CAPITAL CAMPAIGN UPDATE FROM THE CEO

Capital Campaign Update

from Adam Philipson, President & CEO, Count Basie Theatre You notice when you walk in the lobby that the Basie has a beautiful vision for the future embossed on the wall. The proposed expansion and renovation will create a true regional, full-city block arts campus with more classrooms, expanded lobby, bathrooms, elevators, and a new second space at the west end. This expansion will allow us to fulfill our mission of being a barrier free performing arts center to serve the residents of New Jersey by bringing the highest level of diverse performing arts, maintaining a world class facility and preserving the legacy of Red Bank’s very own jazz legend William “Count” Basie. The Count Basie Theatre turns 90 this year -- and more than ever, we are recognized as creators of a “Pathway towards Progress” for an economy, the region as a whole, and for the students who benefit when they choose a path accentuated by the performing arts. We do have some significant dollars to raise and our capital campaign is off to a good start with almost $4 million dollars raised towards the effort. Your facility fee helps towards capital improvements and we thank you for that support but we also need more help. We are beginning a series of CEO breakfasts where we will share more about the vision and if you would like to join us for one please contact future@thebasie.org

the musical performance and the theatrics. It all added up to a show that was as memorable as it was unique.”

Maynard James Keenan said of the live performance, “This show is so much more than just a band regurgitating songs. This is a multi-media performance unlike anything you’ve ever witnessed. There are those who know, and there are those who will know soon enough.” Guitar player/producer Mat Mitchell added, “Round 1 was a blast for us, looking forward to more bone breaking fun in Round 2!”

Money $hot was released on Oct. 30 via Keenan’s Puscifer Entertainment. The album landed at #1 on Billboard’s Independent Music chart, #2 on the Alternative Albums chart and #30 on the Top 200. In a four star review, Revolver Magazine described the album as “a meditative and hypnotic – not to mention wholly engaging – offering” and both Crave and Kerrang placed the release on their year end, best of lists, with Crave saying, “The yin and yang of masculine and feminine energy interweave a pulsing eroticism that curls itself around the mind like one of Keenan’s many grapevines.”

The Kansas City Star, in a live review, said “not much emerges from the music world these days that feels genuinely unique, but Puscifer’s Money Shot tour qualifies. Each component of the show was first-rate: the sound mix, the videos, 14

ROCK & ROLL HALL OF FAMER

Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Famer DION Thursday, April 14 • 8:00PM

“Dion remains the one member of the first generation of rock & roll music who continues to make new, credible musical statements.” Music Critics say he is the only first-generation rock and roll artist who has remained creative and relevant through the decades. In 1958 he had three top-forty hits. In 2007 he was nominated for a Grammy®.A street poet and singer of extraordinary versatility, range and resonance, Dion defined Rock ‘n’ Roll for a generation.

DION number-one hits that many still consider to be the best of the entire rock and roll era, from the rocker “Runaround Sue” to the driving “Lovers Who Wander” to the anthemic “The Wanderer.” As the first rock and roll artist ever signed to Columbia Records, he continued his streak with such smashes as “Ruby Baby,” “Donna the Prima Donna” and “Drip Drop.” In 1968, Dion emerged as a more contemplative songwriter and performer. That year he shot to the top of the charts with “Abraham, Martin and John,” a song that was an anthem for that generation.

In 1957 Dion brought the best of his Bronx neighborhood street singers together to form his group, Dion and the Belmonts, named after Belmont Avenue in the heart of the Bronx. “I Wonder Why” was their first hit, and over the next two years the group earned a reputation not only for topping the charts but for creating some of the most vital and exciting doo-wop music on the American scene. With songs such as “A Teenager In Love” and “Where or When,” Dion and the Belmonts earned their place in the history books.A national sensation, they toured extensively and were co-headliners on the 1959 Winter Dance Party, the tour that took the lives of Buddy Holly and Richie Valens.

