don’t know about you, but I can hardly believe that this madness has been going on for a year now. It’s mind-boggling to think of how different life was back when Covid was just the stuff of movie plots. Using the word “Zoom” in every other sentence, working in one’s pyjamas, and deciding whether to turn to the black market for toilet rolls are all things that we never imagined would become reality. But in looking back over these surreal times I’ve also been reflecting on the good. Like many of you, I’ve celebrated a lockdown birthday – yep, I’ve turned 40 since I last spoke to you! I’ll admit to feeling disappointed that my planned celebrations couldn’t go ahead, but what meant even more was the outpouring of love and thoughtfulness from friends and family. So, enough about me. What about you? How’s your checklist coming along? With spring ahead of us, we’re getting excited about al fresco “I dos,” pastel hues and beautiful blooms. As are our region’s suppliers who, determined not to have their creativity stifled by the pandemic, have been hard at work (safely and when permitted) putting together no less than three styled shoots for you this issue. We’ve got everything from the colourful and quirky to the elegance of a manor house. What’s more if you’re approaching the end of your todo list and looking for those extra special elements to take things over the edge into showstopping, check out our finishing touches feature over on page 55, packed with advice from the experts. There’s plenty more fabulousness on every page, so I’ll delay you no longer. Enjoy and keeeep planning!

YOUR ESSENTIALS

WHAT DID I MISS?

At the end of 2020, award-winning hotel Carden Park launched its biggest social media giveaway to date aiming to restore some positivity following a difficult year. Recognising that Covid-19 has stolen many happy and life-changing moments from so many, the venue wanted to say a big “thank you” to its loyal guests as well as giving something back to the local community. Across Carden Park Hotel’s Facebook and Instagram channels, the ‘Moments You Missed’ giveaway offered followers the chance to win 12 luxury staycations and visits to the luxury spa. Each prize was themed around the many occasions and experiences that may have been missed last year, including our beloved weddings. Week three was the one to look out for for brides and grooms, when they had the opportunity to win a bridal suite package. Now that the hotel has drawn all 12 successful entrants, we can tell you that Finney Louise Sophie was the lucky winning bride. Sadly, she had her wedding postponed twice last year due to the pandemic, and was delighted to be named winner of the bridal package, which includes a bed and breakfast stay for two with an upgrade to a luxury suite. She says, “Winning this was so needed!” Find out more about Carden Park Hotel, Cheshire’s Country Estate at www.cardenpark.co.uk

Worth the wait

We’ll all have to wait a little longer to enjoy the fabulous North West Wedding Show this year, which has been moved to the new date of 25th-26th September 2021, to ensure everyone is kept safe. Since it would have been the show’s 10th anniversary earlier in the year, the team is determined to make September’s event the biggest and best yet, pulling out all the stops. Organiser Bliss Wedding Shows tells us there’s already plenty to get excited about with 150 stands, The Curious Place for couples with an alternative-style, legendary catwalk shows, Live Lounge, VIP Lounge, competitions and special offers. We’re pretty certain it’ll be worth the wait, so be sure to save the date! Check out https://thenorthwestweddingshow.co.uk 9

All you need is love

Sisterhood Bridal, Liverpool, boasts a wealth of hair, makeup and beauty packages for the modern bride. Available to bring the glam to any wedding party for the big day, the team will travel to any venue ready with a range of services to make everyone feel special. Exciting times lay ahead with new premises due to open in June 2021 and a just-launched range of bridal hair-wear. Director Olivia Hont tells us “During the first lockdown, I decided the time was right to work on something I’d considered doing for a long time. I wanted to expand our bridal business to offer a hair accessories range consisting of veils, tiaras, hair combs and hair vines.” Having worked in the industry as a hairstylist, Olivia found that wedding hair, beauty and accessories together often worked out expensive for brides, so her goal was to create something affordable for all budgets. She says, “I feel we’ve really achieved this with our first collection without compromising the quality and beauty of the services and products.” Olivia continues, “We always want our brides to look glam and classy, at the same time as elegant, and most importantly looking and feeling themselves. That being said, we’re always open to diversity and love when a bride has her own unique style. We therefore offer a custom veil service for brides who’ve imagined, but not yet seen their dream veil.” The bespoke service is available via appointment at the studio where a member of the team will be happy to go through samples and options. The entire collection, both delicate and beautifully understated is now available at www.sisterhoodliverpool.co.uk

hile Emma and Joe originally met through a mutual friend, they didn’t start dating until a year later when they bumped into each other on a night out. Joe proposed during a country walk at Entwistle Reservoir in Lancashire early one Sunday morning. “He took me completely by surprise – I hadn’t even done my make-up!” Emma says. When it came to the venue the pair were looking for somewhere with traditional touches and a modern vibe. Liverpool city centre was the perfect choice of location as it was most convenient for friends and family from both sides. “We love the history of the buildings around there, and there was so much to do for guests who’d travelled up to make a weekend of it,” Emma explains. And where could be more historical and indeed iconic than The Liver Building? Their vows at this city treasure were followed by celebrations at the super-chic Oh Me Oh My. Read on as bride Emma shares her memories of the wonderful wedding day…

