Entertainment included a sword fight performed by real Vikings, and a circle dance performed by some of the maidens and the bride. Live music played by the bride’s aunt and uncle’s band, The Marion Drexler Band. During the first dance, they sang an original song called Under the Honey Moon. It became the bride and groom’s wedding song. It is special because it is medieval tradition to drink honey mead for the first month (or moon) to encourage fertility. Hence the term: Honeymoon. The bride and groom drank out of handmade Celtic wedding goblets, each one carved with two rings around the stems.

We met walking our dogs and love the outdoors so we wanted to incorporate both themes into our wedding. The ceremony was held along the shore of the Thousand Islands National Park, Mallorytown Landing, followed by a reception in a rustic barn at Happy Life Farms. Having our dogs present as well as Stacey’s arrival at the ceremony site in the cedarstrip canoe that was made for Curtis by his father created a memorable and special wedding day. 28 2017 Wedding Trends

We are perfect for each other, we are about 60 per cent complete opposites but the other 40 per cent we are one person. I think we create the perfect balance every couple needs. Our wedding day was a long time coming and it was absolutely perfect, truly one of the best days of our lives, besides the day our daughter was born.

Favourite memory of the day? Seeing each other for the first time. I couldn’t stop crying and Kristian couldn’t stop smiling. It was a very special moment.

Favourite memory since the wedding? Our honeymoons were pretty amazing, going on our first airplane ride, spending uninterrupted time together, and seeing new places. It has also been wonderful starting our life together, getting a dog, and sharing in the little moments.

If you could do it again, what would you do differently? We would do nothing differently. The day was perfect.

Best piece of advice received? Someone told us to remember the little moments of our wedding day. The moments that weren’t photographed, that were private between us, moments that made us smile.

Best advice you’d like to pass on? Don’t worry about the small stuff. Once the day comes all you will care about is saying, “I do.”

Biggest change since your wedding? We didn’t live together before our wedding, so getting used to each other’s routines has been a big but wonderful change.

What are you looking forward to in the next year? Looking forward to growing closer together, continuing our adventures, and making more memories.

When did it hit you that you were married? It really hit us that we were married when we were on our honeymoon. For the first time, it was just the two of us. Another ‘wow’ moment was when we moved all our belongings together in our house. Even now after a year of marriage we are still having those little moments.

Did you go on a honeymoon, if so where?

We actually went on two honeymoons. We rented a

cottage in Killaloe, Ontario the week after our wedding. Later in February we went to Cayo Coco, Cuba for a week of relaxation and warmth. Remembering both our honeymoons, we would have to say our favourite was our week at the cottage. We were in our element, canoeing, hiking, and enjoying the outdoors.

How many dresses did you try on? What advice do you have for a bride looking for a dress? I tried on about 10 dresses and in the end, it was obvious what one I should wear. My advice would be to buy a

dress that is comfortable, and suits your personality.

Any advice on the planning a wedding? Plan the day that you want, don’t worry about the little things, and don’t be afraid to ask for help.

Begin working on your guest list so you will know how many wedding invites (and maybe save the dates) to eventually order (one per single adult, couple, or family invited). Start your wedding invitation shopping so you can narrow your choices to only your favorites. Be sure to order samples, which are usually blank, so you can personally see the paper and design. If you are planning to mail save the date cards to guests, begin searching for your preferred design of them as well.

If you will be sending save the dates, place your order based on the number of guests to whom you will be mailing them as they are optional. Review sample wedding invitation verses and give some thought as to how your wording will read. If sending save the dates, prepare and mail them.

Select your wedding invitation design and gather all the details that will be printed on them such as date, times, name, and address of location(s), etc. Determine what invitation enclosures or extras you will also be ordering – reception cards, response cards, pre-printed return address on envelopes, direction/map cards, decorative envelope seals, colored lining for inner envelopes, matching thank you cards or informal notes, etc. Some of these options may not be available depending on your chosen style. You may also be able to order matching menu, table, and place cards for your design. The more items you can order together, the more you will save by avoiding separate shipping costs later.

If you are including response cards, check with your dinner location to see how far in advance they need your final guest count so you can select the RSVP date that will be printed on them (typically 2–3 weeks before wedding). You also need to decide whose address will be printed on the response envelope or postcard (meaning they will receive the replies). If you are doing your own invitations, create and mail one to yourself to see how they hold up through the mail.

Finalize your wording and place your wedding invitation order. Remember to order some extras now so you won’t run out if there are last-minute guests to invite and so you also have a few as keepsakes. If the option is available, order some extra envelopes just to be safe. Review your guest list to make sure you have current addresses for everyone. Consider custom wedding stamps for mailing your wedding invites. Some retailers give you the option of choosing from pre-designed wedding postage or simply uploading a photo to create your own stamp design. NOTE: Be sure to have one of your ready-to-mail invitations weighed at a post office before you purchase any postage stamps to make sure you are using the correct amount for each invitation.

Fold and/or assemble your wedding invitations, if necessary. Hand address mailing envelopes and write guest names on inside envelopes, if they are included. Purchase and apply postage stamps to the response card envelopes or response postcards, if they will be included. Take one fully assembled and sealed invitation to the post office to have it weighed to determine the correct amount of postage needed. Purchase your stamps or order custom wedding stamps with appropriate postage amount required for mailing.