He was nominated for a Grammy® in 1985 for his album I Put Away My Idols. In 2007 his blues album “Bronx in Blue” was also nominated. In 1989 Dion was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He has never stopped recording, never stopped writing, never stopped performing. He has shared the stage with such longtime Dion fans as Bruce Springsteen, Paul Simon, Bob Dylan, and Lou Reed, all of whom cited the originator of the “Bronx Blues” as one of their prime influences. His 2011 album “Tank Full of Blues” showcases his inexhaustible creativity and sheer exuberance — qualities that have made his music and his legend endure..The man rocks, and he rocks on...

Going solo in 1960, Dion racked up a string of 16

ESPERANZA SPALDING Presents: Emily’s D+Evolution Saturday, April 16 • 8:00PM

GRAMMY® award-winning singer-composer-bassist Esperanza (Emily) Spalding has announced her newest project, Emily’s D+Evolution. Rekindling her childhood interest in theater, poetry and movement, this new project delves into a broader concept of performance. Originally conceived the day before her birthday, during a “sleepless night of full moon inspiration”, Emily’s D+Evolution will be performing all new material that Esperanza says “unfolds as live musical vignettes.”

“Emily is my middle name, and I’m using this fresh persona as my inner navigator. This project is about going back and reclaiming un-cultivated curiosity, and using it as a compass to move forward and expand.” says Spalding.“My hope for this group is to create a world around each song, there are a lot of juicy themes and stories in the music. We will be staging the songs as much as we play them, using characters, video, and the movement of our bodies.” 18

ALTON BROWN: LIVE! Eat Your Science

Presented by: Count Basie Theatre & AM Productions

Wednesday, April 20 • 8:00PM

“Alton Brown Live: Eat Your Science” the followup to the smash “Edible Inevitable” tour, will hit the road in 2016. Fans can expect more comedy, talk show antics, multimedia presentations and music (yes, he sings), but Brown is adding a slew of fresh ingredients including new puppets, songs and bigger and potentially more dangerous experiments. Brown has a knack for mixing together a perfect base of science, music and food into two hours of pure entertainment. Critics and fans rave about the interactive fun when Brown invites an audience member on stage to serve as his assistant. According to Alton, “there will be plenty of new therapy inducing opportunities during our audience participation segments. I don’t want to give too much away, but we’re also going to play a little game with the audience,” says Brown.

Brown, author of the James Beard award winning, “I’m Just Here for the Food,” and the New York Times bestselling sequence, “Good Eats,” is releasing the first of two new cookbooks through Ballantine Books (an imprint of Random House) in the Fall of 2016. ALTON BROWN: EVERY DAY COOK, or EDC as Brown calls it, is a collection of more than 100 personal recipes as well as a pinch of science and history. He has hosted numerous series including, “Cutthroat Kitchen,” “Camp Cutthroat” and “Iron Chef America” and created, produced and hosted the Peabody award winning series, “Good Eats” for 13 years on Food Network. Good Eats can still be seen on the Cooking Channel and Netflix.

FACTS ABOUT THE BASIE’S NONPROFIT ARTS EDUCATION EFFORTS

The History and look at the Future Soul of the Count Basie Theatre

2016 doesn’t just mark 90 years of Count Basie Theatre history – it also commemorates 15 years of its education and outreach programs, the very core of the theatre’s nonprofit mission. Without its work to promote arts education, the Basie couldn’t be a true community asset. Here are 15 facts about the Basie’s nonprofit, arts education efforts that maybe you didn’t know: 1 The Basie’s Performing Arts Academy (PAA) got its start in 2001 as the “Cool School,” offering a total of five classes in singing and dance. This year, the PAA will offer more than 60 classes, with a concentration on dancing, acting and musical performance sessions for nearly 1,000 students. “I often say that the Performing Arts Academy and our Education department are the soul of the Basie,” says Tom Widener, Chairman of the Basie’s Board of Directors. “And they really are. We are very proud that we continue to serve more and more children through our programs and initiatives.” 2 The Basie’s Education department has been under the direction of Yvonne Lamb-Scudiery since its inception. “In just 15 years, we have truly become a leader in arts education,” she says. “It’s great to be realizing our potential and continuing to make a difference on so many levels.” 3 For its first 13 years, the “Academy” lived amongst the Basie’s empty office spaces and storefronts, which were converted into classrooms. In 2014, the Basie acquired the building at the west end of its campus – a onetime Wawa convenience store. “Turning that building into a community arts space gave us the brick and mortar bookend of a true, thriving arts campus,” says Basie CEO / President Adam Philipson. 22

