The new model contains the same message about an MYP education but with a different presentation. The circle closest to the centre of the model now contains four elements.

The new DP model differs from the old DP model in the following ways:

Gift from China Week From November 11th to 17th we went to Qing Yuan for China Week and made great memories. We contributed to society by helping the poor. From organizing to planning, everything was up to us. For me as a foreign student, it was an adventure. When I first arrived in Qing Yuan after riding almost six to seven hours on a bus, I was shocked. People were living deep inside the mountain without any proper healthcare services, shopping malls, gyms, not even a theater. Dogs, pigs, chickens wandered freely and there were absolutely no cars. In order to experience the poverty ourselves, our group decided not to stay in a hotel but in the school dormitory. As a result 8 of us took showers in a single bathroom where they didn’t have any shower stall or heater. Every day when I was taking a shower, I felt how lucky I am and how selfish I am. I learnt how to be thankful and feel happy in every moment. At the school, I taught the students Korean and we held a sports festival for them. We planned four different games and even prepared gifts for them. Although it was hard work to prepare all the events, watching how happy they were warmed my heart. In addition to teaching at the school, we helped harvest sweet potatoes for the elderly and visited them in their “homes”. My eyes burst with tears when a grandma offered us the sweet potatoes even though she did not have anything for herself. At the end of the week, I wanted to give them something, but I feel like I learnt more from them than they did from me. Being with them was like having a treasure inside. I am so happy to have had such a chance and am looking forward to having more. By 金河荣 Gloria Kim, DP 11(2)

8th ANNUAL

LANGUAGE FESTIVAL Every year, Country Garden School celebrates the wonders of language by illuminating its integrity for both communication and culture. While we all know that English is an international language, important for working and studying abroad; the language festival focuses on presenting the beauty of all world languages to students in a variety of contexts to help broaden their understanding of its importance. This year marked the 8th Language Festival. Several events took place over the week, all of which were met with a great deal of excitement. One such event was the Subject Teacher Speaking Competition: an event that presented twenty of the best Subject Teachers and their abilities with spoken English. Teachers were set against each other to speak for various lengths on a variety of different topics. The audience was entertained, and excited by the speeches and performances making the event a huge success. A calligraphy contest also took place giving the students a profound opportunity to showcase their abilities at writing in languages they’ve been studying here at our school. German, Japanese, Chinese, English and French were but a few of the beautiful work students produced for the competition. All the best work was put on display for everyone to see in the lobby.

Sections of the speaking competition: 1. Prepared Speech (40%) Teachers gave a 1 minute and 30 second speech.

2. Questions (30%) A series of random questions were presented. Teachers had to pick the number and answer the questions behind them to the best of their abilities. They had one minute to think about the topic.

3. Word Association (30%) A few example questions (try it for yourself!) 1. If you could be any animal; what animal would you be and why? 2. Describe a moment that made you really happy. 3. If you could go back to university, what would you major in?

THE PERFORMANCE The Language Festival performance was an overwhelming success with cross department collaboration from International, National, Pre-University and Overseas sections. Plays such as The Emperor’s New Clothes, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet were performed featuring students dancing the waltz; performed complete with a beautiful backdrop, gowns and suits. Other performances included a live debate amongst students, solo singers and dancers. The theatre above the National Canteen was filled with an audience of cheering students, teachers and parents as performances based on the appreciation of language were performed. The Language Center and the Art Center organized the event; gathered the people, structured the schedules, dealt with the conflicts and successfully allowed the performances to be performed. A massive congratulations and thanks are reserved for them. The Voice Staff thanks everyone for their work on the Language Festival. As this magazine is a dedication to the English Language; we are thrilled to have the opportunity to cover such a celebration. Without language; the human race would have been unable to take such massive leaps in achievements; unable to make such unprecedented discoveries. Without Language; we as a species would have lacked the ability or opportunity to reach the peak of existence we now occupy. For these reasons we should

LANGUAGE FESTIVAL The Primary School Language Festival was a fantastic success. Students took the opportunity to present their language skills within a variety of different activities; Chinese story telling was one event in particular that displayed our students’ ability to tell a creative story on stage. In addition; the PYP building was filled with a number of fantastic calligraphy work that was put on display in the windows of classrooms. The main event however was their own Primary School Language Festival Performances! Primary students took the stage in a wide assortment of colorful costumes telling stories of all types; all themed within the context of language in mind.

