A MESSAGE FROM THE ARTISTIC DIRECTOR In 1975, A Chorus Line made a seismic shift in the world of musical theater by creating a backstage musical with heart, humanity, and heartbreak. This groundbreaking work is an honest confessional and points the spotlight at the unsung Broadway chorus dancer. Much more than a peek behind the curtain at what it takes to make it on Broadway, this poignant story shares the journey of how these unique individuals became dancers and how a group of diverse individuals transform into the uniform dancing machine for a traditional old-school Broadway musical. Everyone who has ever been cast in a chorus can relate to these stories: stories of troubled childhoods, stories of starting to dance, stories of adolescence, and stories of doing what it takes to get that next show. It all culminates in some getting the job and some being left heartbroken. A Chorus Line won 9 Tony Awards and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, a rare honor for a musical. It has captivated audiences around the world, and it has mesmerized performers with its rich storytelling and amazing choreography. I know it’s a big part of my theatrical journey, from hearing the original Broadway cast recording when I was 9 to being cast in the show when I was 24 (ironically, without a dance audition). A Chorus Line, for me, is the perfect show to reboot Phoenix Productions after the shutdown. A veritable love-letter to Broadway, musicals, and dancers, this show represents the passion, drive and difficulties of life in the theatre. Phoenix Productions is all about celebrating big Broadway musicals and providing dancers, singers, actors, and artisans a place to grow. Whether performers are just starting their journey in the arts, taking a break from their day to day to dabble in performing, or looking to keep a toe in the theatrical waters, Phoenix is a place for everyone. On stage, backstage, and in the shops, Phoenix is a Community Theater working to create and serve our community… a community of people who love theatre. The anthem of the show sums it all up…. “Love is never gone. As we travel on, love’s what we’ll remember.” Enjoy the show. James
Phoenix Productions, Inc. would like to thank our dedicated cast and staff that worked so hard to make our A Chorus Line show a success.
