Twenty-three vans came to Banham Zoo for a long break at our post-Norwich show TC. We had visitors from several groups as well as our own. Most went into the zoo and found their way out again.
Generally a relaxing time with shops over the road including a butchers, chippy, an “open all hours” as well as a hairdressers. Many went for a walk in the village. Barbeques were much in evidence. Despite the main site being full we had plenty of room on the rally field. We even had a visit from a Vulture that landed close to the vans during a flying display. Thanks to Keith, Teresa Tony Carole and Carol and Derek for doing the bookings and finances for a good break.
Forty-four vans came to Hunstanton Community Centre for the August Bank Holiday break, 31 Anglia, five first timers and 13 visitors from five other groups.Despite the field not being “snooker table level” all managed to level up successfully. It is far easier to get to the beach and town from here. We shall return in 2022.
An excellent hall and facilities were at our disposal and we made full use of them despite certain times that the hall was in use by others. However this was not a problem and we worked round it aided by a very obliging caretaker. Thursday evening was the only evening we did not have the hall.
Friday most went into the town or the sea front and in the evening Carol collected the fees and Keith called the bingo. Saturday evening tea, coffee and then Richard Sanders compered a game of Call my Bluff with a panel of Derek, Keith and Jackie. This basically developed into a riotous evening and was enjoyed by all. We had the raffle, and the Dodgy Dip just like old times. A bottle of whisky was raffled off separately and raised £80 for our charity E.A.C.H.
Sunday evening David Seals sang for us assisted by others and a great time was had, even some dancing! The Macmillan Nurses bucket was passed round and made £50. On Monday we had card bingo in the evening.
A very successful TC in a good venue. OK so the weather could have been kinder! Thanks to Keith, Teresa, Brian, Jenny, Tony and Carole for the parking and hall setting up, Carol and Derek for dealing with the finances and bookings, and the tea ladies.
In 2022 we shall return to stewards for the rallies not the Committee. Scribe Derek

Walcot RFC Lansdown, Bath. 6-11 August. Thanks to hosts Pete and Pat Watson and co-hosts Mike and Dawn Hailstone for their warm welcome, it was a very enjoyable stay. Many of the members made full use of the Park & Ride opposite the venue, to make the short journey into Bath. Others walked along the footpath to Beckford tower which was built as a folly, overlooking the city of Bath. Meals in the clubhouse were cooked by Fiona and large portions were served at a reasonable cost.
Our hosts Pete and Pat provided background music with quizzes and card bingo which was very entertaining. Longstanding member Stan celebrated his 91st birthday with lots of cake being shared around. Sue read out the info and welcomed first time members and visitors and handed out birthday cards. Pete and Pat followed the announcements with the raffle.
Great Torrington RFC, 20-25 August. Hosts Sue, >>
Pete, Marilyn and Allan welcomed 20 vans to the Great Torrington RFC. The site was around half a mile from the lovely town where visits to the pannier market, Dartington crystal glass and the RHS Rosemont gardens were highly recommended. We had use of the club house during our stay and the hosts organised bingo with Sue, card bingo with Pete and Pat, quizzes with Allan and music with Mark.
Saturday evening was cabaret night, Allan began with a selection of jokes. Terry sang while playing his ukulele and Mark followed with singing Elvis and Billy Fury songs and playing music. Pete also refereed the knockout Giant Jenga competition which culminated in the grand final on Tuesday evening in which Joe was victorious over worthy opponent Rowena. In the lounge area of the club, Paul played the keyboard for those who wanted to relax to some easy listening music. Sue made the announcements and welcomed new members and first time visitors, including a group from Yorkshire who were attending their first ever rally since joining the MCC. Birthday cards and plaques were handed out and Marilyn followed with the raffle. Thanks to all who donated prizes and thank you to everyone who helped to make this a such a happy and friendly event. Stay safe, Allan
Upcoming TCs: 7-10 October at Sharpness Docks Workers Club, Sharpness, Glos. GL13 9UN. 28-31 October is our AGM at Camerton Community Hall, Camerton, North East Somerset BA2 0NL. See Avon group website for updates or to make bookings.
CHILTERN
As autumn draws nearer it’s time to think of our AGM and Christmas Party. We hope many members will attend our AGM where there is an opportunity to listen to the Committee’s plans for the forthcoming year and to put forward your ideas or to ask questions. We have a new venue for this year’s Christmas meet – Hurst Community College. We are also trying a buffet-style menu instead of a sit-down meal which will help keep the cost down for members. Please text Julie in the usual way to book both these events.
Unfortunately our meet at Felden Lodge had to be cancelled due to a road closure in the area. Our stewards did try to find an alternative route to the venue but the other roads in the area were not suitable for our large vehicles. We were lucky that a member became aware of the closure a few days before the TC was due to commence!
Fifteen vans, 11 Chiltern and four visitors attended our next TC at Padworth Village Hall – our first meet with the use of a hall for a very long time! Friday and Saturday evenings were spent indoors with members taking the opportunity to meet up with friends. There was entertainment in the form of card bingo and quizzes to keep our brains active. During the day some people took the opportunity to relax on the field while others walked along the canal to the nearby pubs, cafe and garden centre.