BROADENING HORIZONS BRITISH FOREIGN EXCHANGE STUDENTS

Country Garden had the great honor of receiving a group of British exchange students to our school to experience the everyday life of a Country Garden School student this past November. The students stayed for two weeks and did a number of Chinese classes and activities such as calligraphy, traditional dance, Chinese language, music and even martial arts. At the end of their stay they performed the skills they had learned in the Lecture hall near the International Building. It was fantastic!

Have Have you you ever ever heard heard ofof “Gangnam “Gangnam Style”? Style”? You probably have. It is the title of a song sung by a Korean singer Psy. No one expected this song to spread throughout the world with such rapid speed. Not even Psy himself. “Gangnam Style” has become the new trend in Asia, America and even Europe. However, how many people actually know the meaning of “Gangnam Style”? What is Gangnam? Perhaps I can tell you the answer. Gangnam is an affluent part of Seoul, the capital city of South Korea. It is divided into several streets or dongs (Korean name for streets). Each dong can be represented as the central ground for culture, education, food or fashion.

16

CULTURE

CULTURE

FOOD

Many dongs in Gangnam hold cultural festivals such as traditional festivals, drawing festivals, singing festivals and more. For example, in Dogok-dong, there is a festival that replays traditional folk games and ancestral rites of Korea. A number of families participate in this festival to feel Korean ancestors’ wisdom and to experience Korean folk games. Also, there are numerous movie theatres in Gangnam that screen the newest movies. With all of these fascinating activities, it almost becomes impossible to consider Gangnam as a boring place.

Similar to the case with education, a certain number of restaurants and cafes are highly acclaimed both in and out of Gangnam. Sinsa-dong, for instance, has distinctive restaurants that specialize in different kinds of food. Furthermore, Sinsa-dong is renowned for its peculiar cafes. The popularity of Sinsa-dong restaurants and café can be proven by the guiding websites that only specify in providing information about the restaurants and café in Sinsa-dong. To add on, there is a chicken street in Nonhyeon-dong. The name “chicken street” is given because of the variety of chicken restaurants on that specific street.

EDUCATION

FASHION

As a modern town of Seoul, Gangnam contains various schools, academies and faculties required for education. Especially in Daechi-dong, you will find streets flooded with all sorts of academies as well as students wearing different kinds of school uniforms.

One of the reasons for the title “Gangnam Style” could be because many fashion trends begin in Gangnam. Even people from other towns come to Gangnam for shopping. Apgujeong-dong and Cheongdam-dong are two places that are considered to be leading places that set fashion trends. You will see unique shops on the street and occasionally, several malls in between. There are even some nicknames for specific styles that are in Vogue in those dongs. This shows how influential Gangnam’s fashion style is.

Now that you have all the information about Gangnam, when you hear someone talking about “Gangnam Style”, you can proudly explain what “Gangnam Style” means. By 金宣佑 Sally, MYP 9(EE)

TOURING ‘ROUND AUCKLAND, NEW ZEALAND

NEW ZEALND 20

When people think about New Zealand, they probably (and not surprisingly!) come up with such words as “countryside”, “rustic” and “farms”. The majority of people who have not traveled to this country have a stereotypical image of New Zealand in their mind, an image with shades of green and herds of cows or sheep under the cloudless sky. This is true but New Zealand is much more than that. I have lived in New Zealand for four years. To be more specific, I lived in Auckland which is the largest city in New Zealand. Auckland is located on the North Island of New Zealand. Upon my first arrival to New Zealand, I lived in the North Shore, which was the home to mostly non-Asians and then moved to the east side of Auckland, where most Asians reside. There are still big farmlands nearby, but there are also big shopping malls. The shopping malls, apart from shops, are made up of cinemas, libraries, food-courts and huge supermarkets at the size of a factory. Definitely Auckland is busy and developed, however that is before five ‘o clock in the afternoon, when all the shops close! If you stroll on the streets after 5 ‘o clock, there are only a few shops having lights up and the majority of them are bars. The city center of Auckland is where most interesting activities happen. Auckland University is situated in the city center, ranking in top 100 in world university rankings. However residing in the city center is often considered a luxury and people either choose to share rent with a friend or carpool from home to school. The Landmark, also one of the main tourist attractions of Auckland and is situated in the city center. Also, there is The Sky City Tower with casinos, hotels and a buffet near the top of the tower, and also the marvelous scenery of many sailboats floating in the harbor, giving Auckland the name of ‘City Of Sails’. Auckland is lot more fun than I could describe with my words, the fun is something you feel in the atmosphere which fills every bubble in your body and the words seem can seem plain to describe such fun. Next time,

