these and I really commend the city for putting this on.” Food, toys, and monetary donations were accepted on behalf of Sparky’s Toy Drive, the United Way, the Salvation Army, and the Agapé Centre. “I wanted to surprise the kids with a bit of Christmas cheer and bring them out to see the tree get lit up but to also support Sparky’s and the firefighters,” said Richer. While the tree has been lit up throughout the holidays for a few years now, this was the first year an event was held to officially celebrate the
lighting. The display was made possible by contributors including Black & McDonald, Cornwall City Press & the Sign Factory, Cornwall Community Police Service, Cornwall Fire Department, Downtown Business Improvement Association, Metro Towing, Public Property Municipal Works, and Strathmore Tree Farm. CogecoTV broadcast the entire event live and if you missed it, they will be re-airing throughout the next month. Their program schedule is available online at www.cogecotv.com/cornwall.

Ticket scam sweeping the Province Nick Seebruch nicholas.seebruch@tc.tc
CORNWALL, Ontario - There were reports from around Ontario on Wednesday of individuals receiving scam emails concerning unpaid traffic tickets. Const. Dan Cloutier of the Cornwall Community Police Service (CCPS) stated to the Seaway News
that the CCPS had received 15-20 calls from local residents claiming they had received this scam. “They (the scammers) are sending out notifications that individuals have been ticketed and asks them to click on a link,” said Cloutier. “I didn’t follow that link because I assumed it would be spam.” Other areas of Ontario such as Kawartha Lakes have also received reports about this scam.

OPINION
The best gift you can give Nick Seebruch nicholas.seebruch@tc.tc
Let’s all take the time this Christmas Season to celebrate those who exemplify the Christmas Spirit. Christmas is all about giving and not the expectation to receive anything in return. Organizations in our community like the Agapé Centre, Meals on Wheels, the Salvation Army and the St. Vincent de Paul Society make Christmas real for hundreds of residents of Cornwall and without those organizations it would not feel like Christmas for any of us. This week saw the introduction of the familiar Salvation Army donation stations to our stores here in Cornwall. The proceeds from each red bucket go towards supporting someone less fortunate and each is manned by a volunteer. This time of year especially, food banks and kitchens like the St. Vincent de Paul Society, Meals on Wheels and the Agape centre are relied on especially heavily. The Agapé Centre saw a 25 percent
increase in its usage in November this year compared to November 2015. At least 500 families per month are using the Agapé Centre food bank and as many as 140 people a day use their soup kitchen. One of the most popular items in the Agapé Centre food bank is peanut butter. Peanut butter just flies off of the shelves, because it is rich, filling and an easy source of protein. The good people at Royal LePage took it upon themselves to conduct a fundraiser in November to collect as many jars of peanut butter that they could for the Agapé Centre. By the time they were done, Royal LePage was able to give the Agapé Centre 229 jars of peanut butter. There are also volunteers who have given not just food, but real meals and their time to those who use the Agapé Centre. The Agapé Centre’s Hungry Heroes program is setup for families or school groups who want to roll up their sleeves and get directly involved in giving this holiday season. For $200 participants in the Hungry Heroes
program can sponsor a meal and some of those heroes have even taken the opportunity to go to the Agapé Centre’s soup kitchen and prepare the meal themselves. There were at least three school groups in
November who came to the Agapé Centre to make a meal. Sometimes the best gift that you can give at the holiday season is one you give to a stranger.
At one time – and perhaps no more Nick Wolochatiuk ~ Dancing with Words At one time or another, in one way or another, we have all made trails. Coming up very soon we will have many opportunities to make trails through the snow that is sure to come. Using a snow shovel, a snow blower or our car, we may make a trail from the front door to the sidewalk. At one time, I made hiking and XC-ski trails through the forested woodlot we once owned. The hiking trails that are distributed throughout the Adirondacks acted as my inspiration and model. All you have to do is avoid the boggy spots and the isolated erratics that retreating continental glaciers once deposited. Just trim a few little bushes and remove the stumble rocks and there you have it – a trail. At one time a network or passenger-carrying railway lines used to dissect Ontario. There once was the so-called ‘Peanut Line’ which used to connect Cornwall to the CPR main line
meticulous surveying and bone-wearying labor to make the rock cuts, fill in the bogs, prepare the ballast and lay the ties and rails. What now? The removal of the few remaining miles of railway lines is imminent – unless wiser, more far-sighted minds over-ride that myopic plan. Despite the fact that there already is a spider web of existing trails and roads that ATVs, snowmobiles, hikers and mountain bikers have access to, the decision has been made to tear up the few remaining tracks of the Adirondack Railroad. What folly! I’ve had the pleasure of taking the excursion train that runs between Lake Placid and Saranac Lake. Last month we pedalled one of the ‘Rail Explorers’, a sort of bicycle that operates out of Saranac Lake. Unless there is a near-immediate reversal of plan, unless there is a switch from the decision to ‘tear it’ up to a policy of ‘let it be for the future’, the Adirondack Railroad will soon me nothing more than a yellowed page in a history book. To learn more, visit www.adirondackrr.com and www.railexplorers.net.
Yes, you can pedal the rails. The Rail Explorers program offered a delightful ‘first-hand’ (two-feet pedalling) opportunity to ride the Adirondack Railroad (Photo by Nick Wolochatiuk).