Our Bank Holiday meet took place at Peach Croft Farm, Abingdon. Luckily we had the use of a very nice barn for the weekend as the weather was not very kind to us – in fact it was quite cold (but, thankfully, dry) and a few planned outdoor activities were cancelled. The days were spent visiting nearby Abingdon and Oxford, either by bike, bus or on foot. There were also some pleasant walks in the area and a very nice on-site cafe and farm shop. Diets were forgotten as members consumed cream teas and delicious local cheese and freshly baked bread! In the evenings we were entertained by our Committee with quizzes, scattergories, card bingo, a music quiz and knockout bean bag boules.
Upcoming TCs: 7-10 October at Valley Farm Campsite, Farmoor, OX2 9NL. 15-17 October is our AGM at St Peter’s School, Old Windsor, SL4 2QY. 26-28 November is our Christmas Party at Hurst Community College, Baughurst, RG26 5NL.
EAST MIDLANDS 07562 324 325
The East Midlands AGM will be held during the Wellingore Rally at 10am on Sunday 17 October 2021 – provided there are no further Covid restrictions.
Please note that all rallies need to be booked up until the end of 2021. After that, we hope to return to our usual practice of only booking those rallies where space is limited or where we have to have exact numbers. To book contact Anne Taylor: email anneeastmidlands@ gmail.com or phone 7414852497.
If for any reason you can’t make a rally/TC that you have booked, please just contact Anne (or any member of the Committee) to inform us of your cancellation.
The booking forms our Grand Dinner/Dance at Springfields and our New Year rally at Ingoldmells are available on our website or at East Midlands’ rallies. Full payment required when booking.
At the lovely village of Spilsby in Lincolnshire we held our bank holiday rally. There was 33 vans present; 32 East Midlands, four of whom were first timers and one from East Wessex.
We were welcomed and parked up by our stewards Robin, Barbara, Chris and Janis. The stewards had organised lots of activities and quizzes during the weekend. On the Saturday evening Mike Cornell, a singer, entertained us and we danced the night away. Spilsby is ideally located for visiting Skegness, Boston or Horncastle and some members took advantage of this. Other members visited the local shops, restaurants and coffee shops. Yvonne
Twenty-two vans booked in to Sutton on Trent for the village festival weekend where all went along to enjoy the entertainment and various stalls and eateries.
We welcomed two first time ralliers to East Midlands Group. Grey matter was tested by quizzes from Pete and Joyce and Saturday saw all taking part in Play your Cards Right with Debs doing the "dolly dealing", followed by guitar playing and singing from Robert.
An enjoyable weekend altogether meeting friends old and new. Joyce
Upcoming TCs: 15-17 October at Wellingore Memorial Hall, Memorial Hall Drive, Wellingore, Lincs. LN5 0JA. 29-31 October at Collingham Cricket Club, Dale Field, Collingham, Notts. NG23 7RF. 19-21 November at Brownhills Leisure World, A1/A46 Junction, Newark Notts NG24 2EA. All are bookable until further notice.
EAST WESSEX
We've had a great month. Seventeen vans, (one West Wessex and 16 East Wessex) turned out to Weyhill Fair near Andover and we welcomed Eric and Sue, returning to the group after an absence of 20 years. Hope you both enjoyed yourselves!
We had a relaxing time, more peaceful than usual, as the road outside the site was completely closed for resurfacing, though it meant the buses we normally use to get into town were nowhere to be seen. Still, those with cars or bikes were able to get to Andover whilst others headed to the onsite pub for lunch.
The weather was kind, allowing us to sit outside chatting and laughing at the antics of the group's newest four legged members.
Larry and Sheila treated us all to a delicious cream tea on Saturday which went down very well indeed.
Evenings were spent in the pods for the first time this year, so we could sit together until 10pm. Larry did a couple of quizzes based on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, showing that most of us won't be.
The bank holiday rally at Hayling College on Hayling Island was a great success. It got off to an interesting start when the hosts found the College access obstructed by a parked car and the owner was said to be on holiday. Luckily all managed to use a different access and from then on it just got better as we were blessed with good weather and a good turnout. The 14 East Wessex vans were joined by visitors from Sussex (eight), West Wessex (three), Severn Valley (three) Kent (two), and one each from SWP, Lancashire and the Motorcycle groups.
Hosts Mary and Graham worked their socks off setting up the site, welcoming all as they arrived and organising a fish and chip supper on Saturday evening that was enjoyed by all.
Most did their own thing over the weekend; one family went to the Isle of Wight, others visited Hayling Island seafront, Havant, Chichester, went out cycling or relaxed on site in the sun. Mitch went fishing, and caught a bream. The pods were back in use for coffee mornings and evening get togethers. Janet and Mary’s quizzes got us thinking and Graham did card bingo.
Upcoming TCs: 12-14 November at Easebourne School, Wheelbarrow Castle, Easebourne, GU29 9AG. Jake Ward will be entertaining us on Saturday night and the AGM will be held Sunday morning at 10.30. The group will be electing a new committee, so why not give it a go and join the committee for a year. Our caretaker committee has been doing a grand job and numbers coming to rallies have been going up, but we need more hands on deck. Details of all rallies will be posted on our website: www.eastwessex.moonfruit.com and all are welcome. Before setting out please check the website for any last-minute changes.