4 So, how’s that property being used? It houses the Basie’s Education department. It’s an expense-free gathering spot for arts nonprofits. It’s home to workshops and Academy classes, and also acts as a black-box theater for larger-scale Academy productions, such as this summer’s Seussical Jr. For more info, visit theBASIE.org/education. 5 The Basie’s Education department also coordinates the theatre’s strong presence in local schools, like the recent Arts For All initiative in Red Bank Middle School. “Arts For All integrated percussion, acting – even hiphop dance – into the everyday curriculum in a way that made students excited about learning,” says Dr. Jared Rumage, Superintendent of the Red Bank school district “The Basie’s focus on arts education made for a better learning experience for our middle schoolers.” 6 In 2012, the Basie was accepted into the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts’ Partners in Education program, which guides arts institutions in their work with schools and integrating arts into the curriculum. The Basie effort, which has since incorporated classes in the Red Bank and Fair Haven districts, was one of only 14 such organizations selected in 2012. 7 Academy students have experienced master class opportunities with worldrenowned artists. Bobby McFerrin, the Alvin Ailey Dance Company, George Thorogood, Chris Botti, DiCapo Opera Theatre and countless other artists have taken time to speak to our students about turning the arts into a lifelong profession. Kathy Dorn Severini DBA Dorn’s Classic Images. Used by permission.

History On July 29, 1925, the Red Bank Register reported the plans of Little Silver’s Joseph Oschwald to build a Theatre on Monmouth Street. Oschwald’s theatre would be a partnership between himself, Joseph Stern of Newark, the Burns and Schaffer Amusement Company and Walter Reade, then wellknown as New Jersey’s largest theatre owner. The register noted that the property and rights of way were already secured at a cost of $21,000, with a projected construction cost of $300,000. Ground was broken on December 9, 1925 and the theatre opened just nine months later on November 11, 1926. Opening night was a grand affair, headlined by a vaudeville performer, the feature film “The Quarterback” starring Richard Dix, plus Carlton’s news events reel and a 10-piece orchestra. The following summer and fall, the plan was to use the Theatre to try out musical comedies and other shows to be produced in New York. Admission would never be more that 75 cents for movies and vaudeville shows. First known as the State Theatre (the initials “ST” are still inscribed on the peak of the building’s façade), the theatre’s name underwent two name changes early on -- first to the Red Bank Theatre, and then, to the name it operated under for over four decades, the Carlton Theatre. A later Register described the new Carlton Theatre as “a marvel of beauty, convenience and comfort.” “Outside and inside it is an architectural triumph,” it continued. “Color and light are two of the outstanding features of the new building. Thousands of electric lights stud the ceilings and sidewalls. In the center of the building is an enormous dome-like sunburst illuminated with a myriad of concealed lights. A very large glass chandelier is suspended from the center of the dome. The interior of the theatre is rich with colors harmoniously blended. The furnishing are rich in velours and velvets in contrasting shades.” A grandly painted vaudeville curtain, still in use today, filled the proscenium arch. The theatre was privately owned and operated for almost 50 years. In 1973, an anonymous donation made it possible for the Monmouth County Arts Council to acquire the building for just $96,665