The local places are really cheap and way better than anything we could cook. After a few months here we’ve got a couple of places we’ve been too over a dozen times. They are all family owned and when we walk in, they remember us and

CHINESE Learning

By 寇妮 Connie Hesper Albrecht, Overseas

A lot of foreign students remember their first time in China. As an overseas student, I’ve asked plenty of people what their first impression was, but most importantly, how they took the fact that they had to learn Chinese as soon as possible and a fast as they could. At first it can be difficult if there’s not many people from your country or if your English is bad or you’re just bad at languages to begin with. But that’s fine; we’ve all gone through it. Eventually it becomes a problem when you see that in class most teachers will talk in Chinese, (even if sometimes they’re supposed to talk in English!) So obviously there is a rush to learn the language, a language that is particularity difficult in every aspect from reading and writing to listening and speaking.

1 Start Easy Just relax. If you’re shoving it inside your head because you’re 18 and the HSK exam is in a semester, you’re doing it wrong. Learning a language takes time, and whoever is making you learn this needs to understand that you have to start counting 1 to 10 and repeat it 10 more times before slowly dipping yourself into what is Chinese. This takes us to step 2.

So what to do, you’d say? It’s not that hard if you start step by step. Here’s some advice I recollected from my own experiences, to others and from teachers themselves.

24

2 Break down the characters

3 Use it

Even if you don’t understand it, your head needs to comprehend the challenge you’re putting in front of it. Begin by looking at the components, and how basic syllables in Chinese sound like. They only have one vocal, that’s something, and most of them are alike. Accents are only 4 (super simple!) and when you know the order of strokes and what components mean, you’re ready to go.

If there’s a lot of people that can speak your native language, you might feel tempted and resign to use your own language to talk. I had in the past and still have, classmates that use their native language most of the time, making their Chinese a nuisance of a language for them. This is wrong. For people who are especially troubled about Chinese, they need to use it, even if it might be embarrassing to make mistakes or useless when speaking to people they could perfectly talk in English to. It doesn’t really matter, the more you use it, the better.

4 Surround yourself with it

5 And finally, don’t give up!

Even if you don’t understand it, the deeper you are in Chinese culture and people the better it is for you to get used to it. Make friends with other fellow native students, talk with Chinese teachers, go out to festivals and engage awkward conversations with shopkeepers and waitresses. You are in the best environment possible to learn Chinese. Take an advantage of it.

It sounds cheesy, but it’s true. Some people are leaving at the end of the

CULTURE

month, which makes them believe that there’s no point in making effort, but I think you should use every second you have to do your best and study. Even if tomorrow’s your last day and you’ll never set foot in China again. I think that being able to tell someone that you know Chinese is just the best thing ever, and you don’t have to share my opinion, but I trust whoever your parents are that nice grades are also pretty good things. These grades buy your cellphones and computers, so get cracking.

DEEP FRIED TURKEY AMERICAN RECIPE

I have been deep frying turkeys since 1997. In 2011 I fried a total of 22 turkeys for the holidays. Nine of those were fried within a single event. Over the 15 years I have fried close to 100 turkeys and only once has the outcome been less than desirable. Along with deep-frying I have also smoked, baked and barbecued turkeys. My favorite is deep-fried.

HOW TO GIVE A SPEECH There are many different reasons why being able to give a good speech is important for your future career. The first is the fact that good speakers are usually entrusted with more responsibilities. If you can express yourself well; you can usually get a better job in the future. Leaders or executives of companies are required to give speeches to their employees to discipline, enlighten or motivate them. Great leaders must also be able to express themselves so that their ideas can be understood clearly. The skill of giving good speeches is also helpful when you are expressing yourself; which can be useful for many different situations such as coursework, job interviews and university admissions. In what ways can you improve your speech making abilities?

HOW TO OVERCOME PROCRASTINATION There’s a big test coming up in the next few weeks. You have plenty of time to study if you manage your time well. Day after day goes by. You’ve got plenty of time—so you don’t worry about it. Why should you worry over something so far away? You tell yourself you can always study the night before. Sooner than later, the testing day arrives. You’ll stay up half the night studying. You’ll stress yourself out because you didn’t take the time to prepare. When it’s all said and done—you’ll fail or get a lower score than your capable of getting. Procrastination is the act of waiting to do things until the last minute. It’s a problem that effects hundreds of millions of people across the world: businessmen, students, doctors and lawyers. No one is safe from this bad habit.