SETTING THE SCENE “All I wanted was a twinkly magical warm feeling,” says Emma of her venue styling goals. She was already most of the way there with their choice of location as the clean and spacious ceremony room at The Venue at The Liver Building comes adorned with fairylights. What’s more, Oh Me Oh My boasts a fairylit backdrop installation and offered the couple its Twinkle and Twilight package. Surely, a match made in heaven! So, Emma set about building on this foundation and purchased clear glass vases to fill with fairylights and gypsophila – simple yet incredibly effective. The venues were also decorated with silver balloons “Try to relax and complete with wedding date and married names, remember it’s the one which looked fab in their respective settings. The metallic and pearlised seating plan was time in life where you handmade by the talented Ling at Dragonfly Couture get to choose all the Stationery. In lieu of wedding favours the couple people you love to be opted to donate to local cancer charity, Maggie’s. The big-day bake, with one lemon tier and one in the same place at chocolate tier, looked ultra-glam covered in edible the same time. So, pearlised glitter. “I got a silver topper online and our florist added a couple of cream roses,” Emma appreciate it all as it lovely tells us.

happens. As everyone says: it goes so fast! " – Emma

LOOKING THE PART

The bride’s wedding dress was customised by The Real Alice Couture, who removed the lace that was originally covering the top and added some twinkly straps. “I wanted it to be fairly plain with a touch of sparkle,” Emma explains. Her stunning shoes had clear heels containing stars, and even better it’s possible to have them dyed later, enabling her to wear them again in the future. The something blue tradition was well and truly covered by her mum’s engagement ring, which contains a blue stone, and a necklace gifted to her by a friend with a matching gem. Joe had two best men and seven groomsmen who all wore navy. The groom stood out by pairing the dapper look with a different colour waistcoat and tie. He accessorised with his grandad’s watch and his bride’s grandad’s pocket watch. Emma has a lot of friends she considers to be close, but never really wanted bridesmaids. “I’m quite low key,” she tells us. “So, I asked my oldest bestie if she’d walk down the aisle before me if I

gave her some flowers and got her hair and make-up done. I told her she could wear whatever she wished. It felt so easy and just how I wanted it,” she continues.

EAT, DRINK AND BE MERRY The couple’s guests were treated to twinkle and twilight cocktails and chocolates on their arrival at the reception, while duo The Mutuals played a live set. “We just wanted a relaxed and happy feel,” Emma tells us. A six-foot cardboard cutout of Jurgen Klopp waited for Joe at the bar as the newlyweds entered to You’ll Never Walk Alone, sung at full volume by their guests. “What started out as a joke actually became one of the highlights of the day,” Emma remembers. They decided on sharing platters for the wedding breakfast, which were placed in the centre of each table to get guests interacting and chatting. “Oh Me Oh My is famous for leaving their guests well-fed, which suited us as we didn’t want anyone going hungry. Starter had a mezze vibe, which was followed by a fairly traditional chicken supreme and pork belly main course, with roasties and root vegetables,” Emma describes. The meal was rounded out with chocolate brownies, fruit, and caramel profiteroles on slates.

“We booked a twonight stay at The Titanic Hotel after the wedding. We were so grateful for that second night, so we’d definitely recommend going for that extra time.” – Emma

MEMORABLE MOMENTS

A stand-out moment for the bride was walking down the aisle with her dad and her best friend, Nicola, to I Can't Help Myself (Sugar Pie Honey Bunch) by The Four Tops. “It was all that we’d imagined. Everyone was happy and unafraid to talk and laugh.” The best men delivered one impressive speech. Together with the groomsmen they pulled together a video of past Liverpool FC players offering the newlyweds messages of congratulations. “We didn’t expect it. They absolutely went above and beyond,” Emma remembers. The bride can’t speak highly enough of her wedding professionals: “Becky at the Liver Building and Danielle at Oh Me Oh My were brilliantly helpful and made the day go so smoothly. Esme, our photographer, was also incredible. She reassured Joe when he was waiting for me, and captured the whole mood of the day perfectly. She’s a gorgeous and superprofessional girl and we got lucky booking her.”