and preserve it for cultural uses. It operated as the Monmouth Arts Center until 1984, when it was renamed in honor of jazz pianist, composer, band leader and Red Bank native William “Count” Basie, who had passed away just months prior. On June 30, 1999, the Count Basie Theatre, Inc. was established as an independent nonprofit corporation to maintain ownership and manage, program and preserve the theatre for benefit of the community. In 2004, the first of a 12-phase, $21.5 million renovation began with the purchase and installation of brand new, historically accurate seating. In 2008, the auditorium, lobbies and Carlton Lounge were renovated and restored. In 2011, the façade and marquee were restored and the theatre was named to the National Register of Historic Places.Total expenditures on capital improvements have totaled $12 million to date. Although the current schedule is comprised of live music, dance, theatre and arts education performances, much remains the same about the facility. Almost 200,000 people a year attend events at the Count Basie Theatre. In an age when we communicate and entertain ourselves through media that its founder could not have imagined, their theatre is still the place where people go when they want to be entertained and enlightened in the company of their community. 8 The Education department also fosters relationships with partner programs, including the Rockit! At The Basie rock performance program, the Jazz Arts Academy At The Basie and the Count Basie Theatre Voices, a choir ensemble started earlier this year. Rockit! students have performed with Jon Bon Jovi, Steven Van Zandt, Bobby Bandiera and Max Weinberg, while the Voices have joined Foreigner, ABBA Mania and Broadway legend Patti LuPone on the Basie stage. 9 First held in 2005, the Basie Awards were designed to be a Tony®-style awards show to recognize excellence in Monmouth County high school drama and musical productions. About a dozen schools participated then; this year, the Basies turn 11 and will consider performances at nearly 30 county schools. Barnabas Health – Monmouth Medical Center is a longtime sponsor of the Basie Awards. Recipients of the Basie’s Arts Impact Scholarships are also recognized at the Basies, with gifts sponsored by the Monmouth County Freeholders, the MoserToboada Law Firm, Siciliano Landscape Company and Barnabas Health.

10 Basie Awards winners have made it to Broadway and beyond. Marlboro’s Jason Cohen, a 2009 Basie Award winner, portrays Jerry Lee Lewis in the national tour of Million Dollar Quartet. Another former Basie Award winner, Josh Pins, toured nationally as part of West Side Story. 2013 winner Sean Gilbert is a Les Miserables touring cast member, while multiple Basie winners Lori Tischfield (Goodspeed Opera House) and Christian Potterton (New York City Opera) have also gone on to stardom. 11 Other Basie students have gone global: Onetime Rockit! student Jacquie Lee made it all the way to the finals of NBC’s The Voice, while fellow Rockit!-eer Gianna Salvato also succeeded on the series. Michael Arrom, a onetime Rockit! keyboardist, has toured the world with musicians like Steve Vai and Keith Urban. And Rumson native Charlie Puth – he of 2015’s smash hit “See You Again” is another alumni. “Charlie was about 12 years old when he auditioned for one of our jazz programs,” Scudiery says. “He immediately blew us away – his improvisational skills were off the charts.” 26

12 The Academy employs a number of high-level teaching artists, like original Rent cast member Fredi Walker Browne, Kerrianne Spellman (Les Miserables), Deb Lyons (Smokey Joe’s Café,The Mamas & The Papas), Bradley Mott (The Accidental Tourist, ER, Roseanne, the Cohen Brothers’ Inside Llewin Davis) and countless others. 13 Another exciting Basie educational effort is PROJECT FX, New Jersey’s statewide student film festival and competition sponsored by Bank Of America. This year, nearly 100 students from across the Garden State submitted films to be judged upon industry luminaries like Oscar™ winners Timothy Hutton and James Schamus, Dan Rather, Sony Pictures Classics co-president Tom Bernard, Basie board member and actress Maureen Van Zandt and others. See the nominees for yourself at theBASIE.org 14 The Basie’s Bus-In Program - which subsidizes and transports students from across Monmouth and Ocean counties for educational programming and preand post-show sessions with our teaching artists – has earned national recognition. More than 10,000 students have participated since its inauguration in 2015, with lessons covering everything from Irish heritage, to jazz appreciation and AfricanAmerican culture. 15 So what’s next? As part of the Basie’s vision for its future, the current Academy building will be torn down to make room for additional classrooms, space for arts nonprofits, and a second venue to bring smaller music and stage productions to the campus. “The expansion of the Basie is not only an amazing moment in our 90 year history,” Philipson says, “but a pathway towards progress for the tens of thousands of students that will benefit from a regional performing arts and education center.”

