most wonderful time of the year – December is here, and we’re all about embracing the sparkle, the cheer, and the joy of the season. Whether you’re a “Buddy the Elf” who believes there’s “room for everyone on the nice list” or more of a John McClane type, ready to “Yippee-ki-yay” your way through the festivities, we’ve got something in this issue to bring a little holiday magic to your days.
This month, we’re wrapping up the year with a sleighfull of seasonal delights. From the best local events to festive recipes and tips for stress-free gift-giving (we’re looking at you, last-minute shoppers), this issue is like a Christmas stocking packed to the brim. Think “Merry Christmas, ya filthy animal” – but without the chaos of Kevin McCallister’s booby traps.
December is also a time for reflection, gratitude, and togetherness. Here at Places&Faces HQ, we’re so grateful to have you as part of our community. Whether you’re snuggled up by the fire or venturing out to enjoy the frosty festivities, we hope this issue brings a little extra joy to your holiday season.
So grab a hot chocolate (extra marshmallows, of course), turn up the carols, and dive into this month’s pages. After all, “the best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear” – or perhaps, sharing this issue with friends and family.

Thursford Christmas Spectacular
Theword ‘Spectacular’ may be a large one to live up to, but there are fewer words more apt for the annual Christmas show at Thursford. For anyone seeking a truly quintessential British Christmas experience, the Christmas Spectacular is truly not one to be missed.
From the second you step foot into the venue, you will be fully immersed in the magical Yuletide landscape. Complete with twinkling lights, festive decorations & the jubilant tones of traditional Christmas music, the stage is set one of the largest Christmas shows in the U.K. The impressive scale of the production immediately stands out, there’s a real sense of grandeur, as though you've stepped into a Christmas dream.
After making our way through the village, we took our seats in the auditorium, admiring the sheer brilliance of what surrounded us until the curtains opened. The show is a bold holiday celebration, blending a variety of musical genres, dazzling choreography, and an impressive array of costumes. The
The talent on display is nothing short of extraordinary. Each performer brings an infectious energy to the stage
incredible live orchestra and beautiful stage sets enhance the emotional depth of each piece, whether it’s a heartwarming rendition of Silent Night or an exuberant performance of Christmas All Over Again.
The talent on display is nothing short of extraordinary. Each performer brings an infectious energy to the stage, and the choreography, particularly in some of the larger dance numbers, is slick and professional. The vocal performances are particularly impressive, with both solo and ensemble numbers that are powerful and moving. Interspersed between the performances, we are treated to the brilliant comedy routines of Lloyd Hollett. Fitting perfectly into the traditional British style of the show itself, Lloyd brings a well-oiled act that has something for every member of the family.
The true magic of the Christmas Spectacular, however, lies in the sense of holiday joy that radiates throughout the entire show. The atmosphere is warm and inclusive, with a Christmas dinner sized serving of seasonal cheer.
Running at approximately three hours (with a 25-minute interval), the show moves at a brisk pace without feeling rushed. The venue itself is intimate enough that there really is no bad seat in the house, but it’s wise to book early as tickets tend to sell out quickly. I would strongly recommend, after the show, heading straight to Fantasy Land to enjoy the magical scenes of all your favourite Christmas characters before reaching the
Enchanted Journey of Light. From the King’s Guard to Chinese Dragons, these beautiful, illuminated figures provide a magical striking contrast to the dark, twilight sky.
If you’re searching for a way to celebrate the season in style, the Thursford Christmas Spectacular delivers on every front. With its impeccable performances, enchanting atmosphere, and sheer festive spirit, it’s a show that leaves you not just in the holiday mood but truly feeling the magic of Christmas. Whether you're a seasoned visitor or attending for the first time, this spectacular event is guaranteed to make your Christmas season even brighter.

Panto Princess
Going out
With the festive season fast approaching, we caught up with the enchanting Meesha Turner, who will be dazzling audiences as Jazz in Norwich Theatre’s panto Aladdin. Join us as we discover what makes this talented actress tick, from being a maths genius to her unexpected love for a certain cheesy Christmas tradition.
Tell us a little bit about yourself.
Hi I am Meesha Turner. I went to the Royal Academy of Music and did my masters in musical theatre, and then I started my theatre journey. I graduated during COVID, so that was stressful. I managed to get a great agent, and my first job was at SIX in the West End. I played Catherine Parr, “survived”. I had a great time and met some of my best friends for life on that job. I have luckily been working ever since: I did Mrs Cratchit in the Old Vic's Christmas Carol, as well as a lot of freelance gigs as well. I am currently in Stranger Things the First Shadow at the Phoenix Theatre, having a great time, and I am really excited to do Christmas here in Norwich.
What do you love most about your job?
I really love having a creative license to play with things. I just love having fun on stage. You can have the same lines every day for a year, but you get a di erent energy every day based on the audience, whether there are covers or whatever. And I simply love being able to play with the characters every day and seeing the audience's response to the show that you are in that they have had fun in as well.
Going out
Tell us something we don't know about you
Ok. A shocking fact: I did my maths GCSE when I was 11 years old. I am actually a bit of a Carol Vorderman!
How do you unwind from a day on the stage?
Watching some kind of trash TV. Currently, it is Love is Blind UK, it is so good, formerly Love Island. But it's some kind of rubbish that I don't have to concentrate too hard. I can pop an episode on, have a cup of tea, and then go to bed.
Are you looking forward to playing Jazz?
I am so excited. Aladdin was one of my favourite Disney films growing up, and it is my first panto. I am really excited because Stranger Things has been incredible for the last year, but this is going to be such a contrast to doing that. I can't wait to have a fun Christmas in Norwich.
Have you ever been to Norwich before?
No, I have never explored the city, but I just had a walk around earlier, and it looks lovely, so I can't wait to find the best places to go. I have already heard there is really good food and co ee here. I am a massive foodie, so I am looking forward to getting nice and fat over Christmas and eating everything.
Describe your perfect day for us? Oooh! It is sunny and I am going to start the day with a co ee outside somewhere. I would meet some friends for brunch and then maybe go to a matinee at the theatre. Go for dinner. You know when I said I was a foodie my perfect day is pretty much revolved around food. And then in the evening maybe cocktails.
You are spending Christmas with us. What is your favourite part of Christmas?
Cheese board! Having a cheese board on Christmas day. I actually make a banging cheeseboard and every year I haven't been able to go home for Christmas and spent Christmas with friends and I have been like I will be in charge of the cheese board.
On my cheese board is a brie. You have to have blue cheese, Wensleydale, stilton, and a red Leicester, and then crackers, grapes, berries, and stu to make it look cute.
If you could play any princess who would it be and why?
I'm changing the question a little, but I would absolutely love to play a villain. It would be so fun to play a villain. Obviously, I am really excited to play a princess, and Jazz is badass as well, so if I am going to play a princess, she is the one. But yeah, I would love to play a villain because it's so not me, and I am thinking of the Shadow Man in The Princess and the Frog. He is a cool villain, and we can twist that up.
You can catch Meesha in Aladdin, Norwich Theatre’s genie-us Norfolk pantomime. Aladdin is on at Norwich Theatre Royal between 7 Dec – 5 Jan.

