GAYNES PARK

Floral

SPRING WEDDING After the perfect proposal on a Mexican beach at sunrise, Maria and Chris were set for a romantic wedding at Gaynes Park. They certainly didn’t disappoint!

The First Step

Setting the Style

Dreaming of a countryside wedding, Maria and Chris were on the lookout for wedding venues with beautiful views over rolling hills. ‘We came across Gaynes Park and booked a viewing,’ explains Maria. ‘As soon as we got there, we knew it was exactly what we were looking for. Even though it was a cold November day, the venue looked stunning.’

Steering clear of a prescribed colour scheme, the happy couple chose a neutral palette with delicate pastel tones to create their relaxed, rustic styled wedding. Spring is Maria’s favourite season so a May date was chosen in the hope that it might also be warm and sunny.

2018 WEDDING GUIDE | 14

Creative Touches

Bridal Attire

Maria and Chris decided to make some of the decorations themselves, starting with a vintage-styled table plan created using a photo frame, floral paper, gold spray paint and a ‘Mr & Mrs Moore’ sign.

Maria came across her dress at a wedding fair. ‘I was looking for a fitted mermaid style dress and it made me feel absolutely stunning,’ she says. To accessorise, she wore a brooch from her late grandmother as her ‘something old’ and earrings from her mother as her ‘something borrowed’. ‘My ‘something blue’ was the bow on my garter!’ she smiles. An elegant hair comb completed the look.

Venue stylists, Mediterranean Occasions, provided lace lamp shades which looked fabulous hanging from the beams of the Mill Barn. Chairs were adorned with lace bows and the tables with lace runners. ‘The venue looked magical,’ smiles Maria. ‘We also had a large illuminated ‘LOVE’ sign on the dance floor which proved popular with guests as a selfie spot throughout the night!’ Other thoughtful details included a wishing tree, a wooden card box and Russian dolls - a nod to Maria’s Russian background in an otherwise traditional English wedding.

In keeping with the relaxed vibe of the wedding, the groom and his ushers chose three-piece suits instead of traditional morning suits, choosing a shade of blue to suit the spring colour palette. Maria’s two adult bridesmaids wore sage-coloured dresses and nude heels, perfectly suited to the natural theme.

“ As soon as we got there, we knew it was exactly what we were looking for. Even though it was a cold November day, the venue looked stunning.

All About Flowers

Let Us Entertain You

Beautiful spring blooms were a key element of this pretty wedding, particularly in the Orangery, set for the ceremony. One of the trees along the aisle was decorated with a rustic birdcage filled with flowers and the ceremony table was adorned with roses and foliage.

50 further guests arrived for the evening celebrations and the party started. Choosing ‘Toothpaste Kisses’ by The Maccabees, Chris and Maria danced their first dance, choreographed themselves after watching a number of routines on You Tube! A DJ filled the dancefloor and guests were entertained with a photobooth in the style of a wooden shack. ‘It went so well with the theme and the venue,’ says Maria.

Order of the Day Following a romantic civil ceremony, canapés were served in the Orangery alongside fruity Pimm’s served in quirky jam jars. Guests were then invited to enjoy the wedding breakfast in the Mill Barn before the evening celebrations began. Cake, Glorious Cake! An on-trend naked cake was a stunning addition to the day, with red velvet and French sponge, strawberries and cream layers. Favours were individual boxes filled with macaroons alongside Russian doll keyrings. ‘Our younger guests absolutely loved these!’ says Maria.

Not Quite To Plan… The concept of a sunny spring wedding suddenly changed when the weather forecast showed heavy rain all day long! ‘It didn’t impact anything,’ says Maria. ‘We still had the most perfect wedding and definitely didn’t shy away from our outdoor photo shoot!’

Colour Palettes

A new year means new colour trends and it looks like 2018 is set to be a beautiful one! With Pantone releasing a number of new palettes that are set to be popular this year, we thought we’d pick just a few that would be ideal for your special day, no matter what season you get married.

SUMMER

Bright, playful and fun, this would be ideal for a light-hearted and relaxing wedding day. Each shade of this colourful palette can be used in combinations to create a rainbow effect. Alternatively, pick one and run with it to add pops of colour throughout your day.

