CORNWALL

Cornwall is packed with tourist treasures to be enjoyed by all ages but perhaps one of the most famous of them all is the Eden Project. While the county is famed for quaint fishing village, pirate hang-outs and legends of King Arthur. The gardens of Eden sport futuristic ‘biomes’, giant domes housing self-contained collections of plants from the Rainforest and Mediterranean.

Gardeners sometimes head straight from Eden to the nearby Lost Gardens of Heligan, no longer lost, but offering a great tale and an array of horticultural joys, outdoors.

Cornwall is also famous for artists, both living and dead. Not to be missed is the Tate St Ives, displaying their work and stories to great effect.

NORTH YORKSHIRE

North Yorkshire offers some of the most dramatic and beautiful landscapes in the country, from the wilds of the North York Moors to the expansive golden sands of the east coast and from the awesome ups and downs of the Yorkshire Dales to the avian paradise of Bempton Cliffs, where half a million seabirds from guillemots to puffins gather March to October to raise their next generation.

Scarborough became the country’s first seaside resort in the early 17th century when aristocrats came to take the newly discovered spa waters. It has been pleasing the away-staying public ever since, providing fun for all, like its smaller but just as friendly close neighbours, Filey, Cayton Bay and Bridlington.

Welcome to the Hotel Ellenby, sat on the cliffs of Scarborough’s stunning North Bay with panoramic views across the bay and of the castle.

Built In 1843, this Grade II listed building dates back to just before the railway arrived in the town and maintains a traditional feel. The majority of rooms have a sea view, from which you may even glimpse a dolphin, porpoise or whale and we have our own private car park. We offer a hearty breakfast, using locally-sourced produce, and are on hand to advise you of local amenities and events. You can also enjoy a drink from our honesty bar or play one of the many games available in our comfortable guest lounge. The location could not be better, being within easy walking distance to Scarborough Castle (13 minutes), Peasholm Park (10 minutes), Scarborough Station (15 minutes), South Bay Beach (15 minutes) and only a 30 minute drive from RSPB Bempton Cliffs. Three great restaurants are within a 10 minute walk with the closest pub being only two. If you are coming to Scarborough to attend an event we are almost opposite the cricket ground and the Open Air Theatre is minutes away.

WALES

Wales is a small country with a mountainous reputation as a holiday destination of excellence. It has character galore with its immense heritage of customs, language, legends and history, not to mention some of the country’s finest landscapes.

Snowdonia is prime tourist territory with its beautiful, awe-inspiring mountains, beautiful beaches resorts such as Llandudno and Barmouth and extremely wellbuilt castles. No-one is ever far from a castle in Wales. There are 600 of them in all, among them the impressive round towered four comprising a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Conwy, Caernarfon, Beaumaris and Harlech.

Popular attractions include the Ffestiniog Railway, Portmeirion Italianate village and the Isle of Anglesey, most of it an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and approached via the spectacular Menai Bridge.

Much of Wales is protected from development, making it ever popular with Midlanders escaping the noise and traffic of the built environment. Nowhere is that more explicit than in the UNESCO Dyfi Biosphere, an extraordinarily rich haven of wildlife based on the River Dyfi, Mid-Wales.

While the wildlife is diverse and extra-special, there is also a great deal of industrial heritage linked to slate quarries and coal and copper mines.

In the south, Cardiff is a great hub of sports, culture and shopping, with assets including its own well preserved castle and national museum with world class art, while the Brecon Beacons attract adventurers to enjoy the great and mountainous outdoors by foot, cycle or perhaps canoe. The Pembrokeshire Coast National Park is likewise treasured.

If you love food, you’ll love Brood, so much more than a farm shop.

If you like your food fresh from farm to fork, Brood Farm Shop is the place for you. The shop stocks fresh local fruit and vegetables, meat from its own farms and a range of specialities and delicatessen choices made by other quality local producers including bakers and breweries.

Since opening in September 2020, Brood Farm has become known for selling food, drink, household goods and gifts, and also for serving up tasty fare in the onsite café.

Now the popular business has also added a traditional village pub to its portfolio, the Lygon Arms at nearby Feckenham. There, as well as being able to enjoy top notch beer and other beverages, customers can feast on superior Brood Farm gastro food, expertly cooked by an innovative cheffing team managed by Stephen Bennett and Head Chef Gary Nunn.

Brood was created around the concept of a family made up of customers, staff, suppliers and the local community, all supporting each other. Owners Claire Davis and Phil Oliver are passionate about the area they serve from their premises near Redditch and work closely with other local businesses to ensure the public receive exemplary products and service.

Within two miles of the farm shop, they produce their own beef, lamb, pork, chicken and eggs, while on the farm shop site they grow a variety of fruit, vegetables, plants and herbs. They stock goods such as jam, honey, beer and cider from local specialists. There is a Head Chef, Andy, who devises menus for the café and a production chef, Amanda, who creates ready meals, pastries and much more.

Since the opening, Brood hampers have become highly popular, coming in various sizes and prices and making excellent gifts.

People can order their goods online and either have them delivered - a service which is free on

orders of £40 or more - or make use of the Cluck & Collect service.

But, many people will enjoy visiting in person, especially for Brood’s special occasions.

General Manager Antony Fletcher says: “We have a licenced picnic area and a pizza oven made out of a Morris Minor. We plan to put on family-oriented events and barbecues as well as our monthly farmers’ markets. We want people to come and really enjoy their experience.

“The Lygon Arms fits really well with what we do. It had a spell as the ‘Forest of Feckenham’ but has now gone back to its original name. It’s a traditional ‘local’ with a bar, lounge and restaurant and it has been completely refurbished since Claire and Phil took it over. The food is first class.”