25

“Do what you want. Go with your gut when it comes to how you want to look and any special touches you want to add to your venue. Don’t be afraid to say ‘no, but thank you’! If you can trial something beforehand – do it. It may feel different to how you imagine. " – Emma

eri and Dan were introduced to one another at their gym at Hale Country Club and hit it off right away. As their romance bloomed, the right time came for Dan to propose to his love. He whisked Geri away to Paris to celebrate her birthday and surprised her by popping the question while they were there, proving the French capital really is the City of Love. The pair tied the knot at Merrydale Manor in Knutsford. Geri says of their venue choice, “It’s very modern, which we like, but it also feels homely and full of light. Plus, it has an amazing bridal suite and guest bedrooms.” Join us as the bride shares her account of the big day…

Dan wore a black morning suit paired with a light grey waistcoat. His groomsmen all wore black suits to complement his.

I wore Betti by Millanova. I fell in love with its modern style, applique and sheer effect. I accessorised with a gold tiara, which was borrowed from a family friend who wore it on her wedding day.

The church ceremony was very special. I was very nervous but Daniel was fine!

My bridesmaids were dressed in a mix of long white Grecian-style dresses and fishtail gowns. I liked the combination as it meant they didn’t all look identical. We chose white orchids for the bouquets, which complemented my wedding gown and bridesmaids’ dresses, as well as the overall colour palette. 30

REAL WEDDINGS

Our favours were mini bottles of prosecco. We loved the bottles as they worked well with our theme.

Our centrepieces were classically styled to suit our theme. We added some large table centres too for dramatic effect. We made the table plan ourselves using a mirror.

Barratts Event Caterers created a blush pink champagne sorbet for me as a palate cleanser. The service and quality of the food was exceptional. We hired pale pink plates from Whitehouse Event Crockery, along with gold-rimmed glassware.

The big-day bake had a classic white and gold design with a modern twist.

We named the tables after our favourite restaurants, and the place names were all 31 written in gold script.

The venue was decorated with bespoke balloons and a wedding welcome sign, along with a balloon arch for a grand entrance. We also had chocolate strawberry and blush pink macaron towers, as well as a prosecco table and prop box for pictures.

Kirsty from Merrydale Manor really helped calm my nerves in the morning and was always on hand to make sure everything was in order. We’re also grateful to our photographers, Lesley and Shaun, for being so lovely to work with and for capturing our special day exactly how we wanted.

We used the event company Six15, which I’ve known and trusted for many years. They supplied a DJ and sax player with surprise confetti cannons that went off at the end of our first dance.

T

he wedding industry has been hit hard by Covid-19, with ever changing guidelines restricting celebrations from anywhere up to 30 guests, which now feels a bit like the good old days, to none at all. It’s enough to give even the most upbeat of couples pause. So, local wedding planner Dale Alexander decided to pull together a team of the region’s talented wedding professionals to create this dream of a shoot, inspiring nearlyweds to look forward to the future. Dale tells us, “Experiencing the past year has been a rollercoaster ride of uncertainties and challenges. However, one thing’s for sure, we’re now more grateful and in-tune with the basics of life. During peak wedding season, we don’t usually have time to slow down and enjoy the process. We miss out on relishing in the beauty of what we’re bringing to life for our couples. If nothing else, the pandemic has made us realise that we love our jobs and are so thankful to work with incredible brides and grooms every day.” 39 

CAKES

READY, STEADY, BAKE

We talk big-day cake trends with the professionals

T

he wedding cake has always been a much-loved tradition, whether served as a dessert or as a take-home treat for your guests. Not only does it offer a delicious delight it also serves as a showstopping centrepiece to your reception space, which nowadays is nothing short of a work of art. We chatted to some of the region’s wedding cake makers and asked whatever could be next in the wonderful world of big-day bakes.

NICOLA THOMAS, BOUTIQUE BAKERY www.boutiquebakery.co.uk Nicola lives in Chester with her husband, two cats and a loony Labrador. With a background in art and design she started Boutique Bakery in 2018 with an aim to offer eye-catching cakes in a range of truly delicious flavours, which are the talk of her couples’ wedding days. While her bakes are always designed to suit each wedding, they can always be recognised as a Boutique Bakery creation, with simple elegance and a striking quality, often achieved through her speciality handmade sugar flowers.

www.adamhudsonphotography.co.uk

www.adamhudsonphotography.co.uk

“Dried flowers and foliage continue to make their mark in styling and have made their way onto bakes, where they combine equally well with sugar or fresh flowers, often adding some architectural interest.”