Here are a few techniques to save yourself from waking up the day before something is due and worrying about it.

HOW TO WRITE A GOOD SONG I’ve been writing music on my own for the last seven years. I will admit that composing a song with lyrics is the single most challenging thing I have probably ever done In my entire life. To get the right balance of melody, lyrics, rhythm and harmonies into a three minute song is outrageously difficult. I have written music again and again only to feel that the either the melody or the riff doesn’t work. I will then throw away the entire song and start over again. Over this for almost a decade—I think I can give you a pointers while writing your own songs.

I say, “Congratulations Stanford. College Football is exciting every single week. It is always about the matchups!” The worst thing about my Ducks losing was that I had scheduled my day so that I could watch the game on ABC. Since the Ducks were playing at 7:00 pm PST, 11/17 that meant that game time would be 11:00 am 11/18 Sunday. I awoke that morning at 7:00 am and set my computer to Comcast.net. Since my wife has Comcast back home I was able to sign in on my computer and watch the live feed of many games. I say many games because unless the Ducks are playing I am a huge channel surfer. The speed and accuracy of my remote control, control is impeccable. I almost never miss a score in any of the five games I will be watching. I will have my back button set, the forward button set, plus reminders set for the other three games. All of the action is only a single click away.

American in China you sometimes just have to make adjustments. So the decision was made to take the train up to Guangzhou, sit in Starbucks and then shop at the local mall after the game. Sadly when we arrived at Starbucks I found out that the only source of Ducks football was playby-play gamecast through ESPN. IT HAD TO DO!!! We sat in Starbucks for an hour or so and watched the gamecast as Oregon missed the field goal. At this point I closed my computer. It was time. It was time to go shopping and allow the outcome of the game to be finished without my attention. It had been a day of excitement, trepidation, hesitation, confusion, disappointment and fatigue. Although I had not seen the end of the game I knew the ending. As we walked at of Starbucks I looked at my brother Rusty and said, “The Ducks just lost.” But being the true fan I immediately said, “Well if the Ducks win next week and Norte Dame loses then……..” Every week the possibilities are endless…..I LOVE THIS GAME!! Big Ben By Jason Ault, MYP teacher

During my time in London; I met many interesting people. One such person that I will always remember was a homeless old man that lived in a small park near parliament next to the Thames river. The locals called him Ben and he was quite famous in the area. He was somewhat of a local attraction for tourists and it was difficult to miss him. He had a long black mess of tangled hair and a deep rumbling voice, complete with a thick cockney accent. Ben was a local attraction for tourists because of his quick temper and random acts of violence. He had been arrested on multiple occasions for throwing bottles and trash at people, cars and even getting into fights. He was threatened several times by local police but he didn’t seem to care. No one knew what problem Ben had, but it may have been his age. Ben was 79 years old of course. I’ll never forget the first time I saw Ben. He got into a fight with a passing biker. The biker had ridden his bicycle next to a bench Ben was sitting on. Ben erupted into this fury; yelling at the young man. Two police officers closed in quickly and held Ben down as he frantically tried to free himself. “What a sad scene,” I thought. “There must be some reason why an old man like that is living on the streets.” I mentioned the thought to another film-making friend and we discussed the idea of making Ben the subject of a documentary we were working on concerning the homeless in London. We mutually agreed that while the idea was good; actually achieving it would be painfully difficult. Ben was known for being incredibly uncooperative when it came to talking to people. Filming him was going to be impossible. Ben didn’t seem to be driven by the need for money because he had turned down handouts more than once. “Why don’t we offer him a free meal and a night in a hotel?” I proposed. My colleague liked the idea so we planned on approaching Ben at the end of the month. Ben would be a great center story for the documentary. I wanted to get an interview about his earlier life and how he began living on the streets. A few weeks later; I returned to the parliament building and nervously approached Ben with my colleague. Ben saw us and quickly stood up. He was still fast for an old man. I asked him if it would be okay if he could answer a few questions. I even offered to buy him the hotel room. Ben looked into my eyes as I spoke. I could see the crinkled ridge of his forehead hidden by his thick tangled mane of hair. I can’t describe to you how lifeless his eyes were. It was the first time I’d ever seen eyes so cold, so dull; conditioned to hate for reasons I couldn’t understand. “Get outta here ya bugger,” He yelled. Ben flopped down on the ground next to a bush and pretended to sleep. I turned to my college with a frown. Was this as far as it was going to go? Devastated, I tried to explain again, but Ben wasn’t listening. My friend and I eventually returned home, defeated. We decided to give up on Ben for the documentary. It wasn’t worth trying to film someone that wasn’t willing to cooperate.

