The literary routes around the province of Girona invite us to discover this legacy and immerse ourselves in the Ripollès county of Joan Maragall, the Romanyà of Mercè Rodoreda and the Girona of the Bertrana family. With so many renowned authors passing through the Girona counties over the years, it is no longer possible to explore this region without being reminded of their work.

‘Places and words’. Prudenci Bertrana route in Girona

Summers spent in Begur had a profound effect on the poetry of this writer, who wrote and revised much of the work he later published while staying here. The guide on this route is Miquel Martín, a writer living in the town.

This itinerary invites you to discover Girona through the eyes of Prudenci Bertrana and visit some of the city’s most emblematic and thought-provoking places which provided the setting for the cultural dreams of the writers of his period.

Temporary exhibition ‘The urge to live and write. Prudenci and Aurora Bertrana’

Fages de Climent route

Prudenci and Aurora Bertrana shared a literary vocation which led them to publish the novel L’illa perduda (The lost isle) together in 1935. This exhibition focuses on the creative union behind the conception of the book to explain the world of this father and daughter, how they differed and what they had in common. The show is open until 22 April 2018.

The history and architectural heritage of this town, together with the surrounding landscape of marshes, flood-meadows and fields, inspired this author’s literary creation.

Fages de Climent route This year marks the fiftieth anniversary of the death of this writer. The commemorations are being held above all in the city of Figueres, where he was born and died, and which he had very strong links with, as demonstrated in the numerous texts he mentions it in.

‘Times of siege’. Literary and historical route around the Girona of the French invasion of 1285

Maria Àngels Anglada literary route This itinerary reveals the Figueres of Maria Àngels Anglada in a tour around the places she visited every day accompanied by her verses and prose.

This literary walk takes you around the Girona of the siege that took place here during the summer of 1285. A great opportunity to rediscover the city through the words of those who witnessed events first-hand, chronicler Bernat Desclot, and current literary texts such as Les filles de Sara (Sara’s daughters) by Sílvia Planas, director of the Girona History Museum, which is also collaborating in this route.

This proposal consists of a guided tour around the Gothic quarter following in the footsteps of Pals’ ladies of the manor. Coinciding with the celebration of Sant Jordi (St. George’s Day), there are pauses along the route for readings of poetry by local authors. The visit ends with a final reading at Ca la Pruna cultural centre accompanied by an appetizer and a glass of cava.

A selection of texts taken from Mercè Rodoreda’s extensive writings illustrates the various places and landscapes in Romanyà de la Selva that inspired what is considered to be the most universal work in contemporary Catalan literature. There are scheduled dramatized guided visits, in addition to special visits catering for students of all levels.

The book encourages visitors to enjoy a literary route that presents various places in the town through the author’s poems, tracing his life and cultural career.