“In terms of trends for 2021, texture will continue to be popular. This could take the form of aged- or distressedeffect cake coverings, such as the look of antique plaster or concrete, or in the use of bas relief, which is particularly striking when used in a single colour design scheme.”

Nicola’s top tip “A lot of my couples are looking forward to their 2021 weddings where a bold-coloured cake will be making a real statement to their wedding guests. Dark blues, greens and even black aren’t always people’s first choices, but can elevate your design to breathtaking levels, especially when combined with other elements such as cascading flowers or bas relief.”

“Consider your cake within your wider plans for the day. There are so many influences from your wedding that can be brought into the design of your cake, from the colour palette to your flowers and details on your attire. If you bring all of these with you to your cake consultation, we can work with them to ensure your cake is a real showstopping centrepiece, the perfect fit for you and your day.” 43 

FIONA HACKSHALL, FIONA HACKSHALL WEDDING CAKES www.fionahackshallweddingcakes.co.uk Fiona is based in the beautiful historical town of Nantwich, Cheshire, and describes her style as modern, clean elegance. She’s been creating beautiful baked centrepieces for more than fifteen years for hundreds of couples and even the occasional celebrity. “I didn’t set out to be a cake designer,” she tells us, “In fact I trained and worked as a dental hygienist and therapist.” Despite the obvious differences in the two professions Fiona believes there are some similarities: “Both involve recreating natural elements and use intricate tools and craftsmanship,” she explains. “The use of edible wafer paper will continue to grow in popularity. Flowers made from this medium are light and airy adding the same feel to the cake design. It’s also being used to lend a sense of movement.”

Fiona’s top tip

“Avoid asking a cake designer to recreate a wedding cake you’ve seen pictured online. Instead, let them create something that’s unique to you. Photos of other cakes are a great to help us understand your tastes and style, but why spend on a copy when you can have a sweet centrepiece designed especially for you.” “Flowers of all descriptions will forever be used to decorate wedding cakes. This year I think we’ll see the continued use of dried blooms in designs as well as colourful edible flowers adding a twist to the decoration.”

“With last year being so devastating for weddings, 2021 is looking to be a year of contrasts. I believe a lot of couples will focus on intimate celebrations with only the closest of family and friends. They’ll look more closely at core values and may be more inclined to consider traditional themes. The cake will likely be relaxed and more modest. Buttercream covering decorated with fresh flowers is still popular and suits the smaller wedding cake.” “In contrast, when we return to normality, I think we’ll see a lot of big extravagant weddings to make up for not being able to get together during the pandemic. Cakes for these affairs will be large and glamorous.” 44

CAKES

DEBBIE FENTON, LOIS’S LITTLE CAKE & CHOCOLATE COMPANY https://loislittlecakecompany.com An award-winning cake design company based in Sandbach, Cheshire, Lois’s Little Cake & Chocolate Company aims to balance unique design with delicious flavours to create the perfect wedding cakes for its couples. Debbie also works with chocolatiers from Belgium, The Netherlands and the UK stocking a wide range of luxury chocolates.

“We’ve been lucky to have some amazing couples who’ve come to us with ideas that have allowed our creativity to shine through. If I could have free reign to design the cake of my dreams, it would be a 10-tier showstopper with sugar floristry, hand-painting and gold leaf work.”

“The buttercream ruffled look is also hugely popular and echoes the fabric of a wedding gown.” “The semi-naked cake dressed in wild flowers continues to top the list of big-day bake trends.”

“Due to the pandemic, couples are considering smaller events so cupcake towers seem to be making a comeback, as do smaller bakes.”

Debbie's top tip

“Book early as many 2020 couples have been forced to rearrange their weddings and spaces may be limited. Secondly, taste is paramount. Face-to-face consultations are difficult at the moment, but most companies have now adapted to provide postal samples for tasting.” 45

Colour me BEAUTIFUL This stunner of a local shoot captures the vibrancy of Portmerion to a tee Images courtesy of Blue Bug Photography Video courtesy of Woodpecker Films

P

ortmerion is a stunning vibrant and quirky village in Gwynedd on the shores of the River Dwyryd. It was created by Welsh architect Clough Williams-Ellis between 1925 and 1973 to show how a naturally beautiful site could be developed in the style of an Italian village. Having been made famous by popular 1960s TV series The Prisoner, it’s one of Wales’ premier attractions, and now the location for this breathtaking styled wedding shoot. Armed with a Pinterest board bursting with wedspiration and everything they needed to create the shoot of their dreams, coordinators and friends Cassie of Cassie M Bridal and Sally of Blue Bug Photography set off for Portmerion one sunny Saturday in September. Sally tells us, “It’s safe to say we caused a stir with our couple, camera, drone, confetti canon, smoke bombs and flower laden bicycle! We explored the whole village and captured some amazing shots. Social distancing and face masks didn’t stop us having a fantastic day with an amazing bunch of fun suppliers.”

