ART NIGHTS

The Stockton Arts Commission will be hosting Art Night events at the Civic Auditorium quarterly each year showcasing art from a variety of local artists exhibiting in multi-genre forms.

Oak Park Experience

Artist: Stephen Coyle

Location: Oak Park Senior Center

The mural “Oak Park Experience” was designed and created by artist, Stephen Coyle, depicting a window into the history of Oak Park and Stockton. Historical references in the mural include the original Oak Park marquee, a trolley, and Captain Weber, the founder of Stockton. These murals were funded by the Public Art Mural program and selected by the Stockton Arts Commission.

YOUTH SPORTS

The Community Services Department offers safe, fun, and friendly youth sports programs for youth at the Pre-K level (Start Smart) through 8th grade. Participants learn to engage in group sports in a positive environment and will learn the fundamentals of each sport. All dates and times will be determined by enrollment and age. The City of Stockton offers 25% scholarships on registration fees for our youth sports programs. Please request when submitting your registration form at one of our community centers. Scholarships will not be applied after the program has concluded.

START SMART DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM (AGES 2-6)

The Start Smart curriculum is developed by the National Alliance for Youth Sports (NAYS) and is developed for the Preschool age group. Start Smart activity sessions are led by Community Services staff members. All equipment is provided; participants only need to come dressed in athletic clothes and shoes.

START SMART: SKILLS & DRILLS (AGES 2-4)

The Skills & Drills program is an interactive 6-week program where children and parents will actively participate together in fun learning sessions that introduce the fundamentals and skill development for current sports.

START SMART: GAME ON! (AGES 5-6)

The Game On! program is a 6-week transitional program that focuses on enhanced development from the Skills & Drills Program and preparation to function as part of a team and play in a league. Sessions will include both practice activities and scrimmage games.

Elevate your child’s enthusiasm for sports in our dynamic youth program. Designed for ages 7-14 (not exceeding 8th grade), our leagues emphasize skill development, teamwork, and fun. Young athletes will build lasting friendships while enjoying the thrill of competition. Our youth teams can only be successful with parent and volunteer coaches. Coaches can select their preferred practice time and location for their team. Join us for a season of active play and growth!

JUNIOR GIANTS – SUMMER SESSION – FREE PROGRAM! (AGES 5-18)

Junior Giants is a free non-competitive youth baseball and softball summer league sponsored by the Giants Community Fund. While teaching the fundamentals of the game, the league focuses on the Four Bases of Character Development: Confidence, Teamwork, Leadership, and Integrity. Players also participate in a summer reading program for a chance to go to a San Francisco Giants game! All uniforms and equipment are provided. Availability is limited and spots fill up fast, so sign up early!

SPRING BREAK SPORTS CAMPS - FIRST TEE GOLF ACADEMY – NEW!

First Tee strives to provide all kids with access to opportunities for personal growth and an introduction to the game of golf in a fun and safe environment. As the First Tee of San Joaquin introduces the game, they also introduce a life skills curriculum that supports the development of values found within the game of golf, including honesty, integrity, perseverance and respect. All equipment is provided, no prior golf experience is necessary.

Become a volunteer coach and help mentor the next generation.

• Training/coaching clinics and resources are provided, no experience necessary!

• Team Up! Coach alongside another parent or friend.

• Coaches receive a 25% discount towards their child’s registration!

• Background check required.

Time commitment is one hour of evening practice per week and one hour for games on Fridays or Saturdays.

The City of Stockton Community Services Department and Stockton Police Youth Activities (SPYA) have joined forces! Stockton Police officers began coaching for the City Youth Flag Football League and will continue to coach for upcoming youth sports activities as they aim to promote physical well-being, skill development, and a positive community impact. This partnership allows officers to engage with youth in the community. Additional SPYA programs include Junior Cadets, Boxing, Youth Enrichment, and the Matt Smith Toy Drive.