SPRING

These soft and subtle colours would be beautiful for a spring wedding. Muted shades paired with bolder accents provide relaxation with a touch of flair. Pale pinks, yellow and green bring the outside in, evoking fresh gardens and budding trees.

AUTUMN

R

TE N I W

Just because it’s autumn, it doesn’t mean you have to go all dark and gloomy. Combine woody reds with bold pinks and neutral shades to bring colour and depth to your day. Pick a few and reflect the glorious colours of nature at this time of year.

Bold is beautiful when it comes to winter weddings. This palette holds rich shades to add plenty of colour to your day, even if it’s grey outside. A wintry bouquet with a number of these tones would look truly magical as you walk down the aisle, while strong purple and warm red will make an inviting décor.

2018 WEDDING GUIDE | 25

ARIEL LIMOR ROSEN ELSA BO & LUCA

Petite brides should opt for simple, minimalistic dresses that will show off their small frame. Ariel by Limor Rosen, with a structured skirt and pronounced waistline is great for tiny figures. Stay away from ballgowns and mermaid dresses which tend to overwhelm the body and go for less fabric to make you look taller. Elsa from the newly launched Bo & Luca collection is a perfect choice.

A floaty skirt with a slight train can give the illusion of a smaller figure while embroidered sleeves will help create upper/lower body symmetry. A sheath dress with a higher neckline, such as our Sofia dress, is a preferred choice for brides who want to look long and lean. If your hips are wider than your shoulders, accentuate your torso by wearing very thin straps or a strapless gown.

SOFIA LUELLA’S OWN

GET THAT

Sharp GourroBoigmDayStyle On Y

So the big day’s approaching and it’s time to get your wedding style sorted, but do you know your options? There’s more choice than ever when it comes to what to wear when you tie the knot, so take a long hard look at yourself and see what groom style suits you. Let’s take a look at the different styles out there and see if we can help you find the right one for your wedding day.

Traditional The traditional or formal style is still the most common choice when it comes to the groom suit. Traditionally, only a morning suit (or tails) are acceptable on your wedding day, but nowadays ‘formal' includes two and three-piece suits as well, giving you a few more options. This style best suits a grand setting like a castle or elegant country house, and a day that’s full of sophistication.

Rustic/Country Definitely a popular choice recently that's less formal than traditional styles yet smart and stylish on your big day. It's a great way to look a bit different and obvious works perfectly at a country barn venue or rural country house. Think tweeds, check shirts, waistcoats and neutral colours for an awesome rustic look. It works well for anyone who wants to combine style with a relaxed vibe, as well as grooms who have the country at heart!

2018 WEDDING GUIDE | 28

Casual

This groom’s style is for the more relaxed man because not everyone looks fully at ease in a formal suit. Just like with the traditional style, there are different levels of casualness that you need to consider. Ditch the tie, the jacket or the formal shoes and bring in braces, trainers and even shorts depending on how chilled you want to be. Laid-back barns are perfect for this look, but just make sure your partner is on board with the level of informality before you commit!

Boho A boho groom wants to do things a bit differently. We’re not talking too wacky or out there, but we’re also definitely not talking traditional morning suits either. Try working with different colours or alternative materials for a unique look, or even consider ditching the jacket for a slightly more relaxed approach. Make as big or as little a statement as you like (think colourful knitted tie compared to emerald green suit), it’s really up to you and your personality. Contemporary country houses or stylish barns are ideal.

CURRADINE BARNS

Springtime WEDDING

Becky and Jonathan’s wedding at Curradine Barns wedding featured a floral springtime colour scheme and romantic rustic details.

The Perfect Venue Setting their sights on a March wedding, Becky and Jonathan were looking for their dream venue. ‘We don’t like being the centre of attention so were looking for somewhere with a relaxed atmosphere,’ explains Becky. ‘Curradine was the perfect backdrop. We felt we didn’t need to add to it.’

With a laid-back attitude to their wedding style, a theme of lilac and purple was the initial choice. ‘It’s a lovely colour and both our mum’s love it,’ smiles Becky, ‘but towards the end there were definitely a few other shades thrown in!’