hen operating in perfect harmony the work of a talented team of wedding suppliers will bring their couple’s love to the fore for all assembled to see. Here, this is evident in the romantic flowing dress, the glowing make-up look, and elegant venue worthy of a period drama. Combined with the scrumptious-looking cake, the stunning venue styling, beautiful stationery and gorgeous floral design, this shoot brings all the “wows.” Shoot coordinator Joanne Fenna of Bliss Wedding Shows, organisers of the must-visit North West Wedding Show, knew exactly the suppliers she wanted to enlist for this labour of love. She tells us, “It’s so important to book the wedding suppliers who know what you want and understand you as a person. It’s the same principle for a photo shoot, everybody just clicked and the result was pretty spectacular.”

FINISHING TOUCHES

ersonality is paramount when it comes to planning a wedding, and it’s the super-cool finishing touches you add that will convey what makes the day uniquely you. They may seem small, but they’re elements that speak volumes and act to take your day from special to spectacular. We’ve rounded up some top tips and ideas from local wedding suppliers to start your creative juices flowing.

Ta-da! Finishing touches to wow the crowds

YOU COMPLETE ME Finishing touches for your big-day look with Cassie McClymont of Cassie M Bridal Accessories (www.cassiem.co.uk).

“You’ll need to choose the correct piece to accentuate that beautiful hairstyle. Some modern brides feel that veils aren’t fashion forward enough, but remember it can be worn for just a few hours to bring a touch of tradition to the ceremony, then removed in the evening to let that gorgeous hair accessory shine.”

“For the modern chignon-styled bride, a porcelain flower and silver-leaf comb is a real hit and perfect if you’re looking for the wow-factor paired with an elegantly finished look.”

“For brides who like to keep things simple and sleek, a selection of pretty pins suit any style and are available in many designs.”

“Keep in mind the style of your hair. For all you boho brides, a delicate, relaxed accessory such as a hair vine would be the perfect fit for loose beach waves.” 55 

IT'S A SIGN! Amanda Nelson of Wachadoin Events (www.wachadoin.events) says, “Once the traditional dressings for your wedding are planned it’s good to look at some of the details that can make your wedding day unique to you.” Here she explains how sign-posting your celebrations are a wonderful way to do this.

www.alicialaceyphotography.com

PERSONALISE YOUR VENUE Director of Dale Alexander Events (www.dalealexanderevents.co.uk), Dale Alexander, believes that adding characterful touches reflective of the couple’s personality are what will make the wedding stand out from the crowd and be memorable. He tells us more…

“Personalised signs are a lovely way to welcome your guests and set the scene. Placed at the entrance or in a key area they can help to create the desired atmosphere and make wonderful keepsakes.”

“Adding your favourite song lyrics to a reading, including your new monogram on your dinner napkins, and serving up a signature cocktail are all simple ways to elevate your special day.”

“Why not include heirlooms or sentimental pieces?

We planned a wedding for a couple in Cheshire last year and the bride’s father had left her a note that read: ‘I love you more than you could ever imagine. I will always make sure you are taken care of.’ They printed the note in his handwriting onto ribbon for her bouquet. It was such a beautiful way to honour her father.”

“Lighting is one of the most impactful investments you can make in your wedding. From fairylights and candles to uplighters and centrepiece pin spots; paying a little attention to this element adds drama and ambience.” 56

The table plan and order of the day sign are not only essential for giving your guests important information, but also help them to feel relaxed in the knowledge of what’s coming. Our statement table plans are designed to reflect the day’s décor, plus a little about the couple.”

A SPECIAL CEREMONY

“A handfasting is a beautiful simple ceremony where your hands are gently bound together by ribbon, rope or yarn. You can even ask family members to place the fabric lengths, perfect if you have children you’d like involved in your big day.” “If you have a pet who is happy being around other people, is easily trainable and large enough not to risk being squashed, they can accompany you down the aisle, or even better have them as a ring bearer.” “Can you knit, sew, crochet or make paper flowers? Add that extra special touch to your wedding party’s buttonholes and bouquets. Best of all they’ll be a lasting memento.” “A sand ceremony involves different colours of sand being layered together to signify the joining of individuals into an inseparable whole. If you have children, you could ask them to contribute their own colours to show that they’re an integral part of the new family.” “Ask a musical friend to play the music you walk down the aisle to, get your dancer pal to lead your recessional, or hear your actor chum recite your favourite love poem. Utilise your loved ones’ talents to bring a magical zing to your big-day.” 58

