Located in North Philadelphia, the Kensington neighborhood is a residential and commercial district plagued by high amounts of drug traffic and massive amounts of vacant parcels and store fronts. As a part of the process to bring the neighborhood back to its historical prowess, my plan proposed the creation of a regional landmark and transportation hub, taking advantage of the ConRail viaduct and Market-Frankford Line. The design objectives for this project were as follows: • Foster Safe and Equitable, Neighborhood Development • Design an Ecologically Viable Urban Environment and Green Economy • Revitalization of Kensington’s Economy

At the corner of Ruth St. and Hart Ln., in the Kensington neighborhood, are multiple vacant lots; the development of which would serve as a catalyst for similar improvements throughout the Kensington neighborhood. The plan contains a play area for children as well as space for a community garden. The garden would serve as an area for local and healthy food sourcing while also providing educational opportunities.

CEDARBROOK PASSAGE LOCATION: Ambler, Pennsylvania COURSE: Studio III : Sep.2013 - Dec. 2013 MEDIUM: AutoCad, ArcMap, InDesign, Photoshop, SketchUp
The Wissahickon Valley Watershed Association sought Temple University’s Woodland Design Studio for help in developing various solutions for a missing trail link along the 21 mile Green Ribbon Trail in Montgomery County, PA. Site conditions required the conceptualization and development of a low impact boardwalk layout and the design focused on protecting and highlighting local ecology.

MODEL ABSTRACTION LOCATION: Ambler, Pennsylvania COURSE: Studio III : Sep.2013 - Dec. 2013 MEDIUM: Plywood, Clay, Foam Board, Plant Material
Starting by selecting an abstract painting, spaces and forms were extracted through three iterations of models. This project focused on the importance of texture in a design as each iteration became more tactile and more visually representative of a vegetated space than the last. The painting used for this exercise was Lyubov Popova’s Space Force Construction.
OXFORD WETLAND MITIGATION LOCATION: Oxford, New Jersey COURSE: Studio IV : Jan.2014 - May 2014 MEDIUM: AutoCad, ArcMap, InDesign, Photoshop, SketchUp
Under the guidance of the Evaluation for Planned Wetlands (EPW), the Oxford Wetland Mitigation Bank was developed using six ranking criteria. • Fish (Non-Tidal Stream/River) • Sediment Stabilization • Shoreline Bank Erosion Control • Uniqueness & Heritage • Water Quality • Wildlife Each category is scored based on a scale of 0.0 to 1.0, 0.0 meaning that there is low potential in the wetland, and 1.0 meaning there is high potential in the wetland. The completion of this project resulted in a greater understanding of site performance metrics, plant community selection and placement, as well as advanced Photoshop processes.

GREYSTONE HALL LOCATION: West Chester, Pennsylvania COURSE: Capstone : Jan.2015 - May 2015 MEDIUM: AutoCAD , ArcMap, Photoshop, Indesign, SketchUp The sweeping hills and valleys of the Greystone Hall property naturally create feelings of open, playful, and intimate spaces. The history of the English style country estate is visible in Greystone Hall’s remarkably preserved architectural integrity. However, the out buildings and formal grounds that once served various agricultural, recreational, and housing purposes, have been left to nature’s destructive forces. This project focused on and was developed around three criteria: Ecology: Showcase native plant diversity, beauty, and function by utilizing design principles that blend horticulture and ecology. Economy: Create a working landscape that promotes aesthetic, cultural, economic, and environmental values for both the owner and visitors. Social: Create and environment that promotes collaboration with educators and the general public to extend the impact of education for a sustainable future. To achieve the objectives set forth by the above criteria, everything from a specific native plant’s optimal growth requirements and flower shape, to the appropriate time and removal process for a specific invasive species was covered and reported on.
Site Character
Master Plan
Concept One: Reflection
Concept Two: Open Space
Concept Three: Flowering
The purpose of the Refection Concept is to bring the element of open water to the Greystone Hall project. This will serve the ecological functions of collecting water on site, recharging ground water, preventing downstream flooding, reducing sedimentation, and providing additional flora and fauna biodiversity. These water surfaces also introduce another dimension into the gardens and open space areas by creating mirror like surfaces on which the surrounding landscape can be reflected.
The Open Space Concept was created to explore the possibility of further opening the lawn areas to create the scenario for a major meadow restoration that would coincide with the surrounding woodland restoration and create both framed and open viewsheds. This concept would also provide for the greatest amount of songbird habitat creation. Additionally, this concept allows the property to more closely resemble the rolling Chester County landscape which first inspired the Greystone Hall location.
The Flowing Concept is about securing the future of Greystone Hall by making it more economically viable. This concept includes a native plant display garden which would be open to the public and would be paired with a native plant propagation business. These ideas coupled with the existing use of the site would insure that the historic infrastructure can be maintained, the surrounding landscape can be monitored in perpetuity, and the site can go on functioning for many years to come.

