*Why is it called Whitewoman Street?
Mary Harris, an Indian captive, is considered the first white woman settler in the Ohio Country. She and her Indian family settled in a nearby town in 1748. She was so respected by her Indian peers that they named the town Whitewoman Town and the trail to the town was named Whitewoman Trail. That trail became today’s Whitewoman Street.

The museum is also home to the controversial Newark Holy Stones which were uncovered in the 1860s in the Newark Ohio Earthworks (Hopewell Indian culture). But the inscriptions are in Hebrew and one of the stones even bears the image of Moses. Many speculate that this mystery could change history as we know it. Johnson-Humrickhouse Museum
First-time visitors to the Johnson-Humrickhouse Museum (JHM) are often amazed to find such treasures in Coshocton, Ohio! Accredited by the American Alliance of Museums, JHM houses permanent exhibits of American Indian (19th c. basketry and beadwork and Ohio prehistoric tools and points), Historic Ohio, Euro-American decorative arts, and Asian arts--including rare Chinese artifacts. Its American Indian basketry collection is nationally significant.
Horse-Drawn Monticello III Canal Boat Rides
Everyone loves meeting Rock & Fred and Willie & Bill, the huge draft horse teams that pull the canal boat along an original section of the Ohio and Erie Canal. Travelers on the (seasonal) 45-minute canal boat ride are also entertained by the lively Canal Boat Captain as he explains 1800s life on the canal with tall tales and history, creating the feeling of actually gliding right into the 1830s.
