PUBLIC ART

Community Connections

Artist: James Moore

Location: 1001 N. Pershing Ave.

Community Connections was designed to tell a story that could be understood and enjoyed by the entire community – no matter the background, age, or gender of the individual. It is a story about building a future that we all participate in – together. It’s a timeless story that would serve generations to come.

Central to Moore’s design are the abstract human forms. These make the artwork accessible for people who may or may not have had much exposure to art. They invite individuals to imagine themselves in the work without needing to edit things out to feel like it represents them. In these divisive times, the “Them” vs “Us” rhetoric has become palpable. This must change. Moore believes artists and art administrators can help make that happen. One way to cultivate that change is by providing the public with imagery that tells a different story.

Winged Wanderers

Artist: Charly Malpass

Location: 430 E. Market St.

Winged Wanderers” was designed and created by artist Charly Malpass. This mural depicts monarch butterflies fluttering above a map of Stockton, with vibrant orange and black hues. The butterflies appear as if they have paused mid-flight to admire the landmarks and streets. Their presence adds a touch of enchantment to the composition, evoking a sense of serenity and harmony between nature and urban life.
