Who Is Sarah Marks?

Dilworth was Charlotte’s first subdivision, envisioned by Edward Dilworth Latta, who aimed to urbanize the area by creating a residential community with convenient access to the city center. In 1890, he acquired 442 acres of farmland and fairgrounds to realize this vision. As industry surged in the early 1900s, Dilworth flourished.

The Cole family purchased lots on several streets including Sarah Marks. Mr. T. T. Cole and his wife Sallie Marks Cole had a little girl named Sarah Marks Cole. They named Sarah Marks after their daughter! When Sarah Marks was 6 years old she began singing in public and became an accomplished singer.
