HOLIDAY GIFT GUIDE!
“I’VE BEEN GOOD”
“I’VE BEEN GOOD” Yes, that’s what four year old Lucas Meiser told Santa following the arrival of the big guy at the annual Towne Centre “Miracle on Main Street” parade and holiday lighting. Santa Clause arrived with his usual flair riding atop a Coshocton city fire truck and entertained dozens of kids at the civic hall after the parade. The event drew hundreds of people to downtown Coshocton on Friday evening, Nov. 19, where they enjoyed a parade complete with all three high school marching bands, floats, costumed Christmas characters and candies thrown by parade participants. Of special note, Coshocton Trucking gave away bicycles to several lucky youngsters along the parade route. By the way, Meiser is requesting a motor scooter for Christmas. BEACON PHOTO BY MARK FORTUNE
The Miracle on Main Street parade drew a large crowd and some larger than life characters as well, with the always popular Frosty the Snowman and Gingerbread man. Also pictured is West Lafayette Hometown Festival royalty participating in the parade. Gage McVay, one of the lucky winners of a bike from Coshocton Trucking, said, “It’s pretty cool.”

The Coshocton Footlight Players will present the stage version of the holiday favorite A Christmas Story, humorist Jean Shepherd’s memoir of growing up in the Midwest in the 1940’s. Performance dates at the Triple Locks Theater are Dec. 3, 4, 9, 10, 11, 17, and 18 at 8 p.m. and Dec. 12 at 2 p.m. This beloved story follows 9-year-old Ralphie Parker in his quest to get a genuine Red Ryder BB gun under the tree for Christmas. Ralphie pleads his case before his mother, his teacher and even Santa Claus himself at Goldblatt’s Department Store. The consistent response is ‘You’ll shoot your eye out.’ All the elements from the classic motion picture are here, including the family’s temperamental exploding furnace; Scut Farkas, the school bully; the boys’ experiment with a wet tongue on a cold lamppost; the Little Orphan Annie decoder pin; Ralphie’s fantasy scenarios, and, of course, Ralphie’s father winning a lamp shaped like a woman’s leg in a net stocking. The production is directed by Susan A. Metz. Chuck Hathaway is the assistant director and Becky Jacobs is the producer. The cast features Lynn Jacobs as “The Old Man”, Jan Myers as “Mother”, Andrew Duffy as “Ralph”, Jake Wheeler as “Ralphie”, Cole Fisher as “Randy”, and Mickie Galajda as “Miss Shields”. Also featured are Bob Brems, Bethel Toler, Sam Scott, Triston Conn, Cayden Coffman, Kennedy Webb, Addie Crouso, Conner Drennen, John Brems, Tom Heil, Maggie Myers, Chanelle Robinson, Javin Robinson, Anna White, Emily White, Chelsea McFarland, Kayla Metz, Kylee Metz,

FRAZEYSBURG, OH – American troops stationed throughout the world will celebrate the holidays with an Ohio-grown tree thanks to Operation Evergreen, an annual event this past Wednesday at the Ohio Department of Agriculture’s Reynoldsburg campus and organized by the Ohio Christmas Tree Association (OCTA). Trees were donated by various Ohio Christmas tree growers and inspected by department nursery inspectors before being sent to soldiers serving in Iraq, Afghanistan, Qatar and Kuwait. Three hundred trees received a phytosanitary certificate for international shipment and will be delivered to troops by FedEx. In addition to the trees, decorations were donated by local schools, churches and veterans’ groups, ensuring the military units receiving the trees will have all that is needed to celebrate the holidays. “Hopefully the trees can bring a little bit of home to our troops who will be spending the holidays away from their families,” said Amy Galehouse, Operation Evergreen Coordinator with the OCTA. Operation Evergreen helps to kick off the Trees for Troops program that will collect approximately 16,000 trees to be delivered to the families of military personnel. FedEx will provide delivery to 55 military bases. Operation Evergreen is sponsored by the OCTA with the help of Christmas SPIRIT Foundation and FedEx Corporation. OCTA has delivered Christmas trees to troops stationed overseas since 1995.

Let us help you with your gift giving this Christmas!
Guests visiting Roscoe Village on Dec. 4, 11 and 18, will have the opportunity to experience a truly old-fashioned Christmas through horsedrawn carriage rides, roasted chestnuts, strolling carolers, complimentary hot-mulled cider, cookies, Christmas Candlelighting tours, luminaries, and visits with Santa. On Dec. 4, Neil Zurcher will serve as the honorary candlelighter. As a professional journalist, Neil has worked in television, newspapers, magazines and radio for over a half-century. He has logged more than a million miles on Ohio’s roads over 25 years as a TV travel reporter. He was the original host of the “One Tank Trips” travel report, which aired on Fox8 Television in Cleveland and has since been imitated in other television markets throughout the United States. Zurcher received the Distinguished Service award from the Society of Professional Journalism and the Silver Circle award from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. He also received an Emmy, the Award for Excellence, in Broadcasting from the Cleveland Association of Broadcasters and has been inducted into the Cleveland Press Club Hall of Fame. He was also inducted into the Ohio Broadcasters Hall of Fame and received their “Living Legacy” award in 2007. For many years, Zurcher wrote a column for AAA Ohio Motorist magazine and now writes regularly for the Cleveland Plain Dealer. He has written five books about Ohio, including Ohio Oddities and Strange Tales from Ohio. At candlelightings each year, visitors are provided a candle upon arrival at the ceremony and surround the main stage in the center of the village to listen to guest choirs sing carols, hear a Christmas story, and participate in the lighting of their candle. When it comes time to light the candles, the Honorary Candlelighter lights his or her candle from the main candle on stage then passes the flame through the crowd as each guest joins in the singing of “Silent Night” until everyone’s candle is glowing. The candlelighting ceremonies begin at 6 p.m. and are free to the public.

Travel back in time to the night of Jesus’ birth at the 4th annual “A Night at Bethlehem” hosted by the Emmanuel Lutheran Church. Rediscover the true meaning of the Christmas season while strolling through the little village and interacting with the people of long ago. Visit the local bakery, the spice shop, and learn how to make scrolls, woodwork and even perfume, and don’t forget to stop in at the local Jewish home to say hello. A lot of the shops have hands-on activities for the kids. Most of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church’s congregation participates in this event each year and will be arrayed in old-fashioned costumes made by the women of the church. This year’s exciting costume debut will be the new three wise men costumes. Soldiers, townspeople, children, shopkeepers and even tax collectors will be wandering through the village interacting with their guests and bringing the story of Jesus Christ to life. There will also be live animals including chickens and llamas to help set the mood in this old Bethlehem village. “It’s the gift of our church to the community to celebrate the true meaning of Christmas to enter in the story of Jesus’ birth and to experience the gift of the Savior to the world,” said Pastor Bryan Kittner. Each year, volunteers work countless hours in helping decorate and set up for this special weekend event. Two weeks before, decorations and props start arriving. Set-up begins a week before the event and all volunteers work tirelessly to make sure the village models the authentic village of Bethlehem. With all the hustle and bustle of the approaching holiday season, take time to relax and rediscovered the true Christmas spirit at “A Night at Bethlehem” which will be Dec. 10 – 12. The event is from 6 – 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 1 – 3 p.m. on Sunday. “It’s focusing on the birth of Christ and realizing it took place in an actual place and time,” said Pastor Kittner, “The story of His birth is part of our story. We hope people will think about it in their own life.”