PAU L ANKA

PAUL ANKA

Sunday, May 15 • 7:00PM

From an early age Paul Anka had a dream to make it as a singer composer and by the young age of 15 the rapid and enormous success of “Diana”, his first number one hit, made him a star. Soon Paul found himself traveling by bus with the top names of the day. He honed his craft surrounded by the likes of Jerry Lee Lewis, Buddy Holly, Frankie Lyman, and Chuck Berry. He notably penned the longest running theme in television history for The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson.

Anka co-wrote Michael Jackson’s posthumous #1 worldwide hit, “This Is It.” Anka’s last two albums – Rock Swings and Classic Songs, My Way – ingeniously featured songs originally created by some of the biggest rock performers of the day. His new album entitled Duets was released by Sony Music Entertainment and features artists such as Frank Sinatra, Michael Jackson,Tom Jones, Celine Dion, and Michael Bublé. The album set a milestone in Billboard Chart history because with the CD, Anka became the only artist to have a CD on the Billboard Top 100 Chart for seven consecutive decades.

His later achievements as a recording artist included “Hold Me ‘Til the Morning Comes,” the Spanish-language album Amigos, and Body of Work. It was revealed upon its release in 2009, that 38

LOUIS PRIMA JR. And the Witnesses Thursday, May 19 • 8:00PM

Louis Prima Jr. and the Witnesses are bringing Prima music into the 21st century. Not content to sit on the legacy they so passionately protect, LPJ and the band are taking a page from his father’s playbook, by wailing Prima Swing like it’s 2016. Louis Prima Jr and the Witnesses bring new energy and a current attitude to the masses with The Wildest Show this side of the 1960’s. Since their breakout performance at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival (aka Jazz Fest), #TeamPrima has performed everywhere from Seattle to Palermo, from small clubs to performing arts centers, from casino showrooms to music festivals, and from Access Hollywood Live to PBS. LPJ and the Band are currently touring in support of their release, BLOW–a collection of original music (save for a couple of surprises) as eclectic and unique as each member of this powerhouse band. Building off of the success of their critically acclaimed debut CD Return of the Wildest!, the band has brought together many years of diverse musical tastes into their second offering. From the first thunderous stomps of the title track, it is evident that this isn’t your daddy’s swing music, but a raucous roller coaster ride of tail--shakin’, foot--stampin’, horn--driven smiles. If you’ve seen them in concert, you’ll know a bit about what to expect from the musical minds of the Witnesses. As energetic and over--the--top as their live shows, BLOW continues the ever-changing musical journey that Prima Sr. began in the 30s. Recorded at Capitol Records in Studio B, where Prima Sr. recorded his hits of the 50s and 60s, the seriousness of this music is masked only by the obvious fun that was had making it. It’s been 50 years since legendary Prima music shook the walls of Capitol. A new legend is being born, and it will BLOW you away! 40

THE ZOMBIES AND FELIX CAVALIERE’S RASCALS Tuesday, May 24 • 8:00PM

The Zombies The newest Zombies release Still Got That Hunger is the fourth album of new studio material since keyboardist Argent and singer Colin Blunstone reunited in 2001. The release marks another milestone for the beloved English combo, whose half-century history stretches back to its 1964 debut single “She’s Not There,” which topped the U.S. pop charts at the height of the British Invasion. Blunstone’s unmistakable voice and Argent’s inventive, assertive keyboard work are matched throughout by the solid support of bassist Jim Rodford (previously a member of Rod’s ‘70s band Argent and a longterm mainstay of The Kinks), drummer Steve Rodford and guitarist Tom Toomey.

