Twenty-three vans came to Banham Zoo for a long break at our post-Norwich show TC. We had visitors from several groups as well as our own. Most went into the zoo and found their way out again. Generally a relaxing time with shops over the road including a butchers, chippy, an “open all hours” as well as a hairdressers. Many went for a walk in the village. Barbeques were much in evidence. Despite the main site being full we had plenty of room on the rally field. We even had a visit from a Vulture that landed close to the vans during a flying display. Thanks to Keith, Teresa Tony Carole and Carol and Derek for doing the bookings and finances for a good break. Forty-four vans came to Hunstanton Community Centre for the August Bank Holiday break, 31 Anglia, five first timers and 13 visitors from five other groups.Despite the field not being “snooker table level” all managed to level up successfully. It is far easier to get to the beach and town from here. We shall return in 2022. An excellent hall and facilities were at our disposal and we made full use of them despite certain times that the hall was in use by others. However this was not a problem and we worked round it aided by a very obliging caretaker. Thursday evening was the only evening we did not have the hall. Friday most went into the town or the sea front and in the evening Carol collected the fees and Keith called the bingo. Saturday evening tea, coffee and then Richard Sanders compered a game of Call my Bluff with a panel of Derek, Keith and Jackie. This basically developed into a riotous evening and was enjoyed by all. We had the raffle, and the Dodgy Dip just like old times. A bottle of whisky was raffled off separately and raised £80 for our charity E.A.C.H. Sunday evening David Seals sang for us assisted by others and a great time was had, even some dancing!
The Macmillan Nurses bucket was passed round and made £50. On Monday we had card bingo in the evening. A very successful TC in a good venue. OK so the weather could have been kinder! Thanks to Keith, Teresa, Brian, Jenny, Tony and Carole for the parking and hall setting up, Carol and Derek for dealing with the finances and bookings, and the tea ladies. In 2022 we shall return to stewards for the rallies not the Committee. Scribe Derek Upcoming TCs: 1-3 October at Acle Academy, South Walsham Road, Acle NR13 3ER. Starts: 5pm. AVON Walcot RFC Lansdown, Bath. 6-11 August. Thanks to hosts Pete and Pat Watson and co-hosts Mike and Dawn Hailstone for their warm welcome, it was a very enjoyable stay. Many of the members made full use of the Park & Ride opposite the venue, to make the short journey into Bath. Others walked along the footpath to Beckford tower which was built as a folly, overlooking the city of Bath. Meals in the clubhouse were cooked by Fiona and large portions were served at a reasonable cost. Our hosts Pete and Pat provided background music with quizzes and card bingo which was very entertaining. Longstanding member Stan celebrated his 91st birthday with lots of cake being shared around. Sue read out the info and welcomed first time members and visitors and handed out birthday cards. Pete and Pat followed the announcements with the raffle. Great Torrington RFC, 20-25 August.