ESSEX
We arrived at Gosfield Shopping Village, this being an antique centre and not retail shops and with no rain at the moment. This was our first visit to the site although Essex had been there before.
Friday saw the motorhomes arriving and setting up. We had one new couple and a couple who were ralliers quite a few years ago; their daughter also brought her motorhome along. I hope you all enjoyed the weekend despite the rain. We had a number of no shows which was a bit disappointing. The evening saw various members in their motorhomes or in gazebos with friends.
Saturday started out very disappointing with heavy rain. It did stop about 11 o’clock and Linda and I and our friends decided to walk over to the antique shops. It seems strange to see items that we had thrown away in the past now being sold as antiques and collectibles. Although saying this, we found it very interesting and a number of members were making purchases.
At 4pm we had a coffee and tea afternoon. We were also treated by Alan and George to Pimms and Barbara supplied nibbles. This went down very well, it was much appreciated and it was like getting back to normal. Raffle tickets were on sale. We had a game of bingo and the raffle was drawn.
It was good to have Bob (our Chairman) back after recently having Covid and having the Chairman’s waffle again. Unfortunately, Carol our Chairman’s wife and our rally secretary has vertigo but is taking tablets and hopefully it will be gone soon. The weather looked like it was going to rain so everyone made a mad dash back to their motorhomes but it was a false alarm and the sun came out again which meant we could have a game of music bingo.
Sunday saw most members packing up with some off on holiday and others returning home. A good weekend was had by all as it was nice to get back to some normality. John
August BH we held a TC at Homestead Lakes, Weeley. Attending were numerous vans from varying groups also two new members, namely Steve and Sandra, Paul and Christine. >>
We were hopeful to be able to celebrate 150 years of Clacton along with the Air Show, but unfortunately due to Covid this did not happen. We were lucky to have three flights scheduled as fly past only: two American Fighter jets, Memorial Flight and the Red Arrows (short display).
The weather was not kind to us, but that yellow thing in the sky did shine on one afternoon, this did not stop people from venturing out on local buses to various places of interest.
We managed to fit in a number of coffee/tea mornings/afternoons, with a game of musical bingo, raffle and on one afternoon even a dog show.
Thanking everyone that helped in the parking and gate duty, also other duties that were required help with.
As there was a cafe on site many of the members made use of the facilities for breakfast, lunch or just a coffee/tea.
Can I take this opportunity to thank all the Committee for their support during this very difficult 18 months. Bob
Upcoming TCs: 8-10 October is our AGM at Chelmer Valley School CM1 7ER. 20-24 October at Blenheim School is CANCELLED.
KENT
Rye Rugby Club, 5-9 August. Excellent turn out of 35 vans from Sussex, Chiltern and Kent. Weather was interesting with very strong winds, heavy rain and thankfully sunshine as well.
The hosts Fil and Jan provided an excellent Murder Mystery Quiz, which could only be solved by walking around the lovely Cinque Port town of Rye. Many like myself became aware of places and details we had never seen before despite them being there for hundreds of years. Well done all that participated with only one incorrect suspect accused.
The evenings were spent in the marquee chatting with friends and listening to the wind, rain and occasional beat of music. The rugby club also opened its restaurant for breakfast on the Saturday and Sunday and having tried it once, we just had to go back for a second time to confirm it was OK. We were not disappointed. Thank you Sheena for a great raffle and Julie for the quizzes. The Committee would also like to thank those members who helped erect the marquees and dismantle them in very windy conditions. 27-30 August, Hamilton’s Airfield, Bilsington. 21 vans, 19 from Kent and a very big welcome to two vans, both new members from NWM&NW. Very quiet location beside a private runway/airfield. The owner put on a small but quite impressive air display over two days. The fishing lakes on site were also a welcome addition for some members to spend time.
First night members gathered around a bonfire and the second and third evenings were spent in the marquees chatting to friends and listening to background music.
Thank you to hosts Tony and Marilynne for a great weekend and providing vegetables for the animal magic competition and the Aviation Inflation Challenge.
It was very nice to welcome several new members and first time attendees to both of our temporary campsites. Please remember to visit our Facebook page, Kent Group of the Motor Caravanners’ Club or kentgroupmcc. weebly.com for the latest updates and further information. If you are aware of someone who does not have internet access, please consider calling them to keep them updated.
Upcoming TCs: 8-10 October is our AGM at Oasis Academy, Sheerness. 10-12 December at Greatstone Primary School, Greatstone. 30 December-2 January at Oasis Academy, Sheerness.
LANCASHIRE
Our first TC in August was at Aspull Rugby Club with 15 Lancashire units. As Covid rules have relaxed the club room was open both evenings and Saturday afternoon. We met in the room on Friday and welcomed new members Lisa and Mark Middleton, (known as vloggers Northerners on Tour). We enjoyed bingo with Lisa K in charge. Dean's music was back and so were the line dancers. Yee Ha! Joy did a quiz.
