HEATHER JAMISON, MIKE FARLEY AND JULIE MCFARLAND As your Co-Chair’s for this year and on behalf of your many committee members, we want to personally welcome you to Relay For Life of 2013! We are very excited and honored to be given the opportunity to be your co-chairs because Relay For Life is something we hold near and dear to our hearts. Our committee has worked very hard throughout the year starting in September to make this the best Relay yet. We set ourselves a goal of having 35 teams, with 3 new teams participating. We surpassed the goal and are happy to announce we have a total of 38 teams, with 5 new teams participating in Relay 2013! Coshocton County is reaching for $132,000 to help fight this dreaded disease known as cancer. This year’s theme is “Keeping Hope Against All Odds”. As always in the past, teams can decorate their campsites with their own interpretation of the theme. Everyone looks so forward to the creativity and different aspects of campsites. One of the many activities teams can take part in is the annual tent judging contest. We invite you to join us at the fairgrounds Friday, May 17th and Saturday, May 18th and bring a friend to enjoy this years Relay. Our Opening ceremonies will begin at 6:00 p.m., with our survivor lap kicking off the official event followed by the caregiver and team laps. The annual Laminaria service will then begin later at 9:00 p.m. honoring those who continue to fight and those we remember that have lost their fight. Throughout the full 24 hour event, we will have food, games, entertainment and fun for the whole family! Just as Relays are beginning to grow weary through the evening we have a jam packed Saturday starting off with the 5K and continuing to the Miss Relay Contest and Purse Auction and later the Cake, Quilt, and Craft Auctions. And as always our wonderful Armed Forces Ceremony starting at 12:00 p.m. We will wrap up the event by announcing the total money raised, top team levels, and reflecting on a memorable 2013 Relay For Life. Our honorary chairs, Colon Cancer Survivors, will be recognized during the opening ceremonies on Friday evening at 6:00 p.m. Even if you’re not on a team or have never participated before, stop by and take a walk around the track and become a 2013 Relayer! We are “Keeping Hope Against All Odds” so that one day someone will not have to hear those dreaded words, you have cancer. Please put us on your calendar for Friday May 17th and Saturday May 18th to be a part of the 2013 Coshocton County Relay For Life. We DREAM BIG. HOPE BIG. RELAY BIG. And we are RELAYERS!

Relay For Life is a family event 1. No alcohol is allowed. 2. No smoking is permitted at this event. 3. No pets (even on leashes) are permitted within the fairgrounds at any time – even during setup. 4. No skateboards, rollerblades, bicycles or golf carts are allowed on the track after 5:45 p.m. Basically nothing with wheels except wheelchairs or strollers. 5. All personal vehicles must be off of the track by 5 p.m. Friday. 6. Campfires are permitted as long as they are contained in firerings. All ash should be removed from the grounds. Do not burn trash in the campfires. There are ample trash cans available throughout the fairgrounds. 7. Pop cans can be disposed of in the recycling that have been placed around the track. 8. Teams are asked to leave their campsites exactly as they found them. That includes depositing all trash in the trash cans.

COSHOCTON COUNTY RELAY FOR LIFE PROGRAM
The 2013 Miss Relay contest will be Saturday, May 19 at 10 a.m. at the Main Stage Area during Relay For Life weekend. During Miss Relay, one man from each Relay For Life team is invited to dress up like a woman and show their glamour’s side. Dress code for the event is family friendly, and committee members who find a costume offensive will eliminate that person from participating. A panel of judges will choose a winner based on personality, evening wear and stage presence. They also will give out the titles of Miss Congeniality, Most Original and Miss Relay. The Miss Relay contestants also get to advertise their team’s purse during the contest. All teams are invited to participate in the annual purse auction. This purse can be any container filled with items worthy of bidders to help increase the team’s total funds raised. Teams are asked to list all items included in the purse, with an estimated value, on a card for the auctioneer and bidders. You don’t have to have a purse to participate in Miss Relay and you don’t have to participate in Miss Relay to have a purse. Our local Farmers Agent, Donna Fischer has sponsored this race again and all proceeds go to the American Cancer Society to help fund the fight against cancer. The fee to run or walk in our 3.1mile race is $25 and checks are to be made to the American Cancer Society. T-shirts will be given until our limited supply runs out. Medals will be awarded to top finishers in age groups for male and female. If you are part of a Relay team or know one, your team can be credited your fee as part of their total. If you are not already part of a team, this is a great opportunity to check out our amazing community’s 24 hour fundraiser for a cause that has touched all of our lives. Entertainment Biographies Maxine Metheney Band The Maxine Metheney Band is comprised of several local members. Maxine Metheney plays piano, rhythm guitar and sings lead and harmony vocals for the band. Maxine came from a talented family of which she, her three sisters and both parents performed as “The Clay County Sweethearts” around the state of WV. She continues to play music as does other members of her family including her 73-year old mother. Sam Stotts is a bass player and sings lead and harmony vocals. Jamie Shamel is a very talented singer and drummer. Randy Stotts runs the sound for the band. Sam Cox plays lead guitar and sings lead vocals. We love what we do and to please the audience is an added bonus. Our music ranges from old country to new rock and roll and a touch of blues with a smooth sound mix. Jody’s Dance Group Jody’s Dance is a dance studio in West Lafayette that began on a patio at the Ridgewood High School in 1973. Still going strong after all these years, we offer tap, jazz, hip hop, baton, gymnastics, and beginning ballet. The dancers learn to dance with the greatest focus being on the child’s spirit and confidence. The child can forget about the concerns of their hectic week for just a little bit and get lost in the fun of dance as they look forward to a Spring Recital. Thank you to the community for all your support. Walhonding Rube Band There was an African American barber who came to New Castle about 1913 and got some of the boys together with instruments. He taught them to play and they made the original Walhonding Band. Somewhere

in the 1950’s, they allowed girls to join and at this time they played only marches. Around 1980, under the direction of Don Nixon, they began to play other types of music as well as marches and became the Walhonding Rube Band. We incorporate musicians from several counties in the vicinity and will accept anyone who has an instrument and knows a little about playing. Linda Weber Linda Weber is a local Gospel singer/songwriter that has been traveling across this Nation for the past 20 years doing Gospel concerts and now travels to other countries as well preaching the Gospel and singing. Her husband John writes a lot of her songs as well as her mother, brother and herself. She also includes some country songs with good morals. Hardesty - “One Man Band” Max Hardesty Max Hardesty will be performing in memory of his granddaughter Alana Branstetter who passed away in 2006 from Leukemia at the age of 16. He himself, wife and many family members have battled cancer. Max was born in Fresno and currently lives in Newcomerstown. Max and his late wife Virginia raised six children who all live in the area. Max was raised in a musical family and performs on the guitar, keyboard, banjo, mandolin, and fiddle. Presently he performs for the Three Rivers Bluegrass Show at the Coshocton Village Inn and Suites once a month where all proceeds are donated to Team Alana Relay for Life.