Support Norwich Theatre’s Christmas Appeal
At Norwich Theatre kindness never shines brighter than at Christmas. The spirit of Christmas encourages us to think beyond ourselves, embrace the joy of giving and share gifts with those who need it most.
During this season of giving, Norwich Theatre is asking for your support to ensure no child misses out on a lifechanging creative experience.
Its Christmas Appeal is raising funds to ensure all children, young people, and their families can access workshops, sessions, and world-class theatre shows.
“We know many children wish they could get involved, but are often faced with barriers to accessing these opportunities; however, for some children and families, there are real barriers to accessing these creative experiences,” said Norwich Theatre Chief Executive and Creative Director Stephen Crocker.
Families in Norfolk are facing more challenges than ever before, with thousands struggling to get by. One-third of Norfolk’s children are living in poverty. That’s nine in every classroom. The gap between those who are able to engage with creative experiences together and those who cannot is growing.
“Creative experiences can be lifeaffirming and life-altering. I know from my own experience as a child that my life would have been very different if the Welsh National Opera had not visited my school. However, currently, children from low-income families are often missing out on creative experiences,” commented Stephen.
Creative experiences shape our lives in so many ways. From the stories we read to the shows we see to the music we hear, creativity influences how we make sense of the world, connect with others, and navigate our path through life.
The funds raised will help provide opportunities for all families to get creative together, who otherwise might not have the chance.
Norwich Theatre will deliver creative workshops and holiday programmes where children, young people, their parents and carers can explore their creativity through music, drama and dance. As well as pay-what-youcan activities and reduced-price or free tickets for families and work with charity partners to reach the families who face the most barriers to accessing creative experiences.
“This season of goodwill and giving is the perfect time to think about giving a gift of a creative experience that provides children and young people with new skills and abilities to help them fulfil their potential. Please donate what you can,” said Stephen.
Norwich Theatre will collect donations at the end of each Aladdin performance and its Christmas shows at the Playhouse, using bucket collections and contactless donation points. Donations can also be made online at norwichtheatre.org

It’s a carol concert in a cloister, karaoke Christmas classics, and authentic Italian gelato- mince pie flavoured. Christmas in Norwich is traditionally di erent and it’s wonderful, says Melanie Cook of VisitNorwich. www.VisitNorwich.co.uk
There’s more to do this December than you can shake a piece of tinsel at! So, to make the most of this heady time of year, here are my recommendations taking you from ways to meet Father Christmas to festive afternoons teas and on to Christmas performance. In short: meet, eat and be merry.
First things first. Make a date at Norwich Cathedral for their Carols in the Cloister with the senior girl choristers (14 December, 4pm, free). This is the most festive way to spend a Saturday afternoon. It usually entails a meet in a cosy city pub like the Ribs of Beef for mulled wine before we head to the cathedral as it’s getting dark. This year though, I would particularly recommend heading over to Café Gelato on Opie Street (just o London Street) to buy a tub of authentic gelato to take with you- flavoured panettone, Christmas pudding or mince pie.
But music aside, what truly makes this event so special is the atmosphere of the cloisters, the beauty of the cathedral spire and being outside, all wrapped up and singing your heart out to keep warm and merry.
It’s the festive season but a little unexpected
Nothing is more magical and joyous than meeting the Big Man himself and here in Norwich and Norfolk we have a tremendous choice of how and where to do it- including the annual Santa’s Grotto for Dogs at The Forum (15 December, 11am-3pm)! It’s barking mad but it gives our furry friends a festive excuse to don their best outfits, whilst raising money for a good cause! Everyone wins.
One of the most impressive visits to Father Christmas and one that every generation can experience together is Santa’s Magical Journey at Thursford This marvellous attraction (best enjoyed as it’s getting dark) is immense. I remember taking my children there for the first time and the look on their faces was worth every penny. This is more than a visit to Santa. It’s a mesmerising riot of colour and sparkles with animatronics, polar bears and elves making toys in their workshop. It even smells amazing.
The added bonus is that with your tickets you get entrance to their Enchanted Journey of Light. This is a beautifully curated garden of light sculptures from a fantasy underwater world to a gingerbread house and gingerbread men to – new for this year – naughty mushroom gnomes. This might just be your best festive outing (with or without children) and will be remembered for many years to come.
Tickets for Santa’s Magical Journey incorporating the Enchanted Journey of Light cost £29.50 for children (with a gift) and £23 per adult (no gift). Tickets for the Enchanted Journey of Light (only) cost £23 per adult. Available until 24 December.
Start the day the right way with A Very Festive Breakfast* at Jarrolds (14 December, £22.38 per child, 9.30am, 2 hours). Here, your little ones will enjoy breakfast, with the elves o ering arts and crafts, and letter writing to Santa, finishing with a visit to the Grotto.
It is at this time of year the traditional afternoon tea morphs into the festive afternoon tea. Just one more reason to eat cake – like we need it. The choice is vast so hold on to your seats – and don’t plan to eat dinner!
The Britons Arms on quaint Elm Hill is possibly the best priced at £18 per person (December) and £6 extra for mulled or sparking wine. Think traditionally filled finger sandwiches and a pigs in blanket sausage roll, plus a cranberry & candied peel scone, then Christmas cake, Christmas pudding, a mince pie, blackcurrant, tangerine & vanilla trifle and a spiced chocolate tru e.
The Last Wine Bar & Restaurant comes in at the most expensive at £35 per person (until 30 December, 48 hours-notice required) and for that you
get elevated fillings in your sandwiches, such as cured trout and lemon butter on rye bread and roast beef, horseradish, tru e and watercress in a soft milk bread bun. This is followed by a duck liver parfait, cherry and bitter leaf vol au vent. The sweet treats include a warm scone with clotted cream and British plum jam, almond mince pie and brandy butter, Valrhona 70% dark chocolate and salted hazelnut gateaux, cinnamon and honey madeleine and a citrus and vanilla mille feuille. Plus, a choice of 12 looseleaf teas with complimentary refills.
The Assembly House is famed for its themed teas and Christmas is no exception. Book a table with a Georgian ballroom for a view for their Nutcracker III Christmas Afternoon Tea (£32.50 until 5 January, £18.95 for guests under 12 years). This festive tea is served in four acts. The first - delicious dainty sandwiches. The second - sensational savouries. The third - scones sweet and savoury and the fourth - delicate cakes and pastries such as The Nutcracker Prince’s Moonlit Forest Gateau Opera, Pistachio Snowflake Macaron, Mr Ginger in the Land of Sweets, Clara’s Cupcake, Sugar Plum Fairy Trifle and The Nutcracker: a solid white and pink chocolate soldier with freeze-dried raspberries. Need I say more?
During December, the festive tea at The Maids Head costs £30 per person and is bursting with seasonal flavours such as turkey, stu ng, bacon, pickled onion chutney sandwiches and baked plum custard tart.
If you want to pair a tea with a winter countryside walk, then there are options outside Norwich, too. The Norfolk Mead- where you can sit by open fires, costs £24 per person (until 6
January). Barnham Broom hotel £26.95 per person. And Park Farm £32-£39 (children £16) where you dine in the Georgian Drawing Room. Choose from a Christmas, Sparkling, Champagne or Cocktail tea.
Finally. Not finally. Singing, dancing and music is a huge part of Christmas. To that end, tickets for the panto (Aladdin, Theatre Royal Norwich, 7 December – 5 January) are a must buy. The Theatre Royal’s panto is a laugh a minute – written by the totally hilarious Richard Gauntlett (I’m a fan) and this year featuring Joe Tracini as RegAladdin’s brother, Lisa Maxwell as the Evil Aunt, Tarik Frimpong as Aladdin and Meesha Turner as Jazz. And the dame? The stage welcomes Owen Evans, best known as one half of the Norfolk favourite comedy duo, the Nimmo Twins!
For the under 8’s and their families, we have Cinderella Rocks! at The Garage (8 - 29 December, £16.50). And, created for all ages- Norwich Puppet Theatre has its cast of puppets performing Sleeping
Beauty (14 – 31 December, family of four £45 -1 adult and 3 children, 2 adults and 2 children or 3 adults and 1 child - or adults £14, children £12).
It's all good watching everyone else perform and having fun – but what if you fancy a turn? Book a karaoke booth at Bowling House, then stay for drinks and perhaps a meal. Or grab tickets and let your hair down for an evening of Barrioke at Norwich Arts Centre (21 December, £26).
Yes, Barry from EastEnders sings. He is in fact a great entertainer. “Barrioke is BRILLIANT!” said Chris Moyles. Sounds like a recommendation to me.
I’m booking tickets right now.
A QUICK REMINDER.
Other superb activities include a festive marquee cinema at Fairhaven (The Grinch, 10 December, 6pm); Christmas at Strangers’ Hall; Christmas walking tours with The Shoebox Experiences; Christmas shows at Thursford and Cromer Pier; wreath making, tours, festive workshops, shopping and markets at The Assembly House, The Goat Shed, Holkham Hall and The English Distillery; The North Norfolk Pole Experience at Pensthorpe; Dippy’s Christmas Celebration at Roaar! and the brand-new Christmas Experience: Jingle in the Jungle at Banham Zoo
And if you don’t have time before Christmas Day, there are still things to do afterwards: Candlelight Tours at Holkham Hall are spectacular (tours throughout December until 30th priced £32-£36); Bure Valley Railway – Mince Pie Specials (27 December – 5 January, adults £22, children £11); and the Boxing Day Guided Walk at Fairhaven Woodland & Water Garden (11am, £11).