Saturday lunch we went in the room for hotdogs then played various games. The evening brought a raffle, Take Your Pick, another quiz and more music and dancing. Our Chairman, Mel, then closed the evening and TC with announcements and updates and gave Lisa M and Mark a plaque as a welcome to the Group.
The later rally in August was a 10 night Casual Campsite at Lytham St Annes. Although it started with rainy weather there was soon a change to warm sunshine with sea breezes which were chilly on some evenings. There were approximately 90 units with visitors from the following groups: Yorkshire, East Midlands, West Country, Northern Counties, NWM&NW, Scotland, Essex, Anglia, and Nene Valley as well as Lancashire.
Days were spent sun worshipping and visiting surrounding areas – mainly Fairhaven Lake, St Annes, Lytham, or Blackpool. During the afternoons there were random games like boules or cubs. There was even a cubs match between Lancashire and Yorkshire. A very close game with a large audience appreciating the skill shown and Lancashire eventually coming from behind to take the honours.
There were several event tents joined together for gatherings in the evenings. So lots of catch-ups with friends old and new. Dean our DJ played music. Sometimes there was bingo, or a quiz or Take Your Pick.
It wasn’t Lancashire group’s usual rally at this venue. It was finalised quite late because of Covid-19 restrictions but everyone understood the difficulties and enjoyed it. Mel, our Chairman, and his team received many thanks for their work. Your temporary Scribe, Alma
Upcoming TCs: 8-10 October is our AGM at Warren Farm Equestrian Centre L37 0AN. Starts 2pm. 29-31 October at Whittingham & Goosnargh PE3 2JE. Starts 2pm.
MOTORCYCLE
31 July-12 August at Tenby – 15 MCG vans joined the South Wales group at Coleshill School in Tenby. The site was large and we had access to hot showers and toilets. After settling into our area, we set up our WhatsApp rally group so we could advise everyone on the ride outs planned for our 10 day stay. As with previous longer rallies we planned the ride outs on Monday, Wednesday and Friday of each week, leaving weekends and days in between to enjoy the local area.
There was certainly plenty to do and whilst the weather was warmer a few of us swam in the sea. On the first ride out, Martin led eight bikes on a 48-mile round trip, stopping at Angle Beach for lunch. The Quiz nights followed a day's ride out as before with everyone organising themselves into teams.
On the next ride out, 10 bikes enjoyed a steady ride to a lovely little inlet at Fishguard. We had lunch and enjoyed the surroundings before heading to Strumble Head Lighthouse for a look at the views, then headed home via another lovely inlet at Porthgain. Martin has found some lovely places for us to visit on our ride outs. I like how he reports on our trips on the WhatsApp group and how everyone puts their pictures on too, so those that have not been out with the group can see where they went.
Our third ride out headed to St Clears, down to Pendine Sands for lunch, then back home along the coast road. This was a very relaxing 41-mile trip.
On Saturday evening, our MCG group gathered for a cheese and wine evening organised by Jane and Sean. We had background music from Sandra, through her app, with requests being played. Great fun and lots of laughter ensued.
Our longest ride-out was on the Monday when nine bikes went to St David’s. A total of 111 miles but very enjoyable. On our final night together we had a sausage and cider evening. Jane organised some active games for us to play, including pass the parcel, welly/trainer throwing and paper folding, creating plenty of laughter. Great rally, ride outs, company and entertainment.
NENE VALLEY
AGM special notice – We shall be holding our AGM at Barnstones C&C Park, Great Bourton, OX17 1QU from Tuesday 12th-Thursday 14th October. The AGM will be held on the 13th October in the new hall sometime in the afternoon. We can’t give an exact time until we know when the hall will be free. Anybody prepared to stand on the Committee will be greatly welcomed. Bookings for Christmas dinner will be taken at the AGM. Please phone Kathleen on 07792 353803 to book. 2pm start. £12.00 pupn including electric + £1.00 per person rally fee.
When we arrived for our second Holiday temporary campsite at Sea Palling on the Friday to set up, the weather was fine. Geraldine and I soon had to move our vans as the heavens opened and it rained. The field soon became a lake with islands, so we had to find the high points and move.
Saturday morning vans started to turn up just as the ground started to dry out a bit. Paul and I started to park them, we had a total of 37 from all parts of the country.
The weather improved and our members started to explore the area by car, bus and bike. Some of us sat around in the sun. We had a coffee morning to welcome all and have a good old chat as normal. Denis
Upcoming TCs: 12-14 October at Barnstones C&C Park, Gt. Bourton OX17 1QU. AGM. 2pm start. £12.00 pupn (inc. electric) + £1.00 per person rally fee. 5-7 November at The Cock Inn, Broom, SG18 9NA. 2pm start. 2-5 December at Barnstones C&C Park, Great Bourton OX17 1QU. 2pm start.
NORTHERN COUNTIES
Many thanks to our Chairman Bill Hanby for this month’s write up, as I am currently away for a month.
Our first rally at Runswick Bay was hosted by Kevin Pratt and Sue Cole and had 34 motorhomes attending. We had one van from East Midlands, one from West Wessex, one from Yorkshire, two from Lancashire and the remainder, 29, were all Northern Counties. We had new members attending, G&N Millen, A Williams and J Kirkup.