2018 WEDDING GUIDE | 30

Bridal Style

Say it with Flowers

Becky chose her beautiful Wendy Makin gown on her first appointment at The Dressing Rooms bridal boutique. ‘I actually found my shoes before my dress which is silly, but I fell in love with them!’ she laughs.

The beautiful seasonal blooms embraced the beginning of spring. Becky’s bouquet in white, lilac and green was given a splash of sunshine with the addition of yellow roses and hand tied with luxurious lilac ribbon. Continuing the theme of lilac and purple, these shades then combined with pinks and foliage in the table centres and the same florals were echoed throughout the wedding stationery.

After browsing online for weeks, Becky found fabulous bridesmaid dresses for her two bridesmaids from ASOS. The embellishment complemented the beadwork on her dress and they added ribbon to complete the look. The bridesmaids also wore Swarovski necklaces, a gift from the bride on the morning of the wedding.

A colourful paper flower curtain in the Barley Barn completed the look.

“ It was being announced as husband and wife and seeing all our friends and family smiling back at us. We’d finally done it.

2018 WEDDING GUIDE | 31

A Quirky Cake

Favourite Moments

Deciding against a traditional cake, the happy couple did something a little different. ‘Jonny and I often go for walks in the countryside and stop at a local bakery for delicious raspberry brownies,’ says Becky. ‘They didn’t bat an eyelid when we asked for 80 brownies for our wedding!’ A small red velvet cake sat beside the brownies for that cake-cutting moment, adorned with cat cake toppers made by Becky.

‘For me, it was being announced as husband and wife and seeing all our friends and family smiling back at us,’ says Becky. ‘We’d finally done it and all our hard work had come in to fruition!’

Styling YOUR WEDDING VENUE When planning your wedding, you will no doubt be considering your style and colour scheme. While this might sound a little daunting, once you’ve decided on your favourite look, it’s relatively easy to incorporate it. To offer a little inspiration, we’ve chosen four of the most popular wedding themes and found some of our favourite designs. It’s time to get creative!

2018 WEDDING GUIDE | 34

Boho Wedding

When considering your décor, bring the outside in as much as possible. If you’re able to have an outdoor ceremony or outdoor drinks reception, even better! You might even use leaves as place names or give your wedding cake a woodland theme!

Informality is key to a boho theme. While your day may well be structured, it shouldn’t feel like it. Flowers should have that ‘just picked’ look and be completely in season.

Traditional Elegance A traditional scene can be created in any setting, from a stately home venue to a rustic barn. The classic white wedding to the left creates a breathtaking look and can still be contemporary in style.

nd exciting, The word ‘traditional’ doesn’t sou ddings, tradition but it should! In the world of we and goes hand in hand with elegance understated glamour.

Flowers are often more formal in arrangement, and a candelabra makes a stunning centrepiece. We love the simplicity of the stacked flower cake above. Of course you can add your chosen colour through different flowers! Your place settings should have an air of tradition, hinting at an elegant dining experience.

All About Vintage

ings A few years ago, vintage wedd dcages were all about shabby chic, bir and teacups. Today couples are les, choosing different eras and sty mes to from ‘Great Gatsby’ Art Deco the quirky retro inspired weddings.

FLORAL

Even your food should suit the style. We love this Art Deco dessert table. And, of course, a good florist should create floral arrangements that are perfectly in keeping with the look.

Set the scene with stationery from your chosen era and make sure your outfits also suit the theme! Vintage china is a great way to introduce the style to your tables. You might even use teapots as vases! Add quirky extras such as a vintage ice cream van or a retro photobooth.

A semi-naked cake is a great idea for a rustic wedding. Use wooden boards with fresh flowers for signs and milk churns to make marvellous vases.

Hessian is the fabric of choice. We love the table runner above! As day turns to night, hang lanterns from the trees and consider outdoor seating on hay bales.

The SculpTure Gallery Woburn abbey

Set in the beautiful grounds of Woburn Abbey, The Sculpture Gallery, constructed during 1789 and 1790 for the fifth Duke of Bedford with its own private rose garden and lake is one of the most majestic and elegant settings imaginable for wedding ceremonies and receptions up to 250 guests with exclusive use of the venue. The Sculpture Gallery provides the perfect backdrop to create those all important special memories.