HOT TOPIC WEDDING WONDERLAND

Our venue is gorgeous inside and out. How can we make the most of it with our wedding photos? We’re so lucky in this region to have such an amazing variety of venues from canvas to castles. You may be pitching a tipi in a fabulous landscape, relaxing in an atmospheric country pub or celebrating in a magnificent mansion. Whether you looked at a dozen venues or knew the first was the one for you, it’s the unique features that will have stood out to you. Our job is to find the stunning attributes of the location and use them to capture your wonderful memories, and we’ll start by having a chat with you about your favourite spots, the elements that made you fall in love with it. The exterior of your venue can look so different in the daylight to how it does lit up at night. There might be glorious gardens and outdoor features that look stunning as you take a stroll together at dusk, making for some amazing low-light shots. If we’re lucky there’ll be a great sunset to wish you good luck. Many venues have stunning staircases, which afford us so many opportunities. Fireplaces and furniture too, whether they

Even if you think there’s nothing that stands out to you, we’ll have visited your venue, had a good look around and come up with a cunning plan. It’s incredible what can be found and made into something fabulous. Your job is to enjoy time together with your loved ones on your big day. Our job is to create the beautiful reminders. WHERE TO BEGIN

I got engaged at Christmas and can’t decide whether to start planning the wedding now with the future so uncertain. What would you recommend and where do I start? Congratulations on your engagement! This is such an exciting time for you as a couple, but I can understand why you’re feeling a little anxious. There’s so much you can do in the early stages of planning – even during a pandemic! I’d recommend doing some online research. Discover venues you like the look of, find local suppliers, and browse Pinterest and wedding blogs for inspiration. I’d also recommend discussing your wedding budget as a couple along with how you’d like to prioritise spending it. Perhaps you’d love a videographer or fun alternative entertainment such as a photo booth? Use this time to get your plans in order, then when lockdown is over you’re confident about where to start. Claire Boon, www.bouquetandbells.com 60

EXPERT ADVICE

GET SNAPPY

It’s time to choose a photographer, and I’ve no idea where to begin. What would you advise? Start by choosing a style. Are you naturally drawn to bright, bold images, or do you prefer a dark, more moody effect? Each supplier will have their own shooting and editing style, so it’s important you do your research and decide which style you like before booking. Next, decide on a budget that you’re willing to spend. The majority of photographers will have set packages on their website but offer extras if you want something more bespoke. If you’re struggling to find a supplier that fits your price range, get in touch and see if they offer half-day coverage instead. This is a great way of saving money and means you’ll still be able to capture the most important parts of the day.

With so many photographers to choose from, it can feel a little overwhelming. Look through local websites, social media and check magazines to get a list of potential suppliers. Once you have a list, narrow it down to three options. Check those three have the style you like, are available on your date, fit your budget, offer any additional extras that you want and most importantly have good reviews. Set up a meeting in person or via video chat with each of them to see if your personalities gel. Before the meeting, create a list of questions to ask, such as do you have insurance? Have they worked at your venue before? How much deposit do they expect upfront and when does the final instalment need to be paid? After the meeting, if you feel particularly comfortable around one of them and like their answers, contact them about booking. Melissa Barker, Your North West Wedding editor

TIME OUT

I’m feeling overwhelmed by the pandemic, lockdown after lockdown and planning a wedding. Can you help? There’s no doubt that wedding planning during the last 12 months has been more challenging than at any other point in time, not least because of the continuous uncertainty. And there’s nothing that can fray the nerves quite like fear of the unknown. So, don’t beat yourself up. First and foremost, take a breath and allow yourself some time for self-care. The wedmin will still be there when you return. As a mindfulness coach in training, I can highly recommend the technique as a way to reduce stress and anxiety and, by focusing the mind, it combats that feeling of being overwhelmed. It might sound complicated, but it’s something you can easily do at home with apps like Calm and Headspace, plus plenty of guided meditations available on YouTube. There are also some great guided walk meditations online if you feel like getting out of the house for some fresh air. So, put the planner away for a few minutes step away and concentrate on you. Why not indulge yourself in an at-home spa? Grab the scented candles, bubble bath and relaxing music and take a long soak in the tub. I recently learnt a wonderfully calming ritual at the virtual launch of Temple Spa’s new Exalt Firming Neck Gel and have since made it a regular routine. It’s amazing how it relaxes the neck and shoulders after a day hunched over the computer. Click play to check it out. Finally, when you’re ready to switch the devices back on and

