Tivoli Pleasure Gardens, Copenhagen
T
he original name of the gardens 'Tivoli and Vauxhall' refers to the Tivoli Gardens in Paris and in Tivoli near Rome and London's Vauxhall Gardens. The idea of a pleasure garden involves existence of lots of different things for visitors—from the garden and flower gardens themselves to bandstands, cafes, theatres, concert halls and early rides like a basic scenic railway and a merry-go-round. In the evening, performances are staged under brightly coloured lanterns and there is the occasional fireworks display. The garden has its own entertainment committee, including its own music director. Since the original construction, when the gardens lay outside the walls of the city, the gardens have remained open and survived intact (except for a few buildings, which were destroyed by the Nazis during World War II). The gardens have been added to and repaired over the years, the idea being that the park will never be finished. Two of the most popular attraction are the world's largest carousel and Rutsjebanen—a wooden roller coaster constructed in 1914 and still running today.

The Galouti kebab -A hallmark of Awadhi cuisine .
It is a dish from lucknow, the city of nawabs. Made of minced goat and green papaya, traditionally used to tenderize the meat. After mixing with herbs and spices, the very finely ground meat is shaped into patties and fried in pure ghee until it is browned. Well, as far as the story goes, Tunde Miyan was a royal chef to a Nawab of Awadh who became too old to keep all his teeth, but still craved for kebabs. Galawat ke kebabs were invented for the Nawab to keep coming back to the dastarkhan, or the royal dining area. And do you know how the Nawab rewarded his chef? He got his hands cut-off so he could never make those kebabs again for another nawab. Here is the recipe-

FUNtastic Fiestas Las Fallas- Spain
St. Patrick’s Day- Ireland
Does the smell of gunpowder excite you? Does the sight of flames make you smile? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then Las Fallas of Valencia is your kind of event, a loud, smoky, high-spirited fiesta where the whole town is literally set ablaze! Las Fallas is undoubtedly one of the most unique and crazy festivals in Spain. What started as a feast day for St. Joseph, the patron saint of carpenters, has evolved into a 5-day, multifaceted celebration involving fire. Valencia, a quiet city with a population of just over 1 million, swells to an estimated three million flameloving revelers during Las Fallas celebrations. This four-day festival in Valencia is one of Europe's hottest festivals. Naughty effigies, colossal bonfires and amazing parties, Las Fallas is fiery festival of ferocious proportions! This year the festival will be celebrated from 15th to 19th March.
Holi - Mathura- Vrindavan & Barsana, India
The Hindu festival of Holi marks the beginning of Spring and is celebrated mostly in northern states of India. Bidding goodbye to the chilly winters, celebrating the playful love between Lord Krishna and Radha and many other legends corroborate the good-natured raucousness that surrounds the festival. During Holi, people of Mathura (a city in Uttar Pradesh) come out on the streets in small troupes, dousing each other in wet and dry colors. The whole town appears as a joyous mass of colours, erupting from every corner. Krishna temples like Banke Bihari in Vrindavan and Gulal Kund in Braj are the major venues near Mathura, where you can witness an action packed day of colors, bhaang, sweets and ‘lath maar’ Holi. Lath Maar Holi is played between men and women where the fairer gender mockingly hits the other with large wooden sticks, enacting the role of Radha’s friends chasing Krishna away. This can also be seen in the nearby village of Barsana. The festivities in Mathura and around go on for an entire week. This year Holi will be celebrated on 6th March. 26 Corporate Outbound| February 2015
Saint Patrick’s Day (also known as the Feast of Saint Patrick), was originally a celebration of the beginning of Christianity in Ireland but has expanded into a world-wide celebration of Irish culture. Celebrations of St. Patrick ’s Day include annual parades with bagpipes and drums. A few Irish groups pooled their resources to create one big parade, which became the Dublin St. Patrick’s Day Parade, which now draws crowds of several million each year. Across Ireland the festival is celebrated for a few days, but the magic really happens in Dublin. Thousands of wildly dressed and colorful performers entertain crowds of natives and tourists with music, street theatre, carnivals, and parades. Food is an important part of the celebration, with many people turning to “traditional” Irish food, like corned beef and cabbage and soda bread. Many people now prepare green food for St. Patrick’s Day, anything from green pasta, green pizza, and green eggs and ham, to green desserts and pastries. And of course, there is plenty of beer and liquor, especially in the pubs. Every year St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated from 14th to 17th March.
Frozen Dead guy Days- Nederland, Colorado
If you're attracted to things like a coffin race, polar plunge, beer re-animation or bizarre parades then you should not miss the Frozen Dead Guy Days. As the wacky title implies, it’s all about one dead guy from Norway that was kept frozen in Nederland, Colorado by his family members who thought they could re-animate him one day. This story inspired locals to organize a very peculiar festival that’s all about fun, and, well, a dead guy. The mains event sees teams of coffin racers sprinting round an icy track carrying a "dead" friend in a coffin. During the festival one can also take part in some of the unusual games offered - turkey bowling, fish throwing, taking off your clothes and jumping into frozen water or just have fun watching the festival. As they say, “freeze the day”. This year the festival will be celebrated from 13th March to 15th March. February 2015 | Corporate Outbound 27

n the West Coast of New Zealand’s south island, not a lot happens. So some clever person decided to put their town on the map by starting a festival to rival Fear Factor. In 1990 local woman Claire Bryant, who made her own wine from gorse flower and rose petals, decided to create an event for those who wanted to taste the wild west coast. Today it is something quite stomach-turningly different. You can try from horse semen shots, colostrom shooters, wasp larvae ice cream, as well as fried clams, venison, wild boar and sheep milk cheeses to Huhu grubs and Grasshoppers to Mussels and Mountain Oysters.