to perform for a fiercely loyal audience that includes longtime devotees as well as younger fans. Felix Cavaliere’s Rascals For legendary singer songwriter, FELIX CAVALIERE, making people feel good is primary to his illustrious 50-year career that includes the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, Songwriter Hall of Fame, Vocal Group Hall of Fame, and Grammy® Hall of Fame. Few artists can claim they defined a generation; FELIX CAVALIERE continues to remind us to keep listening for the world’s beauty. Early in 1965, FELIX CAVALIERE formed the ‘Young Rascals’ with Dino Danelli, Eddie Brigati, and Gene Cornish. That October, they signed to Atlantic Records, and now called The Rascals, the mega hit “Good Lovin’” struck No. 1 in February 1966. They followed suit with a string of hits like “I’ve Been Lonely Too Long,” “Groovin’ (No. 1 in 1967), “How Can I Be Sure,” “A Girl Like You,” “A Beautiful Morning,” and “People Got to Be Free” (No. 1 in 1968). The Rascals are considered the best ‘blueeyed soul’ group to come out of the 1960s, as well as one of the groups with the most record sales. FELIX CAVALIERE now calls Nashville home base, where he is constantly collaborating and writing new material. He’s also finishing his memoir and has an active tour schedule with FELIX CAVALIERE’S RASCALS.

Still Got That Hunger’s release coincides with the band’s month-long tour of the United States, on which they’re reuniting with co-founding Zombies members Chris White (bass) and Hugh Grundy (drums) to perform Odessey and Oracle in its entirely, for the first time in America (original guitarist Paul Atkinson passed away in 2004). The original quintet emerged as one of British Invasion’s most adventurous and musically sophisticated outfits, with such hits as “She’s Not There,” “Tell Her No” and “Time of the Season” establishing the band as an international phenomenon. The modern-day Zombies remain one of rock’s hardest-working touring bands, continuing 44

THE MONKEES 50th Anniversary Tour Sunday, May 29 • 7:30PM

When four young men were cast in the television roles of a struggling rock band inspired by The Beatles’ A Hard Day’s Night, few could have predicted the impact The Monkees would make on music and pop culture at large, an impact that still reverberates 50 years later. Assembled in Los Angeles in 1965 for the television series The Monkees, the quartet of Micky Dolenz, Michael Nesmith, Peter Tork, and the late Davy Jones brought a singular mix of pop, rock, psychedelica, Broadway, and country to their music.

Believer,” “Valleri,” and “Tapioca Tundra” all finding their way into the Billboard Top 40. After the series’ two-season run, the group continued to record new material, but much as the ‘60s gave way to the ‘70s, the members of the Monkees eventually gave in to their individual musical interests and went their separate ways… for awhile. In 1986, after MTV broadcast a marathon of The Monkees, Dolenz, Jones, and Tork reunited for a 20th anniversary tour, with Nesmith joining them onstage for the Los Angeles date of the tour, and in 1996, all four members of the group reunited for a new album (Justus) and TV special (Hey, Hey, It’s the Monkees).

The Monkees’ first single, “Last Train to Clarksville,” was released in August 1966, hitting #1 and serving as advance publicity for their series. When the group’s self-titled debut album arrived in stores a month later, it quickly headed for the top spot of the Billboard charts. By the time the group’s TV series aired its final new episode on March 25, 1968, the Monkees had seen three further albums top the charts – More of the Monkees, Headquarters, and Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn & Jones, Ltd., all of which were released in 1967, staggeringly enough – while racking up several more hit singles, with “I’m a Believer,” “(I’m Not Your) Steppin’ Stone,” “A Little Bit Me, A Little Bit You,” “The Girl I Knew Somewhere,” “Pleasant Valley Sunday,” “Words,” “Daydream

In the wake of Jones’s death in 2012, the surviving members of the Monkees reunited and performed a series concerts. The shows were greeted with sell-out response and phenomenal reviews. Now, Micky Dolenz and Peter Tork carry on that tradition with a full evening of magic music and multi-media splendor, including clips from their Emmy® Award winning series. Their new show features all of the Monkees hits, plus an intimate acoustic set and solo spots for each of the singers. This Evening With The Monkees is sure to please every fan of the band. 48