https://youtu.be/t1UeGYMGGF8

resume the wedding planning remember: if you’re uncertain about anything the best thing you can do is ask. Your suppliers will be more than willing to answer any questions you may have and offer you the best guidance. They’ve also been working super-hard over the last year to put policies in place to help if the wedding is affected by Covid, so be sure to enquire about plan B. I’ve had the honour of writing about many an intimate, pandemic-era wedding of late and I can tell you that every couple told me how wonderful and filled with love their big days were. You may have to practically alter your plans and guest list, but the dream wedding can still be yours. Kelly Andrews, Your Cheshire & Merseyside Wedding editor and CWM beauty editor 61

amed for her flawless skin, popular TV personality Jess Wright is a busy, gogetting woman. Whether she’s on a shoot, busy filming, hosting her podcast – Girls #NoFilter, planning next year’s wedding to William Lee-Kemp, or hard at work in her role as Crystal Clear’s first celebrity ambassador, her perfect skin is the envy of all. Keen to know her secret, CWM beauty editor Kelly Andrews sat down for a chat with the reality star to get the lowdown, just for you! Jess, thanks for making time in your hectic schedule to talk to us and huge congratulations on your forthcoming wedding. How do you imagine your big day? Thank you! I imagine it to be beautiful, full of love and hopefully classy. As long as I’m surrounded by my family and loved ones, that’s the most important thing. How did William propose? He did it on the balcony of our beautiful hotel room in the mountains in Courchevel. It was both spectacular and amazing. What’s your vision for your bridal beauty look? Good skin is the perfect base so I’ll be prepping with some fab Crystal Clear COMCIT facials in the run up to the big day for sure. Then I’ll want my make-up to be slightly natural, with that dewy glow and some wispy lashes.

Absolutely

FLAWLESS

Do you have a picture of your dream dress in mind? I’ve tried on so many dresses, but I definitely have a vision. I think I’ve chosen the one. Completely understand you playing the cards close to your chest there! We look forward to the surprise. As the voice of experience, can you share with us your top wedding planning tips? I’d say, make sure you have a good wedding planner. Also, do the guest list, but don’t send the invitations out until later, as it’ll definitely alter as time goes on! So many couples have been forced to re-plan their weddings as a result of the pandemic. Have you encountered any such difficulties and do you have any advice for other couples facing the same challenges? We’ve considered moving the wedding, but

BEAUTY INTERVIEW

at the minute it’s a day-by-day update, so we’re going to make the final decision in the spring. If you’re not time restricted, I’d say move yours to 2022 if possible, so you can really enjoy the process rather than struggling through the pandemic. Leading a jam-packed celebrity lifestyle while planning a wedding must make you an extremely busy lady! How do you juggle it all while still looking fabulous and flawless? I love keeping busy, so I was really excited about planning a wedding on top of my already hectic lifestyle, but unfortunately

that hasn’t happened as the pandemic and various lockdowns have slowed me down. It has meant though that I’ve had plenty of time on my hands to plan the wedding! What are your make-up bag must haves? I love Chanel foundation for a quick matte bronze. Also, a good eyebrow pencil and a nourishing lip balm. I always keep the Crystal Clear Beach Glow Tanning Drops in my kit too. They’re amazing for adding a subtle glow to your skin and you can dial it up depending on the depth of colour you’re looking for. Tell us why you love Crystal Clear. I’m so excited to be chosen as the first ever ambassador for Crystal Clear Skincare. Their products are my holy grail and having tried so many different brands over the years, I just love the results you get with Crystal Clear, so it’s amazing to be working with the brand. The range is extensive with something to suit all skin types and concerns. The Ionic Sonic2 Microdermabrasion Kit is my ultimate secret to Insta-ready, super-cleansed skin. I’m also a big fan of the salon treatments, especially the COMCIT facial. It really is the most fantastic treatment for softer, firmer and hydrated skin.

Which is your favourite product from the range? I’d have to say The Lifting Wand, one of the brand’s beauty tools. It comes with its pharma-grade product, which is packed with hyaluronic acid. You use it for 60 seconds every day and it gives you deep hydration, depuffs eyes, plumps skin and lifts it. It’s really easy to use and fits into your daily routine. For a quick skin fix, I’d also highly recommend the 10 Minute Glow Mask, which literally does what it says on the tin and gives you glowing skin in just 10 minutes. It’s incredibly satisfying to peel off as well! What’s your number one beauty tip for brides? Focus on your skin. Glowing skin is the best thing on your wedding day in terms of beauty, so do whatever you need to make it feel its best. Finally, what’s next for you? Hopefully my wedding! Also, Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, the musical I’m in. This is all dependant on the pandemic though. Sending my love to everyone at this time. Finishing Touch Flawless Dermaplane Glo, £19.99 Available at Argos, ASDA, Boots, Tesco and Wilko Dermaplaning as a salon treatment has been around for a while, and quite frankly the very thought of it has always terrified me. So, I wasn’t too sure what to expect of this tool. I did my research on the benefits, genned up on this super-useful tutorial and I was ready to go. Wow, I don’t know what I was so worried about. It was easy to do and took no more than five to 10 minutes. Probably 10 for me as I got a bit addicted and couldn’t stop – I don’t recommend that though. It’s an incredibly satisfying process seeing all of that peach fuzz and dead skin disappear. I couldn’t believe how smooth my skin felt afterwards. Leave your skin to rest for around eight hours afterwards before you apply any skin products or make-up as it’s quite an intense exfoliation process, then repeat every two to four weeks. I can’t wait to see how regular use improves my skin further. I’m definitely sold on dermaplaning!