THE NORFOLK CHEESE COMPANY
CrackingConcoctionsChristmas
by Charlie Smith-Knight
Whenit was suggested that I research some seasonal drinks for this edition, I thought, yes! Of course me. I am nothing if not a woman of science and therefore always ready to undertake thorough research. Enough said, let’s get down to business.
Pomegranate & Peach Sparkler
(Non-alcoholic)
Ingredients:
• 237ml peach juice
• 118ml pomegranate juice
• Ginger ale
• 1 tbsp lemon juice
• 1 tsp honey
• Peach slice, pomegranate seeds and rosemary to garnish
Method:
Mix all the juices together. Stir in the honey. Pour into glasses over ice and finish with a peach slice, pomegranate seeds and a sprig of rosemary.
How it tastes:
A non-alcoholic mocktail that is fresh and fizzy, with a syrupy undertone of peach and honey. The ginger ale adds a hint of Christmas warmth that makes this super drinkable. With the added bonus that you can have as many of these as you like without fear of being kicked o Santa’s nice list or texting your ex. Perfect for a starter on Christmas morning or for those designated drivers.
Charlie says:
Christmas Cinnamon & Cherry Sangria
Ingredients:
• Bottle of red wine
• 237ml apple juice
• 118ml cherry liqueur
• 1 apple, diced
• Handful of fresh cherries
• 2 cinnamon sticks
• Soda to finish
Method:
Combine the red wine, apple juice and cherry liqueur in a pitcher and mix well. Toss in the diced apple, cherries and cinnamon sticks then refrigerate for 2 hours. Before serving, top up with soda for crisp, fresh finish!
How it tastes:
I was expecting a big hit of Christmas, but this initially tasted pretty much like red wine. So, make sure you stir it up like a Real Housewife whose hairstyle has just been insulted before leaving it to chill. Once the fruit and cinnamon starts to reach you, this one turns into a creeper. Before you know it, you’ll be merrily swaying around the living room, muttering the lyrics to Fairytale of New York and confessing your undying love to the dog, so I suggest you share the wealth on this one. Happy, hearty and perfect for parties.
Charlie says:
Mistletoe Margarita
Ingredients:
• 590ml orange juice
• 590ml cranberry juice
• 237ml 7UP
• 237ml tequila
• 118ml cherry juice
• 50ml lemon juice
• Salt, cranberries and a mint sprig to garnish
Method:
Mix all the liquids together in a jug. Prep your margarita glasses by running a lemon wedge around the rim, then sprinkle with salt. Pour in your margarita then add a sprig of mint and some cranberries to garnish.
How it tastes:
The minute this touched my lips, the image of Ralph Wiggum sitting on a bus, giggling ‘I’m in danger’, came to mind. Of course, the real trouble began once it stopped tasting strongly of alcohol and I started enjoying the fruity heat in the back of my throat. After 2 of these my arms felt like they were floating independently of my body. I could almost taste the kebab I would inevitably be inhaling at 2am. Great if you need a liven before a night of pre-Christmas karaoke but a word of warning if you’re serving this on the big day. Cut.Down.On.The. Tequila. Or prepare to forget Christmas night entirely. Dangerously delicious.

