Thetford Parkrun Returns

On the 24th July we were pleased to see the return of parkrun to Thetford and to the majority of the UK following our pause due to the pandemic. We were unsure what turn out we were going to see on the day and were thrilled to welcome 197 runners and walkers! On the day the buzz in the atmosphere was amazing, we had laughter, smiles and even some happy tears! Since then we have had a further three events and have been able to welcome over 200 people per event! Returning to parkrun has taken a lot of planning and preparation in order to ensure that we are a COVID secure event. The health and safety of our participants is of paramount importance and as such we made some small alterations to enable us to restart. Since restarting we have welcomed over 100 first timers to our parkrun community. We are here for all of our community, no matter who you are. We would love to welcome more and more participants, if you have never run or walked a 5km event before, it doesn’t matter – this is your chance to start and to be part of a fun and welcoming community group. If you aren’t wanting to run/walk but would like to be involved in this amazing event we are always in need of marshals to volunteer with us. Thetford Parkrun Event Director Nicholas Jones said: “The return of Thetford Parkrun has been brilliant! Myself and the run directors are so pleased that the event is back and to see so many people joining us. It is clear to us that a lot of our community has missed parkrun and have needed it back, post lockdowns and restrictions. I would like to also acknowledge my sincere thanks to our amazing volunteers, without them we wouldn’t be able to put on these events”.