SHORT STORIES

Six months later, long after the incident had been forgotten; I was walking next to the parliament. It was nearing Christmas and very cold outside. I zipped up my jacket as a cold wind swept past. Christmas lights and decorations were strung up all over the streets and the feeling of the holiday was in the air. I watched a few snowflakes drifting down to the street when I saw Ben out of the corner of my eye. He was standing next to a street lamp coughing heavily. He called out to me: “Are you still interested in that interview?” The documentary was cancelled because he had refused to help us six months before, but I could see that Ben was suffering in the cold. Sometimes a little white lie can bring happiness to people. “Do you have time?” I asked. “Maybe just enough.” He replied. I took Ben to a local hotel and set up a room. I didn’t have any camera with me so I used a pencil like a reporter to note down the story. Ben sat across from me and ate a large serving of mashed potatoes and steak from the room service cart while he told me a tale I would never forget. “When I was a kid, my mother and father owned a shipping company along the Thames River. My father was wealthy back then so living was easy. I didn’t care much for working in his company though. I wanted to start my own. I wasn’t sure what it would be; maybe a bike company. I loved bicycles back then. I used to take mine apart all the time just to see if I could put it back together. The real reason I wanted to start my own company though was because of this girl..” Ben’s eyes glazed over. I could see his mind drift from the room. He was remembering her. “She was a real great girl. Great girl’s don’t come that often. I was lucky.” “Was she beautiful?” I asked. “Of course she was beautiful! She wouldn’t be with me if I didn’t think so!” Ben laughed as he ate. It was the first time I, or anyone had ever seen him

have; covered in scarred scratches and forgotten burns. The kind of scars you could only get if you shoved your hands into burning wood and rubble to pull out the person you loved. “I was lucky.. I was lucky.”

laugh. A hearty deep laugh that was refreshing to hear. The old man could finally relax after a long time of suffering. It seemed that Ben really wasn’t this cold person that everyone made him out to be. In truth, he was simply a troubled man; trying to find peace with a troubled past—and perhaps it was his past that made him the way he was. “We were near parliament right there on the corner where I saw you tonight.” He finished eating and pushed the room service cart away, wiped his mouth“. She was standing there in a long white dress. Her hair was tied up in a bonnet. I was this filthy boy. I had been working in my fathers shipping company all day and I had promised to take her out to dinner. “Didn’t you have a change of clothes?” I asked. “I didn’t have time. We had to get around by foot or bike back then. The tube was as crowded then as it is now. My bike chain snapped that morning. I just ran out to parliament and met her, pulled out this diamond ring from my pocket and got down on one knee.” “Wait, you asked her to marry you? That’s great!” Ben looked at the far wall and frowned. We both sat in silence in the hotel room. Outside you could faintly hear the bustling of Picadilly Circus as many people rounded the streets to finish their Christmas shopping. “Maybe she wasn’t ready? “ I added sorrowfully. “That’s when London was bombed,” He interrupted. I sat up, surprised. Did I just hear him right? I was confused. “I’m sorry, what did you say?” “We were right there at Parliament when the bombs hit. One of them hit the ground not far from us, tearing apart a building; sending shrapnel, wood and rock all over the street. The force of that explosion was strong; it sent me through a shop window. I don’t remember much after that, except the smell of smoke. I had a broken leg, but that was lucky—considering.” “—but your girl! She…” I stopped myself. Tears were welling up in Ben’s eyes. I could hear him crying. His sniffling was soft but could be heard between his labored breaths. He ran his rough weathered hands over top of one another. It was the first time I had looked at them closely. They were the kind of hands a hero would