dinner—it's the star of the season, the reason we dust off the good china, and the one meal we plan with military precision. But who says tradition can’t have a little fun? This year, we’re taking the classics and giving them a modern makeover, because your holiday table deserves more than just turkey and soggy sprouts.
Our festive menu is all about elevating the flavours you love with a playful twist. Start with the elegance of king prawns and smoked salmon, dressed to impress with a zesty lemon-dill drizzle. For the main event, we’re swapping the predictable bird for a glorious herb-crusted roast lamb, paired with a rich red wine gravy that’s worthy of
its own standing ovation. And let’s not forget the accompaniments—crispy Hasselback potatoes and Brussels sprouts sautéed with bacon and chestnuts that might even convert the sprout skeptics.
We’ve also included a Christmas Day cheat sheet because we know the last thing you want to do is spend the holiday glued to the oven timer. So pour yourself a glass of something festive, crank up the holiday tunes, and let’s make this year’s Christmas feast one to savour and celebrate!

Protect your family’s assets through effective Inheritance Tax planning
Inheritance Tax (IHT) can be a daunting and complex subject, particularly in light of recent news coverage on some of the key changes announced in Labour’s first Budget.
While it may feel overwhelming, effective IHT planning goes a long way to protecting your family’s assets and is a proactive means of safeguarding wealth for the future.
Tax planning to suit you
At M+A Partners, our approachable team work with you to create an inheritance tax strategy tailored to your unique position.
Everyone’s circumstances are different, and our professionals can advise on appropriate reliefs to potentially minimise future IHT liabilities.
Changes to reliefs
Inheritance tax rules have stayed constant for several years now and the recent Budget confirmed that the nil rate band will remain frozen at £325,000 until 2030.
In contrast, other measures were announced that may impact on your inheritance tax position, specifically business owners, farmers and those with IHT friendly investments, such as AIM shares.
Tax laws are subject to change and our team keeps you updated on the current regulations and IHT planning tools. You may wish to consider succession planning, making lifetime gifts and the use of trusts – we help you to think through the full tax implications of reliefs before taking any action.
Having an up to date will is another important part of estate and inheritance planning. When a person dies without leaving a will, their estate is shared out according to certain rules – these are called the ‘rules of intestacy’.

Chocolate Yule Log
As we now move
into the winter months and start to think about little treats and cakes to celebrate gatherings during the festive period, I think that one of the ultimate 70s/80s nostalgic cakes that is right up there is the Chocolate Yule Log. I remember the shop-bought one that used to come out of a packet and sit on my mum’s or my nanny’s sideboard decorated with plastic reindeer and holly and one of those huge, retro, shiny, silver signs that said “Merry Christmas”. It would sit on the side for two to three days before Christmas and I would gaze at it, desperately longing to dive straight in to this rich, chocolatey sponge cake. And that is why we are giving you the recipe for this Christmas classic – perfect for any large Yuletide gathering and brilliant to slice up and offer to friends and family.
There is quite a lot going on in this recipe, so just make sure you read through it carefully and prepare yourself. Get your head around the various components of the dish and bring it all together. It’s also a really fun thing to make with the children, so give this amazing cake a go while reminiscing about those 80s Christmases that started with a prawn cocktail, turkey for main, and a beautiful Chocolate Log to finish…or alternatively, a Viennetta slice!
FOR THE YULE LOG:
Ingredients:
• 3 Egg Yolks
• 175g Icing Sugar
• 4 Egg Whites
• 50g Cocoa Powder
• 15g Cornflour
• 1 Tsp Butter
• Pinch of Flour
• 250ml Double Cream
• 250ml Red Fruit Coulis
• 1 Tsp Brandy/Rum
• 150g Fresh Raspberries
CHOCOLATE BUTTERCREAM (OPTIONAL)
Ingredients:
• 100g Dark Chocolate
• 100g Milk Chocolate
• 800g Icing Sugar
• 200g Soft Salted Butter
• 8 Tbsp Cocoa Powder
• 4 Tbsp Milk
• A Pinch of Sea Salt
Chocolate Yule Log
THE SPONGE
Pre-heat the oven to 200°C.
Beat together the egg yolks with 80g icing sugar until the mixture forms ribbons. In a separate bowl, beat the egg whites until half risen, add 45g icing sugar and beat again at high speed for 1 minute until very stiff. Using a flat slotted spoon, mix one third of the egg whites into the yolks and stir until completely blended. Very carefully, tip the remaining egg whites all at once into the yolks and mix gently. Before the mixture becomes completely incorporated, sift the cocoa powder and cornflour into the bowl and fold through until you have a smooth batter. Then, stop folding so the cake doesn’t become heavy.
Line a baking sheet with parchment, and using a palette knife spread the sponge mixture evenly over the paper making a rectangle about 26x30cm. Bake in the pre-heated oven for 8-10 minutes. While the sponge is cooking, prepare your filling.
THE FILLING
Whip the cream with the remaining icing sugar until it forms ribbons. In a separate bowl, mix together the fruit coulis and your liqueur of choice.
BRING TOGETHER
Remove your sponge from the oven - the top of the sponge should feel springy to the touch once cooked. Turn the sponge out onto a wire rack with a tea towel underneath. Carefully peel off the parchment paper, then gently roll the sponge (including the tea towel) into a sausage shape and leave in a cool place for 5-10 minutes. Unroll the sponge and trim the edges with a knife to remove any slightly overcooked or dry parts.
Then brush with a quarter of the coulis keeping the rest to serve separately. Next, using a palette knife, spread the whipped cream to within 1.5 cm of the edges of the sponge and scatter over the raspberries. Now use the the tea towel to roll up the sponge like a Swiss roll and transfer to a serving platter. Chill in the fridge for 2-3 hours before serving.
THE CHOCOLATE BUTTERCREAM (OPTIONAL)
Put the chocolate in a heatproof bowl over a pan of barely simmering water (make sure the bowl isn’t touching the water). Stir until melted, then leave to cool for 5 minutes. Place the butter and icing sugar together in a stand mixer and start on low with a whisk attachment. Whisk until doubled in size and light and fluffy. Sift in the cocoa powder and pour in the melted chocolate, a pinch of sea salt and the milk, then mix again until smooth. Keep at room temperature until ready to use.
TO SERVE
When ready to serve your Yule Log, spread over your chocolate buttercream (if using), dredge with icing sugar, add some Christmas decorations if desired, then cut into diagonal slices and serve on cold plates.
Christmas Cranberry Mincemeat Loaf Cake
Thisquick and easy recipe is perfect for the busyness of the Christmas season. It produces two loaves, meaning there is plenty for you to enjoy, or you can share some festive cheer by gifting a home-made treat. What’s more, it features my latest Christmas release, ART’s Cranberry Mincemeat, a light, juicy, red berry variation on a traditional fruit mincemeat, enlivened by Special Reserve Port.
Ingredients: Makes two loaf cakes
• 150g soft brown sugar
• 150g light muscovado sugar
• 2 large eggs
• 225g self-raising flour
• 225g ART’s Cranberry Mincemeat
METHOD:
• 100g currants
• 100g sultanas
• 50g blanched split almonds
• Two 450g cake tins (17cm x 11cm)
Preheat the oven to 140°C/Gas mark 3. Grease the loaf tins Measure all the ingredients, except for the almonds, into a large bowl and beat well until thoroughly blended. Turn the mixture into the prepared loaf tins and level it out evenly. Arrange the almonds on top of each cake mixture in any pattern you wish.
Bake in the preheated oven for 1¼ hours, or until the cakes are golden brown, firm to the touch, and a skewer inserted into the centre comes out clean.
Allow the cakes to cool in their tins for a few minutes, then loosen the sides with a palette knife, turn them out onto a wire rack, and allow them to cool completely. Either serve the same day or place in an airtight container for later use; the cakes should keep for up to three days. For gift wrapping, wrap in greaseproof paper and tie with a festive ribbon.