MORDEN HALL

Glam

CITY WEDDING Living in the south of France, Hazel and Michael decided to marry in London but chose their outfits in Italy! Their timeless style and elegance transformed Morden Hall with spectacular results.

Setting the Scene

All About Outfits

Hazel and Michael were looking for a venue with beautiful outside space for their July wedding and soon found Morden Hall. ‘We loved that it was a private venue with beautiful interior design and a lovely garden,’ says Hazel. ‘We were attracted by the elegant, relaxed vibe and being so close to the tube was a great advantage.’

The graceful bride chose an off-the-shoulder ball gown from Rosa Clara. Hazel travelled to Italy to buy her gown and also her delicate baby pink shoes. She completed the look with pearl earrings and a pearl necklace, a gift from Michael’s grandmother. Her bridesmaids looked striking in long pearlcoloured dresses with wrist flowers. As for the groom, Michael wore a tailor-made suit from Italy with a bow tie from Australia.

Wedding Style

Just the Two of Us

Embracing the outdoors, a theme of simplicity and greenery was the order of the day, with shades of yellow and green introduced to the venue. Over 100 large balloons with tassels adorned the venue along with beautiful flowers, while garden games entertained the guests.

The happy couple had a blessing at Morden Hall so wrote their own vows. ‘Michael’s grandfather read us a passage from the Bible that focuses on love,’ explains Hazel. ‘He and Michael’s grandmother have been married for over 60 years!’

“ We loved that it was a private venue with beautiful interior design and a lovely garden.

2018 WEDDING GUIDE | 44

Time to Celebrate Following the blessing, guests enjoyed Gin Berry Fizz and an Apple Julep mocktail with delicious canapés including crispy fried squid and spiced lamb kofta. The wedding breakfast began with seared scallops, minted pea puree, crisp pancetta and pea shoots followed by grilled fillet of halibut with potato rosti. As an alternative main, guests could also choose fillet of Scotch beef with potato dauphinoise. For pudding, a trio of desserts included panna cotta, dark chocolate tart and a seasonal fruit salad.

For drinks, Hazel and Michael chose to have beer drums and extra Prosecco. ‘The events team were super helpful and created exactly what we wanted,’ says Hazel. A Step in Time The newlyweds danced to ‘A Thousand Years’ by Christina Perri. ‘We didn’t want to take it too seriously and get stressed about the first dance,’ smiles Hazel. ‘We tried to keep it simple… and fun!’

FROM THE HEART

BLOW THEM AWAY

Handwritten letters are incredibly memorable so take the time to write a heartfelt note and make her day.

What could be a better way to ‘pop’ the question than with a personalised balloon?

WITH BUBBLES Nothing says celebration quite like Champagne so have a bottle delivered to your friend along with a very special card and question.

PAMPER THEM Organise a pampering event for your girls and make sure they get their ‘something blue’ manicure.

POP THE QUESTION, LITERALLY Find out if your guys are ‘up for the task’ with a fun balloon that will definitely make them smile.

WITH GIFTS Your groomsmen are going to need to get themselves polished up for the big day so why not give them some cufflinks?

THE ESSENTIALS Create a kit of all those important essentials for groomsmen and include a note that asks ‘the question’.

WITH PAMPERING Get prepped for the big day with a little male pampering – a brand new shaving kit can pop the question AND it will help everyone look good!

TIE THE KNOT Everyone loves looking dapper, so gift them a tie and all the instructions they need to perfect the skill before your wedding.

WRITE IT DOWN Funny, sarcastic or even a little bit emotional, there’s a huge range of cards out there that will help you ask your groomsmen in style.

RAISE A GLASS If your groomsman-to-be likes a tipple, create a personalised label for a bottle of their favourite drink.

WITH MEMORIES A personalised print of your best memories together will definitely make your guys smile – especially when they check out the last line.

