Co-ChaiR’s message As Co-Chair’s and on behalf of the 30 committee members of Coshocton County’s Relay for Life, we officially welcome you to the 14th Annual 2009 Relay. Last year’s event was notable in that at exactly 12:36 P.M. on Saturday, May 17, 2008, Coshocton’s County’s Relay grossed over $1 million dollars raised in Coshocton Kim gress & Bob nicholson County over it’s 13 years as an official event for the American Cancer Society! The Coshocton County community, while currently on a downturn economically, continues to be a “CLUB RELAY” by being in the top 50 relays in Ohio (out of 250). Coshocton County is a place where people with cancer are deeply cared about. This year’s theme, “CELEBRATE HOPE” focuses on the reality that cancer deaths are falling for the last two years in a row! As you stroll through the Fairgrounds this year you will see displayed how, in the midst of all that this disease does to it’s victims; survivors, caregivers, families, and our community have hope that cancer will be defeated! In fact the evidence is pointing that this dream could be a reality in our lifetime!! This year a record 52 teams have stepped up for this year’s event with unity and determination to continue the tradition that Coshocton County means business in doing our part to face and conquer this disease head-on. Please join us on Friday, May 15th at the Coshocton County Fairgrounds for the 14th annual Relay for Life. Opening ceremonies begin at 6:00 P.M. The traditional Lumanaria Candle Lighting Ceremony will be held at 9:00 PM on Friday. During the 24 hour event several local bands, a dance troupe, our annual cake, craft, and quilt auction in addition to the annual Miss Relay Contest will take place. Also, we will again honor our armed forces as well as our elected officials and first responders at Noon on Saturday. We will also be recognizing our Honorary Chairs…new survivors who have been diagnosed with cancer since last year’s Relay. Let’s show these new survivors that Coshocton County is a vital part of stamping out this despicable disease once and for all!!! See you on the track,
Bob Nicholson Co-Chair

In 1985 an American Cancer Society volunteer, Dr. Gordy Klatt, put on his jogging shoes and headed for his local oval after a good friend succumbed to cancer. Twenty four hours and 81 miles later, Dr. Klatt had raised an amazing $27,000 in sponsored donations for the American Cancer Society. Since then Relay For Life has developed into the world’s largest Fundraising event, and from its humble beginnings is now held in over 2,000 locations and has raised over 150 million for research in the United States. Relay For Life events are now held in eight countries around the world including Australia, Canada, the United States, Great Britain, Scotland, Ireland and Singapore.