Producing delicious food and drink are two things we do extremely well in Norfolk, and none more so than Norfolk Gin. Famed for its unique flavour and gorgeously designed bottles, this is the perfect tipple to elevate our selection of festive gin cocktails this Christmas.
White Lady
Dreaming of a white Christmas? You need a White Lady cocktail. This classic (and potent!) Christmas tipple includes a refreshing mix of gin, triple sec, lemon and egg white.
INGREDIENTS (serves 1)
• 50ml Norfolk Gin
• 25ml triple sec
• 25ml lemon juice, plus lemon zest twists to serve
• 2 tsp sugar syrup
METHOD
• ½ egg white (optional)
Tip the gin, triple sec, lemon juice, sugar syrup, egg white (if using) and a handful of ice into a cocktail shaker. Shake until the outside of the shaker feels very cold, then strain. Discard the ice, then, if you’ve used egg white, return the mixture to the shaker and shake again until the egg white is frothy. Pour into a coupe glass and garnish with a twist of lemon zest to serve.
French 75
There’s no better way to celebrate the festivities than with this combo of champagne and gin. Simple to make, this is perfect for party season.
INGREDIENTS (serves 1)
• 25ml Norfolk Gin
• 12.5ml lemon juice
• 12.5 ml sugar syrup
• Champagne
• Lemon peel, to serve
METHOD
Put the gin, lemon juice and sugar syrup in a shaker, fill with ice and shake hard, then strain into a champagne flute and top up with champagne. Using a zester or peeler, peel a long strip of lemon zest. Twist over the flute to release the oils and drop into the glass to garnish.
Mulled gin
You’ve tried mulled wine and mulled cider, now it’s time for a new take on the classics. Infuse apple juice with festive spices and add to Norfolk Gin for the ultimate winter warmer.
INGREDIENTS (serves 4)
• 100ml Norfolk Gin
• 400ml apple juice
• ½ lemon, sliced
• 1 bay leaf
• 4 cloves
• 2 cardamom pods, lightly crushed
• 1 small cinnamon stick
• 3 juniper berries, lightly crushed
• ½ tsp coriander seeds
• 1 tsp runny honey
For the garnish
• 4 bay leaves
• 2 lemon slices, halved
METHOD
Divide the gin between four small heatproof glasses or, if you’re feeling whimsical (or hosting a boozy afternoon tea), teacups. Tip the apple juice into a saucepan with the rest of the ingredients and heat gently until simmering. Strain the mulled apple juice into a jug, pour into the glasses/teacups with the gin and stir gently to combine. Garnish each glass with a bay leaf and half a lemon slice and serve while warm.

Don’t Wait for January... Embrace Change
By Polly Vincent, Podcast Host @polly_means_business, Owner of @enhance_cosmetic_clinic, and Permanent Makeup Expert.
It feels
surreal
to say, but this is my final column for Places and Faces. What an incredible journey it’s been! Over the past year, I’ve shared so much with you, from personal stories to business insights, and I’ve cherished every moment. It's hard to believe that when I started this column, I was pregnant, and now, here I am, celebrating Penelope’s first birthday! We had a delightful tea party with all her favourite teddies—a wonderful reminder that as women, we truly can have it all and achieve anything we set our minds to. However, I’ve decided it’s time to step into a new chapter and focus on pushing myself even further as an entrepreneur. Change is exciting, and I’m ready for it!
Now!
As we approach the festive season, there’s often a temptation to wind down and wait for January to set new goals. But why wait? Now is the perfect time to reflect, take action, and embrace change. Personally, I’ve always believed in making the most of each moment, and that’s exactly what I’m doing now. For me, this shift is about growth, and I encourage you to use December as a time to jump-start your goals, too.
This year has been such a whirlwind! From the launch of my
Polly Means Business podcast, where I’ve had the chance to speak with incredible women in business, to expanding our training academy and, of course, navigating motherhood with Penelope—who has just turned one! This holiday season is going to be especially magical with Penelope now old enough to join in the festive fun, unwrap presents, and really be a part of the celebrations.
It’s been a big year for Enhance Cosmetic Clinic as well. We’ve given the clinic a fresh makeover, with fabulous new pink uniforms for our team and an even greater focus on skincare to bring our clients the very best results. Laura, our inhouse skincare specialist, has been incredible in delivering our new facial packages that cater to each client’s unique needs. And with Christmas coming, we have a range of pampering options for anyone looking to treat themselves or a loved one—from our bespoke facials to gift vouchers for PMU treatments, and gorgeous skincare from delilah and AlumierMD range. Perfect gifts for a little holiday indulgence!
Writing for Places and Faces has given me the opportunity to connect with all of you and share stories that matter to me. I’ve talked about important topics like women in business, breast cancer awareness, and IVF support in the workplace. But as I step away from this monthly column, I’m excited to see the direction the magazine is heading in. While my journey with the column ends here, I’m thrilled to know that Places and Faces will be sharing even more inspirational stories, told by the brilliant Victoria
Mayo from InspireMe PR. She’ll be spotlighting amazing women, places, and topics that inspire—what a perfect way to continue connecting with the community.
As for me, you’ll still be able to follow my journey through the Polly Means Business podcast and on socials with Enhance Cosmetic Clinic. I’m so passionate about empowering women, and my podcast has been an incredible platform for those conversations. We’ve focused a lot on the PMU industry in this first series, but we’ll be covering so much more, and I’m so excited to keep growing that space and develop myself as an expert in my field of permanent makeup.
As I leave you, I’d love to share one final piece of advice: don’t wait to make things happen. Whether you want to grow in your career, improve your wellbeing, or take on a new challenge— don’t wait for January to decide. Start now. Take that first step today, even if it feels small. Sometimes, it’s those early steps that make the di erence, building up confidence and momentum. Setting
big goals can be daunting, but breaking them into smaller actions makes them achievable and keeps you moving forward.
This Christmas is set to be extra special for Sam, Penelope, and me. We’ll be spending time with family in London and Essex, soaking in every moment of the festive fun and making memories with our one-year-old daughter, Penelope, as she experiences her first proper Christmas.
I want to extend a massive thank you to all of you for reading and supporting me over the past year. It’s been a privilege to share my journey with you, and I hope I’ve inspired you to embrace change, set your sights high, and go for what truly matters. Here’s to an amazing 2025—let’s make it happen now, not later!

