HISTORY MADE DAILY If you follow music, art, and the culture of the American South, sooner or later you’re bound to run into the letters, images, and unmistakable “look” of Hatch Show Print. We’re one of the oldest working letterpress print shops in America, and over the years our posters have featured a host of entertainers, including the early stars of the Grand Ole Opry like Hank Williams, Bill Monroe, and Minnie Pearl, and continuing into this century, with artists such as Willie Nelson, Kacey Musgraves, and Guns N’ Roses—to name just a few.

HANDMADE, ONE BY ONE Letterpress printing is a process in which raised, inked surfaces—usually made of wood, metal, or linoleum— are pressed onto paper. This practice is essentially the same method of relief printing that was invented in the fifteenth century by Johannes Gutenberg, using movable type, hand-carved blocks, and hand-cranked printing presses.

ROOTS Not too much has changed in the Nashville shop since its founding by brothers Charles and Herbert Hatch in 1879. After five generations of near-constant use by designers and printers producing posters, Hatch Show Print has become a bona fide analog institution, surviving and thriving into the digital age.

HISTORIC RESTRIKES

RECOGNITION & AWARDS A print marking a significant accomplishment is meant to stand the test of time—to feel as beautiful and meaningful today as it does fifty years from now. Hatch Show Print’s approach and process has thrived since 1879, and can mark your honoree’s moment in a way that’s fiercely, fittingly forever.

INVITATIONS Hatch Show Print carries the tradition that put it on the map: The person who designs your invitations is the same person who prints them. We draw upon the same collection of wood and metal type the shop has used since it opened, setting details by hand, adding graphic elements carved by hand into wood or linoleum print blocks to build your invitations one layer at at time.

GREETING CARDS Hatch Show Print has long commemorated meaningful moments through timeless design—our greeting cards range from bright new-baby news to warm seasonal tidings. Like our posters, Hatch Show Print greeting cards are designed with vibrant type and image blocks that nod both to the happy occasion and to a historic art form. Have a custom greeting card need? This time-honored aesthetic lends extra meaning to any message.

Over more than 140 years, Hatch Show Print has designed and hand-printed millions of posters and other items for its clients. It’s only more recently that we’ve started making work that celebrates our own heritage and history, the city, and the milestones we all share, to offer in a gift shop adjacent and connected to the print shop. Some of our prints and note cards are available for wholesale purchase, to introduce letterpress-printed, handmadein-Nashville goods into your retail setting. (Wholesale orders start at $150, and approved clients will need to provide a current resale license as well as the appropriate taxation ID.)

SIGNATURE COLLECTION Printed in bold colors, and used year after year, these indelible images have withstood the passage of time to become classics. Today, we hand-ink and print restrikes of these blocks to share this uniquely and authentically Nashville style in Hatch Show Print’s Haley Gallery.

HOME DECOR Classic. Original. Charming. From prints to pillows, coffee mugs to tea towels, the shop’s timeless designs turn a house into a home steeped in history.
