the Mayor of torrevieja, eduardo dolon, and the councillor for international residents, Gitte Lund, have attended the raising of the irish flag in the Plaza of the constitution, on the occasion of the celebration of its patron saint, st. Patrick. the ceremony was attended by the parish priest of the immaculate conception, Manuel Martinez rocamora, as well as many irish residents in torrevieja. the flag raising was carried out by the retired county Mayo councillor for 40 years, Frank durcan.
after the raising of the flag the irish anthem was sung and a group of women performed a typical irish dance, ending the ceremony with the delivery of the typical shamrock to both the mayor of torrevieja and the mayor of international residents.
