Health & Wellbeing

There’s an ancient proverb that: “The mind can make a heaven of hell, or a hell of heaven.” Both good health and poor health so often begin in the mind – whether we know it or not – that it clearly makes sense to nurture our mental health. That way we can feel good more of the time and help others do the same.

There is an abundance of advice available to help people live well, not least from the Mental Health Foundation, which has been championing the cause since 1949.The organisation’s ‘mantra’ is: “Prevention is better than cure,” and it offers some great tips that everyone can follow.

These include:

1. Look after your physical health. Stay active. Eat a diverse diet rich in fruit and vegetables and drink lots of water. NB cakes, biscuits and white bread do not appear in the recommended list.

2. Stay connected with other people, through visits, calls, social networking, emails, letters and video links. Care for others, too. Feeling needed/valued aids healthy selfesteem and also supports theirs. Reach out to the vulnerable. 3. Talk about your feelings. Share them as part of your normal conversation.

4. Take breaks/’me-time’. Do things you’re good at or enjoy, be kind to yourself and practice frequent mindfulness, being fully in the present moment rather than fretting about what did or might happen.

5. Seek support as needed, don’t struggle on alone. There are many professionals, support groups, advice agencies and others who can help, including your own GP.

Access your wellbeing

Taking care of your mental health is as important as taking care of your physical health. The stigma ‘I’m not going to a psychologist because I’m not crazy’, is limiting you access to your physical, mental and emotional wellness. There is a huge connection between body, mind and spirit, therefore we are the result of our actions, thoughts and emotions. A ‘broken’ mind gives you as much pain as a broken bone in your body. The most common issues affecting wellbeing are worry about the future, stress and anxiety. Here at Laura Wellness Centre, we provide the tools and information you need to access your wellbeing. Laura Wellness Centre is based in the centre of Worcester, very close to Foregate train station and offers complementary health care to the Worcester community and surrounding areas of West Midlands.

Your Optimum Life is a service which sets people free. Whether they suffer from low self-esteem, phobias, stress, underconfidence, anxiety or PTSD, they can be helped to change their thinking and with it their whole life experience, setting out on a new future with far more joy and optimism.

The service is multipronged, with owner Caroline Butcher a Trainer of Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) and Hypnotherapy and a Master Practitioner of Time-Line Therapy® and Coaching for both personal and business development. Highly experienced and effective, Caroline works with respect and empathy for each individual client, selecting the best techniques to help them break free of whatever issues they find problematic.

Sessions are one-to-one and focussed on changing the un-conscious thinking which creates unwanted behaviours such as bad habits, poor health or underachievement. The tried and trusted techniques identify the thought processes, attitudes, patterns and behaviours creating the issues and replace them with new and healthier ways of thinking, simultaneously changing the results for the better.

They aim to create positive change very quickly, without the need for deep and lengthy soul-searching, which many people find off-putting.

Says Caroline: “Hypnotherapy, NLP and Time-Line Therapy® are very powerful and lifechanging processes and are very results focussed. I am passionate about helping people to achieve their optimum lives and the benefits are long lasting and significant.”
