Pathway Scholarships

Thetford Grammar School has a long history of helping students achieve excellent A level grades and secure extremely competitive places at the very best universities in the UK. September 2020 has seen the launch of a sustained programme of scholarships for bright, hardworking young people from across the local area. From September 2021 Pathway Scholars will join Thetford Grammar School for the first time, with substantial awards of up to 90% of tuition costs for exceptional candidates. This will be the most extensive effort to provide Grammar School education to local “We want bright sparks who are willing to work hard,” continued Mr Brewer “Our staff are really excited about the Pathway and are already working with our year 10 and 11 pupils. We’ve had schools from as far as Norwich asking to be involved, it’s a really exciting time for Thetford Grammar School. The Board have been looking for an immediate investment in education and we hope to be able to make an announcement in the next 12 months. We are looking to do something that’s great for the community and for the school.” The new Pathways programme recognises that Thetford Grammar School delivers Sixth Form pupils to outstanding destinations, both in universities attended and careers undertaken. Sixth Form pupils since the school left the state sector in 1981, almost 40 years ago. Registration for pupils entering Sixth Form in 2022 has also opened.

Speaking about the scheme, Michael Brewer, Head of Thetford Grammar school said, “This is the result of a 12 month evaluation of our Sixth Form. We know we’ve been doing really, really well on a small scale consistently and helping pupils get to the right place for them. We have great teachers that care about great kids and drive them towards their goals. It’s the right time for the school to do this and enhance our links with the community.” Candidates will be assessed by a non-traditional scholarship exam; they will sit a paper with open ended questions and every pupil will have a fair shot to be successful. The new Pathways approach to the Sixth Form will do even more for pupils who might need extra help to get to their chosen path. Thetford Grammar School is a CReSTeD school, providing support for pupils to become a centre of excellence for pupils with Dyslexia and learning support needs.