As we were not far from Whitby many members caught the bus there to have the obligatory fish and chips, although most didn't make the climb up the 199 steps to the Abbey. Some brave members walked down to Runswick Bay but had to take refreshment at the pub at the top, after the steep climb back up, before making it back to the site. Another favourite jaunt was to the lovely village of Staithes, but again, a steep climb back up to the pub at the top for refreshments.
Another first for Northern Counties was our attendance at Great Ayton Cricket Club which was hosted by Dave and Pam Brack, where we had 24 motorhomes attending: one from East Midlands, one from West Wessex, one from Yorkshire, two from Lancashire and the remaining 19 from Northern Counties.
Neil and Jo Huggon organised two well attended walks on two consecutive days and many walked into the village to see where the young James Cook had lived, attended school and church. Many members tried the famous local ice cream and also the award winning pies from the butchers. There was an evening cricket match which some members watched and then they went into the cricket club where Val Sawczyn ran a few >>

The road to enjoyment starts here!
games of alternative bingo. Port Mulgrave was the third of the follow-on rallies and was hosted by George and Nora Davie and attended by 29 motorhomes: one from West Wessex, one from Nene Valley, two from Yorkshire, four from Lancashire and the rest, 21, all Northern Counties. The views from the rally field were fantastic looking out over the bay. Members made the most of the local pub and beer garden.
The date and venue for our AGM has been changed, we will now be at Prior Pursglove College, Guisborough TS14 6BU from Friday 29 October to Sunday 31 October. Please check our website/Facebook page for the correct start time (it is probably strictly after 5pm). The AGM will be on the Saturday morning at 10.30am prompt. We are in need of members to come forward to stand on Committee so don’t be shy. Please submit any items for discussion at the Members' Meeting to the Secretary by 15 October so these can be added to the Agenda. Many thanks, Paula

TC and AGM, 17-22 August. On arrival we were warmly welcomed by our hosts Gary, Yvonne and Peter Little. Great hosts who made every effort to ensure everyone enjoyed this special rally. Each day our hosts supplied a quiz and the daily winners were Thelma Kyle-Ewing, Ellie Robinson, B Smith, J Coalter and Ruth Ross.
Despite the consistent rain a total of 120 members in 72 motorhomes attended the rally. We also welcomed one member from the Lancashire Group who enjoyed our hospitality. On Saturday morning our AGM was held and our new Committee was duly elected. They all looked rather well in their white shirts/blouses and ties/cravats. Due to the Covid restrictions we didn't have access to the hall but this did not curtail the entertainment. Several members brought along gazebos and music was supplied by Gary, Joe and Norman. Members braved the rain and sang and danced the nights away.
Congratulations to Jean Currie and Noel and Heather Boyd on their new motorhomes. To any members celebrating recent birthdays or anniversaries congratulations from the club. A warm welcome to all our new members and thanks to our resident photographer Roy. Finally, a big thank you to Gary, Yvonne and Peter for hosting this very successful event. Cynthia Willis (see photos by Roy Smith online).
Portrush TC, 3-5 September. What a wonderful weekend in Portrush Primary School. We were all warmly greeted by the Coalter family (with a little help from the Willis’s and Murphy’s who were in training for the next rally in Portadown!)
Even though we had 36 vans in on the Friday night it was very quiet, but the nights are getting shorter and colder and everybody was nice and warm in their motorhomes. As it was supposed to be the Air Show weekend we were treated to an aerobatic display of 2 helicopters going overhead on Saturday morning. Some headed to Coleraine on the train to do some shopping and also visit the car boot sale. A further four vans arrived during the day.
On Saturday night some members were entertained by our visitor from England, Peter Johnston, who played a few tunes on his guitar.
As usual, Sunday morning came around too soon, and it was time for everyone to pack up and go home. There were two prize winners for the quiz and Dingbats: Cynthia Willis and Diane Waide. Hope to see you all soon. Yvonne Little (see photos by Irene Hewitt online).
NWM&NW
Two rallies to report on this month. The first was at Carsington Water. Many thanks to East Midlands Group for giving us permission to use the venue.
Thursday's arrivals had wonderful sunshine and took advantage of the view, parking overlooking the reservoir. A small rally but everyone had an enjoyable time. Friday saw an impromptu coffee morning gathering at Mike and Linda's van. In the evening a chippy van appeared by the gate. On Saturday, after some went to the visitor centre or for a stroll by the water, there was a social get together for a chat and a drink or two. The book title quiz answers were read out at the bring your own coffee morning on Sunday. The single entry won the sweets, so well done to them. There were visitors from East Midlands and Severn Valley. New members Michael and Marge Whittaker were welcomed to their first rally.
Llangollen Pavillion was as popular as ever with visitors from Lancashire, Isle of Wight and Northern Counties. Many thanks to George and Joan who marshalled the rally throughout the long weekend, manning the gate and parking up. A big thank you, also, to Geoff Balshaw for his help with the parking.
Most members were out and about as there is a lot to do and see in the area from a stroll along the canal to riding the steam train or just wandering round town. Kerry, Mike, Trish and Keith held a games afternoon on the field on Saturday. Many joined in the fun, badminton, jenga, field darts and more. A big thank you goes to them for organising it. In the evening we had outdoor bingo with callers the two Sues – some amusing call variations! Thank you for the entertainment.