It was all he could say and I could say nothing. What could I say? I could utter no more to make him feel better. His heartache was older than I was. It was something he had been battling all his life. I was hearing story that he had replayed for himself longer than I had existed. “Thank you, ” Ben said as he wiped his eyes with a towel from the room service cart. “I never told anyone that story. It means a lot to have someone listen.” “I didn’t say anything though—there’s nothing I could say,” I admitted. “You did enough just by listening. Actually, I feel so much better. I kind of wish I told someone sooner.” And then Ben did something extraordinary. He sat back—and smiled. The tears were still staining his wrinkled face; now with this revived smile, that maybe would have lived on had things been different. “Do me a favor,” Ben said. “Let things that happen in the past—stay in the past. Life is too short to relive what’s already happened.” I nodded my head. It was probably the best I’d ever heard. I can’t imagine Ben had ever given anyone advice before. So I took it to heart. I left the hotel room and went home; thinking about all that Ben had told me that night. The extraordinary story he told me; the experience I had while listening. It was something I would forever cherish. The next day; surprisingly, I got a call. When I picked up the phone I was surprised to find a London police detective speaking from the other end. “Hello, sir—I’m calling about the room you rented at the Piccadilly Circus hotel last night.” I was really nervous. What did Ben to his room? Did he destroy it? Did he steal something? I could only imagine the worst. “Yes, I rented a room there last night for a friend, is there anything wrong?” “I’m sorry to inform you sir, but unfortunately your friend passed away last night. We don’t suspect murder or anything. He was an elderly man.. Are you his family member?” I couldn’t reply… was it really true? The police officer asked again and I tried to fight back the tears. “No, he dosen’t have any family.” “Where did he live? Is his home nearby?” “He didn’t have a home.” “Where was he staying?” “He was homeless… He lived in a park near Parliament”. The detected faded away as I stared at the wall holding the phone. The last night Ben lived was the night he told me the story of his life. I cried because I was the last person he told. The story he couldn’t tell anyone—he told to me. Big Ben, the man that couldn’t find a friend in anyone—found a friend in me. And I would forever hold a part of his life. I sat there that day; thinking of the smile he showed me that night—a smile I hope cleared his heart of pain and helped him rest well that cool night.

The next day, everyone was discussing those ‘disappearing’ news stories. It seemed there was even more cases of them. It seems that everything was disappearing, but the strange thing was that they still existed. Jack knew something was going to happen soon but he couldn’t think much of it because he was scheduled to go to summer camp and he would be really busy training. That night, Jack didn’t sleep well so he woke up and looked into the sky. That’s when he saw something incredibly. He saw millions of tiny little dots coming toward the campsite. Those dots

hid behind a big rock near the river. Incredibly, the alien who ran after Jack too ran away. It seemed that he was scared of something. Jack chose to be brave and he tested what he though. He spread water to those aliens who lined up in a uniform line. Horrible screams could be heard. “So that’s what they fear! I just saved the Earth!” Those aliens escaped to the sky and they could not be seen after they changed. Into tiny dots again. Soon, it rained and all things which disappeared could be seen by others now. Everything was back to normal and the invisible army would never come to the Earth again. By 周紫岚 Jessica, MYP 9(EE)

I was drying my hair while thinking of what my friends and I could do today. Suddenly I smelt something burning. I looked around but the smell was coming from me. I looked down at my hair and felt a sudden shock. Half of my hair was burnt and it smelled really bad. I didn’t know what to do, so I started crying. I only had 20 minutes until I was going out to meet my friends. My mind was in such a hurry, but there was nothing I could possibly do! I went downstairs to my mom who was in the kitchen. As she saw me she was in such a shock

there was no way I would meet them in this state. I hurried with my mom to the hairdresser. The hairdresser didn’t look so happy when he saw me. He asked us how he could help. My mom told him to cut my hair so that the burnt part wouldn’t be seen. He did ass my mom told him. My hair was now only half of the length it used to be, but I wasn’t as upset anymore because this short hairstyle actually semed to sut me! I liked it and so did my mom. I now had a big smile on my face and thought tahnks to the hairdryer that I got a makeover. By 李承洲 Legina, 9(7)EE

FORTUNE TELLER How to make:

How to play:

Step 1: Cut along the outside lines of the large square so that there is no excess paper.

Step 1: Ask your partner to pose a Yes or No question.

Step 2: Fold the square in half both ways so that the creases form a center point. Step 4: Place the printed side down and fold all four corners into the center so that the unprinted side is hidden. Step 5: Flip the square over and fold all four corners in again along the diagonal lines so that is becomes a smaller square. Step 6: Fold the square in half so that all the triangles are inside and only the square flaps are on the outside.

Step 2: Ask your partner to choose a color. Spell out the color while putting the fortune teller back and forth in your fingers. Step 3: Ask your partner to choose one of the numbers showing up on the fortune teller. Count up to the number (starting with 1) out loud, while pulling the fortune teller back and forth in your fingers. Step 4: Ask your partner to choose one of the numbers showing up in the fortune teller, and to follow the directions next to that number. Step 5: Life the flap and read the answer under that number.

Step 7: Slide your fingers under the four flaps. Pinch the paper underneath until it takes the shape of a fortune teller!