BEHIND THE SCENES AT

THE TYTHE BARN •

Launton •

There is so much more to a wedding venue than what you see on your big day! We spoke to Emma from The Tythe Barn, an exquisite thatched venue in the idyllic Oxfordshire countryside, to find out what goes on behind the scenes and how they constantly produce the finest weddings. Working in the wedding industry is amazing! Getting to see couples as they take their vows together, surrounded by all of their close family and friends is a real joy. We make sure to get to know the couples really well by the time the wedding day arrives that we almost feel part of their family too! However, running a wedding venue can be hard work and is definitely a full-time business in every sense of the word! Running The Tythe Barn is much more than a weekend job. The truth is that our venue is always a hub of activity and the whole team are flat out throughout the week, the weekend and most evenings too! The specialists in the main office are always busy speaking to couples and replying to hundreds of emails and enquiries. They require expert knowledge to give answers on the finest of details so they can ensure that

brides and grooms know all the amazing features that The Tythe Barn offers. Meanwhile downstairs, the Function Manager will be holding the all-important ‘run through’ meeting with the couple and their parents. They will be going over every aspect of their wedding and discussing each detail to make sure it goes completely to plan. Our gardeners will be outside mowing lawns, raking the gravel and watering plants so the venue’s grounds look their best at all times, while a constant flow of deliveries will be arriving in the kitchen. The up-keep of the barn is essential and maintaining a high quality approach throughout is fundamental to make sure we continue to produce the highest standard of weddings possible.

2018 WEDDING GUIDE | 50

Running The Tythe Barn is very much a family affair, and we think the love and care we put into the venue makes it extra special for couples. My role is a varied one. Most days I focus on the advertising and marketing of our venue; liaising with magazines, photographers and online businesses, or tweaking our website and designing our brochures. Much of the marketing these days involves a lot of social media coverage too, and all of this is essential to ensuring that potential couples can get a good idea of what makes The Tythe Barn so special. I am also responsible for the interior design of the barn, The Nook and our luxurious bridal suite - The Hut. It’s a part of my job that I absolutely love, especially when I get to see a couple’s reaction when they first set eyes on it all.

Will takes the role of problem-solver here, and there isn’t an issue he can’t fix. Whether it’s a maintenance task or a bride’s favourite wine not being delivered, he won’t stop until he’s made sure everything is perfect. We can’t forget about Reg, our rather lovable dog, either. He is our ‘meet and greet’ expert and is always at Will’s side! Our team will be with you through it all, from your visit to the day of your wedding, always ready to help and create the perfect day with you. I can confidently say that our staff give their all, all of the time. We are passionate about the barn and work incredibly hard to ensure that every single wedding we host is ‘just right’ every time. Everybody involved lives and breathes The Tythe Barn, but we wouldn’t have it any other way. It’s what sets us apart from the other venues around!

If you would like to find out more about this magical barn venue in Oxfordshire or to arrange to experience it for yourself, call the friendly team on 01869 321442 or visit their website thetythebarn.co.uk

FOR BUYING YOUR WEDDING RINGS There are only a few things that you get to keep after your wedding day and, unlike your dress, you’ll wear your rings day after day so it’s super important that they’re perfect for you. Check out these top tips for getting your wedding rings right!

GETTING STARTED Budget Your wedding rings are a lasting symbol of your marriage, so think carefully about what you can afford to spend on them. Certain metals are more expensive than others but you’ll find rings to suit all budgets.

Size A wedding ring that’s too tight or too loose is absolutely not want you want! Even if you’re buying your rings online, it can be a good idea to get your finger properly measured so you know what size to order.

Lifestyle It’s really important to consider your lifestyle so if you’re super active or work with your hands, you might want a ring with smooth edges and made in a tough metal. 2018 WEDDING GUIDE | 54

FINDING YOUR STYLE Picking a metal Gold has long been the traditional choice but more and more couples are opting for platinum or titanium rings. Jewellers recommend that your engagement ring and wedding ring are made of the same material to stop one wearing the other. If you’re worried about scratches, platinum could be perfect. This metal doesn’t actually wear away so marks can just be polished out.

Jewelled For a touch of sparkle, why not choose a jewelled ring? Diamond set bands are really popular and you can select the shape, placement and number of stones.

Plain These come in a wide range of metals and are great if you want something beautifully simple.