near St. Telesphore, Quebec. At one time, one could ride a NYC passenger train between Ottawa and New York City. You could even board it in Cornwall. Now, all gone. At one time, there was a network of railroads that evacuated droves of city folks from the noise and congestion of their big cities to the sylvan wilderness of the Adirondacks. Some were tourists bent on indulging themselves in the comforts of the grand inns, often referred to as ‘the great camps’. Other rail travellers were tuberculosis sufferers, seeking ‘the fresh air cure’ that was offered in Trudeau’s sanitarium and numerous ‘cure homes’ established in the Saranac Lake area. Now, all gone. Trudeau? No, not Justin, nor his father Pierre. It’s physician Edward Livingston Trudeau (1848-1915) of which I speak. Now, two gone. However, a few of the tracks that were painstakingly laid through the challenging Canadian Shield landscape are not quite all gone. It took hundreds of thousands of backbreaking, black fly-infested hours of

OPINION Nevertheless, he said, customers were taking to the new dial system “like ducks to water.” Mayor L. G. Lavigne placed the first ceremonial dial call from his office at city hall two days earlier, perhaps dialing home to see what was for dinner. MP Albert Lavigne and MPP Peter Manley made the first long distance calls. Bell, of course, picked up the tab. Both placed calls to Ingleside, which at the time was a long distance call that cost 15 cents for the first three minutes. Until then, a telephone call required the help of a pleasant-sounding female operator who would ask, “Number please?” It didn’t matter what time it was, or what day it was, an operator was there to put through the call. A real, live person. Bell had extra staff on Christmas Day to handle the big increase in long distance telephone calls. Out in the countryside, it wasn’t unusual for the caller to know the operator - and the operator to know the caller - at the local exchange. A conversation could go like, “Hey Ethel, how’s it goin’.” To wit Ethel would say, “Great Fred. Who ya callin’?” Ethel might even have time to pass along the latest piece of gossip, give the exact time or the weather forecast for the day. Telephone numbers were pretty simple. Two, three or four digits. Some had a couple of numbers and a letter which signified a partyline, which is about all most middle-class families could afford. Folks on social assistance - called welfare and relief - couldn’t afford a telephone. One of the best known pre-dial numbers belonged to the Lally-Munro fuel company which had a snappy CKSF radio commercial that urged listeners to “Call Lally-Munro 27 hundred.”
The direct dial system gave every customer a new number that started with WE (Wellington) followed by a 2 or 3 and the assigned number. In the city, most partylines - which were about 75 cents a month cheaper - were shared by two customers. In the country, as many as five or six households shared the same line. Unlike the city partyline users, everyone knew with whom they shared the line. The best thing about partylines was eavesdropping, the delicate art of listening in on a telephone conversation, a great form of entertainment, especially out in the country. The secret was to lift the receiver up ever-so-gently to avoid a give-away clicking sound. TRIVIA ANSWER Cornwall family-owned Leduc’s Supermarket was on Eleventh Street East and was part of Leduc’s plaza, which in the 1950s was ahead of its time. TRIVIA This company once manufactured television sets at its Vincent Massey Drive plant. THIS WEEK IN THE 1963 - Compo Records started test runs with the goal to being full production of vinyl records in January. The Copeland Drive plant, with a payroll of 150 employees, signed a two-year contract with the International Leathergoods, Plastics and Novelty Workers Union. ... Cornwall Fire Department was called to its first chimney fire of the season. ... Mrs. Enid MacDonald was elected deputy reeve of Lochiel Township and became the first female member of United Counties council. ... In a village referendum, Morrisburg voters rejected Sunday sports and entertainment. ... The city’s welfare office reported that the number of people on welfare in the city