A true team sport that is a test of hand-eye coordination and strategy is our adult volleyball league offering a COED recreation format that welcomes players of all abilities. The best one-hour cardio workout in town. Come join us for fast-paced high-energy fun on the basketball courts. Our leagues are designed for all skill levels. Offering Lower, Upper and Open divisions allows for various levels of skill and competition. Adult Futsal is a great way to connect with people in the area. Futsal is an exciting fast-paced small-sided soccer game. It is a scaled down version of outdoor soccer played indoors. This 5x5 game is played on a hard surfaced basketball court with a smaller low bounce ball. Adult futsal leagues are governed using a combination of the National Futsal Premier League and City Rules.

CAREER IN SPORTS: STOCKTON KINGS CAREER Q&A PANEL AND BASKETBALL GAME

Join us for an exciting evening with the Stockton Kings! The event begins with a career Q&A panel featuring the Kings’ professional staff, where you’ll learn about sports careers and strategies for success. After the panel, enjoy dinner while cheering on the Kings as they face the Grand Rapids Gold. Participants can also take a group photo with the team after the game.

The Community Services Department is dedicated to building strong communities through the provision of educational, creative, and recreational opportunities. Stockton Community Services Department utilizes independent contract instructors to provide recreational classes to our community. LIGHTS, CAMERA, EDIT – TEEN VIDEO PRODUCTION & EDITING WORKSHOP

Hey, future filmmakers! Are you ready to unleash your creativity and dive into the world of video production? Our thrilling program is designed for teens ages 13-17 who are eager to tell their stories through the lens!

Over the course of seven weeks, teens will master the essentials of filmmaking—from brainstorming epic ideas to capturing stunning footage and editing like a pro. Whether you dream of becoming a YouTuber or filmmaker or just want to up your digital storytelling game, this is your chance!

Teens must be enrolled in the City-wide Teen Program to participate.

Session Start: February 6 to March 20, 2025

Days: Thursdays, 4-6 p.m.

BEATS BOOTCAMP FOR TEENS

Hey, music makers! Are you ready to take your sound to the next level? Join us for an electrifying program where you’ll learn how to produce a quality song from start to finish!

Over the course of this exciting 8-week journey, teens will dive into:

• Digital Audio Workstation Magic: Get hands-on experience with the software that top artists use to create chart-topping tracks.

• Synthesizer Skills: Discover how to design your very own synth sounds that will make your music stand out.

• Mastering EQ and Compression: Learn essential techniques to enhance your tracks and give them that professional edge.

Teens must be enrolled in our City-wide Teen Program to participate.

Session Start: March 17, 2025

Days: Mondays and Wednesdays for ages 13-14; Tuesdays and Thursdays for ages 15-17

Time: 4:30-6:30 p.m.

Location: TBA

This is a blended course consisting of both online and in-person classes. The course length is approximately 6-8 hours online and 21 hours in person. The online portion must be completed prior to the first in- person class.

Through classroom learning and hands-on practice, you will learn:

• Surveillance skills to help recognize and prevent injuries

• Rescue skills - in the water and on land

• First aid training and professional rescuer CPR –this will help you prepare for any emergency

• Professional lifeguard responsibilities, such as interacting with the public and addressing uncooperative patrons

Participants will be required to pass the Red Cross assigned swim tests at the beginning of class to continue. The test will consist of the following:

• Swim-tread-swim sequence: swim 6 laps, tread water for 2 minutes with hands under arms, swim two laps. Swimming can be done in either freestyle or breaststroke.

• Brick Tow: Jump in shallow and swim to deep end, grab brick, tow back to shallow end.

Those who successfully pass both the online and in-person testing will receive a certified lifeguard certificate.

FITNESS MEMBERSHIP

Our Fitness Membership provides access to any of our community center fitness rooms and gymnasiums for specific activities. Fitness Rooms can be used during normal hours of operation, and gymnasium activities vary by location. Our fitness rooms are equipped with various cardio and weight equipment. This membership is for Arnold Rue, Stribley, and Van Buskirk Centers. Fitness Memberships are $12 monthly.

Discover all the activities, events, and classes offered at our Community Centers for our senior community to stay active and healthy. Become a part of our vibrant senior community for only $28.75 annually. Memberships can be purchased at any City of Stockton Community Centers and allows the membership to be used at Arnold Rue, Oak Park, Stribley, and Van Buskirk Centers. Enjoy billiards, fitness room access, dance and aerobic activities, crafts, and several senior-specific classes.