Menopause & breast cancer
The team
at Norfolk Menopause are keen to be able to help all women through their menopause, and this includes women who have had breast cancer.
“There is no getting away from the fact that a diagnosis of breast cancer can have huge implications for menopause” says Dr Cary. “Breast cancer treatment for some women may lead to an early menopause, while other women may have to abruptly
For
women
This definitely doesn’t mean that there is nothing that can help though. “Absolutely not, its just a whole di erent ballgame” says Dr Cary. “With an open mind and the right support there is no reason menopause can’t be managed well, but it can be di cult for women to know where to turn for advice.”
Here are some themes that came up during a recent educational evening in collaboration with the wonderful Starthrowers charity;
with breast cancer
the seemingly ‘easy option’ is generally off the cards and I can’t imagine how frustrating and unjust this must seem
stop HRT when they are diagnosed. And many women with breast cancer will have hormone-blocking treatment as part of their management which can cause particularly severe menopausal symptoms”.
“Management of menopause after breast cancer can be particularly challenging” agrees Dr Healy, “and we are very aware that many women with breast cancer feel excluded from all the excitement of the recent menopause conversation, which has largely focused on HRT. For women with breast cancer the seemingly ‘easy option’ is generally o the cards and I can’t imagine how frustrating and unjust this must seem.”
• Small changes in lifestyle can have a big impact. Studies have shown moderate exercise (150min a week) can reduce risk of recurrence by over 50%. This can seem a big ask, especially after cancer treatment, but remember anything is better than nothing. The concept of ‘movement snacking’, a couple of minutes at a time can help, and reduction in menopause symptoms that lifestyle changes can bring can be a great motivator.
• Stress can exacerbate menopausal symptoms. Cancer and its treatment is a huge stress, and of course
‘everyday’ life stresses don’t stop with a cancer diagnosis. Anything that reduces stress helps, this could be mindfulness for one woman and archery for another. Psychological therapies, particularly CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy) can be a powerful tool to reduce impact of symptoms by changing thought processes surrounding them and the feeling and behaviours that result.
• Non hormonal medications can help. Don’t feel fobbed o if you are o ered antidepressants. Used for menopausal symptoms at menopausal (usually very low) doses these can really target troublesome symptoms. Venlafaxine can be especially helpful for flushing, duloxetine for pain and weight gain, and citalopram for anxiety. Women using Tamoxifen should not take fluoxetine or Paroxetine. Herbal treatments can have a role, though expert advice is needed to ensure these are used safety and e ectively as they can have powerful interactions.
• Vaginal oestrogen is safe for most women after breast cancer. Genitourinary menopausal symptoms can be particularly severe after cancer treatments, and though non -moisturizers and lubricants are always going to be first line there is robust safety data around using tiny doses of vaginal oestrogen. This needs more careful consideration for women on Aromatase Inhibitors.
• Systemic HRT after breast cancer is controversial and can seem polarizing, but those who want to know more should be helped to explore their options. It should not be a blanket ‘no’. The data around using HRT after breast cancer is old and limited, but women should be helped to understand how it relates to them. Your decision may not always align with your healthcare professional’s opinion but this should be respected if you have had a full and frank discussion about the risks and benefits.
• That said, HRT is absolutely NOT the wonder drug it is often portrayed as. As a team we find that women who can’t use it can and do manage their menopause brilliantly using a whole range of other options. Given the right support and advice this multilayered approach can work wonders.

Whilst Frank continues to organically evolve and develop and stay ahead of moving trends, helping our vendors prepare their home for the open market is one of our key first steps.
If you are thinking of listing your home, January for many people can be the perfect time to start planning your home moving aspirations for the forthcoming year. There are several important factors which Frank considers essential, to enable you to help you achieve the best possible price for your home and attract the widest audience so that you are in a position where you can carefully hand pick the best buyer for you. Equally, this then puts you in a strong position to secure your onward purchase, making your dream move complete whilst maximising the profi tability and ensuring the best economic outcome.
We can all be guilty of acquiring far too many possessions which can cause our homes to become cluttered, but even the smallest de-clutter can help your home feel fresh and spaces appear more usable. This is why pre-launch prep is essential within our listing process
to help you achieve your expectations regarding your sale price and stand the best possible chance to surpass.
All part of the service from Frank, we know how important a move can be to everyone but also how daunting the prospect can seem, that’s why an honest approach is key but also means it can be fun and quite exciting! In our experience, some of our clients have been amazed at the results just a little clear out can achieve, some in fact then wanted to stay!! All fun aside though, it really is a key element to showcasing your home in its best light, presenting your home with as much versatility as possible and highlighting the best features. Over the years (and even to this day) I am known to be shocked and in some cases appalled by the laziness by the presentation of some properties which are launched to the market by the listing agent, equally the standard of photography leaves a lot to be desired from some agents.
The perfect balance is the key objective, it is important to not go too