was down 6.9% while the rest of the province had a 4.6% increase. The city had 2,451 people on welfare. ... Jackie Coleman scored four times and had an assist as Lancaster Dodgers tied Kingston Aces 5-5 in a St. Lawrence Senior Hockey League game. ... Long-service employees were honoured at the Standard-Freeholder staff recognition evening at the Cornwallis Hotel. Receiving long-service honours were A.E. Gratton (25 years), H.G. Morrissette and Keith Grant (15 years), Robert Bedingfield, Helen Clark, Elizabeth Duke and Fred Kyte (10 years). ... Magistrate Bruce Hunter was in a preChristmas giving mood when a Nova Scotia man appeared before him on a vagrancy charge. The man asked for time to come up with some money so he could get home. The judge asked how long he needed. The man said about three weeks. The magistrate said okay and handed him a 20-day jail sentence. “At least you will have a place to sleep and three meals a day,” said Hunter. SPORTS STUFF Former St. Joseph’s Secondary School and Cornwall Wildcats quarterback Jakob Loucks was named Canadian Intercollegiate Sports (CIS) rookie-of-the-year winner in Hamilton on the weekend prior to the Vanier Cup game Saturday. The freshman QB guided Mount Allison University (Sackville, N.B.) to the Atlantic championship game, losing to St. Francis Xavier. It is rare for a freshman QB to take the reins. Shades of McMaster rookie QB Mark Timpany, a Cornwall Collegiate graduate, who took Mac to the league title in 1964. It was just the second time McMaster went with a freshman starting QB. The other was Russ Jackson who went on to be one of the best QBs in the CFL.

In an age of instant wireless communication cell phones, smartphones, Ipods, emails, texting, tablets and all that other high tech stuff we can’t seem to live without - the thought of using an index finger to turn a circular dial around and back several times to call somebody seems like science fiction. It was called a rotary dial telephone, which at the time came in one colour - basic black, unlike today’s fashion statements. A mobile rotary phone was one with an extra long cord. You found out who was calling by picking up the telephone and saying “hello.” You left a message with the person who answered, if not the one you were calling. On Dec. 1, 1957 several thousand Cornwall and area Bell Canada - it was at the time called The Bell Telephone Company of Canada - customers became part of the rotary direct dial age, the biggest communication leap since Morse Code and the telegraph. Somebody suggested that the rapid advancements in communication technology have been so profound since dial phones, an adolescent user today has a better chance of hearing a real cloned dinosaur roar than hearing a dial tone. The local Bell Telephone manager (these were the days when the local Bell manager had a high profile in the community) reported that the switchover went smoothly but noted that a large number of “curiosity calls”on the first morning had delayed a dial tone response. Folks were up early seeing if, and how, the new fangled system worked.

Beaux sourires Ontario :

An old man has been standing in line at the pearly gates for so long, when he gets to the front, he can’t remember his name for St. Peter to look up in the Big Book. Peter doesn’t know what to do, so he gets Jesus to help him figure it out. Jesus says “Tell us about your life, maybe that will jog your memory.” The old man says “Well, I only had one child, a son.” Jesus smiles and says “Heh, I was an only child too. Go on.” The man says “I was a... some kind of wood-worker or carpenter... something like that.” Jesus is like “Huh, that’s another coincidence. Anything else you can remember?” The man shakes his head a bit and says “You may not believe this, but my son - he was brought to life through a miracle!” Jesus’ jaw drops, he smiles, and tears comes to his eyes, “Father??” The old man’s eyes open wide, “Pinocchio??”