CONSIDER YOUR LIFESTYLE

Decorative These designs bring a little extra flair so opt for grooves, bevelled edges, engraving or bolder decorative patterns.

CERTAIN METALS ARE MORE EXPENSIVE

Dual metal If you can’t decide what metal you’d like, a dual metal ring is the answer! Two bands are essentially combined together which is pretty symbolic don’t you think?

Alternative There’s no need to stick to tradition if you don’t want to. How about rings made from woods or ceramic combinations? Sandcast and brushed metal rings are also popular.

Shaped Ideal for wearing with engagement rings, these wedding bands will fit perfectly alongside. Most jewellers will have a range that you can try on or you can order something specific if your need a more specialist fit.

TAKING CARE

INSURE THEM

Insure them! As soon as you bring your wedding rings home, make sure that they’re added to your home contents insurance. Keep them safe Find a safe spot to store your rings (that you won’t forget about) and avoid having too many ‘practice runs’ of wearing them. You want your rings to be as shiny as possible for your ceremony.

Stacking rings Create your own unique combination of rings and stack them up in any style or metal you like. We love the idea of adding to your collection as you reach more milestones in your relationship.

Don’t leave them behind! Make sure that they’re on your list of things to bring with you to the wedding because it’s easy to forget them if they’re tucked away! Bespoke If you’d like a truly unique ring then why not design your own? This is a great experience and something very special to do together, plus you can be sure that no one will have a ring like yours!

Keep them clean Don’t forget to give your rings some attention after your wedding. Clean rings with stones carefully in warm water with a soft toothbrush, while a polishing cloth is perfect for plain bands.

RIVERVALE BARN

Elegant

SUMMER WEDDING Katy and Jo chose a delicate colour scheme for their informal celebration at Rivervale Barn. Love and laughter filled the air!

All About the Venue

Setting the Scene

When they started to plan their June wedding, Jo and Katy were looking for a venue where they could relax in the knowledge that everything was taken care of. ‘We new we wanted a barn and, when we looked around Rivervale, we immediately felt that we were in good hands,’ explains Jo. ‘We loved the grounds and the fact that everything was in one place.’

With a countryside venue and a summer wedding date, Jo and Katy embraced rustic style. Their main colour was mint green, alongside baby pink and pastel yellow. Wicker hearts and Mason jars decorated the venue as well as wooden hearts on the tables and a mint green birdcage for guest cards. As for the flowers, delicate white gypsophila combined with pink and yellow blooms.

2018 WEDDING GUIDE | 57

Beautiful Brides

Floral Delight

Jo wore ‘Lustre’ by Olivia Grace, a strapless gown with sweetheart neckline and beaded bodice. ‘I went dress shopping with two of my bridesmaids and my best man and asked them each to select a dress for me to try on,’ she smiles. ‘The dress I loved was chosen by my Maid of Honour.’ A sparkly veil, necklace and earrings were the perfect accessories.

Gypsophila, peonies and roses were the summer blooms of choice with bouquets in white, pink and yellow. The same flowers were introduced to Rivervale Barn alongside artifical flowers and petals.

Katy’s stunning gown was by Ella Rose, a lace design with plunging v-back and diamante straps. She also wore a beaded veil.

Cakes and Favours The on-trend naked cake decorated with fruit and flowers was made by a friend of the couple. And for favours… miniature jars filled with sweets and personalised with the name of each guest.

“ We wanted laughter to resonate around

the room and for guests to mingle both inside and out. It was important to us that everyone was well fed and watered and enjoying themselves!

2018 WEDDING GUIDE | 58

Eat, Drink and Get Married Following the civil ceremony, guests enjoyed drinks and canapés before moving in to dine. Jo is half Spanish, so the chef at Rivervale Barn created an antipasti starter with Spanish meats and cheeses alongside a selection of dips and stuffed peppers. A main course of fillet of beef followed, with a glazed lemon tart for pudding. ‘We loved all three courses and have had many guests commenting on how good they all were!’ says Jo.

The treats continued with wood-fired pizza in the courtyard for the evening celebration. Comedy Moments ‘During our first dance, our dressed kept wrapping around each other and we had to kick them out of the way,’ smiles Jo. ‘It caused lots of laughs!