your favourite possessions within beautifully arranged collections.
Potential buyers will appreciate your e orts and it will make you feel happy too. Once the little things are tackled try and take a step back and examine every room carefully, does that extra co ee table need to be there or would the room feel bigger without it? Freeing up fl oor space can make such a di erence and gives a better illusion of space in general around your home as does thoughtfully placed mirrors. In bedrooms, try and keep bedding as neutral as possible otherwise it can appear quite ‘busy’ when photographed and ensure that it is neatly ironed and presented with bedside tables clear.
Then there’s that little ‘to do’ list, we all have them and we have all said that famous quote, “I’ll get that done this week”, then it just never happens…!! Well now is the time, TO DO IT! Some viewers have a habit of getting quite up close and personal, so it’s worth tidying up as many last details as possible. First impressions are also quite important, someone once told me that upon arriving at a property any potential buyer will have
generally clear, tidy and free from any un-necessary items. If your front door needs a freshen up, now is the time to get that job done too. Bricks make a house, but the love, care and attention you give is what creates a home and people are much more likely to fall in love with the ideology of their dream ‘Home’ than a pile of unloved bricks and mortar.
Essentially, you can prepare as much or as little as you feel necessary, but with very Frank listing we are here to help you prepare and decide what individual touches will make an invaluable di erence to your marketing. December , it’s the most wonderful time of the year, it’s about the Holly and the Ivy and hanging up mistletoe whilst listening to our favourite Christmas carols. The cosy feel of this time of year encourages us to settle in our warm homes and hibernate our way through the month. But, for us keen gardeners we can be outside in the very fresh air and do some helpful gardening jobs in preparation for the new year.
It’s important to keep the lawn grass exposed to as much winter daylight as possible to prevent it from being suffocated underneath a layer of rotting leaves.
The garden will enter winter’s dormancy with evergreen trees, shrubs and hedges giving us the finest of seasonal backdrops. We can use the month of December to design and create new garden features, borders and beds and plant in last minute spring bulbs. The garden becomes a clean sheet for making any changes and filling gaps with new plants over the coming months.
We should keep the lawn grass and nearby areas clear of fallen leaves by raking them up. It’s important to keep the lawn grass exposed to as much winter daylight as possible to prevent it from being suffocated underneath a layer of rotting leaves. This prevents a patchy and bare lawn that will need reseeding in early spring. Once this
has been done there is nothing more seasonal than the sight of sparkling morning frost on a neat and tidy lawn.
A very festive of sight is the wreath hanging on the front door, perhaps one we have created ourselves. It takes our love of gardening to an exciting level, using foliage and berries from the garden to be creative. We can create a homemade wreath by collecting in small amounts of holly, ivy and evergreen shrub foliage and placing the cuttings into a strong circular frame.
To give the garden a festive and seasonal feel why not hang some outdoor twinkly lights amongst the nearby trees, shrubs and hedges, it will make the garden a magical place for the festive and winter season. The twinkling lights amongst the wintry backdrop will
create your very own Christmas card scene in the garden.
I love the magic that Christmastime brings and the warm atmosphere it spreads amongst us all. The simplest of pleasures is to be in the garden over the festive season and be grateful for those small achievements and reflective as to what really matters in our lives.
I am always excited about my future gardening plans and will share those with you over the coming months.
and
I wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas and a Happy & Healthy New Gardening Year.
TOP TIPS
December
• Keep birdfeeders topped up to support your garden birds
• Continue digging and adding compost and mulch beds and borders
• Stop ponds, water features and bird baths from freezing over
• Snow might fall, so be sure to gently shake this off plants, shrubs and hedges
• Remember to celebrate your gardening achievements

Howexciting! December is here, and we all know what that means… Christmas! We all love the festive season, but as for our waistlines? Not so much!
If Christmas were just a few indulgent days around the 25th, we'd all be fine living o mince pies, mulled wine, and Celebrations. But let's be honest—once Halloween's out of the way, we're all in "Christmas mode," and for most of us, that means health can "do one" until January.
Let's get one thing straight so you don't think I'm a total psycho: the festive season is all about having fun, and food is a massive part of that. I'm with you on this! For so many of us, it's the best time of year, and anything that would "ruin" the food fun would, well… ruin Christmas.
So here's my suggestion: a few easy swaps. Just small tweaks to your food and drink that'll give your body a bit of TLC, help you feel less sluggish, and maybe even stop you from turning into a festive pig-in-a-blanket. Oh, and give you a head start on your New Year's Resolution. What's not to love?
And the best bit: I'm gonna show you exactly how you can do it with these three easy recipes and a few extra tips. See it as my Christmas gift to you.
Assemble Rolls: Place filling along one edge, roll up, and brush with egg to seal, saving the rest of the egg for the egg wash. Use a fork to gently crimp the edges.
Chill: Place the large pastry sausage in the fridge to chill for 30 minutes before slicing.
Slice & Bake: Cut into 1-2 inch rolls, egg wash the tops of the sausage rolls, and spread evenly on a lined greaseproof tray. Bake for 20-30 minutes, depending on thickness. The rolls should be golden and cooked in the middle, using a meat thermometer to check the temperature if unsure.
Serve: Pair with mustard, redcurrant jelly, or cranberry sauce.
Why Choose a Professional Solicitor for Your Will: Ensuring Security and Peace of Mind
In today’s world of convenience, it’s easy to be drawn to quick and cheap online will writing services. However, the risks they pose often outweigh the apparent benefits. Here’s why trusting a professional solicitor regulated by the Solicitors Regulation
Authority (SRA) is paramount:
The Dangers of Cheap Online Will Writing Services: Limited Legal Expertise: Generic templates may not address your unique circumstances, leading to errors that render your will invalid or open to challenge.
Inadequate Support: Online services lack the personalised guidance provided by qualified solicitors. Potential Inaccuracy: DIY wills are prone to mistakes, which may only be discovered after it’s too late to rectify them.
The Assurance of Professional Solicitors: Legal Expertise and Guidance: Solicitors offer tailored legal advice, ensuring your wiswhes are accurately reflected in your will.
Regulatory Oversight: SRA-regulated solicitors adhere to strict standards, providing additional protection through professional indemnity insurance. Personalised Service: Solicitors provide individualised support throughout the process, addressing your concerns and ensuring your final wishes are legally sound.
Peace of Mind: Trusting your will to a professional solicitor offers confidence in its validity, providing reassurance for you and your loved ones.
While online services may seem convenient, the risks they pose to your final wishes are substantial. Investing in a professional solicitor ensures legal expertise, regulatory oversight, and personalised support, safeguarding your legacy for generations.
Choose wisely; choose a qualified solicitor for peace of mind.