TDR SENDING AREA LOCATION: Lancaster County, Pennsylvania ORGANIZATION: Brandywine Conservancy: May 2011 MEDIUM: ArcMAP
With a Transfer Development Rights (TDR) program, municipalities can create a mechanism for protecting natural and cultural resources as it allows for development rights in areas designated for protection to be sent to areas designated for future growth. Due to agricultural land being consistently under threat from development, the following maps were created to demonstrate TDR’s effectiveness and possibilities. This map shows which parcels are to be considered for the TDR program.
36
The above map displays the TDR allocation of unprotected parcels eligible for the county agricultural preservation program. For parcels to be considered they must be Agricultural Security Area parcels that contain 50% or greater prime agricultural soils and are either 50 acres and greater or 10 acres and greater and adjacent to existing preserved lands.

LOCATION: East Amwell, New Jersey ORGANIZATION: Princeton Hydro: Apr. 2016 - Oct. 2017 MEDIUM: AutoCAD, Photoshop, Illustrator
The Clawson Memorial park offers a playground area, recreational fields, hiking trails, and natural meadow areas. Much of the park is mowed lawn, that experiences ponding water and uncontrolled runoff that impacts local residents. The primary goal of this project is to improve the stormwater management and the aesthetics of Clawson Memorial Park, the largest open space parcel managed by East Amwell Township. The secondary goal is to increase public awareness of the importance of stormwater management and to provide a demonstrative model rain garden that landowners can observe and replicate at their homes, farms, and businesses throughout the community.

EDUCATIONAL OUTREACH Non-Point Source Pollution
When it rains stormwater from roads, parking lots, and other impervious surfaces pollute Barnegat Bay. Lawns are a major pollutant source for the streams and rivers that flow into the bay.
Parking Lot

GOOD TO KNOW
FIRST FLUSH The “first flush” or initial surface runoff of a rainstorm tends to carry higher concentrations of pollution downstream compared to the rest of a storm. Capturing and treating the “first flush” can greatly reduce pollutants washing into our streams and the Bay.

The Bayscape for Barnegat Bay program, run by the American Littoral Society (ALS), is a program focused on demonstrating to private citizens and businesses the benefits and processes behind creating beautiful, eco-friendly landscapes focused on water quality, water conservation, and wildlife habitat. This project consisted of developing signage concepts, creating multiple project signs and iterations, coordinating with project stakeholders, and managing the project through design to fabrication and installation.

The MTD is a large, underground concrete vault that collects stormwater runoff from the school’s road, parking lot, and pathways. Debris, litter, sediment, and the nutrients and other pollutants that are often “absorbed” by the sediment, are removed and trapped in the MTD.
POROUS PAVEMENT
Unlike traditional paving materials, special asphalt, concrete and spaced paving, allows for rain and snow to seep into the ground beneath the surface, increasing groundwater recharge while decreasing stormwater runoff.
graded to better allow stormwater inflow. The existing soils were aerated both infiltration and the overall health of the soil. The garden area is planted ucing pollution and also provide habitat, cover, and food for song birds and ur own back yard!

Bayscape for Barnegat Bay
Bayscape for Barnegat Bay engages citizens throughout the Barnegat Bay watershed to become better stewards of the coast and Bay by becoming better stewards of the land. Barnegat Bay has been in serious ecological decline due to many detrimental human activities that take place on the watershed lands which drain to the Bay
You can help by: Using native plantings to improve the health of the entire ecosystem along the coast Reducing your lawn area bordering your existing lawn with plant buffers Creating habitat for pollinators and other species Practicing appropriate use of pesticides and fertilizers Limiting water use This Native Plant Rain Garden showcases some of the plants that are appropriate for our eco-region. For more information, visit http://www.littoralsociety.org/. Funding for this project was provided through a Watershed Restoration 319(h) Grant from the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (Grant #RP11-038)
Funded by a Section 319(H) Non-point Source Pollution Control Grant From:
Special Thanks to: Toms River Regional Schools
Technical Support by: Princeton Hydro
Through the use of demonstration gardens and educational signage, ALS is able to connect the public to the environment and foster future stewardship. An educated public is key in generating support for progressive environmental legislation .