A table top sale took place during the bring your own coffee morning when donations were collected for the N.S.P.C.C. A total of £85 was raised. Thank you to everyone. A further outdoor gathering in the evening for the raffle draw had everyone singing Happy Birthday to George and Michael. Sue Clarke managed to lead a successful sing-a-long of London's Burning in spite of some running off to hide. A most enjoyable time for all who came and supported the various activities.

SCOTTISH
Hello fellow members, I have just returned yesterday from two successful meets down south. By the time you read this newsletter another AGM will be upon us.
Coldstream was attended by 10 members: six from the Scottish Group, Alan and Ros Burnstein from Chiltern Group, Dave and Maureen Goodall from East Wessex Group, and two from Northern Counties Andy and Fiona Louth, Hendry and Dot Valks. Nice to see you all, haste ye back. This was a very good location, we set up a social area and had a great a number of get togethers in the open for coffee and drinks. A café on site and walks on the estate were enjoyed by members.
The follow on meet at Aberlady was attended by 10 members, four of which were at Coldstream. Eight Scottish vans plus Dave and Maureen Goodall from East Wessex, Maria and Ian Hill with their son Jakob from the NWM&NW Group. Haste you back to the Scottish Group. Andrew and Tommy McGraw, a group member, made our stay very pleasant thanks to them both.
Forthcoming meets are Dunfermline AGM meet from the 15-18 October. Noahs Ark in Perth from 18-22 October as a follow-on meet. Regards, Squeezebox
SEVERN VALLEY
Due to CoM's (HO) instructions we know can only have all rallies on a pre-bookable basis by contacting our rally officer, Sandy, or booking online at our website. All the rally information will be available on the Severn valley Group website, so keep looking on it for more information www.severnvalleymcc.co.uk.
Newlands pre-Malvern Show – Another successful busy rally for the pre-Malvern show, good support and thanks to hosts Sheila and Stuart, Barrie and Tina for all stepping in at the last minute.
Bridgnorth – Another good rally, it was Sandy our rally officer's 60th birthday and her husband (chairman) went the extra mile for her by paying for entertainment, the Nice & Sleazy band and a free pig roast for everyone attending this rally and paid for from his own pocket and not club funds.
Usual Severn Valley members' team work, we installed Jeremy’s own marquee without Sandy having any idea about what was happening. On behalf of everyone who attended thank you Jeremy and Sandy for a lovely weekend. Also thanks to John and Joy Rice and co hosts for running the rally.
Hereford Holiday weekend – This event was at Hereford Rowing Club, a lovely location very close to the town centre on the side of the river. The club supplied a great help yourself breakfast which many took advantage of, they also supplied meals at night time. Rocket Ron who ran the rally with his good lady Ali organised a game of boules, open the box, bingo and music in the club house was supplied by Roger.
Everyone had a fabulous time. Thanks go to Alison and her helpers for running the excellent rally.
Upcoming TCs: 1-3 October at Avon Bank Meadow Perhore WR10 2JF. £13 PUPN. 29-31 October is our AGM at Christopher Whitehead school Worcester WR2 4AF. Committee vacancies are available, please contact Liz Harrison secretary (severnvalley@ themotorcarravanersclub.co.uk) if you are interested in a position on the committee.

Thank you to everyone who came to our Bude rally, making it an enjoyable occasion. Whilst the weather was inclement at times and we would have liked some more sun, people were able to get out and about walking, cycling and some even braved the sea for a swim. Even though the temperature dropped cooler of an evening we managed to gather for three of the six evenings. We had a bingo evening with only one person managing to win on two occasions so at least the prizes were shared out. Our senior moments quiz evening caused much laughter with us all agreeing it was an evening to be repeated. We also managed an afternoon of Molkky which we agreed next time would include drinks to hopefully enable us to improve our aims! On our final evening we held our raffle and had an end of holiday party with drinks and nibbles plus some music, this was the best evening weather wise enabling us to sit out for longer.
John and Chris, our rally officers, are putting together a full programme of events for next year, so we will need members to come forward and offer their help for the events to run. If you can offer your support for events, either hosting, co-hosting, providing entertainment please contact someone on the committee to discuss how you could help. We also need new committee members as we have lost a number during the last 12 months. Unfortunately, it is going to be simple next year – no offers of help, no events.
We are keeping all events bookable until the end of >>
the year as we have numbers limited by sites for the events. Bookings and cancellations via the website at www.southwestpeninsulagroup.co.uk
We have 1 TC with spaces available: Trevarrian Holiday Park, New Year, 29 December-2 January.
S&W WALES
Tenby Holiday Rally 31 July-12 August. The rally was hosted by the committee and 73 vans attended. Greenhill School was the venue for this year’s holiday rally but due to Covid restrictions we were unable to obtain use of the school hall. This obviously stopped any indoor activities but access to the toilets and showers was a bonus.
However, we did manage to sit out a few nights and a big thank you to John Davies, our resident troubadour, for leading the singing. It was a shame it was so windy and perhaps I will gloss over the members taking down awnings at 2am in their jim jams.