SANTA'S SILKY CHOCOLATE MOUSSE
INSTEAD OF XMAS PUDDING
Why: This rich mousse uses eggs for a light, airy texture without heavy cream.
INGREDIENTS
• 100g 70% dark chocolate
• 4 eggs, separated
• 20g butter
• 1 tbsp coconut sugar
• Flaked sea salt
• Optional: cacao nibs or chocolate shards to serve
METHOD
Melting: Gently melt the chocolate and butter in a glass bowl over a pan of simmering water. Stir in the coconut sugar. Remove from the heat and let cool slightly. (Ensure no water or liquid touches the chocolate to prevent it from seizing.)
Whisking: In a clean, grease-free bowl, whisk the egg whites until sti peaks form.
Combining: Stir the egg yolks into the slightly cooled chocolate mixture. Then, gently fold the egg whites into the melted chocolate mix in small batches, being careful not to deflate the mixture.
Filling: Spoon the mousse into 4 small glasses or small serving bowls.
Chilling: Refrigerate for at least 2 hours until set.
Toppings: Top with a small pinch of flaked sea salt before serving.
Serve: Garnish with cacao nibs or chocolate shards. Serve as is or pair with fresh berries.
NAUGHTY BUT NICE NIBBLES
INSTEAD OF QUALITY STREET
Why: Dark chocolate has less sugar and more antioxidants, while nuts and fruit add a sweet and satisfying crunch.
Toasting: Toast the nuts (flaked almonds, pecans, and blanched hazelnuts) in a dry frying pan over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until golden and fragrant. Watch closely to prevent burning.
Coating: Remove the pan from heat, add the maple syrup, and stir to coat the nuts evenly. Transfer to a plate or parchment paper to cool completely.
Melting: Melt the chocolate in a glass bowl over a pan of simmering water, stirring occasionally. Be sure no water gets into the chocolate to avoid seizing.
Chopping: Roughly chop the dried fruit and cooled nuts. To create distinct combinations, keep the fruit and nuts in separate piles.
Shaping: Drop spoonfuls of melted chocolate onto a parchment-lined tray, spreading gently to form 4-5cm discs.
Assembling: Top each chocolate disc with a mix of nuts and dried fruit. Sprinkle lightly with flaked sea salt.
Setting: Place the tray in the fridge for 30 minutes to an hour or until the chocolates are firm and set.
A little reminder before you tuck in: healthier swaps don't mean a free pass to eat until you burst! Watch those portions—have a taste, not a food-baby.
Now, I know what you're thinking, "This is all well and good, Evan, but what about the booze?". Don't worry; I've got you covered. Most of Christmas is spent in a constant state of tipsiness, so here is my advice to feel the buzz without the bulge (I know, that was a bit cheesy).
In short, Clear Spirits and Prosecco are your go-to's! Think vodka, gin, or tequila with a low-cal mixer like soda water or tonic, and add a slice of fruit to jazz them up. And as for Prosecco? Fewer calories than wine—simple as that.
Oh, and a bonus tip: in between all the festive feasting, get in as many walks as you can! It'll help balance out those extra calories, boost digestion, and make you feel a whole lot better.
Quick side note: research shows that having a plan for the New Year can help you ease up on Christmas indulgence. So, go ahead and line up that programme. Oh, and on that topic, if you need ideas, my Lighter & Lifted programme might be just what you're looking for! (Wink, wink.) And good news—it’s reduced exclusively for you P&F readers as a little thank-you for putting up with my wa e every month.
So, to wrap it up (present-related pun intended), Christmas isn't about being perfect—far from it—it's about maximum fun! And let's not kid ourselves; that means a little (or maybe a lot of) indulging. Enjoy that mince pie, raise a glass (or two), and dive into those 'Naughty But Nice Nibbles'... just try to go easy on the portions so you don't end up in a Christmas food coma.
With these few tinsel tips (I'm lovin' these Xmas puns), you can still enjoy all the best bits without feeling like a stu ed turkey by January. Cheers to that!
Ever feel like health programmes are all about endless rules and restrictions, and a glass of wine is seen as a "sin"?
If this sounds familiar, then I'm quietly confident (bordering on a little cocky— haha) that Lighter & Lifted could be your favourite thing this January.
Lighter & Lifted is an 8-week programme designed to help you lose fat, tone up, boost your energy, and lift your mood—without constant calorie counting, obsessing over body image and labelling foods as "good" or "bad".
And here, “lighter” doesn’t mean fixating on the scales. It’s about feeling lighter in life—moving with ease, lifting away the stress of restrictive routines, and building a body and mindset that feels strong and free.
Lighter & Lifted is a refreshing, more balanced approach than those intense programmes that feel like a second job. Think of it as the gentler path to wellness, with all the results and none of the burnout.
You’ll learn exactly how to eat, exercise, and live to feel and look your best—and truly thrive—while building lasting habits that finally stick. Say goodbye to yo-yo dieting and the allfamiliar “diet starts Monday” cycle.
So, if you’re ready to feel lighter, lifted, and completely free from the weight of diet culture, scan the QR code or follow the link to get all the details.
And for you lovely readers, I’ve got a special o er just for you.
JOANNE... 8 Week Update:
The Birthday, The Bugs... and The Big Wins!
Joanne’s had a whirlwind month, and “eventful” doesn’t even begin to cover it! She celebrated a big birthday (the big 6-0, but we’ll keep that between us), braved MS treatment, shook o that nasty virus circulating everywhere, and even took a holiday. And, despite all this, she’s achieved amazing results, losing over 10 kg in just 8 weeks!
Her diet has been on point (though a few birthday treats snuck in, along with her favourite guilty pleasure—crisps!). While a few workouts had to be skipped due to feeling unwell, she’s hit her daily 5,000-step goal consistently, keeping her momentum strong.
But the real transformation? Her mindset. Joanne has had a complete shift, realising she had let her MS diagnosis make her feel more limited than she actually is. Embracing movement has reminded her that she’s more capable than she thought. In fact, instead of a beach holiday in Greece, she opted for a walking holiday in the Lake District! MS didn’t stop her from enjoying it either—she just chose routes and flatter trails that suited her.
And now, the only “downside” to all this success is that her wardrobe can’t keep up! Joanne’s been indulging in a few shopping sprees for clothes that fit her new shape and lifestyle—including, yes, gym leggings, which she used to avoid like the plague.
Here’s to another fantastic month of progress for Joanne… and maybe a few more hiking trips to celebrate!

Since 1980 we have provided care and have met with thousands of families who are seeking an alternative to moving into a residential care home.
Meeting people inevitably leads, either at the time of an assessment or even years later, to questions for which people are looking for answers.
Information around all aspects of care is available but the road to finding out, especially at a time of crisis, about specific factors can be difficult and stressful. Able Community Care receives calls and emails on a regular basis with people asking if we can help with their search for information.