Kevyn Aucoin Kaleidochrome All-Over Highlight Palette, £39 www.lookfantastic.com This multi-tasking palette offers four shades of highlight suitable whatever the look you’re going for. I particularly loved the darker rose Space Party, which I used on my cheeks over my blusher for a radiant glow and Super Cosmic, which I added to the arch of my eyebrows and very top of my cheekbones. It really brought a multi-dimensional look to my make-up that can be tailored for day or night.

Eve Lom Radiance Transforming Mask, £65 www.spacenk.com I was surprised to find a balm texture when I first removed the lid, so was interested to see how this would go. Using the supplied spatula to remove the required amount of mask from the tub, I opted for generous dollop and began to massage it into my face as instructed. Its thick formula felt incredibly luxurious and I could already tell it was going to provide a pampering experience. I was particularly delighted by the advice to leave for a minimum of 30 minutes, which gave me an excuse to relax for a decent amount of time – none of this 10 minutes rubbish! When it was time to remove with warm water, I was delighted to find my skin looking renewed, beautifully supple and glowing.

PUT A SPRING IN YOUR STEP CWM’s beauty editor puts this season’s best buys to the test creating a head-to-toe makeover session you’ll love

Sculpted by Aimee Connolly Lip Duo, £18 www.sculptedbyaimee.com I’m a huge advocate for lip liners and their myriad benefits, but I do struggle to know which shade goes with which lipstick, find the two become separated and will admit to resenting buying both in the first place. So, these Lip Duos are a blessing! Not only are they perfectly colour matched offering you two products for the average price of one, but if your make-up bag is already packed, like mine, they offer a smart solution. I tried Mauve Match, which is a versatile neutral shade, ideal for everyday wear.

No Secrets One Body Jelly, £49 www.nosecretsbeauty.com This jellied body oil smells absolutely incredible with No Secrets’ signature blend of essential oils – bergamot, juniper, petitgrain, eucalyptus and lavender. Less messy than a traditional body oil, you just need to massage a little in at a time for smooth and beautifully soft skin. Plus, the amazing fragrance lasts. Perfect for a pamper. 80

Margaret Dabbs Cracked Heel Treatment, £18 www.margaretdabbs.co.uk Let me start by confessing that my heels are horrendous, always cracked and dry and nothing I try makes a difference. Until now that is. This product was well and truly put through its paces by my horrible hooves and the results were instant. After just one application the sandpaper effect was gone and with continued use it really is a miracle worker. It’s my new beauty essential, and I can’t wait to get the flip flops on!

TIMELESS CHIC

We love the gorgeous soft sultry bridal look (pictured) you created for the styled shoot at Delamere Manor featured in this issue. Please tell us more about how you created it and who it would suit. Lizzie says: This look is for the bride who wants a glamorous, timeless and classy hair and make-up vibe for her wedding. I used a radiance primer to give Amelia’s skin a lovely dewy effect, along with a medium coverage foundation and some powder very lightly dusted on the T-zone. I contoured the face and applied a lovely natural-coloured highlight to the high points with a rosy pink blusher on the cheeks. I gave her eyes a soft smoky effect with false lashes to accentuate them and lined her lips before applying a lovely rosy lipstick with a gloss over the top. Amelia’s hair was curled with a wand and medium hold hairspray away from the face to create voluminous waves. To create this style, I also used texture products and hair shine to finish off the look.

U P, U P A N D A W A Y

I’m looking for a chic modern style to keep my long hair away from my face on the big day. What can you suggest? Zena says: One of my favourite modern looks would be a natural wanded curl twisted away from the face, which can be worn as half up half down or twisted into a chignon. You can also add twists of hair or a relaxed braid. This style looks absolutely beautiful with fresh flowers or a crystal head piece tucked into the twist at the back giving a stunning focal point when walking down the aisle.