There were 11 vans belonging to the motorcycle group who had ride outs during the day and games in the evenings. Also visiting were four vans from Severn Valley group, one from East Wessex, two East Midlands, one Avon and three from the West Country.
Having Tenby town so close was a bit of a bonus for eating out and shopping and the bus station for trips further afield.
There were some celebrations: Eleri had a 65th birthday, John Davies had a birthday and Sheila and Terry had a 60th Diamond Wedding Anniversary. A big thank you to Philippa and Pauline, for their help with the cleaning.
Brecon Sports Association Fields 12-15 August. Hosted by Sandra and John Davies, Muriel and Dave Butt who welcomed 45 vans including Rosemary and Ken from Scotland, Michelle and Peter NWM&NW and Alison and Ron from Severn Valley.
The field was shared with the Camping & Caravan Club, hosted by Francis and Neil who were very accommodating with the shared space. It’s a lovely site with very good facilities with a pleasant walk along the canal into town.
Once again the weather continued to be changeable but we managed to do a drawing competition. Thank you to all who took part and the winner for the most correct answers were Sian and Colin and the best drawing prize went to Ian Ruck. The lucky van drawn by Ken Swan was won by Sue and Keith.
We managed to have a sing along on Saturday led by the usual suspect, John Davies, and a good night was had by all. The weather was mild and dry which helped to keep members out. Also thanks to Keith for his brilliant speaker.
We as a club support the Wales Air Ambulance but because of the pandemic no monies have been collected. We have now had a beautiful silk quilt donated by Mel to raffle for the charity and we started to sell the tickets during the sing song and our very generous members bought £120 worth of tickets. The raffle will run until Christmas time so there is plenty of time to enter.
Huge thanks to Muriel Batt for the above reports as we were spending August with our family. The Aberystwyth TC will be reported next month.
The AGM will be in Pencoed School, nr Bridgend on 15-17 October and is bookable with Peter Heale.
Upcoming TCs: 15-17 October is our AGM at Pencoed School, Nr. Bridgend, CF35 5LZ. Starts 5pm. 26-28 November at Rhiwbina School is CANCELLED due to building work at the school. 10-12 December at Baskerville Hall HR3 5LE. Fabulous venue, check our website for details. Starts 12 noon. 30 December-3 January is our New Year Party at Princess Gwenllian Centre, Kidwelly, SA17 4UL. Starts 12 noon.
SUSSEX
What a wonderful weekend was had by all at South Harting Flower Show this year. Twenty vans joined us in the sunshine on Friday, including new Sussex members Colin and Wendy Chrismas and Mick and Sue Paskins. We hope you enjoyed your first time with the group, and we will see you again soon.
A few of us gathered at the pavilion on Friday night and helped Ann celebrate her birthday with cake and a natter.
Saturday morning three brave souls went to the show with their craft entries for the homecraft competition, and the afternoon gave us two first prizes and a commended out of the five entries. Phil GilliatSmith came first with a beautiful wooden chopping board, and an amazing fruit bowl he made from an old washing machine glass door won the first prize trophy too. Ann had commended for “the Colonel”. Well done Linda for your two entries as well.
After the show, the local parish council laid on a “Party in the Park” to celebrate the end of covid restrictions, and we were all invited to join in. There was a hog roast, pizza van, ice cream and live music all afternoon/evening. The atmosphere was wonderful. So lovely to see everyone having a great time.
A few members joined in the church service on Sunday morning before making our way home to recover and get ready for the next TC.
Thank you to all who came along to support not just us, but the South Harting Horticultural Society as well. We hope to see you all again next year for our 54th Anniversary which we hope will be 19-21 August 2022. We'll reaffirm when we have the date confirmed. Kim
Carr Taylor arrived and so did illness and unexpected parties which meant the total of people diminished somewhat. When Marilyn was too poorly to host, the ever helpful Teresa and Peter stepped in at the last minute to book everyone in. Thanks Teresa and Peter.
The wine tasting and ploughman's lunch looked superb, and we're sure everyone was more the wiser for enjoying the expertly given tour.
Don't forget we are taking bookings for Christmas via linda.reading51@yahoo.co.uk.
The weather was fantastic for a lovely weekend at Loxwood hosted by Teresa and Peter. A number of years since we had used this terrific venue with a refurbished village hall, some lovely walks, and new carvings around the field. We were thrilled to be back. Maggie even managed to recruit a couple who were innocently walking their dog through the field.
Excellent quizzes on Friday and Saturday evening were well received, as was the card bingo. The Guyvers never disappoint when hosting! Even organised a 50p board which was won by Linda Reading. Carole
Our next meets are 13-15 September at Wild Heart Hill, Findon, BN14 0RJ. 24-26 September at Tillingbourne School, GU4 8NB. 1-4 October at the ever popular The Barn Lancing BN15 8JG. Bookable only. Electric points now booked, but more may be available if you book now. Don't forget to have your say at the AGM on 30 October. Bring your halloween outfit.
WEST COUNTRY
Our first TC meet in August was held at Westward Ho! Golf Club on 11-16 August. Thirty-one vans attended. the weather was changeable but everyone made the best of the days out. Ann Russell, one of our members, was selling hand-knitted teddy bears to help our Chairman's charity, and raised £37.60.
