Country Music Hall of Fame® and Museum

Trace the deep and revealing history of country music, beginning with the music’s earliest folk roots, moving through minstrel and medicine shows, examining the advent of recording and radio and the early days of the Grand Ole Opry, through country’s continuous rise in popularity, and the emergence of today’s major stars. As you tour the two floors of the museum’s gallery spaces, you’ll follow the evolution of the music within the context of American history. Visitors experience the country music story through a rich and diverse mix of displayed artifacts, rare video footage, and carefully selected sound recordings. Informative biographical panels and supplemental audio tours tell the stories of those who have shaped the music, from Jimmie Rodgers and Hank Williams, through Johnny Cash and Dolly Parton, on up to Garth Brooks and Reba McEntire, and beyond. More than a hundred artifacts from contemporary artists such as Taylor Swift, Luke Bryan, Carrie Underwood, and Keith Urban are on display in the interactive gallery space. Visitors of all ages will discover connections between country music’s past and artists of today. They will have the chance to engage with interactive stations, recording and songwriting areas, interactive music trivia stations, a forty-foot guitar that kids can enter, and more.

The Museum’s commitment to sharing and interpreting the evolving story of country music is manifested in the many and varied topics covered in limited engagement exhibits. These critically acclaimed presentations range from the epic, such as the 2018–21 exhibit Outlaws and Armadillos: Country’s Roaring Seventies, to the biographical, shorter-term displays. In addition, smaller exhibitions mark milestone birthdays, special artifact donations, and historic anniversaries.

Election to the Country Music Hall of Fame is the most esteemed honor in country music. The Rotunda is a special room designed to recognize Hall of Fame members in a space and fashion befitting this high honor. Members’ plaques are placed randomly in the round room to ensure that each has a place of equal importance. Visitors to the Museum’s 5,300-square-foot Rotunda agree that this space represents the deepest roots of the music and the highest aspirations of the membership. ORIGINAL INK Hatch Show Print was founded in 1879 by Wisconsin-bred brothers Charles R. and Herbert H. Hatch, who opened a small shop near the courthouse in Nashville. It is one of America’s oldest working letterpress poster shops. For much of the twentieth century, vibrant Hatch Show Print posters served as a leading advertising medium for southern entertainment. Clients included members of the Grand Ole Opry like Bill Monroe, Minnie Pearl, and Ernest Tubb, and rock & roll figures such as Elvis Presley and Chuck Berry. Hatch Show Print printed thousands of posters and billboard-sized advertisements for vaudeville and minstrel shows, circuses, and carnivals barnstorming across the country. We celebrate this heritage by using the same wood and metal type used in the shop for over four generations. HATCH SHOW PRINT TOUR Engage your group’s senses. They’ll listen to the presses crank while learning about the history of Hatch Show Print. They’ll also see the colorful, centuries-old posters that put the shop on the map—as well as recent works of their favorite entertainers! The tour concludes in the Hatch Show Print Space for Design, where the group can handle some of the tools of the trade and smell the ink as they print their own keepsake piece. WALL CANDY A Match Made in Nashville. This unique package combines a tour of Hatch Show Print with a hands-on “Taste of GooGoo” workshop at Goo Goo Candy Shop, which created the Goo Goo Cluster, America’s first combination confection and a sweet Southern tradition invented in Nashville in 1912.