Count Basie Theatre 2016 Summer Gala HONORING: DENISE & MARIO MONELLO

Earth, Wind & Fire Friday, June 17 • 8:00PM

During the 1970s, a new brand of pop music was born – one that was steeped in African and African-American styles – particularly jazz and R&B but appealing to a broader cross-section of the listening public. Founder and leader of the band Earth, Wind & Fire, Maurice White not only embraced but also helped bring about this evolution of pop. It certainly was successful, as EWF combined high-caliber musicianship, wide-ranging musical genre eclecticism, and ’70s multicultural spiritualism.

album All ‘N All peaked at number three pop in late 1977, won three Grammys®. The multi-platinum album I Am hit number three pop in 1979 on the strength of the million-selling single “Boogie Wonderland” and “After The Love Has Gone.” The million-selling funked-up “Let’s Groove,” was the track that re-energized EWF’s career, causing their Raise! album to go platinum. Earth, Wind & Fire kept recording and released albums like Powerlight, Electric Universe, Touch the World, Avatar and Greatest Hits Live; followed by The Name Of Love; That’s The Way Of The World: Alive In ’75; Live In Rio;The Promise, which included the Grammy®-nominated “Hold Me” and Illumination, which included the Grammy®nominated “Show Me The Way.”

With their the self-titled 1970 album Earth, Wind And Fire, their first top 40 R&B hit, “I Think About Lovin’ You” and their 1972 album Last Days And Time, the group slowly began to build a reputation for innovative recordings and exciting, live shows. “Shining Star” one of EWF’s most beloved singles, glittered at number one R&B for two weeks and hit number one pop in early 1975. It was included on their 1975 multi-platinum album That’s The Way Of The World which earned them their first Grammy® Award. The success continued with multi-platinum album Gratitude, singles like “Singasong,” “Can’t Hide Love,” “Celebrate,” “Gratitude,” and the live version of “Reasons.” Their multi-platinum

Their live performances were stellar as well. Their performances blasted a cosmic wave of peace, love and other happy vibrations to audiences using a combination of eye-popping costumes, lights, pyrotechnics and plain old good music. In 2000, the nine-piece ’70s edition of Earth, Wind & Fire reunited for one night only in honor of their induction into The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. 56

THE FAB FAUX The Beatles Greatest Hits Show Saturday, June 18 • 8:00PM

With a commitment to the accurate reproduction of The Beatles’ repertoire, The Fab Faux treat the seminal music with unwavering respect, and are known for their painstaking recreations of the songs. Far beyond a cover band, they play the music of The Beatles so impeccably that one must experience it to believe it. Imagine hearing complex material like “Strawberry Fields Forever” or “I Am the Walrus” performed in complete part-perfect renditions; or such harmony-driven songs as “Because,” “Nowhere Man,” and “Paperback Writer,” reproduced not only note- for-note, but with extra vocalists to achieve a double-tracked effect.

are Jimmy Vivino, Music Director/Guitarist for ‘Conan’ and long time music partner of Levon Helm, John Sebastian, Laura Nyro, lead-singing drummer/producer Rich Pagano (Rosanne Cash, Roger Waters, etc.), guitarist Frank Agnello (Marshall Crenshaw, Phoebe Snow, etc.) and ace keyboardist/guitarist Jack Petruzzelli (Rufus Wainwright, Patti Smith, etc.). All five principals contribute vocals, making the Faux’s soaring harmonies as resonant as their multi-instrumental chops, which are further enhanced by the fourpiece Hogshead Horns (with Blues Brothers, Blood, Sweat & Tears and SNL band alums) and The Creme Tangerine Strings.

The musical virtuosity of The Fab Faux – in actuality five of the hardest working musicians in NYC – completely up-ends the concept of a Beatles tribute band. Rounding out the line-up