Our next TC meet was held at the Rugby Club at Bude on the 26-31 August and was hosted by the committee. A very popular venue with a total of 61 vans attending. The weather was gorgeous with sunshine every day. The town is within walking distance of the rugby club and everyone enjoyed the craft shows and shops. A group of singers were at the quay singing shanty songs for the visitors.
On the Thursday night we has bingo outside in the sunshine. On Friday and Saturday we had the club house and enjoyed play your cards right and bingo. Our resident DJ Ken put on a spectacular evenings entertainment with music and dancing. On Sunday morning coffee and a raffle was held.
Please note the Centry Touring Park TC was cancelled by the site claiming triple booking.
Our AGM meet is to be held at Riverside CP on Saturday 9th October. The TC is from 8-10 October. Please can as many of the West Country members try and attend. This is a great venue, and has full facilities, restaurant, bar and Clubhouse.
The Christmas Dinner and entertainment is from 3-5 December at Riverside CP and sharing with SWP group. Cost of meet is £17 pupn, and the meal is £24. Please contact the rally officer for more details. All monies must be paid by 1st November, the cheque or cash to the Rally Officer, Jenny Ten-Bokkel 07375 987911 or phone Heather Bubb on 07817 916904 for address to send cheques if not able to pay at the next TC.
WEST WESSEX
All Covid guidelines will still be strictly applied. We look forward to giving a warm welcome to visitors from other groups.
Corsham Rugby Club, 12-15 August – Andy and Gill took on the mantle for hosting this rally and welcomed 15 vans, 12 West Wessex, two East Wessex and one Avon to this well laid out site. The early arrivals had to survive some torrential rain but by late afternoon it had ceased to give us a very pleasant weekend.
Shopping trips to Bath, Chippenham and Corsham were made over the next couple of days from those who like sitting on a bus, but Corsham had to be made by “shank’s pony” but what a lovely walk by the lake and parkland much loved by the local dog population and their owners. The town high street was a throwback to another age, very pretty and reputed to having provided some of the town scenes for Poldark. Must recommend the food and beer from The Flemish Weaver Inn, not to be missed.
Lucky for us the member from Avon, Roger Clark, had his music kit with him so on the Friday set it up in the bar where he regaled us with his singing and Karaoke, inviting us to join in, which we did but were much too shy to get hands on the microphone with the exception of one lady who smashed out some of her favourites. A good evening.
Andy and Gill cooked up a dish of sausage and chips for us on the Saturday with more of Roger’s music as background. All in all, a great rally with special thanks to Andy, Gill and Roger for making it happen.
Salisbury Rugby Club, 26-30 August – Once again Andy and Gill were the hosts after a traumatic few hours. Apparently a herd of cows had been parked on our camping TC in the field next to The Trooper Inn and we all know what cows are best at spreading around, yes you’ve guessed it, cow...? The rally was promptly cancelled and within a couple of hours we were on for the rugby club, well done Andy (our rally officer) and the rugby club for making our Bank Holiday weekend.
So here we are at the rugby club, all 10 vans of us from West Wessex being cared for by Andy and Gill. Salisbury is a good place to visit with its cathedral, cloisters, market place and busy town which was fairly crowded over the weekend. The walk into town via the river route is very enjoyable and for those who like the easy life buses were aplenty.
Our hosts organised a cream tea and get together on the Saturday so a good weekend. Great surprise >>
to arrive on the site and find a Spitfire replica erected in memory of the people of Salisbury who built 2,500 Spitfires in their back gardens, sheds, garages, underground etc… after the works in Southampton suffered heavy bombing during WW2. Don’t miss it if you travel up Castle Road, Salisbury.
Once again Andy and Gill, thanks for your great work in August, much appreciated. Dave Mc

YORKSHIRE
What a great venue at Derwent Arms, 27 vans attended: 22 Yorkshire, one East Wessex, one Chiltern, two Northern Counties and one S&W Wales. Thursday night was a lucky night for Eddie and Maz who won the card bingo. Lovely meals were enjoyed at the pub by many members over the weekend.
Most of members went in to York during the day, it rained all day Saturday but didn't stop members going out. There was a singer Nigel Heap in the pub on Saturday night. Good time had by all.
Northallerton was a lovely weekend and 32 vans enjoyed the lovely weather. Many of the members enjoyed a walk into Northallerton to go to the market and assortment of shops. Some members sampled the local pubs for food and drink.
The club house was open where it made a change to meet up with everyone and take part in the quizzes, games and a game of card bingo.
Beverley race course is a lovely venue, 25 vans joined us for a good weekend, some members walked into Beverley and some took the bus in and also visited York on the bus. The market was very busy and with a lot of bargains, meals and drinks were taken in local pubs and cafes. A great walk around the race track was taken by most of the members with dogs.
We had a room every night and it was great to see some new and old members meeting and catching up with everyone.
Upcoming TCs: 12-14 November at Rolls Royce Club BB18 6HJ (Bookable). 26-28 November at Mytholmroyd Community Centre HX7 5AF.
